vodka is good for everything
so i have periodically checking the hole in my arm from where i got hit by a car and it got infected yesterday , i cleaned out everything i could get to and it looked ok, today there was bloody slime from under the remaining scab, long and short of it i have a vodka compress over a hole big enough to dip the tip of my pinky into
my question to you is to what depths have you gone to just to keep yourself healthy when there is no medical equipment or help around? by the way, i drown myself in rubbing achohol regurally but all the same shouldn't booze /hurt/ when applied to a wound? |
>.O I'd assume any kind of alcohol will sting/hurt alot when you put it on a wound.
it is supposed to, maybe i am immune^^
but dude, answer my question maybe? i really want to know^^ |
Well considering booze has alcohol in it I'd assume it'd hurt all the same when applied to a wound. Wither or not it's actually a good idea to do that is another thing altogether though.
checked it out, dehidration and a risk of making the ugly-assed scar i'm goingto get just a little uglier and assier haha
lol see? Not such a hot idea to follow XD I would have assumed that since it's not pure alcohol used for disinfecting that i'd probably end up doing something bad. Though drinking alcohol to make the pain seem to go away is fine.
rather that than infection, i didn't remake a medi kit when i moved here so i had no supplies other than fake-skin and tape^^:
Dang >.< Well at least it's not the worst it can be right?
yup, worst is i could have not been checking on it or had my roomate's booze, /that/ would be so very bad
>.> I wouldn't trust anything but your own for medical supplies unless it comes from a clinic/hospital.
40% so it met the minimum, plain so no poison, she is clean and has not drunk it(on a related note i'm fucked when she finds out if i can't make her vomit by looking at my arm)
O-o how banged up are you for your arm wound to make someone vomit?
again, i can stick a finger in it and it went a little green with black bits, fairly gross, had to pick a scab the size of my thumb-pad off
O-o ok...that'd make me go eww...wouldn't make me vomit. Then again I've also been in and out of hospitals since I was little due to my mom being a nurse so seeing hurt/sick/dying people isn't that bad for me unless it's like a total bloody mess.
Oh gosh O_O It doesn't sound like a good wounds Choco @_@
Personally, about the question, I usually use some Peroxyde whenever there's a wound that may get infected (after cleaning it with water and soap, obviously) or when there's a toe nail or whatnot that goes crazy... Otherwise, there was that extremely hot compress I used to apply on my big toe when it started hurting again, it's pretty much some bleach mixed up with water, and even though sure you can hold it with your hands, your toes is another matter entirely @_@ And there was also that thing with flour and whatnot to help clean it from all slime and whatnot... The other question, uh, if you're used to it, I'm not sure it should hurt, it just has that weird sensation when it's bubbling, peroxyde is like that anyway with me and it's theorically alchohol too... |
Well, it actually depends on the type of vodka as to whether it would have enough alcohol in it to really burn. Most vodka's have a proof of around 80% so it's only 40% alcohol. If you think about the fact that rubbing alcohol is usually 71-90% there's a weeeeeeeeeee bit of difference. I would recommend, if you have it, put some neosporin on it...if you don't have that put some honey on it. Honey is antimicrobial, hydroscopic and good at prevent infection. It was used in wars as a wound dressing.
As to weird things I've done...okay, you're gonna laugh, and it's okay. A couple years ago I blender-ized two fingers. Not THAT badly, but I got my right middle and pointer finger pretty bad. After I nearly passed out and my roommate helped me clean and wrap them we made a splint out of wonderflex(a thermoplastic) and I would soak them routinely in black tea(also good for drawing out infection). I was a wuss and wouldn' look at them to even change their bandages for about six months. But now they're pretty well healed up, with only minor scars and a bit of lost sensation. |
