It had been raining all day, even now the rain fell hiding the silent tears he cried almost as it it cried with him. Sitting under a tree the youth pulled his knees to his chest not caring that he was covered in blood. He didn't know why his family had been targeted or even fully understand what was going on, how could he? He was only eight years old when the terrible hands of fate struck. now drenched to the bone he shivered hot breath warming his leg a little only to make it feel even colder when the heat subsided.

She had started out of the house on a sunny morning, sneaking past the maid, and slipping out the back door, some change jingling in her right pocket. The young girl hummed a tune to herself, skipping along the sidewalk. She spent the day that way, away from her house, just walking and seeing things. This eight year old girl was named Mei, and was only really a curious litttle lady, wanting to find some adventure in the world.

Hours passed, and it had begun to rain, softly at first, then harder, pounding on the streets. Mei then decided that it was getting late, and that she had to return home soon. Turning back on her heel, Mei nearly tripped over a lump on the ground. Startled, she looked closer. The lump was not a lump at all; it was actually a young boy, looking close to her own age. Mei tilted her head, " Hmm? What are you doing here? It's cold outside!"

He looked up as he felt something touch his foot watching as a girl his age tripped over his foot after a second he lowered his head once more not interacting with her. He wanted her to go away and leave him alone so he could die he knew it was cold but it wasn't like he wanted to go home there was nothing there... not anymore. His black hair was now matted down and sticking to the side of his face his white and blood red stained clothing clinging to his skin almost as if it was trying to keep him safe.

Seeing the boy's depression, Mei leaned in closer, pulling the umbrella she had been holding above the two, " What's wrong? Ne, you can tell me, I don't bite." Mei offered the kid a smile, to hint that she wasn't threatening, " Come on, you're going to catch a cold out here..." Mei wondered what the child was doing out here just sitting in the cold rain. Did something happen? Her brows furrowed in childlike frustration.

He lifted his head a little so he could watch her with his emerald green eyes wondering why she insisted on irritating him. Seeing her raise the umbrella he wanted to face palm 'Is she serious? I'm already soaked what good is that gonna do?' he though to himself lowering his gaze once more. "Leave me alone." he finally said his voice as bitter as the torrential rain that continued to fall. ' why the hell does this little princess care? not like she has a care in the world.' he had noted just how expensive her outfit must have been and thought she must have got lost.

Her silky pink dress fluttered a little bit in the wind as Mei continued to question the boy, ignoring the phrase that the boy had said, albeit still being a little offended by it.

I don't want to leave him alone, geez! He's suffering, doesn't he want to be helped?

" Aww, come on, please? At least let me get you some food.."

Mei's soft brown eyes blinked at the boy, begging him to go with her, " Just for a little bit, ne?"

In reality, the girl was planning on dragging the boy with her to her house afterwards, but it wasn't something she was going to mention now.

Again he ignored her raising his head a little his emerald eyes narrowing "leave me alone princess" he scowled his eyes closing he couldn't deny he was hungry but at the same time he didn't want to move or accept charity from someone he didn't know. "No, now leave me alone or the goblins will get you." he stated his voice void of emotion

" Now listen here, you, I am not a princess, let me tell you that!" Mei argued, " I'm just a worried person!" She frowned, grabbing the boy's arm with her own pale hand that had never really been exposed to sunlight, " Furthermore, there is no such thing as a goblin!"

Mei yanked him up, and began to drag the poor guy towards the nearest cafe, regardless if he was putting up any resistance or not.

He looked her up and down snorting as she said he wasn't a princess 'her outfit probably cost more than everything I own,' He though to himself though remained quiet on his thoughts. his eyes instantly narrowed as he was grabbed and the want to hit her overwhelmed him but he never showed it nor did he act on how he felt 'No such things as goblins? Tell that to my family.' he struggled to keep sat down but as she was standing she had the advantage so was pulled to his feet though struggled to stay by the tree though was pulled away "leave me alone princess!" he barked once more really wishing the goblins took her away

She huffed a bit, continuing to pull the boy along, " I am not a princess, and I will not leave you alone!" she shouted, " I just wanna help, geez!"

What is with this boy? I'm just trying to help him, that's what anyone would want to do, correct? It's ridiculous! Why the heck won't he let me help him!?

The two reached a small coffee shop, and Mei pulled him inside, " Just let me get you something to eat, okay?" She smiled at him, " Please?"

Walking up to the counter, Mei said to the kind man who worked there, " Mister, two scones, please."

She set a couple of coins onto the counter, and patiently waited as the man went to grab their scones.

'This girl is irritating why won't she leave me alone do I have to do what the Goblins done to my family to get her to understand?' he sighed "Whatever you say princess.." he said still trying to pull away from her "I don't want your help I want to be left alone!" he said his tone emotionless "I'm not hungry now let me go or I'll scream" he stated, not that he would it was just a waste of time but at this point in time he knew he had no choice against the other it seemed if he wanted to get rid of her he was going to have to let her have her way.

She ignored his comments, being incredibly stubborn herself, anyhow. Mei happily took the scones that had just been brought out for them, and gave one to the boy, " Here, eat it, it's yummy!" She smiled at him, " Ne? I just don't want anything bad to happen to you! You're my age, right? Then what were you doing outside? Don't you..don't you have a family to go back to?"

The overly curious Mei was completely oblivious of the young boy's plight.

He took the scone looking at it for a few seconds before handing it back to her as she started asking questions "It's nothing to do with you princess." he stated heading right for the door he didn't want to have to deal with her and he didn't want to bring up what he classed as the goblins. "If it did it be a blessing." he stated walking out of the shop back towards the tree he had been sitting under before.

Brows wrinkled in frustration, Mei chased after the boy, " Please, wait! I just want...I just want to help! I don't want you to catch a cold, or...or...or anything worse!"
Mei didn't want to think about the inevitable result if the boy stayed out in the rain; death.
She grabbed his arm, " Please...come back to my house with me? My daddy is nice and rich, he'll take care of you! He likes smart kids...not like me...so he'll be kind to you, promise!"

He looked back over his shoulders sighing silently stopping hearing her request "How about I walk you home and then you leave me alone?" he asked turning to walk back to her. He had no intention of staying in a house with people he didn't know for any reason. "You don't know I'm smart." he stated bluntly, he hadn't shown that he was in anyway all he had shown was that he was cold and emotionless.

" W-well," Mei stammered, " I-I mean, I.."

In reality, she was just hoping that he would take it as praise and stay home with her, but his reaction was unexpected, " You..just..seem like a smart person, I guess."

Smiling as she registered his first comment, Mei clapped her hands in excitement, " Yay! Let's go, let's go!"

She then dragged the poor boy towards her house, where she would introduce him to her father, and (hopefully) convince them both to let him stay.

However, when she reached her home, Mei was greeted by a glare from a very angry papa, standing by the gate, " Mei...why were you home so late?"

Mei's eyes clouded with slight alarm, " I..I was just out having fun, Papa, that's all..."She tugged on the hem of her dress, which had been soiled by her running around.

" You insolent child!" bellowed her father, " How could you dirty your dress!? I paid so much for it!"

Angrily, he raised a hand, and slapped the girl, sending her tumbling onto the ground, clasping her cheek in tears, " Sorry..papa..."

He sighed shaking his head walking with her "Only reason people seem smart is because they are surrounded by people who don't understand fully." he stated walking with her believing she really was a fool, but then he guessed he was like that too as he didn't understand fully why Mei was acting the way she was. he stood at the door watching and listening "Goblin." he said silently walking into the room "It was my fault, she tripped over my foot."

" YOU BROUGHT A BOY BACK HOME?! HE IS FILTHY!" he thundered, " STUPID GIRL!" Mei's father lunged forwards to hit her again, " I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU, NO VISITORS! NO ONE SHOULD BE ALLOWED HERE! NO ONE, UNDERSTAND!?" He slapped her once, twice, and three times, then turned towards the boy, " No, it's the stupid child's fault for being so...clumsy! How many times have I told you, watch where you're going?!"

Tears had formed in Mei's eyes as she was beaten, holding her hands above her head, she managed to squeak out, " I'm sorry, Papa!" She was shaking, and braced herself for the next blow.

He moved further into the room "I've been sitting in a park since four in the afternoon yesterday, it's been raining of course I'm dirty." he stated his tone not changing as he spoke "Well that explains a lot..." looks at her "You look so pale because you are locked away, you wouldn't leave me along because your lonely and you want me to stay because you are hurt." he said walking next to her his eyes dead as he stopped ready to pull her back if he struck forward again. "She says you are kind and like smart kids... I wouldn't know about kind.... but I can forfil that second part." he said.

"My intellegence quota is close to three hundred" he said with a silent sigh "Is that more to your liking?" he asked looking to Mei "No I'm not over exagerating and yes I do believe in goblins considering what they done to my family." with that he fell silent, he wanted to leave and never look back but here he was ready to protect this girl for reasons unknown to him.

" Over three hundred?" The father's eyes seemed to spark for a moment, weighing his options, " You'd make a good son; unlike this whining, sniveling idiot." He glared at Mei, who was still shaking and in a stage of shock, " Very well then, I will keep you, and spare the girl, for today. I happen to be in a good mood."

