Hi Cecil and welcome to Trisphee! Some items are usable by both genders but some are gender specific, there aren't that many like that. You can gain Aurum by posting so feel free to post here or in any other active threads. If you haven't already you can grab some free clothing in the Threads store, what type of problems are you having with the avatar so I can help you with that.http://trisphee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=743 the FAQ(see the link) and if that doesn't help feel free to ask here :D

Most items do have an unisex style, but I believe there are some more female only items than male.

Hello Cecil :3 From what I remember someone else found you can put on a female only item then change the base to male, and vice versa, but that was a while ago and I'll be honest I never tested it myself ^^;

you have to completely take all items off the base to change to a different gender

Welcome to Trisphee. In this section of the site there is two newbie charitys to help you get some items. One of them Pairs new members like yourself to more experienced users to help new members learn the ropes; also it is holdine a raffle for an expensive item.

I just tested it, the editor lets you change bases without removing any clothes, and it wouldn't let me put on any of my female items :P But I was still wearing the skirt there that is female only. I didn't try to save it though D:
