Which are you?

Are you the reading-on-the-internet-type? Or the there's-much-more-satisfaction-owning-my-own-pocket-in-my-bookshelf kind of person?

Me myself am the there's-much-more-satisfaction-owning-my-own-pocket-in-my-bookshelf kind of person. My mind is more pleasured when I look at my bookshelf and see my beauties. Sitting in a good chair and reading from the classic paper. Haha, I'm so materialistic XD ☆

When I was in high school and had a lot of classes to ignore/no money in my pockets, I found a lot of satisfaction in downloading and reading massive amounts of manga. Now that I'm older, wiser, and have disposable income, I find even more satisfaction from seeing neat little rows of books on my bookshelf. And when the world ends and the internet becomes obsolete, those of us who have invested in good old paper books will be the wisest of all.

Plus, all of the "read online" manga sites took away the porn. >(

I'd rather own the books. O= ! I hate having to read online but since I'm currently poor and uh, I travel around way to often, I can't exactly invest in collecting books right now. When I can, I definitely will be switching back to old fashioned paperback. <3

I want books! This is why I'm soooooooo not a fan of all the kindle/nook/etc things out there. I like having PAPER, I like having spines and covers and fly-leafs and ink. There is something about the smell of a book...and yes, I've just sniffed my bookcases before...that is satisfying. I've got four boxes of comics, all bag'd and board'd and categorized, and I take sooooooo much joy in them, even if they're well read and falling apart.

That being said, I also have digital copies of all my stuff...in case heaven forbid I can't find the one I want RIGHT NOW. Also helps with the ones that silly american publishers haven't brought over..but even then I tend to find friends to find me the hard copy in their native language.

I love having the actual books myself. It's just a different feeling being able to hold it in your hand vs reading it off the screen.

I greatly prefer owning books. My eyes get enough strain from staring at the computer all day.

This. Definitely. Plus, you can't buy used kindle books. xD Getting awesome deals on used manga is like a high. Doesn't matter what title it is if you're walking out of the store with a $2 volume.

Fey 05-01-2011 12:22 AM

OMG yes! used books are aaaaaamazing! and while i love walking out with new books, used books make me feel like a super hero. I mean, here they were unloved and unwanted and I'm taking them home to a place they will be adored!

CupcakeDolly 05-01-2011 02:03 AM

I know, I love used bookstores for exactly that reason. You never know what kind of treasures you're going to find in places where retail bookstores have no authority. And finding used manga is usually a rare thing out where I am, so it's always an awesome find. <3

I like owning books. Something I can hold in my hands.

Funkduder 05-01-2011 02:41 PM

I read online b/c it's a lot faster, but I collect the books for the sake of collecting so I guess you could say both.

Echo-chan713 05-03-2011 05:46 PM

I'm both what I do is the first couple of books online then when I really like it then I buy the book online (B&N, ebay, etc).

But I seem to do this pattern where I watch the anime then read the books online then I buy the books, I'm the total opposite of people

Indeed, indeed. But at least we have FAKKU and Hentaish! O 3 o

Sadrain 05-04-2011 11:19 AM

I swing both ways~~ It sprouts from the fact sometimes I can't get some books online, and sometimes some in real life, and that sometimes I just want to read and own books in my own natural language, which means I need to get the books in shelf, then. P=

Gallowsraven 05-05-2011 07:48 AM

prefer owning but unfortunately i can't afford to buy them, and i also don't have any more space for them T T, so manga tends to be read online for me. I'm currently devouring The Wallflower and Black Bird :D

Bookworm_Ninja 05-27-2011 12:04 AM

Since I am poor I am reading online but I rather enjoy reading a good old fashioned book e-readers just drive me nuts. So once I have money to spend I will definitely be buying my manga again.
