Lost in Madness [M]
Story Background: Three years ago the great Kingdom known as Dalibor became nothing but ruins. An unknown enemy at the time attacked the Kingdom. The village was first, the woman taken to torture, the children turned into child soldiers, the elderly were killed and the men either became slaves or soldiers. The enemy then made their way to the castle, behind them the village burned. Despite having trained for years the soldiers of the royal family could not withstand the great numbers of the enemy. One by one they fell, foot by foot the castle was conquered. The leader of the enemy reached the grand ball room. The object that he greatly desired rested there, the Princess who was celebrating her sixteenth birthday. Though he was immediately stopped by her loyal guard, during the struggle the Princess fled from the enemy. She ran to the rear of the castle, then out into the garden. Though there was no where to go, desperate to escape from the enemy she jumped into the waters below. The sea swallowed her up, the force left her unconscious as she drifted away from her home. When she awoke she knew nothing but her name, a couple had discovered her and had brought her back to their home. They later decided to keep the Princess seeing as she had no home and the woman was never able to have any children as her own. Though they did not know who she was. Ever since she was born the Princess had been held behind the castle's walls. Now... this story takes place in the present with the Princess living her new life with her new family. And unknowing to her the past is about to return.
Story until now: After nearly being captured from her hoely little vllage Emily has been travelig with a wizard that goes by the nameof Alton. The two hve managed to stay out of the enemies grasp for the time being but not without a few close encounters and some adjusting to get use to the others company. Afer the shakey start between the two they came to an agreement to travel together, but not beore Alton ende up being roped into training or at least attempting to tran Emily in the magic arts. This on it's own was a task easier said then done unde the best conditions, let alone te ones they had. Not too long into their travels they came across Felix, unknown to Emily at first this man was her soon to be beloved husband. Though with her memories still hazy she seemed to not share the same feelings for this now stranger as she did before. All the while Alon was keping his own secrets from his traveling companion, one that would prove to be a issue later down the road. Currently the two parted ways from Felix's manner andfound themselves in the middle of a town that had been slaughtered, all but one small child. |
Character Sheet:
Played By: Daren Name: Alton Aonar of the Rilynghym line Race: Drow (aka dark elf) Gender: Male Age: 27 Appearance: Standing at about 6'2 with silvery white hair he's hardly anything special to look at among his kind. Nothing that sets him apart really, he's not the tallest of them that's for sure, the only rare feature he even possesses is that one eye is white while the other remains it's normal red color. But there is reason for this, on the right side of his face there seems to be a rather large burn scar, covering a good portion of that half of his face, including his eye. He keeps his hair pulled back in most cases minus what few strands that seemed to stay in front or at the side of his face. Equipment: Normally includes potion ingredients, as well as scrolls (some being blank while others are not. The only object he seems to keep in his possession at all times is a rather old looking tomb.. Wardrobe: He dresses much like a common traveler, though his robes probably give away what he really is. Not that he's trying to hide his true colors, the only thing he really hides is his face. In most cases he prefers to keep his hood up and refuses to answer people when they ask if he or what he is hiding. Bio: One of the many long forced to do the bidding of the evil lord looking to over throw the current kingdom, a child solider or rather in this case a gifted solider. The uncommon ability to use any form of magic he was presented with earned him a easier route then most under the lord's command. Though during the raid on the castle he was far from a child then, in fact he lead one of the forces that forced their way into the central part of the castle. Even with his skills and phrase from the being he took orders from he was far from content with this so-called life. In the two years that passed he had begun to dabble with forbidden arts, ones that were long said destroyed in the last ancient war. Even with his plans to turn against the new found king of these lands he kept his place, he needed a time a reason to make such a bold act against the current ruler. To go about it blindly was asking to be hacked down on the spot... |

Emily could feel the child tremble as she held her and worried that she may never be alright. She could not imagine what Bianca had seen and what she continued to see when she closed her eyes and Emily could only hope that she would live a normal life. Morning came quicker than she had expected, once the child had fallen asleep in her arms she soon drifted off into a deep sleep herself. She only woke late in the morning when Bianca stirred in her arms. The child didn't speak much once she was awake, she listened at least which allowed Emily to tell her where they were going and what they were planning to do. After a brief explanation and receiving a slight nod from the girl she took Bianca's hand in her own and left the little shed that they had sought shelter in for the night. Outside it was chilly despite it nearing the early afternoon now. Emily had noticed the change in weather as they continued their journey and from studying the map she could tell that it would only become colder. Emily removed her cloak then leaned down wrapping it around the child, Bianca look up at her confused by this. "It's cold, you will need that for where we are going." The girl opened her mouth to protest but nothing came out, instead she silently accepted the cloak. "Don't worry about me, I'll be fine." Emily said then smiled at her, she took the girl's hand in her own then went over to the horses. After checking the bags strapped to the horses she leaned down to help Bianca get onto the horse. Emily lifted her and once the girl was seated properly she looked around for Alton then called out for him. "Alton?" She spoke as clearly and as loud as she could so that he could hear, then she waited. |
For the most part he remained silent, the child seemed to fair better the less he said and the further he stayed away from her. Not that he could blame her for that, not after what had taken place in her probably peaceful little village. Even as morning came he tried to give Emily and the girl space to prevent any further stress on the child. Instead he went about any preparations that needed to be done in silent as Emily seemed to glance over the map and take care of the child.
They needed to find somewhere to leave the girl though, no matter how attached to Emily she was. It was far too dangerous to take a small child with them, there was no promises that she could be protected during the remainder of their trip. He was sure Emily knew this as well, she was probably trying to find the next town. Rather he hoped that was her plan, she had to know that the girl couldn't stay with them. After this was all over with then Emily could always go back and get the child, but until then it was better for her to stay with someone else. Alton was snapped from his thoughts as Emily spoke up calling out to him. It was probably a fair sign that she was ready to go, the girl was already on one of the horses and there was nothing left here for them to take care of. Walking over to the two of them he still kept a small distance to prevent the child from feeling as uneasy, she seemed fine so long as he stayed at a certain distance from her. "We should leave if your ready, staying here isn't going to solve anything." He had a point, only death was left here. Odds were that the group that had done this could come back to make sure their work was finished, even if they wouldn't be much of a match Alton still didn't want to waste the time to fight them, let alone to let the chance that word could get back to the current ruler that Emily was located once more... |
It startled her when the other approached her and the young girl, after discovering the mess that had been left here she was still on edge. Emily looked over at Alton and listened then nodded agreeing with him. "You are right," she said then she approached him and spoke softer. "We have to find somewhere for this poor girl to go, it will be too dangerous for her to travel with us. I just hope that we can find a new home for her before we get too far." She felt guilty wanting to rid herself and Alton of the child but it would do no good to bring her along. Their destination was in the middle of no where, in a land with harsh, cold weather, unknown beasts and many foes. Though she did not want to think about it Emily knew very well that the child would not make it too far, she would die. "I am as ready as I ever will be, so we may leave now if you are ready as well." She smiled at the other though it was a weak one, then she retreated from him and returned to her horse. "Bianca?" The child looked down at Emily from upon the horse. "We are going to leave now, alright?" She asked and Bianca simply nodded. Emily lifted herself up onto her horse, she paused for a moment feeling Bianca's arms wrap tightly around her then once she was settled upon her horse she looked over at Alton. "Next is a big stop," she said then looked away from the other. "I have no clue how long we may be there." The next stop had been circled by Felix and he had pointed it out as one of her allies. A woman lived there, a Queen or maybe a Princess, Emily could not remember. Felix had told her that she was kind and knew her mother and father very well. Emily wondered what this woman knew about her parents, she would have to find the right moment to speak with her in privacy. Emily pulled on the reigns causing her horse to snort, then the beast began to walk. It didn't take long for it to grow colder as they traveled, despite the thickness of her clothes she could feel it and hoped that being under-dressed would not make her ill. It did not help that she felt stiff and sore from how poorly she had slept and that now she had the responsibility of finding a home for a child. When could she finally get some proper rest? When would this journey finally end? She knew that she could not give up but everything was seemingly becoming more difficult and tedious as they grew closer to their destination. As the sky grew darker Emily began to worry, the night felt cooler than the afternoon had been and she could see her breath with every breath that she took. She turned her head to look over at Alton not sure of what to say. "I think there will be a small stop nearby, hopefully it is friendly enough to rest for the night then we can continue in the morning." Not only did she have to worry for her own safety and Alton's but now she worried for Bianca's as well. "It is safe," Bianca said then squeezed Emily from behind. "I have been there before, I know the way." Emily fell silent for a moment shocked that the girl was speaking so soon. "Can you show us the way?" She asked and Bianca nodded. "Alright, just tell me which way to go then." Not much time passed by the time they arrived at what appeared to be a small village. Though as they approached Emily noticed that there were not much others around, a few Elves seemed to look up at them suspiciously and it made her feel uneasy. The last thing that she needed was to either be captured or to have an encounter with the Queen's men again. Emily forced her horse to come to a stop then when Alton stopped beside her she looked over at him. "Something isn't right.." She said and then she felt Bianca suddenly let go of her. Emily turned her head quickly to look back at the child and watched as she lifted herself off of the horse. "Bianca!" She yelled, Emily released the reigns from her hands then quickly got off of the horse herself. "What are you doing?" She asked, Bianca had begun to run and Emily could not stop herself from doing the same. She followed her, pushing past others as she did so and for a moment she was afraid that she had lost Bianca until she turned down an alley between two homes and found her. The child now stood at the end of the alley in front of a woman. "Did I please you mother?" Bianca asked, the woman leaned down and wrapped her arms around her. "Yes, you did, now it's time for you to finally sleep." She whispered softly to her child, a soft purple glow came from Bianca and what appeared to be smoke escaped from the child's mouth and eyes. Emily watched horrified as the child became limp in the woman's arm, then she became afraid when the woman finally looked up bringing her attention to her. "What did you do?" Emily questioned and the woman grinned then laughed, she laid Bianca gently on the ground then stood. "You poor naive girl, you haven't a clue about what you have gotten yourself into, have you?" Emily took a step back and as she did her body fell into another's, she turned realizing that a tall, build man stood behind her with light hair, dark skin and eyes. "What is this?" She asked and the woman just smiled. |
For the whole trip he had kept any thoughts to himself, giving simple answers if Emily asked or nodding to reply to her questions. But the further they traveled the more he kept thinking that something seemed off about this route. If they were on their way to a town even a small one there should be some form of life in-between here and there. A wagon or some villagers that lived just outside of the main collection of houses. Anything would have eased his thoughts but this area seemed almost as barren as the town that they had just left that had been destroyed.
Not once did he question where they were going as far as the small stop along their travels. Most of the towns weren't under the Queen's rule being this far out of the way or at least not the smaller towns. But maybe he was wrong? That or another force could have come into play under the Queen's nose. He shook his head a little dismissing the thoughts. Maybe he was just being overly cautious. They had ditched the Queen's men some time back, they were on their way to a friendly marked town everything was fine. Or rather he wanted himself to believe such a lie when deep down he felt something was wrong. His thoughts came back to haunt him after the child spoke up finally saying she knew the way to the next town and would show them. Why speak up suddenly, it seemed out of place for the child to talk out of the blue. Though Emily seemed to trust the girl so at the moment all he could do was follow her and the child's directions. Even as they were lead right into the town and he noticed the few villagers standing about watching them his gut was saying to stay alert and to not let Emily get out of his sight. Nothing here felt friendly, sure he was use to villages being uneasy with his presence but this was a different feeling altogether. He never got to voice his thoughts as the girl seemed to spring from the horse and run off down a ally closely followed by Emily. Now he knew something was wrong. Before he could even get her name out the few villagers that had 'greeted' them seem to draw closer to make sure Emily was separated from him. Hissing out a few words he quickly spoke up a warning that he would not hold back if they continued to stand in his way. He knew it fell upon deaf ears. But he would give them a moment, or at least till he knew what was going on before he bothered striking... Emily was still close enough he could sense her energy, but it seemed to spike suddenly as if she knew she was in danger. ((omg that was short but im on a bit of a time limit anyway.)) |
( That was good, don't worry about it! ) As the woman approached her leisurely Emily's fear grew and when the woman finally stood mere inches away from herself she felt hot. Inside her chest her heart beat quickened and inside her mind was a mess. She had known that something was off from the very beginning but she could quite what exactly was off, of course she had never expected this. To be lured into an alley in the middle of nowhere, the child that she had protected to be one risen from the dead to simply trick her and to now be trapped between two unfamiliar, seemingly unfriendly Elves. The woman who stood before her appeared to be a hunter, perhaps hired to track down Emily by the Queen or someone else. Emily knew that even if she asked she would not receive an answer but the question still escaped her. "What is the purpose of this? Who has hired you?" She said with as much confidence as she could, behind her the man laughed and the woman brought a hand just under Emily's chin. "My dear, what a mouth on this one. If you speak to me like that again I may just cut out your tongue! Though I don't think that would go very well.. I was told to bring you back in one piece." Emily froze when the woman touched her and her eyes grew wide when she spoke. "What a pretty one you are! No wonder he has his eye on you.. And your presence.." Her eyes closed and she seemed pleased. "I am certain that you are the one and if you would like to remain alive you should cooperate, alright?" The woman took a step back from her then looked up at the man. "Make sure to have a good hold on her, it took me very long to find her and I do not want to have to explain that she escaped." She hissed then she returned her gaze to Emily. "Now... what to do about that friend of yours?" She paused for a moment and hummed softly to herself. "Ah.. I think that the others will be plenty to distract him." She said then snapped her fingers. "Now, let's be off in a hurry! We don't want you to be late, Princess!" Emily wanted to resist the man as he took hold of her but found that fighting would be no good, she had not trained enough to know everything about her abilities and using them could possibly cause her to lose control of herself. Instead she cooperated, for now, and allowed these two to escort her out of the village. The man forced her to sit upon a horse then climbed onto it as well, he sat behind her with his arms around her to prevent her from trying to flee. When the woman climbed onto her own horse she spoke briefly to the man in a language that Emily could not comprehend, then they left. As they left she could hear noise from the village and she feared the worse. |
Alton waited to get a reply of some kind from the small gathering here, but after he didn't get even the lightest answer he knew something was very wrong here. More so then he first had bothered to pay attention to. Why didn't he pick up on it before? It was magic he knew himself all too well yet he had let it go unnoticed, Emily was far from safe if there was a user of the dark arts around. The so called villagers were just reanimated puppets, the whole group of them. He would bet anything the child was a lure just to get Emily away.
He almost wanted to curse himself, for being so blind and letting this happen. A few moments later it seemed Emily's energy had left the area and whatever had happened she had regained herself causing the sudden spike to die off making it harder to track her. Muttering a few words under his breath the area quickly grew dark as a faint aura surrounded him at his words. "Your master would have been wise not to anger me..." He hissed out before the puppets before him seemed to fall to the ground each one releasing a spirit of sorts as the ties to whoever has animated them were cut. He allowed all of the energy to be released, all but one that he held a extended hand towards as his eyes glowed blood red in the darkened area. "Running will do no good.." He said as he seemed to read where the connection from this energy ended at, back at it's master. The one who had been controlling the villagers probably knew as soon as her links were severed, and he made sure she heard his final warning to her. Caring little as to who had done such a thing, he disliked any other dark arts user. This one would be no exception... even if she didn't kill the villagers it gave her no right to use them to her will. After he was done getting a general location of whoever he was tracking he quickly returned to the horse and went about trying to track where Emily was. If luck was with him he would cross paths with her and her captors not too far from town. Then they could go about getting to the next marked 'safe' haven. But not before he took care of the dark magic user who had crossed him. Whoever had hired the woman probably forgot to tell her who Emily was traveling with. Most magic users have a aura that gives away what element they use or have mastered. Alton kept his hidden and with good reason. Dark magic was not welcome in most areas, it was looked down upon. Most users were killed if they were found or at least in older times. Aside from that it kept his energies in check to make sure nothing he came across was corrupted or ended up rising from it's grave without his willing it to do so. |
( Sorry this was lame. ) As they grew farther and farther away from the village Emily begun to wonder how she could escape from these two. She knew very well that the woman would be the biggest problem, she had the ability to bring the dead back life and to use them as she pleased. The man however did not seem to be a magic user and he had an axe strapped to his back. Though of course she had to be cautious, he could always have an unexpected ability. He was a rather large man, tall and built, but she knew that if she was quick enough and considering her size she could both avoid him and flee easily. It was simply a matter of choosing the proper time to do so, if the woman ever left her alone with him that would be her best chance. Emily would have to wait patiently and hope that such an opportunity would be handed to her. It became darker as they continued to travel and as time continued to pass Emily felt less hopeful. Frustrated she became desperate to flee from these two, by now the man behind her had become relaxed and seemed to be consumed by his own thoughts. The woman rode farther ahead of them and eventually had stopped checking them every so often. They were traveling down a trail that rested between many trees, Emily observed her surroundings before figuring that she could escape from this man and flee into the forest before the woman even realized what had happened. For a moment she waited and inside her mind she encouraged herself to at least try. She knew that whoever had hired this woman did not want any harm to come to her, the woman had said it herself. If anything she would only receive a beating, but she would certainly be kept alive and far from tortured. After hesitating for what seemed like forever she finally took action, Emily elbowed the man behind her in his stomach as hard as she could, when he reflexively flinched she took advantage of him. She wiggled out of his grasp causing herself to fall flat onto the ground below, then within moments she was running towards the forest as fast as she possibly could. She fled into the forest, behind her she could here the woman and man arguing then footsteps. She wondered how far she could get before they captured her once again. |
((It was fine, I can work with it :) ))
All he could do was ride forward and pray that he crossed paths with whoever took Emily. It was all he could to from trying to push the poor beats he was on any harder to make up for the lost ground. Still he couldn't pick up on where Emily was, sure he had shown her how to hide her aura but sometimes it still managed to slip out, he was half counting on that now. Or at least he thought he was, he stopped suddenly as he noticed two horses off of the path a little with no riders. Odds were these belonged to whoever took Emily, but why dismount here? He got his answer as he noticed that the ground seemed displaced a little like there was a bit of a struggle before someone ran off. This was good, Emily was probably safe enough if she wasn't captured already... They would have to return for the horses, it was far faster to travel by horse then it was by foot. He figured waiting around here would be a safe enough bet to bring about the meeting of the kidnappers and Emily. Sure he knew Emily had powers and was pretty good at avoiding people, but the dark arts were easy to use to track someone. If the person so willed it you could control a living being instead of just a corpse... but it wasn't as easy to do nor did most beings enjoy such punishment. TO lose control of your body was not a feeling that was pleasant at all. He stood a little away from where the horses were so he'd be out of site till whoever returned was closer. To admit he was impatient with this next part as he drew a small symbol towards the ground with a extended finger. The ground glowed just faintly as a small bird seemed to claw from its earthen resting place. The same similar purple aura from what the crow had filled the bird. "Find her, and give her my message." He spoke under his breath to the creature before it flew off. It was to tell Emily to let herself get caught, they would regret returning to their horses. The bird alone was a give away as to who sent the message, not maybe people could bring thew dead back. well sure this woman could but she didnt show any signs of being about to control something that had been long dead, just the fresher corpses. |
Emily crashed through the forest as fast as she could, a few times she nearly ran straight into a tree when she looked behind to see how close the other two were. When she realized that they were out of sight it made her worry even more, just because she could not see them did not mean that they were not there. They had been hired to capture her and she had listened very closely to their brief conversations, well at least the ones that she could understand. Giving up on capturing her was not a possibility, they were closer than she thought they were and she could not let her guard down. As she ran she struck her foot against an root that had freed itself from the dirt. Emily let out a soft cry startled by this then stumbled forward, she reached out into the darkness finding a tree to balance herself against. When she finally stopped running she found it hard to catch her breath, how long had she been running for now? She had no clue but her legs ached now and she was exhausted. A sudden noise caught her attention and she looked around frantically wondering what it could be. Then she saw a light in the distance, a dim one that was purple. Emily watched it for a moment trying to make out what was approaching her, then she reached out her hand for the bird to land. "Alton.." She breathed out the words then looked curiously at the bird now perched upon her hand. When the bird spoke she was in disbelief, what if this was a trick? What if the woman had done this and not Alton? She thought for a moment then told the bird to be off. She watched as it left her and felt completely confused and frightened but she had to put what little trust she had into this. She had to have some hope. "You have done it now, haven't you?" Emily looked over her shoulder towards the direction that she believed she had heard someone speak. "You lost her, in this damn forest! You better count your blessings that I know how to track her at least. We may have some hope of finding the damn woman!" Then the woman began to speak in another language, the man laughed and spoke back. Emily stood still for a moment in silence then she turned herself towards them. Get yourself caught... She thought to herself then shook her head in disbelief. Emily forced herself to get on her knees, then she laid down on the ground as if she had fallen. Inside her mine she wanted to refuse doing such a thing but she had no clue what else she could do. Instead she laid there like a present for the other two then she called out for help frantically. It wasn't long before the two found her, she cringed as she heard their footsteps quicken and then looked up at them frightened as they stood over her. "Get up," the woman demanded then she leaned down taking Emily by her arm. "Poor little girl, did you hurt yourself? Let me have a look at you!" Emily let out a cry when the woman pushed her up against a tree. "Did that hurt? I'm sorry, perhaps next time I will be more gentle with you or perhaps there will not be a next time." She growled then she pulled Emily from the tree and pushed her towards the man. "Walk, keep quiet and don't make any sudden movement unless you wish to be struck or worse." |
After waiting what felt like forever the bird seemed to return and that meant the message was delivered. Now if she trusted the word of a bird or not was another story, just this once she needed to listen to such a off the wall request. Sure it could have been a trap and in truth it sort of was, just not for Emily. Not like hell he was going to go about chasing them through the forest when they would have to return to their horses if they expected to cover any amount of ground.
Releasing the creature from the spell it buried itself once more before the remainder of the energy left it's body. now to wait once more. The yelling he had heard in the distance seemed to stop so maybe they had found Emily again. This would not happen a second time, he'd have to keep a eye open for puppets, something he thought he'd never have to deal with again. Twisted beings... he thought to himself to use the freshly made corpse of another. At the least if he summoned something from the grave he made sure it returned and that it's spirit moved on, as much respect as he could muster with such acts. Though he was brought from his thoughts as he started to hear footsteps, they seemed to be heading this way and were getting closer by the minute. If all was well Emily was with them and it was the ones he had been looking for that took her in the first place. He was going to get his answers, but not before he reminded this little magic user that they had messed with the wrong person. He almost felt guilty that he was going to enjoy this, but at the same time it was probably the Queen's forces so he didn't feel any real pity for them. A little longer and the two that had Emily were in view, from the looks of it she was a little scuffed up but that could have happened during her attempt to flee from the two. He wasn't going to give the two of them a chance to notice his presence and get the first move in, oh no not when he wanted answers and Emily was still too close to them for comfort. Extending a hand quickly a faint glow appeared in his palm as the larger of the two seemed to freeze in his tracks with a sudden cracking sound as his grip on Emily's shoulder that was preventing her from running before released in the same instant. She was free to go about how she pleased now and the cracking noise was soon reviled as a bone snapping in the larger of the two captives arm. Though Alton was hardly taking his eyes off the smaller one, the woman he could easily tell she was the one behind the puppets. "I'd advise you to give me answers before you really tick me off... I don't even have to ask them you already know what answers I'm speaking of." He warned her still keeping his hand extended as the faint glow flickered a bit growing larger and pulling in strands of red from the air or so it seemed. Sure she could try to fight him or refuse but something probably could easily tell her he wouldn't think twice on killing either of them seeing as they had just kidnapped Emily and had forced him to chase them all the way out here. Also if she refused to talk in life he could easily do a similar trick she had done and get the answers he sought in her death. |
As she was forced to walk towards the horses they continued to toy with her further, the woman appeared to have quite a bit to say switching one from language to another and speaking fluently. Every so often she would strike Emily with her elbow then force her to stand again, throughout the entire time Emily remained silent as the woman had asked afraid that she may receive something far worse than this if she even cried out in pain. When they finally left the forest Emily became relieved and remained on edge waiting for Alton to appear. When he did not at first she became discouraged and worried that she had been tricked into giving herself to these two. Then something caught her attention, a faint glow that was not too far from them and her heart began to race in her chest. Emily heard the man's bone crack and the cry of pain that came from him as his bone shattered. The man released her immediately and Emily was free once again, it didn't take much motivation for her to run from the two. Soon she was beside Alton but she knew that she could not rest yet, Emily kept a safe distance between her and Alton afraid of what he may do. "Oh no, I've made you angry? I'm sorry for that but I do not believe that I can really tell you anything." She said then threw her shoulders back in a shrug, the woman looked over at her companion who was cringing in pain. "I truly am sorry for this." She said to him, the man looked at her unsure of why she was apologizing. "For what?" He asked then his eyes lowered to her hand and they grew wide. "For what I am about to do, I only hope that you can forgive me one day, Valcon." The woman raised her hand to his neck and a long dagger slid across his neck quickly. He tried to scream but no noise came from his lips and with every breath that he struggled to take he choked on his own blood. The man fell to his knees and she then took her dagger to her other hand drawing her own blood. Then she brought her cut hand to his neck allowing it to soak in his own blood. When the woman spoke it was a language that Emily could not understand but it had become familiar, a faint glow surrounded the woman and suddenly she no longer stood before them. The man fell to the ground, his hands clawing at his neck then his eyes rolled back into his head and he died. Emily stood by Alton horrified by what had happened, who was that woman and who had sent her? |
Sure when she spoke and seemed to refuse to give him the answers he was looking for he knew he should have done something to prevent her from escaping in some form or another. Something also told him if she did manage to get away this was not the last time they would see her. They weren't dressed in the Queen's colors so that answered one question that he had wanted answered at the least. Also seeing as they seemed to be taking Emily somewhere he would guess that someone had hired the two, whoever that was seemed to want to keep Emily alive.
