Ferrets do smell and having the scant glands removed only stops them from "poofing" or releasing a sudden strong smell from the anal gland much like a skunk (only much less potent). They have glands in their necks which constantly put out a musk and some people hate it some people love it some people simply don't care. I happen to like the musk but do think it gets too strong, so I bath my ferret once every week to two weeks. The scent glands in the neck cannot be removed.
Another think about ferrets is a lot of the companies who make ferret food use fish meal in the feed which can result in the ferret's poopies being extra smelly. Most ferret owners clean the litter boxes once a day or as often as they feel they need to to negate the smell. I usually do my boxes once every other day because I'm a stickler for reading labels and don't feed food with fish meal.