Relieved, Mei began to stand, " What should I do now, Papa?" she managed to say, wiping her tears off her face as she attempted to stay on her feet, which were like jelly from being knocked to the ground so hard.

He looked at him for a moment before looking around "Not over three hundred, almost at three hundred... and I'm eight." he said knowing with the right nurture it gould get better. "I don't want to be someone elses some, I have a daddy... but the goblins got him." his voice remained calm as he helped her to her feet "Um... I don't even know your name." he just began to realised that they hadn't introduced themselves "Good mood why?" he finally asked looking back to the elder man.

" You will be my stepson, then," replied he father, squinting in disgust at the sight of the boy helping his pig of a daughter up, " I am Sunosuke Saito. The idiot there is Sunosuke Meirin. Little bitch she is."

He turned, " I am in a good mood now that it seems the girl has rethought her actions," Sunosuke-San pointed towards Mei, who was shivering and clinging to the emotionless boy, red marks all over her body, " And may I ask, what is your name, boy?"

He blinked listening "I don't want to be a stepchild either..." he stated looking "Nice to know your name princess." he stated his eyes closing "I ask that you don't call her by such names, it's demeaning." his eyes opened revealing two icy blue orbs looking to him. "If you wish me to remain hre as your son all I ask is we are both respected." he didn't know if this was a traditional household if it was then he knew their was nothing that could be done as the man was the head of the house and his word was law. "You can call me Gekido, I am not comfortable with my name being said... the Goblins might find me."

" I will call her what I want," snorted Sunosuke-san, rolling his eyes, " But I will respect you, and attempt to treat the girl in a kinder way." Of course he was lying, as he would never treat Mei with generosity or patience, but this Gekido kid didn't have to know that. He glared at Mei, as if to say, " If you tell him I am lying, there will be a punishment. "

Mei responded by shivering more, and giving a slight nod of her head.

" Now, you two, go upstairs," the man commanded, " And don't come back down until I call for you. "

Gekido sighed a little nodding to his words from what he seen this guy wasn't a goblin, at least not fully in his mind. "Thank you for trying at least... may I enquire as to what you would like me to call you, the last thing I want is to be hit for calling you the wrong thing." he asked his hand going to cover his mouth as he yawned silently "As you wish..." was his reply to the request given "I am sorry for being a burden." with that he turned moving out of the room waiting for Mei to show him where they where going.

She quickly led Gekido up the stairs, urging him to go faster. Mei was afraid her father would change his mind and start beating her again. Once in her room, she sank to the floor, shaking in a heap. Tears flowed out of her eyes as she realized that her father had hit her again. " He said only once..." Mei whispered, shivering and shaking, " Papa...hit...me.."

He allowed himself to be led upstairs his eyes closing as he was pulled along faster, he would stay until she fell asleep then he would leave, there was no way he was going to fit into this life and he knew that for sure. When they entered the large room he looked around in bewilderment he was pretty sure he could fit his family home in that room Hearing her crying he leaned against the door frame "Stop crying... he isn't a full goblin or you'd be dead" he said calmly "Thank you captain obvious I'm not blind I seen he hit you."

Mei sniffed, " A..goblin..?" she was confused by this statement. What was a goblin? Weren't they evil creatures? " But papa...he isn't a goblin," Mei replied, " He just gets mad at Mei because Mei is a bad girl, that's all.." She sniffed, and stood up, " I'll be fine. I..I'm sure I'll be fine as long as Ge-kun is here."

Mei looked towards Gekido, and gave him a shy smile, " ..right?"

Ge looked at her as if she was strange "Is that so hard for you to understand?" he asked his eyes closing "Goblins hurt without thought of their actions... he hurt you, like the two goblins hurt my family and myself." his voice was cold almost dead as he spoke "Even when I was bad my parents never turned into goblins they would take my books away from me." he explained. Listening to the last thing she said to him 'Pressure much.' he thought to himself rolling his eyes while his eyes are closed "I don't have a choice do I, the chances are if I do then he will hurt you until I am retrieved."

MeiI gasped in horror, " Your parents were hurt by goblins?!" Her large brown eyes opened wide in shock and disbelief, " That's horrible!" After hearing Gekido's comment about saying, her eyes brightened, and Mei tackled the young boy, throwing her arms around him, "Thank you, Ge-Kun!"

Mei didn't want to like pressure or guilt onto Gekido, she was merely scared of what would happen if he ran away and left her all by herslef.

Ge opened one eye as Mei spoke about the goblins hurting his parents "My mother, my father, two elder brothers, my elder sister and my baby brother where all hurt by the goblins. I was spared because I was hiding in a closet, we where playing hide and seek." his voice showed nothing as he spoke it was dead no tears fell from his eyes as you'd think it would speaking about such things. "Life continues" he stated plainly.

