it might be. there were also some changes made to certain minor ways items are handled after the duck event, and this might be related to that.

When I trade it doesn't actually take them out of my inventory - is there a failsafe to prevent me from trading more than I have?

There's SUPPOSED to be a failsafe, yes. If the items in the trade aren't there, it's supposed to throw an error stopping you from completing it.

Hmm. If I’m sending multiples... I think one way to try to avoid empty trades is, if you’re sending things to, say, five people, send the item at the top of the list of all the identical items to the first person, then send the second item to the second, etc.
