Good News!!!!

I feel like screaming this because it's so amazingly awesome. So, instead I'm going to be productive and tell you all about it! ^_^

Many of you don't know that I'm a Transboy, Ftm, etc. I was chased off from my old summer job last season because my boss found out and would not stop harassing me. I left battered and a little scared to go out and find a new one. When I have struck out I have been met with opposition because my name is still legally female and not the male one that I go by everyday. Which is a slight problem because I pass as male. ^^;;;

This morning at 12:47am, the Connecticut Senate passed the bill that would add Gender Discrimination to the list of things you can't discriminate against when hiring a person or giving them housing. All we are waiting on now is the Governor to sign it and it goes into affect.

This means I no longer have to worry about my gender being a factor in me getting a job!! Well, I do, but it's now illegal to do so.

SO EXCITED!!!!

Anyone else have amazingly good news? ^_^

Congrats, Desmond!
I'm glad you can get a job you want without having to be afraid. :D

Its more than just me, its for everyone else that isn't lucky enough to be able to live with their parents while in that awkward "No job" phase. It's just an amazing step for human rights in general. ^^

I am glad to hear that I hope nothing like what happened at your other job ever happens to you again!

Desmond 06-04-2011 11:43 PM

It very well could happen, but, this makes it so I can take legal action if such a problem does occur in the future. My only thing is I can't do much about what happened to me before...I wish I could. Oh...the justice that I want to have...

I'm so glad to hear that Desmond ^^ As a transgirl myself the gob thing was always a little dicey (because I've ALWAYS looked like a girl) but that was part of what made it easy for me to keep working when I transferred last year. Now if only I didn't have the dizziness I'd probably still be at that job as a girl, since that's what I was introduced as when I transferred.

But I'm happy for you, go go Desmond, get that job!

Desmond 06-05-2011 12:09 AM

I'm waiting to here back from one place that I'm hoping I get! I would be working with a lesbian and a pansexual. I love working with family. XD

Serra Britt 06-05-2011 01:20 AM

-crosses fingers- I hope you get it Desmond ^^

Lucifer 06-07-2011 09:53 AM

I hope it all goes well :3 But still, employers might hold personal biases :C Just a warning they might use other excuses to not hire you, which would be silly and stupid of them, if you're a good worker, and can do the job why not hire you, right?

Desmond 06-07-2011 01:00 PM

That's what I've been thinking for months! XDD I didn't get the corner store job sadly, don't know why because they didn't even give me an interview...

But now when I apply to other places I can let my guard down just a little.

Lucifer 06-07-2011 06:07 PM

I hope so :3 jobs are scary, specially interviews @-@

Desmond 06-07-2011 06:21 PM

Yes they can be. o.o

The last time I went to one I got so nervous and it most likely cost me the job. =/

Your right it could very well happen again. But it is less likely to now.

That's awesome ^^ so glad they are finally taking action and I wish the best for you and you seem like a really nice person and deserve the best to happen to you <3

Glad to hear that Desmond. I've seen stuff like that happen and it's good to know you can call people on it if you have to. I used to work at a coffee shop and a new guy arrived one day, openly gay, and probably the most cheerful and interactive person I had ever seen to that point. He was gone two days later. I heard it was on account of being too obnoxious but I wasn't sure. I suspect it had something to do with hish orientation though. I lived in a small conservative town at the time and anything or anyone openly GLBT will have problems. I never did see him around town much.

I'm so happy for you desmond and all of the FtMs in Connecticut struggling to find a job without being discriminated. Kudos to the government for doing that.
Some of us need to understand that there are people out there who are gays, lesbians, bisexuals, pansexuals, asexuals, transgendered and queer and that they're still human beings that needed education, jobs, benefits, health insurances and of course, marriage.

=D