Ge fell backwards onto the floor as he had been caught off guard by the overly exuberant Mei "You're troublesome." he stated trying to wiggle himself free

She was frozen as Ge relayed his horrible past to her, unblinking, "...Ge-kun.." she managed to squeak out, " ...That's horrible..."

Mei had an iron grip when she was happy, and didn't let go of Ge, " Thank you thank you thank you thank you...I don't have to be alone anymore..."

She trusted this boy more than anything at this point, though Mei hardly knew him at all...but she would soon.


< Time Skip: 5 Years >

The thirteen year old Mei skipped happily into Gekido's room, a big smile on her face," Ge-kun, Ge-kun, good morning!" She then followed the enthusiastic wake up call with a tackle directed towards the boy.

Ge opened his eyes looking down at Mei a little "Like I said life moves on." it seemingly unphased him that his family had been hurt. He felt how her grip got tighter the more he squirmed but it didn't stop him from trying to get free. "If you are thankful then let me go Mei." he stated trying to get her arms from around his waist, he could understand why she seemed so clingy to him but it didn't mean he had to like it, did it?

Now at the age of thirteen he had been within Mei's family for five years and during that time had taken the punishments to keep the girl who wanted to protect him all those years ago safe. It was an important day to them both as they where going to be starting middle school. He knew what Mei was like so had decided to play a trick on her that morning by getting up early and positioning pillows in the bed to make it seem like he was still sleeping before getting dressed and going to the tree in the backyard that he had always done in the last five years to study.

Her head hit the soft pillows, and for a moment, Mei was confused, " Huh? Ge-kun?" Then she realized, " Oh, he must have replaced himself with pillows, typlical Ge, ahaha!"

Mei chuckled to herself as she sat up, looking around his organized room. Her room, on the other hand, was a total and complete mess. She gazed happily about, the guy had stayed here for so long, and for her own sake too.

It was the first day of school, and Mei remembered this as she looked at the clock on the side of the room, noticing that it was nearly time, and they had only fifteen minutes. She jumped up, and ran down the stairs, clad in a uniform and a bow on the side of her head, and hurried outside.

Ge had noticed the time and left five minutes before towards the school, he was curious as to what the new day would bring, good or bad he was glad that he was at least out the house and away from Mei and their father. At the moment he was far different from his room, his shortish black hair was styled to make it look kind of messy, black shoes, black trousers and blazer, underneath he wore a white shirt that the top two buttons open and his red tie was loose making him seem more punk than the uptight, neat, freak he was. Hanging from his shoulder was a red messenger bag. "She's going to be late if she doesn't hurry up." he whispered silently to himself.

Her uniform consisted of a black blazer with red trimmings, white undershirt, and a red bow, along with a red pleated skirt and white kneesocks. The red bow she had fastened to the side of her head fluttered in the wind as she grabbed her black suitcase styled backpack that was laid just outside the door.

Mei ran down the street, running in the direction of her school. Ge could be seen on the other side of the sidewalk, and Mei giggled. How very like him, to start out of the house early. After a few minutes, Mei had caught up to Ge, calling his name, " Ge-kun!"

Ge continued to walked down the street he knew their father would have likely preferred that they used the driver but he enjoyed walking not that he really wanted to go to a snotty middle school filled with spoilt brats who would sell out their own friends and family if it meant they could get ahead, he couldn't help but shudder at the thought as it made his skin crawl. He heard his now name being called but ignored it as he took a left towards the park and began walking towards the tree that seemed to have began this bizarre twist of fate.

Soon he stopped at the tree his hand landing flat on it his head moving to rest on it as his eyes closed his lips moving but no sound coming out, he looked somewhat tranquil and almost human. "Will today be the day to face the goblins?" he whispered his eyes opened revealing the same pure yet lifeless ice blue orbs he had sported the last five years, but the facial expression though subtle showed he was sad, his eyes looked over to a house that had remained empty and voice of life for the last five years.

She pouted a little when he ignored her, then shrugged it off. Typical Ge, Mei thought to herself, giggling a bit. She had gotten used to his cold and blunt behavior, and knew that it wasn't his fault, it was the 'goblins' that had destroyed his family. They had chased the happy and carefree Ge away, and replaced him with someone colder.

She stopped at the edge of the entrance to the garden like plot of land Ge's tree was in. MRI knew it was important to Ge, and therefore took careful measures as not to disturb him. She watched his lips move in a silent orayer, and a trace of sadness flicker across his face. After a few minutes, Mei decided to break the silence, " Ge-kin, we'll be late!" She exclaimed, waving him over.
