Ah but.. gonna take a shot at those questions, though you might not find the answers satisfactory. xD
The size of the image.. I start out 1024x768 and then I just expand or crop however way works. xD
I shade... many different ways. If it's more anime-ish, I just choose a dark color that fits, adjust the opacity of the layer, and/or screw around with the blend knife tool. If it's more realistic-y, I just pick colors that look like they'd work, mess around with shade and luminosity, and scribble about with the blend knife tool. xD ( I paint with inker regular most of the time, but hardly with max density. I only max the density when I need to color something solid. )
Lines... I use inker regular at 1.0 size, with min size around 40-60% and density around 50-60%. I usually scribble it out first in different parts in a set, and then I'll make it hardly visible and trace over my scribbles so it'll be cleaner. I think that just over time, my lines got better. xD
I've had my tablet since junior year of highschool after all ( that'd be like.. 5-6 years. ) and before then, I used to draw with a mouse.
