Underworld Awakening

So, there is still five days until the fourth movie comes out, i.e. Underworld Awakening. Therefore, I want to get everyone's opinion on the first three movies, which one was your favorite, and do you think the fourth one will be worth going to see?

Like a lot of things, I liked these films when I was younger. Now... not so much. I find the corporate fixation on producing sequels really... depressing, honestly. I don't think I see why this series needed another entry .

On the whole, though, it's all just so... tired. Every element in the films is part of a formula, the whole "appeal" just comes off to me as really superficial and I feel like it's all just about raking in money.

On the other hand, unlike say, The Matrix, these at least aren't trying to pass themselves off as some kind of critical philosophical art-form rather than self-indulgent reveling-in-genre that they are. So... at least they're honest, I suppose?

I don't know. I just wish there were more original, challenging, thought-provoking films coming out, visual stories that are approached as art, rather than a corporate strategy. But, it would be delusional to actually expect that from any studio with the budget to make a high-quality film. It's just... saddening to me.

Anyway, about Underworld, I personally put them right next to the Resident Evil films -- shameless action-fests that occupy you for a couple hours, but not something you're going to take anything meaningful from experiencing.

idk im not really looking forward to the whole "human" thing. i liked when they did the back story and i was hoping for some more back story... but oh well.. i just dont think ill like this new movie as much as i liked the other movies...

I didn't really enjoy Rise of the Lycans. But it WAS a good movie.

Out of the three, I have to say Evolution was my favorite. The first will always hold a special place in my heart though.

Awakening? I'm EXTREMELY excited for, but, what ever happened to Michael? o.o;

Asami 01-16-2012 02:57 PM

yeah they dont show him in any of the previews.. it is a few years in the future.. did he die? or what O.o
i liked him. he was awesomes

Tiva 01-16-2012 03:27 PM

He may have.... or he may have died protecting Seline.... Or he may have hidden from the humans. Remember he IS a doctor.....

Batty 01-16-2012 06:19 PM

Theo James though.. heeheehee... He's in the movie this time around.
I THINK he plays a Vampire.

Anywho, I absolutely ADORE that man, so, if Michael isn't in the movies.. I think my heart is spared. <3 Unless he dies.

Then I'll have to rage.

And I found this:

Quote:

A fourth movie, Underworld: Awakening has been announced. Though Michael is not mentioned in the official plot synopsis, Selene is said to have a daughter named Nissa. Whether this child is Michael's or not is unknown. An official still from Awakening shows what appears to be Michael in his Hybrid form, however, he is clearly portrayed by a different actor, and Scott Speedman has confirmed he was never approached for the role. In the trailer, Selene can be heard asking where Michael is.

Alpha 01-16-2012 11:34 PM

It might be a different hybrid instead of Michael. Kinda hoping they haven't killed him off.

Batty 01-17-2012 12:20 AM

From what I read on the Wiki, Scott Speedman wasn't even approached to reprise his role as Michael.

Which, if thats the case, is pretty screwed up.
Len Wisemen originally was only going for a trilogy, and after Rise of the Lycans, I felt a bit like I was shorted. Even though I was curious about Lucian's past, and Sonia's relationship with him, I felt like that one should have been introduced later, and instead, kept on with Selene's story. [I'm partial, sue me xD]

It is just the waiting game now until it comes out. All we can do is speculate.

Well after seeing the previous ones with Tiva, Kali, and Alpha. I really enjoyed them. I'm hoping to go watch the new one once it is out on theaters.

Tiva 01-17-2012 05:03 PM

Alpha wanted it out on his birthday weekend but it didn't come out, so belated birthday present to him.

Alpha 01-18-2012 11:05 AM

Thank you dear. I can't wait to see it

I liked all the movies. My opinion on the trailer I see of It i'm not sure since I haven't seen the full trailer.o.e Its been a while since I seen this series. All I remember Is the first movie I liked.

Katara-Amaya 01-18-2012 10:35 PM

I love the first three too much to pick just one to be my favorite. They keep building on the story line in such away that it keeps your attention and keeps you wondering what is going to happen next. The trailers for the new one coming has peeked my interest to the point I am actually going to pay the outrageous prices at my local movie theater to see in theaters! ^^
