My dad is like that, too!
When we lived in our old apartment, we were not allowed animals. But my mom rescued a little kitten, Lucky. And my dad was all upset, but then Lucky climbed on to his lap and passed out one day. LOL. Same for my other animals, especially my second cat and second dog. He was like "NOOOOO, NONONONO. NOT ANOTHER ONE." But now he loves them.