Either way before he could act the woman had already taken her partners life. Without any delay she was gone almost as quickly as she had taken the others life. "Tsk... well seeing as she has sealed your fate already." Alton spoke in regards to the man who was still choking on the few final breaths he had left. Alton never said another word as he muttered a small phrase as he moved his hand towards where the man was laying on the ground. Not long after that he seemed to burst into flame, it consumed the body that was there. There was a reason for this and Alton would be explaining it to Emily. "That woman is trouble.." He muttered walking past where Emily was standing, she still seemed to be a little distant from all of this. "Having to deal with another dark user tsk, like we didn't have enough troubles as it was?" He shook his head a little before answering her question he saw coming. "Burning a corpse prevent it from being usable by a necromancer... though i do know most of my answers just by running into them and the fact that she fled." He shrugged a little before explaining them. "They aren't with the Queen for starters and they were hired by someone." Aside from that he didn't honestly care about the details, Emily was away from them and whoever it was that had hired the woman was probably going to get the failed report from her. They were probably to be targeted again but the same trick wouldn't work a second time. "Now if your ready... getting you to that so called safe town thats further along the path might be a good idea." |
( Ugh so bad. xD ) Emily's eyes grew wide as the man's body was set on fire, she watched for a moment unable to pry her eyes from such a thing then she brought her gaze to Alton. "How are we ever going to get there if we continue to run into troubles along the way?" She asked though she did not expect an answer for that question, it seemed that her own thoughts were being said aloud. "Who would hire such people? What do they want with me and why did that woman kill that man? They seemed close... I did not expect her to do such a thing." She said then her eyes closed, suddenly she realized how exhausted she really was. "Well... I can only guess why they were after me and why they were hired." She muttered quietly to herself then she opened her eyes and watched Alton for a moment. Knowing that they were not with the Queen troubled her greatly, she wondered who had hired the two and what they wished to do with her once they had her in their possession. Emily thought for a moment and then spoke again. "I know that it was a man who hired them, the woman had mentioned a few things to me and I had overheard her conversations with the man. Other than that I haven't a clue who did this... I can only hope that we will not be bothered by this woman for some time." "You're right, we should continue our journey." She said then breathed out a sigh. "We can leave now, I have nothing else to say or do." --------------------- "How could you allow them to escape, Ja'ri?" The woman lowered her head towards the man who stood before her. "My apologies, my Lord, I did not expect her companion to act so quickly and Valcon had allowed her to escape." She adjusted herself to stand straight now. "He was not paying attention to my orders, the woman managed to escape from him and it delayed us. If it had not happened we would have been successful." She said then fell silent, when he did not speak she spoke again. "My Lord?" "Speaking of Volcan, where has he gone? You arrived alone and I have not seen him since you have." Ja'ri froze for a moment and thought of a proper explanation. "In order to escape I had to make a sacrifice, I killed him, My Lord. I was not strong enough to bring us both back, if I had left him there they would have questioned him and I know how weak that man is." She paused for a moment then continued. "I suspect that he was growing weak, perhaps even wanted to free the woman." She lied then smiled. "Very well, you are dismissed." He said then turned his back to her, Ja'ri stood confused by how easily she had been let go. "You will simply have to try again, she can't be allowed to be free for too long, she must be brought here and held captive. She is too fragile to be out in this world... She is our future, our everything, do you understand that?" He asked then looked over at her. "Do not disappoint me again, Ja'ri.. There is only so many times that you can fail me before I can no longer tolerate it." He looked at her awaiting a response. "Yes, My Lord, I understand. I will not disappoint you again, I will retrieve the woman and bring her back for you." She lowered herself again to bow then she turned on her heels and left the room. "Good..." He said quietly to himself then he approached a desk that rested at the end of the room. He removed a key from his pocket and unlocked one of the drawers, after a few moments of searching through it he removed an object that appeared to be an orb. "Find her, show me where she is." He whispered, the orb seemed to chirp and began to glow. Then it fluttered out of his hand and flew out of the window. |
((Not bad, I liked it.))
He hated having to explain a lot of the odd actions done by himself and the woman they had encountered. The burning of the corpse and the reason why she killed her companion in the first place. He was drawing at straws that she wasn't strong enough to transport two people in the manner she had chosen to escape in. That gave him a fair idea as to how strong her powers really were. She'd be a pest if anything if they crossed paths again. Something told him that would be sooner rather then later. But if she were smart she would leave them be knowing that what he had done to her companion and the quick work he had made of her minions were just samples of what he could really do if he so wished. Once they were on the move again he felt a little easier. It was good knowing that they were headed somewhere she would be safe at the least, he wasn't expecting a overly warm welcome for himself, than again why would he. Odds were it was a light elf town if it was marked as safe for Emily. That was all fine with him so long as no one tried anything overly stupid. But aside from his thoughts on the next safe spot out of the Queen's reach he was stuck on who would hire someone to try and kidnap Emily? Sure he had his thoughts that it might be Felix, but at the same time he didn't think that even Felix would stoop that low. He could always be wrong though. For now he just had to keep his eyes open and make sure anyone they crossed paths with he checked to ensure they weren't some puppet trying to lure Emily with her gentle heart. The only downside to all of this was that they still had a good while to go before they came close to the town they were headed towards. Though the upside was it was a larger town so they could at least finally stock up on supplies and maybe finally get away from all of the death and corpses they had been surrounded by out here. "Are you ok?" He had to finally ask seeing as Emily had been rather quiet after they had met up again. He didn't expect her to be pleased with his actions or methods but they needed to be done to ensure they were spared a little trouble later. Maybe he should have left her with the other two, he could have followed them to whoever they were reporting to and then he could have dealt with the issue there. |
There were so many questions left unanswered and despite trying to calm herself she continued to fill her head with nonsense. All that she wished for was to know who had hired those two, she had already assumed why they had been hired to capture her and why someone would desire to have her in their possession. If they were not with the Queen then who could it possibly be? When Alton spoke it startled her causing her to jump a little, looked over at the other unsure of what to say. "I'm as alright as one could be right now, I'm sure that once we can finally rest I will be better." She said then returned her gaze to the road ahead. Once they finally reached their destination she could finally rest, sleep sounded awfully good right now. She had slept so poorly recently and tonight she would get no rest. Though it was not as if she could rest easily with what had happened and knowing the dangers of their journey. It would be hard for her to close her eyes for more than a few minutes even with Alton keeping watch, it was not as if she could not trust him with her life... She was just frightened by all of this and confused. It seemed that they had traveled quite far during the night, Emily was surprised that she had managed to remain stay awake for so long. The sky above was now a variety of colors, light pink, purple and orange, and the sun was beginning to lift itself higher into the sky. Emily reached for one of the bags strapped to the side of her horse, she searched for a moment then brought our the map. Carefully she opened it and noticed that they were only a few hours now away from their destination. "We will be there soon if we continue," she said then began to fold up the map again. "Just three hours... perhaps more than that but it isn't that long." Then she placed the map back into the bag. Before she looked up from her bag she saw a sudden blue light to her left, Emily looked up quickly but as she did there was nothing there. At first she thought that perhaps it was Felix spying on her, though she remembered that she had broken his device and it did not glow blue. "Did you see that?" She asked the other then looked back at him, when she received a puzzled look she shook her head. "Never mind, I am exhausted." ---- "No, she has yet to arrive. Why are you so interested in knowing this?" A woman asked, in front of her an orb floated and as it's master spoke it glowed brighter. "Is that really any of your concern?" The man asked then he sighed. "I simply wish to know if she has arrived safely yet, is it a terrible thing to be concerned for the woman that I love?" She paused for a moment then laughed. "You are so nosy, when will you ever give that poor woman enough space to breath? Leave her be, she can stand on her own feet and is not as naive or stupid as you believe she is." This appeared to strike a nerve in the man. "I know what is the best for her, I know her far better than you know her or will ever know her. Watch yourself, Cambria and show some respect for your King." He hissed and this caused more laughter to escape from the woman. "King? You are not a king, not yet anyways. Leave my home at once you damn fool, I will not allow you to bother me further!" She raised her hand towards the orb and shooed it away. "Be gone before I break this damn thing!" The man cursed at the woman then spoke in foreign language, then the orb fluttered away and left her be. |
It was easy to tell Emily was beyond tired, but there was nothing he could do to remedy this. Nothing short of slipping her a herbal mix or some form of potion to force her to sleep or at least relax. If they didn't make it to this so called town soon he was going to have to force his hand to do just that. If she stayed up for too long she would be useless if they found themselves in any sort of situation. They couldn't afford that, on the same note no rest meant that she could get no training in and there was the chance of her falling ill causing further issues and complications.
But the thought of having to force her to rest at some point or another died as she spoke up saying they had a few mere hours left to get to the next town. That was some of the best news he could have heard all day, surely she would rest there or at least relax. If she was still uneasy about what had happened before he could offer to give her space, they didn't have to rush and leave a town that was large enough to hold its own against the Queen. Besides there was always something he could find to occupy himself with. About the time he was going to speak up saying that they should keep moving then to make the best of their time, Emily seemed to ask if Alton had seen anything. This worried him a little, maybe she was worse off then he thought. She seemed to dismiss it as her being tired as well, so long as she didn't complain about seeing anything for the remainder of their trip he wouldn't fret of this issue. "well... lets get going before you start talking about seeing unicorns eh?" Of course there were unicorns but the odds of them running into any where about as off the wall as her asking if he had seen a light. But the remark he had made was just a joke. She needed rest and they both knew it. Three hours, if all went well they could make it to the town before something bad happened, or before someone found out Emily was out here. Luck indeed did seem to be with them, at least for a little while. They made the last few hours of the journey with no mishaps and without stopping. Getting inside the town seemed to be another story though... indeed it was a larger town and it had a good number of guards posted to protect it's walls and gates. It was also very clear it was a light elf city... This still never bothered Alton at all, so long as Emily was out of harms way he could care less if he ever entered the town. Maybe the other thought he had was he would rather not enter if it meant he was going to be watched around the clock and questioned as to what he was doing. |
Alton received a look when he teased her, Emily shook her head a little then returned her gaze to the trail ahead. It seemed that the rest of their journey to their destination would go undisturbed and eventually they finally made it to the town. She was expecting a grand, large place but was still surprised with what she saw before her. The gate was closed in front of them and quite a few guards stood outside of the walls of the town, Emily could not tell how tall the walls were just by simply looking at them but she knew that they were as not as tall as the castle inside. She could see it in the distance towering over the village below it. Emily lifted herself off of her horse and then taking the reigns in her hand she slowly walked towards the entrance of the town. As soon as they had come into view the guards became alert and their eyes were on her and Alton. Once she stood close enough a guard approached her and questioned what her business here was. "I was told to come here by my fiance," she said and saying that Felix was her fiance left a bad taste in her mouth. "Felix, he told me to speak with Cambria." The guard looked over Emily for a few moments then his eyes wandered over to Alton. "And him?" He asked then looked back at her. "My companion, he has traveled with me all of his way and has kept me out of harm." She said then smiled at the guard. The guard seemed to hesitate at first, perhaps thinking over the information that he had been given then he turned to the others and commanded them to open the gates. "You both may enter, but you will be escorted by some of my men to the castle." He said then stepped away from Emily, the guard wondered over to two other men and told them to escort Emily and another two guards wondered over to them to take their horses. Once the horses were taken Emily thanked the men and then turned to Alton. "Looks like we have finally made it." She said relieved that she could finally get some rest, then she followed the two guards inside. Inside the town Emily suddenly felt a weight being lifted off of her shoulders. Behind her and Alton the gate closed and as they made their way towards the castle they drew the attention of many people. Emily tried to avoid making eye contact with anyone but every so often she looked up out of curiosity. During their walk she saw a variety of different races and it made her even more curios. Light Elves and what she believed to be High Elves, there were even a minority of humans here. Finally they came to another gate and a great wall that surrounded the castle. When it was opened they stepped into a massive front yard, then ahead was a staircase that lead up to the castle. Along the way were many trees, bushes, fountains, even small homes perhaps built for the guards and their family. Emily noticed a small ponds with bridges built across them and a variety of other things that made this seem like paradise. When they approached the staircase Emily paused for a moment to look up in surprise. It did look rather massive from afar but up close she realized just how long and tedious it really was. When one of the two guards looked up at her questioning why she had stopped she pushed herself to continue, about half way up the stairs was a flat surface and as Emily tried to make it up the other set of stairs she collapsed. She fell forward against the stairs and used her hands to stop herself from falling face first against them. One of the two guards rushed to her side and Emily refused his hand. "I'm fine," she said then stood up straight by herself, Emily knew that she was being a bit stubborn but insisted that she could walk the rest of the way. It wasn't until now she realized just how thirsty, hungry and exhausted she was. She told the guard that she could make it but even when she said that she was unsure. |
Even as Emily explained to the guards that Alton was her traveling companion through all of this he had to admit he was a little shocked they took her word for it. Though there could have been a number of reasons they did so. Still he thought it was foolish seeing as the Queen had ways to make people say and do as she wished and also had control of some of the most powerful spell casters in the realm. A mind control spell was hardly complex to cast.
Even though they were being let in the gate and it was just a few guards escorting them, he had to admit he felt uneasy being here. The mix of races hardly eased his thoughts any. If anything it made them worse. If Emily was staying here for a few days or so to recover herself he was not. Being nearby sue, but to stay in the protected walls was asking for trouble, at least for him. Emily might have been avoiding others that were looking at them, but Alton wasn't. Just glancing at the small crowd he could tell the thoughts that crossed quite a few of their minds. Nothing that he could really blame them for thinking. Dark elves were hardly welcome anywhere thanks to the Queen, of course there were other reasons as well but the Queen and her forces didn't help matters any. It was probably a matter of time before something went wrong or he ended up being accused of some act that he didn't commit. Even the guards seemed to keep a watchful eye on the both of them as they walked, not that mere guards worried him... they could be dealt with if they attempted something so bold. But as they walked he kept any of his thoughts and worries hidden and to himself as he always did, no point in making Emily question why he seemed to be bothered being within the city gates. Though it was a similar ill feeling to the one he had back at Felix's... even if he thought staying within the walls was a good idea he wasn't sure he could stand it that long. He needed to find out what was causing these spells where he felt almost weak being near certain areas.. it would not do well to find himself in such a area and be forced to fight. This thought was disrupted as Emily seemed to fall forward. She caught herself and went about her normal way of being stubborn as she rejected any help to stand once more. "Keep this up your going to confuse the hands among the grounds." She seemed to question what he was speaking about, but he shook his head a little at her questioning look. She'd understand if they kept going to castles along this trip, maids and guards alike were use to jumping at a pins drop if a royal member needed help or wanted something. Though he did speak in a bit of a riddle this time around and with her overly tired state it surely didn't help. But he was doing anything to keep his mind off of his own current state that was growing worse each passing moment they were in the city walls. He needed to make sure she got to whoever ran this place and then he would be about getting out of the city, if he was lucky before his powers started to fade worse then they already were on him. |
Alton's words confused her though she tried to figure out what he was trying to say, being as tired as she was currently she shortly gave up and decided that later she would question what he had said. When they finally reached the grand entrance of he castle Emily felt herself growing weaker by the second, she would have to rest soon but she knew very well that would not happen. Someone would wish to greet her and speak with her and she would certainly feel rude if she interrupted them or asked to rest before they spoke. As the doors opened Emily saw a woman standing withing the castle, her appearance was nothing but unusual. She wore a long, form-fitting, white lace dress that's train was as long as she was tall. Her hair was long and put up into a messy bun, the color of her hair was a dark teal and her eyes were a dark gold color. The woman bowed towards Emily as she approached then stood straight and smiled brightly. "Welcome to my home, I have been waiting for you." She said then her eyes examined Emily for a brief moment. "You have grown so much since I have last laid my eyes on you, you have become such a beautiful, young woman!" Emily smiled and stood awkwardly in front of her, it was hard to think of anything to say when she did not remember this woman at all. "Oh, excuse me for forgetting to introduce myself. My name is Cambria, you may not remember me but I knew you and your parents very well." "Now, you look like you could use some rest." Emily seemed to become more attentive when she heard that. "I can only imagine how exhausting the journey here must have been, would you like me to show you to a room?" She asked then her eyes left Emily and went to Alton. "Would you join us as well? I have a room prepared for both of you." She said then smiled at him, she knew that it must be odd for a human to speak so kindly to a Dark Elf. "You will be safe here, my people are kind... just not used to your kind and a little afraid due to the recent incidents." She said trying to assure Alton that he was welcome here. "You two are more than welcome to remain here for a few days, longer if you need it." |
He knew Emily was pushing herself to keep going, but she needed rest and the sooner the better. He wasn't sure if she had gotten any sleep at all for the past few days. That was normal for him to go without sleep but she needed it. As they seemed to reach their final destination of walking, at least for the moment... he had to admit he was glad off it. The longer he watched Emily the more he thought she would just fall over where she stood. Even just standing there she could still fall over from the looks of it but at least now it wouldn't be on stairs.
As the woman greeted them and introduced herself it clicked in why he knew of this place or it seemed familiar. When he was working for the Queen she often spoke of the places that held thorns in her side. The few places that remained strong and able to keep their freedom from her.Emily would be safe enough here, even if he took a short leave of her side to try and figure out what was causing his sudden bursts of illness in certain areas they had been to. For now he merely listened to the woman talk to Emily and speak that they were both welcome. Sure it was nice to hear, but he wasn't sure she knew her people as well as she thought. Some of the looks when they were walking all this way spoke very clearly that there were a handful bold enough to try and seek out revenge for whatever lost loved ones that had suffered at the hands of the Queen's troops. Emily seemed to agree to a few days at least, though seeing as she was nearly about to pass out it was no wonder she agreed almost too quickly. He bowed slightly towards the woman who was trying to be as nice as she could to the both of them. "Sorry but i must decline your offer, I have a few personal matters that I need to attend to." He paused a moment before noticing the glance Emily had given him she seemed like she was torn if she should protest to him pretty much saying he wasn't staying here. It wasn't due to safety or anything of the sort, even weakened he was pretty confident that he could handle himself. He wanted to tell Emily to just relax and get some rest finally, but it seemed out of place to talk to her so. She was royalty after all and he wasn't about to test his luck even in this place... no matter how nice the ruler seemed to be. Before Emily could protest it he went about taking his leave from her. He needed to do so and soon, using his powers against the ones who had kidnapped her didn't help matters now. He needed to stop pulling off such foolish stunts before it killed him. If she needed him he was pretty sure she could find him or get a guard to go and seek him out. H had trained her a little so he was sure she could find him if she truly wanted to. |
Emily was not surprised that Alton declined the offer that was given to him, though of course she had hoped that he would accept it. "I will find you later then." She said then smiled at him, there was no point in asking him to remain here. It wasn't as if she could control him or force him to spend time within the castle and she trusted Alton not to go too far or to leave her here. When Alton left Emily brought her attention back to the woman who had greeted her and Alton. Cambria smiled at her then extended a hand towards her. "I shall show you to your room, I think that you will like it." Cambria was right, Emily did like her room. It was decorated with a variety of paintings, sculptures and there was even a suit of armor that stood by her door. The room had windows that stretched from the bottom of the floor to the ceiling bringing in plenty of light. The ceilings were high and the furniture was made from the finest wood, the bed had to be her favorite part of the room. Simply because she had spent so long away from such comfort! Her body sunk into it and when she climbed underneath the covers she wished that she would never have to leave. A door stood in the room that lead to her own personal bathroom, before climbing into bed she had bathed. Emily had forgotten what it felt like to be so clean, scrubbing her body and her hair felt incredibly soothing and relaxing. If she had remained in the tub for much longer she may have even dozed off, but she was quick to bath and eager to sleep now that she finally could. It didn't take long for her to fall asleep and once she finally was she knew that she wouldn't wake up for a while. |
One of the guards followed Alton, probably just for good measure. Not like the guard would pose any real challenge but odds were most here didn't know that Alton was a wizard. Sure it could be assumed seeing as he had no real weapons with him, but that didn't always mean the person was a magic user. Either way he let the guard amuse himself and follow him out of the city walls for a short distance. Even passing back through the city he was met with the same cold and hateful looks that he saw in every town. Ones he had learned to ignore.
After a while the guard took his leave of Alton and left him to whatever personal matters he had said he wanted to attend to. Not too soon at that as Alton let out a heavy sigh before pulling one sleeve up and looking at his arm. For the moment it almost looked as if he had some form of toxin in his blood as his skin along his arm seemed a odd color compared to the rest of his body. "not good.." he muttered before letting the sleeve drop back down as he opened the tome he had with him still. This wasn't a good sign, it was like a poison but it was a type that only affected the undead. It was a spell or rather a protection to defend against dark magics. That explained a lot the longer he thought about it. Surely this place had such spells in place in the event they were faced with fighting undead of dark minions. Shaking his head a little he felt almost foolish he had stayed within the walls that long. But it should heal after a night or two, until then he had to avoid using magic at all costs to prevent it from spreading until it was healed. His thoughts however were disrupted by a faint glow that appeared near him and seemed to shimmer a few times making a soft whimsical sound. He seemed to ignore the odd glow and noise as he turned his head away from it. He knew what it was but he wished that it would go away. He didn't need or want reminders that he had failed in his past to protect those he had sworn his life to. But every once in a while the underworld seemed to like to torment him and let one of his past failures try and contact him... if he bothered to listen was another story. |
( Sorry lame! xD ) It was early in the morning when Emily finally woke up, she turned over onto her stomach and let out a soft groan of annoyance. She had wished to sleep for longer but she had grown use to waking early in the morning and sleeping late at night. A yawn escaped from her as she stretched out across the bed then she slowly lifted herself from its comfort. Even if she buried herself back under the covers she knew that she would not be able to return to sleep, the floor was cold as she stood causing goosebumps to break out across the surface of her skin. The entire room was cold, being so warm where she had lived she had forgotten how much colder it was out here. Emily brought herself to a bag that she had brought with her, then began to search through it for some clean clothes. She pulled out from it a long sleeve white blouse and a pair of black trousers, once dressed she slipped her feet into her boots and decided that she was ready to speak with Cambria. However something caused her to hesitate, a sudden noise from just outside of the hall. Emily looked over at the door and after listening for a few moments she finally heard it again, it sounded as if an animal was scratching at the door trying to get inside. She froze where she stood unsure of what to do, but eventually curiosity got the better of her and she slowly approached the door. "Is someone there?" She asked but there was no reply from the other side, Emily took hold of the handle and slowly opened the door. It took a moment for her to realize what stood before her, it was certainly an animal but not one that she was familiar with and she became afraid. "Ah!" Escaped from her then she took a step back unsure of what to do. It was a snow leopard, an adult considering it's size, it's fur was a light grey and black freckles covered its body and it looked up at Emily with bright blue eyes. The creature's tail flicked back and forth then it lowered it's head, Emily's eyes grew wide when she realized that it was preparing to pounce but before she could shut the door the beast was on top of her. She hit the floor with a loud thud and she could hear footsteps approaching the room quickly, Emily was ready to scream as the beast brought it's face close to her own. Though she held it back as it began to nuzzle her lovingly, when it began to purr she felt relieved however she raised her hands pushing it's face away when it began to lick her. "Lady Emily are you alright?" A guard now stood in the doorway, then another stood beside him. "I think that she will be just fine," a woman said and when she pushed the guards to the side and entered the room Emily saw that it was Cambria. "Off," she said then pointed at the animal. "You get off of her right now, Talos!" Talos' ears went back and a soft whimper came from him, then he obeyed her command and got off of Emily. "I think that he picked up your scent when he came back this morning, he's just excited that you have returned." Cambria noticed the look that Emily was giving her and smiled. "Your mother found him when he was little, but could not keep him so.." She laughed a little then shook her head. "I kept him and when she would visit and bring you along you two would play. He was more of your pet really..." She said then she approached Emily, she held out her hand and helped her up. "Speaking of your mother, would you like to visit her?" Emily looked up at her surprised by such a question. "And your father too, they were.. They were buried just outside of the walls of the town in the cemetery. I understand if you don't wish to, I hope that I am not being insensitive." Emily thought for a moment, she had never expected to be given such an opportunity. "Of course," she finally said then brought her eyes to Cambria. "Of course I would like to visit them, would you bring me?" Cambria nodded a little then looked over at Talos, he appeared to be anxiously holding himself back from mauling Emily with affection. "Come with me then!" She said then she left the room, Emily followed and as she passed the beast he sniffed her hand. "You come, too!" Cambria yelled and the animal stood immediately, behind Emily he trotted happily. |
((Nah it was good I thought!))
