Fave Horror Movies!
So I was just wondering what are some of your fave horror movies? or killers? I have been on a Hellraiser kick recently and love the Saw series!
|
Silence of the Lambs. The other Hannibal movies were pretty good too. I also love anything Stephen King.
|
Not so much a movie character, but Dexter will always be my favorite killer.
|
Hard to say, but probably Aliens and Jaws if it counts.
|
Of they count one is SciFi Horror and the other was classified as horror when it came out I believe -loves Jaws- and Yes Dexter is a wonderful Killer he kills bad people!! Never really actually seen any of the Hannibal movies just pieces of some :P
|
Dexter is pretty great. xD
|
Jaws is classifed as horror, and it reads such on my DVD. It's probably my favourite then, though I've seen it so many times that it hardly counts as "horror" anymore.
Saw was a good movie, but I don't plan on watching it again really. I think it did it's *horror* job pretty well, without going too far into grose-out stuff and gratuitus pain. I hate that. |
Saw is great from a psychological aspect as well!
|
Yeah. I think that's mostly why I liked it too. I don't plan on seeing the others really, but I did enjoy the first one.
Even though I guessed it might end the way it did, it still surprised me, probably because I didn't really *believe* it would actually happen that way. That movie is about as much tension as I can take though, hence not planning on watching the rest. |
Going back to favourite horror movies again, the other one I really like is Final Destination 2. I've seen most of the series so far Didn't see all of the 5th one yet but didn't really bother since by now they are all pretty much more of the same. That is what makes them fun though. ;)
The second is my favourite because I like how they expanded the concept from the first one and they made it less obvious that something supernatural was out to kill them. Three, in my opinion is not worth anyone's time. -.- |
yeah three was pretty bad haha Saw 2 and 3 are clser to an expanded story line then I kind of gets outta wack Saw 2 was a wonderful Horror movie My fave of the series!
|
I didn't like Saw anymore after the first couple movies. It started out with a neat concept, but after a point it became obvious that the writers hadn't really planned the whole series out and are just trying to draw as much profit as possible from it. I feel like they spend ninety-five percent of their time designing new ways to torture people and only the other ten figuring out a bullshit way to connect them.
Final Destination needed to stop after one movie. I never really thought it was awful, but it certainly does not have the right plot to become a series. |
I think the sequel actually attached really well to the original though, and they did justify it with the plot extension. I like it better than the first myself. From three and on though, not a chance. I think it's now a matter of seeing how creatively people can die and I think that's what the audience is looking for too.
And I just learned that Sam Raimi directed the Spider-Man movies. Never really thought about the name being familiar but he also did the Evil Dead and Army of Darkness movies. hee hee! That explains the Bruce Campbell cameos I think. Didn't even notice him in the first movie. Not a fan of Spider-Man, but I've seen Army of Darkness many times and went to the Evil Dead musical when it came here. XD |
me and Sam Raimi do not share the same view of venom he hates him Venom -the symbiotes- are intriguing! but yeah Sam Raimi I believe has gone back to Horror movies I believe! also Final Destination has kind of been like a Grindhouse style movie in disguise if you think about all the way people die is intriguing at least!
|
I think Deathless is the only Grindhouse movie I've seen any parts of. I only saw the end. From what I understand I don't know that I would have liked the movie. It's interesting to see people die in creative ways but I really don't like it when there is a lot of focus on someone's pain and terror. It's one of the reasons I won't watch Hostel and I wasn't keen on FD3. FD3 just spent too long on gratuitus death scenes. In my b-grade opinion, they could have doubled the cast and killed them all off in the time it took to kill off the people they did.
I think they tried to kill off people in creative ways in the third one but tried to put in plot becasue they felt obligated to do it. FOr number four it seems to me they god rid of the plot entirely and just went with interesting death since that's pretty much what people watch the sequels for anyway, in my experience. ;). One and two are good enough for plot. The rest is just "how can we kill these people?" |

It's probably both. I haven't seen the rest of the Saws so I couldn't really say.
I think Saw is winning so far though. They're up to 6 now, aren't they? FD has 5. |
The only Saw movie I actualy like (and still kind of love) is the first one. I LOVED that epic part at the end where Jigsaw gets up with the awesome theme song, that just blew my mind to hell and back. The rest, I just put them in torture porn, because, honestly, that's what they are. (And *censored* that god damn needle pit from 2 I think.)
My favorite horror movie though is... ehhh... I kind of don't know really. I'm trying to think of horror movies and the only thing that I can come up with is From Dusk Till Dawn if that counts. (And I kind of only vaguely remember this movie). Maybe Army of Darkness (I need to rewatch that.) Oh wait no, does Let the right one in counts? I've seen people say it's horror. I kind of see it and I kind of don't, but I like that movie. Although I've seen 2 version of it, the one I own has a crazy cat lady in it that wasn't in the other, and something about a burning bed that, again, I don't remember much of. I haven't seen the other one I've seen when I rented it for the first time again for some reason. That's weird. |
Let the Right One In is a Swedish film that I don't think is really consudered horror. I haven't seen it but it comes off to be as a story about two people where one person happens to be a vampire so somethings are bound to happen.
