Simply Excellent Webcomics

I like webcomics. There are many. Most are bad.

But I keep a choice few on my RSS feed (so I don't have to spend 6 hours visiting all the different sites to see if they might have updated)...I shall share! Do feel free to share your own lists. :D

  • Gunnerkrigg Court
    http://www.gunnerkrigg.com
Super detailed in concept and execution (sometimes visually, always intellectually). Excellent. The best webcomic. (it's a little ugly at first, but gets much prettier)

  • Girl Genius
    http://www.girlgenius.net
"Adventure! Romance! Mad Science!" The art is a little odd sometimes, but it's a fun story, and is probably the longest continuously-running story webcomic.

  • Dresden Codak
    http://www.dresdencodak.com
    OMG PRETTY. And cyborgs+transhumanist thought.

  • Dr. McNinja
    http://www.drmcninja.com
Sadly about to end, but still fucking incredible. He's a doctor. Who's a ninja. Roll with it.

  • XKCD
    http://www.xkcd.com
It's math and science jokes, mostly.

  • Trying Human
    http://www.tryinghuman.com
It's about alien abductions, MIB style agents, and lizard people. Good stuff.

  • Kiwi Blitz
    http://www.kiwiblitz.com
Super cutesy mecha robot crime fighting. ..It's actually better than it sounds.

  • The Boy Who Fell
    http://www.theboywhofell.com
Manga-style wimpy boy gets yanked into Hell (which is some kind of alternate earth dimension rather than the fiery pits of hell...mostly) to be a pawn in some game. It bugs me that it appears to be written by an English speaker but is still right to left...That aside, it's rather enjoyable.

  • Slightly Damned
    http://www.sdamned.com
So, an Angel, a Demon, and a little furry walk into a bar... It's about some fuzzy, tailed girl who gets murdered and sent to purgatory. She makes friends with a slightly retarded demon, and they have adventures.

  • Two Kinds
    http://twokinds.keenspot.com/
The Templar are Mages! What will the Chantry think?? ...Okay, has nothing to do with that reference I just made. It's about humans and furries and adventure and magic. Reasonably entertaining. Long running.

There's others on my RSS list, but they are either less interesting, or update so rarely as to be pointless to point out.

I check these ones ouo have for years ._.;

Something Positive
Misfile

and Homestuck.

I used to read Girl Genius and it was probably my favorite but it got stuck on the same story line for so long I lost interest ._.;

Tohopekaliga 10-26-2015 11:59 PM

I used to read Misfile, but I got bored of it. I felt like it wasn't going anywhere, so I removed it from my RSS list.

Similar to you with Girl Genius, I guess. :P

Glitch 10-27-2015 12:20 AM

Ya they are introducing some new characters finally but no end in sight. It should have one :'(

I will get back into Girl Genius one of these days~~~

CupcakeDolly 10-27-2015 01:14 AM

I'm a fan of a lot of those! Homestuck is the latest one I've read and loved, but I used to really like Megatokyo, Applegeeks, and VG Cats. It just feels like too much work to keep up with webcomics lately.

Glitch 10-27-2015 01:34 AM

Oh! Tavicat --- that's one I always want to keep up on but forget is a thing for month at a time, but it's great.

http://www.tavicat.com/

-which is btw, partially written by Gir from Invader Zim so @u@

Lawtan 10-28-2015 02:54 PM

Why didn't I see this earlier?
Black Tapestries
Realm of Kaerwyn (Same universe, different worlds)
Yes, it is rated R for violence/gore...it is toned down later on... Yes, the initial idea of TwoKinds is like a copy of this (Down to referencing a white wolf named "Issac").

Witchchylde 11-24-2015 03:00 PM

Recently I've gotten into one called Wilde Life, I may be influenced by the fact that it's set in my current state of Oklahoma. But there are ghosts and werewolves and all kinds of coolness. http://wildelifecomic.com/

Horror Babe 11-25-2015 12:15 PM

When im home i'll have to link you guys.

But I read Tab's work, he's finished two series, is working on a very smut one now. But his site I believe is KhaosKomix, could be wrong sorry xD

His first line of work I read was a series, about like, a group of people and their life. Like, they were gay and things. Good read, real sad at times.

His second comic was called Fifty Shades of A, a 50 Shades parody, about a 40 something year old cross dresser whos into BDSM and a mid 20 something asexual guy. Also really good.

Now he's working on Butler smut comic, that I have mixed feelings about xD
Forget the name of it xD

I...have a long list of comics I check throughout the week... I don't really bother with RSS feeds, because I just don't.... but a few that I really like are:

How We Stay Sane @ Work - Yes, this is by a friend of mine, but it's funny and it's safe for work, and it's 90% user submitted stories (including quite a few from me, and a couple drawn by me, too!). The first 100 strips have been collected into a book, too.

Cucumber Quest - This one is on the "cutesy" side in terms of artwork, but it's got a really great story, and the artist tries to update regularly and often does multiple page updates.

Dumbing of Age - This is by the same guy who brought "Shortpacked!" into the world. Updates daily, and he has an ongoing count of where his buffer stretches into right there on the front page.

Now this next one... I'mma be honest, I'm just putting it out here for y'all to decide if it's good or not. I personally think the story's good, and the artwork's getting there...

Banshee Illuminated - Yeah, I'm suggesting my own webcomic... again, I'll let y'all decide if the story's up your alley. I am working on building up my buffer, and I can at least promise I have up to the 8th of January already uploaded, so you won't have to worry about end of the year hiatus stuff... It updates weekly, on Fridays.

Salone 11-26-2015 02:22 AM

Takes foreeeeever to update (the art is serious business here, you could cry over the detail), but Lackadaisy is a nice little take on prohibition era shenanigans. With, er, cats.

Seriously though, the artwork. Especially as the series gets further in, it is simply superb. It takes them forever to update, but you can easily see why.

How daaaare you suggest a webcomic that is finished! How daaaaare you! You even fathom darkening this particular thread with the concept of a webcomic that has completed its planned story arcs and wrapped itself up? Woe be unto you, ye who tempt the ire of fate itself!

...So what'cha got to suggest anyway?

EDIT: Just to be absolutely clear, and to cover my bases, the top portion was entirely done in tongue and cheek.

Tohopekaliga 11-26-2015 02:57 AM

Yes, absolutely. A comic that's on the web is a webcomic! :P Do share.

...Oh, that reminds me of one I used to read, but it ended.

Errant Story. Forgot about that one. was good.

littl3chocobo 11-26-2015 03:01 AM

http://webcomics.yaoi911.com/ artifice which is a fantasy scifi dealio XD read if you like androids and stuff though be warned there is nsfw

http://tjandamal.com/ tj and amal is slice-of-life and is a buddy-roadtrip comedy but also a romance, i 100% reccomend this to anyone who does not mind a gay main char or random silliness butted up against serious topics about ones self and ones family(and a bunch of other spoilery stuff)

Awen Moonshine 11-26-2015 09:22 AM

OMG! Titanic you know Tabs stuff! I loved 50 shades of A and I personally know Tab, he used to live not far from me!

I'm not really one for reading comics in general, let alone web-comics, but Tabs work is really good. His works can be found here : Discord Comics ^_^