Sleep didn't come in any form that night, not that he expected it to with a burning sensation running through his arm as it was. Probably for the best, it did give him time to plan out what to work on next with Emily. She still had a ways to go to master her powers and he knew this. Even if she didn't master then she still needed enough control to use them at her will. This would be a task easier said then done, and now with a impending deadline that seemed to be creeping up on him faster then he first thought it didn't help matters any. The only thing he was thankful of was that the woman who seemed to rule the castle here didn't seem to know who he was. Surely she'd have a similar if not worse reaction then what Felix had if she knew that he was one of the ones who had been ordered to take Emily in the first place all those years ago. Letting out a bit of a heavy sigh he went back to looking for something in the old tome that he kept with him. What he was looking for was something that no one else was allowed to know. After a while he gave in and summoned forth a crow from the underworld as he sat there with it perked on his arm. "you need to seek out someone for me... a alchemy master." He didn't need to say anything more to the bird as it seemed to understand before the beast gave Alton a nod and flew off. He had his reasons for seeking out this master he spoke of. But he needed to keep this little errand to himself. Emily had plenty to worry about without adding to it. |
Outside the cold greeted her and with every breath that she took she could see it. Emily stood just outside of the castle near the door, beside her Talos sat patiently with his tail flicking back and forth. Emily looked over her shoulder as she heard the doors close, Cambria came out dressed in more appropriate attire for the weather. In her hands she held a coat and she held her hands out towards Emily. "Here," she said then smiled. "You will need this, it will only get colder." "Thank you." Emily took the coat from her then put it on. It was a snug fit and she could already feel warmer, she buttoned the front of it then lifted the hood up. "Well if you are ready then we shall be off!" Cambria said, when Emily nodded she began to make her way down the stairs, Emily followed and Talos remained beside her. The cemetery was a twenty minute walk from the town and it was surrounded by it's own wall. As they walked Cambria explained that it was to keep grave robbers from entering it late at night and that it was better to have a wall to protect their buried. As Cambria approached the gate of the cemetery the guards that stood outside of it brought their attention to them. "We are here to visit, will you allow us entry?" She asked and she had to say no more, the guards opened the gate for them to enter. When she stepped inside Emily suddenly became anxious, she had seen so much death recently and now being surrounded by the dead terrified her. Knowing that someone could bring them back to life, control them, she only hoped that no one could ever gain entry to this place. With her little knowledge she did not know that spells could be cast to prevent such a thing from occurring. They walked in silence then stopped in front of two graves, Cambria bent down bringing her hand to them to brush away snow. "Here," she said then stood up straight. "Do you wish to be alone? I know that... You never were able to grieve." She looked at Emily waiting for an answer. "Yes, please..." Emily said then she brought herself to crouch in front of the graves. Cambria hesitated to leave her for a moment then she looked over at Talos and commanded him to follow her, then they left Emily alone. "How could I forget you two?" She muttered quietly to herself, then she brought herself to her knees and rested her hand against her mother's grave. "How could I forget all of this? How can I still not remember so much? What is wrong with me?" Cambria was right, she had never had time to grieve. Even when she had remembered bits and pieces of her past she had never had time to grieve except for this very moment, she had only cried perhaps a few times but it was always briefly. Right now she felt incredibly weak and she could not help but begin to cry and soon she was sobbing to herself. After some time Emily leaned back away from the grave then brought her hands to her face. It was as if she could no longer cry, her face felt terrible sore and she took a deep breath. "Damn..." She said under her breath and all she could do was stare helplessly at their graves. |
((If you don't like my idea I posted in the message just tell me and I can edit this post.))
Alton knew the bird would not return for at least a few days. The one he had told it to go seek out was very good at keeping his whereabouts hidden. this was not always a good thing, but it did mean that this master of elixirs was probably safe from the Queen. Or rather if Alton had any luck in delaying this curse from killing him too soon then this person he sought was still somewhere safe. The bird knew what message Alton needed to pass onto the person and what it was expected to bring back as well. If Alton had known Emily's parents were here in the graveyard he would have gone with her. Not really as support but to prevent anyone from taking advantage of the poor girl in her weaker moments. He knew she was going through a lot and there was a number of things she still didn't remember. Felix hardly helped matters with forcing her to remember a few things from her past that she should have recalled over time. ~~~~~~~~~~ A faint mist rolled around Emily's feet as she seemed to pay it no mind. The guards didn't notice the white mist rolling over the cool ground. But everything in the area was silent so suddenly... if Emily wasn't in such a state she might have noticed the strange aura about the area. The smell of death began to rise and drift throughout the graveyard. The aura surrounding this mist and sudden change in the area was one Alton was familiar with. He had planned to stay to himself to prevent Emily from becoming concerned about why he couldn't use his arm or why he seemed to be in more pain then before. But this was not at all possible now as he stood suddenly as his ears dropped at the aura that presented itself out of the blue. This was not good at all, this was the last aura he wanted to feel in this area. Even with protection and barriers there was no preventing certain magics... Emily was in danger and he knew this. The last fee run ins they had were not the Queen's men. But this pawn would be one. It would be one he did not wish to deal with at the present time in this condition. It was a huge risk, but to leave Emily on her own he feared that she would not be well enough protected where ever she was. |
( So bad, I'm sorry. xD ) Cambria could feel the sudden change, an aura that she did not welcome in these parts. Though she hesitated to alert Emily to this presence, instead she turned to the guards that she now stood beside and informed them. One guard left immediately to seek more aid, Cambria was unsure of how this encounter would end and she wondered if it would be in her favor. Emily would be protected here and no harm would come to the young woman for as long as she breathed. She would have to do what she could to keep her safe even if he meant causing the death of another. Emily rose from her parents' graves when she cold no longer cry anymore. As she did she could suddenly feel a change, inside she felt that something was now terribly wrong but she could was unsure of what exactly it was. It was something that she had felt before, though with little training she had yet to figure out quite a few things about herself. She looked around cautiously, then finally began to make her way back to gates. Though before she could a sudden noise caught her attention, Emily looked around searching for the source of the noise and when she found it she screamed. A figure was slowly crawling out from it's grave, it's fingers clawed at the surface trying to free itself as quickly as it could from it's prison. Emily watched in horror, unaware that it was not the only one that had risen from the dead. |
((But I liked it! I'm so mean though you set it up almost perfectly for what I wanted to do. Also maybe I should stop trying to kill my character, Emily might find out sooner rather than later what Alton keeps having to take care of.))