Let Me In is the American made version of the same movie, and from what I heard leans more towards horror than the original did. |
Ohhhh, I think the first one I saw was Let Me In, but never saw it again, and I somehow manage to buy the Sweddish version O.o That explains a lot. Yeah, that's what I taught, it wouldn't be considered horror.
|
I think it was first translated and brought over, then it was remade. I think a similar thing happend with Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. One of the movies was translated from Swedish and another was made in the United States.
|
I loved Let the right one in <3 so good and different! it was also based on a book like the Girl with the dragon tatto
|
Yeah, my Swedish teacher talked about it but I missed the Nordic club film night when they showed it, in Swedish of course. No English language films allowed!
Two movies that I liked, while not very common, were well made horror films. Not sure if they were Hollywood or independant. Frailty was the first one, about a son narrating the story of how he came to learn who a serial killer was that is currently attacking people. Less horror, more psychological. Deathwatch was the other. I picked up that one at the rental place because I am interested in war movies. It was about a haunted trench in WWI and had Andy Serkis in it (Golum from LOTR). My favourite scene was of a guy caked head to toe in mud, no part of him visible until he opened his eyes. I remember imagining the work it must have taken to pull that off for make-up. For another not-so-well known (as far as I'm aware) slasher/b-grade movie, I like Dog Soldiers. Soldiers get holed up in a house and must fight werewolves. Pretty basic plot, but I like it because the werewolves are done with animatronics and puppetry rather than computer and it's neat to see, and because the men getting killed are soldiers, so they can actually put up an admirable fight (*really* admirable fight) instead of quivering and being eaten. Frailty I'm pretty sure is American but Deathwatch and Dog Soldiers are both European. Deathwatch is UK and Germany while Dog Soldiers is UK and Luxembourg (and apparently USA as well checking IMDB). |
Oh, and gorey, bloody, death-every-two-minutes slasher fans should check out Hatchet and Hatchet 2, but mostly Hatchet. Horror movie produced and I think directed by Kane Hodder, stuntman who played Jason in most of the Friday the 13th films, minus Freddy vs. Jason. Takes place in the Bayou outside of New Orleans and the cameos are amusing. :). Movie still makes me edgy.
|
I love Ginger Snaps. Freddy Krugger. 80's horror in general. B-rated is awesome. Ghost Ship had the craziest awesome beginning in a movie ever.
|
I love almost any horror movie really the worse it is I will usually like it better because I do like to mix my horror with comedy especially unintended comedy
|
Hatchet has some pretty graphic ways to kill people. The sequel even more so. I think that's part of what Hodder had in mind.
I remember Ginger Snaps! That movie apparently had a pretty good reputation as an independant film. They talked about it on a documentary I watched on Canadian horror films (apparently we have something of a reputation for those). It was interesting look at the differences between American and Canadian horror film. Never saw the sequel though. I've seen Ghost Ship several times. It's one of those movies I turn to when I see it on TV. :) |
Night for old movies! The Legend of Hell House (1958) was on TV, and now it's House on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price. (I've seen the remake several times) I like these old movies sometimes. Didn't get to see all of Hell House though, might have to watch that one again. The set design is neat.
EDIT: aaaand wow. Cheesiest ending ever. If I weren't tired at the time I would have been near hysterics I think. As it was all I was inclined to hang my jaw like I was trying to say something while nothing came out and raise one eyebrow, which I'm sure was reflexive anyway. I like Vincent Price though. He's neat just to listen to. |
Hmmm so my fave horror movie I would have to say The Room it was horror to watch. No no, Just kidding, I would have to say I like Dead Space it was short and to the point. I am the manry-est of men! |
I just watched Red State. Which apparently is horror... but I don't know what to classify it as really.
|
Never heard of it. It new? Or perhaps old?
|
Red States? Wasn't that a war movie? Also, is Species considered horror movie? I kinda like the first one (I just baught the whole collection for 10$ lol I didn't know there was a 4th one O.o). Although I don't remember much of them, except that Sil had tentacle nipples...thing. (yupe, that's what I remember from the whole movie lol).
Speaking of buying, I also got Let me in, wich is the other version I talked about when I mentionned Let the right one in. So now I have both :D |
I think that Species counts as horror in the same way that Alien does, sort of an action type. I only saw the first one. If it's the movie I'm thinking of, my main thought was why would they mess with unknown DNA in the first place?
|
Right now the movie I really like that is horror movie is Cabin in the Woods it really good and turns everything you know about horror movies on it head just really good. I am the manry-est of men! |
Oh Really? My roommate hates that movie! I want to see it though!
|
Rico how the remake of it? I have been not wanting to watch it because I love the Original so much and do not have much faith in american remakes
|
Well, I like it, it kind of the same but with little difference here and there and a scene or two changed or just not there (like the part with that one person on fire (that onfused me because I saw the remake first without knowing it) and the crazy cat person.) I think they have both different name too, one the little boy is called Oscar the other one is Owen. Honestly, I love both. I think the ending is different too. (I need to rewatch them, they're both kind of mixed in my mind)
@Nikko, I hear it's good because everyone told me it was, except for some reason my mom didn't like it and I taught it would be her kind of movie. |
I didn't think anything of it when the showed previews of it. But this really good, it was something I was not expecting and just the idea and twist they have was pretty cool. I am the manry-est of men! |
halloween (all of them)
freddy vs. jason hellraiser (all of them) puppet master nightmare on elm street (all of them) leperchaun (all of them) |
