She looked around the room, taking in everything that she saw. There was a large, white leather, L-shaped sofa right in the middle of the room, facing a large metal-framed fireplace with a long black painted Poplar mantel above it. Underneath the sofa was a white carpet, protecting the Tiger Bamboo flooring, and a black metal coffee table with a glass top sat in front of the sofa. A large sliding glass door led out onto a large balcony that was decorated with two large pots at each end of a long planter box and a large wind chime. Inside, on either side of the glass door, were two small black metal side tables that were empty at the moment. On the wall opposite the fireplace, a large painting of wild horses running around in a field hung near the ceiling. The walls were covered in white wallpaper that had an intricate black detailing at the bottom that came up to the center of the wall.

She was speechless. Everything was just so beautiful that she couldn’t imagine why her grandfather, who she had never met, had left his condo to her. Of course, she couldn’t hide the fact that she was happy about it either. It was definitely different from where she had been living before this. She jumped when someone touched her shoulder and looked behind her.

Her grandfather’s lawyer was standing there, watching her. He smiled sweetly. “I hope everything is to your liking, Ms. Presly,” he said, not taking his eyes off of her, making her a little uncomfortable.

She swallowed and smiled. “You can call me Nova, and yes; everything is amazing. I am curious as to why he gave his condo to me. I never knew who my biological grandfather was until you called me three days ago. So, why am I the lucky grandchild that gets this place?” Nova crossed her arms, watching him intently.

The lawyer smiled and opened his bag. He pulled out a stack of papers and handed them to Nova. “I believe all of the answers to your questions are in those letters. If you need anything else just give me a call on my cellphone.” He handed the keys to Nova and then left the condo.

Nova stood there, dumbfounded. What did the lawyer mean by that? She finally shook her head, waking up. She walked over and sat down on the couch, sighing with content. Nova set her keys down on the coffee table gently, not wanting to scratch the glass. “I’ll have to get a cover for that later,” she said to herself as she set the letters on the table too. She picked up the one on the top and looked at the date on it.

April 13, 1986
Hello, Nova. Welcome to the world. My name is Oliver Leatherby, your grandfather. I’m sorry that I couldn’t make it to your birth, but I was doing some business in France and I couldn't get away from it. Your mother sent me a photo of you and you look absolutely adorable. I apologize that this letter is so short. The next one will be longer.

Nova read this letter over three more times as tears started to swell up in her eyes. She wiped her eyes and put the letter down. “This is ridiculous,” she muttered and stood up. She walked over to the glass door and opened it, walking out onto the balcony. Nova gazed down at the people walking around, wondering if any of them were related to her in some way. “Who knew I’d be related to a famous French Architect,” Nova said out loud to no one in particular. Nova shrugged and then started to turn around. She stopped when she noticed something out of the corner of her eye. She glanced to her right and swallowed at what she saw.

A young man, about 21, was standing on a balcony that was two condos away from hers, wearing only a pair of pajama pants. The young man was built rather well. Muscular arms, hints of a six pack, strong square jaw. From what Nova could see, without making it look like she was staring, was that his hair was short and a medium hazel color. She could barely make out some freckles that spread across his nose and under his eyes, but that was all she could see at the moment.