If odds were in his favor then the wizard behind this sudden change in the surrounding area would not be near by. He knew very well he was in no condition to fight him if it came down to such a thing, a pawn or puppet would be hard enough to deal with. Let alone he had to keep acting like nothing was wrong even though his condition was worsening the closer he got to the town once more. Emily was not allowed to know, after she had completed her quest then she could know, but until then he needed to keep her in the dark about why he kept disappearing. Though his mind was on more pressing matters at the moment, he knew all too well of the power the wizard had. He had to get to Emily before things were too late, killing her wouldn't be his objective but possessing her was another story... If done correctly he could leave her body and soul intact but she would be controlled by who ever had cast the spell. The undead puppets were low grade spells compared to this one, also known as the spell of the living doll. One among many spells that were suppose to be banished from this world, this can only be done once all who knew of the spells were killed. The one body that was clawing its way through the ground to get to Emily kept her distracted long enough for the few others that had already freed themselves from their earthen tombs could surround her. The girl was already in a state of distress from her parents graves, she was in no condition to fight nor control her powers at the present time. Soon she was cornered in the graveyard, none of them dared to touch her. Oh no the master of these abominations had other plans first as one began to speak in a sort of broken tongue, a dry voice cracking and struggling to produce the words it was told to. "Dear princess.. my mistress will be very happy to see you are ...." the animated corpse seemed to chuckle a little before going on with it's relaying of the message. "in one piece, at least for now." With that being said a hand extended forward mere inches from where Emily was cringing away from the creatures touch. Though it did not have to touch her to start performing the spell that was being cast through it's body as a dark black light seemed to flow from it's palm and towards Emily before breaking apart into several smaller strains. The only luck she had was that the spell would require a great amount of time to complete... Nearly running into the guard Cambria had sent off to fetch more aid was all that it took to let Alton know aid would not make it on time. He never breathed a word of what he knew to the guard as the man ran off to do as he was told. Though he would have to get past Cambria with a spell to counter the aura in the area. This should be easy if the woman really did trust Emily and who the girl trusted. But he wasn't going to count on it being just that easy, nor did he have the luxury of time to explain what was going on. Within a few moments he saw the woman from before standing a little ways off from the graveyard, he should have known that this foe would strike in such a place, necromancers had more power around the dead so it only made sense. Though the closer he got towards the gate the more on edge Cambria seemed to get, Alton held a similar aura to the one already infesting the area when he wasn't holding it back so it was natural for her to think he could be behind this. The guard that had stayed behind and the woman seemed ready to stand in the way of Alton as he warned them both to back down. Each second he stood there waiting for the other side to make a move he felt the spell and it's energy trying to force its way into Emily's mind, to entangle itself there. Finally he gave up on waiting for them to trust him as he forced both the guard and Cambria to the wall as a vine quickly bound the two of them there. A dark plant that was lined with thorns as well as a few unopened purple blossoms that snaked their way along the vines length. The blossoms wouldn't need to open, it wouldn't take him that long, even if the two broke free Emily would be safe enough by then. Emily was still in the corner of the graveyard when Alton was finally in range of her and the small army of risen undeads around her. The spell he had been focused on was finally unleashed as he hissed out a few words in his native tongue. It felt like a blast wave at first, but quickly seemed to break whatever hold was forcing the dead to walk again as the corpses quickly fell to the ground motionless once more. That one blast alone was almost enough to wipe whatever energy he had reserved for today from him. But he needed to make sure that Emily was at least out of harms way. One of the bodies seemed to stay standing as it mocked Alton and his pitiful spell. Once more it spoke in it's broken tone. "The Queen did speak of a lost dog, never once did I dream it would be you.." It seemed to go on for a moment before speaking again "You've grown weaker since we last crossed paths... you'd do well to remember place." It seemed to be almost a riddle as it spoke, shortly after breaking apart just like the rest and falling to the ground as a black puff of smoke was released from it and drifted upwards before vanishing into the air. Even with the little warning from the other Alton knew he was right, he was getting weaker. Sure he could protect Emily but he knew very well if he had to fight the Queen's top men he would lose. But thats why he was training Emily, she could win and return the realm back to the way it was. Even with the aura slowly leaving the grounds and the air returning to being silent once more he seemed to keep this guard up, not that he could cast another spell like the last one but he could still do a few other tricks. Around that same time he released the poor guard and Cambria from their binds. They could do as they wished now, but either way Emily was safe and the spell hadn't managed to bury itself into her mind. Next time though... they might not be as lucky. ((I'm sorry that was long!)) |
( lollol Cambria being a bitch. And bad post. o Ao ) When Cambria was finally released immediately she ran into the cemetery, not only was she upset with what had just happened to Emily but she was upset with Alton's disobedience. She had not wanted him to venture into the cemetery, she could feel a similar aura from him and did not like that one bit. Behind her the guard followed and when Cambria finally stood before the other two she begin to yell. "How dare you," she hissed at Alton. "I knew that there was something wrong with you, I can even feel it now! A cursed man guiding the Princess, what was Felix thinking? How could he trust you?" She spoke so quickly that neither Emily or Alton could get a word out. "Everything would have been fine but you had to interfere, everything would have been under control-" "I would not be here if he had not acted," Cambria brought her gaze to Emily who now spoke, she had not expected Emily to speak. "I have not trained hard enough to grasp everything but I could feel myself losing control of myself, I could feel something else trying to pry it's way into my mind and my body. The castle is too far of a walk, even a run, it would have been too late." When Cambria tried to speak Emily raised her hand to keep her quiet. "Do you think that every cursed man is not to be trusted? Who are you to judge someone based on that? If Alton meant to betray me he would have done so long ago, why would he even train me and want me to grow and learn?" Emily paused for a moment and breathed out a sigh. "He will not betray me, perhaps you do not believe that and perhaps you are suspicious of him but I am not and I have more faith in him than I have had faith in anyone else for this entire journey." Emily could see the way that Cambria was now watching Alton and it was making her uncomfortable. "If he is now not welcome here then neither am I and I do not wish to remain here for any longer." She said then she looked up at Alton and smiled weakly. "We may leave if you wish to and find elsewhere to rest." "My Princess, forgive me! I did not mean to upset you, you two are more than welcome to remain here. You can not leave, you have just arrived and there is so much that you must learn." Though her words tempted Emily to remain for longer she knew that she could not, the behavior of Cambria concerned her and she no longer felt safe here. "Forgive me, I must decline your offer to remain here." Then Emily bowed her head and walked past Cambria and her guard, it took quite a bit of courage to persist with her plan of leaving and she refused to look back as she left the cemetery. After leaving the cemetery Emily returned to the castle to collect her belongings and once she was finally finished packing she made her way out of the castle. At the front entrance she was greeted by Cambria though she was reluctant to speak to her she allowed her to speak. Two horses had been prepared for her and Alton, the horses were well equipped with whatever they would need for their journey. Warmer clothing, food, water, equipment for them to set up a small rest stop and a few other things as well. The horses were much larger, built and had longer hair so they were better to travel with through harsh, cold weather. Emily thanked Cambria for all that she had given her and then after saying their goodbyes she made her way towards the stables to retrieve the horses. |
((Good post, silly.))
Truth of it all was he expected such a reaction from Cambria. He was rather shocked she didn't just order the guards to throw him in jail or to have his head on a pike as soon as possible. He couldn't blame her for not liking him, it was something he was use to by now. Even through all of her fussing and complaints about how a cursed man was leading the princess and that he was not to be trusted, he still never bothered to say a word. The only thought was that he wasn't leading the princess, she was leading herself. He was just making sure she got to where she wanted to go. Not too long after Cambria started her rant did Emily put a stop to it. The girl even though she was still adjusting to everything around her and had been raised in a small village showed she had the potential to be the true ruler of these lands in a small shimmer as she spoke to Cambria. To admit Alton had worried the girl wasn't ready or wouldn't be by the time they got to their journeys end, but this proved him otherwise. She might not be ready at the moment, but she would be when the time came. Even when Emily spoke he kept his words to himself, he couldn't afford to talk at the present time. He needed to reserve his strength to recover from using such a spell so carelessly. He knew better, but he couldn't wait and risk Emily's life. At the same time he couldn't let the girl know he had pushed himself when he should have been resting. Over the last few days he had been forced to use more magic than he had, it was slowly taking it toll but the more he used it the more damage it was going to do. If he didn't watch it then Emily was going to figure out he was in worse shape then what he was letting on. After leaving the cemetery behind he let Emily go about whatever business she had at the castle. He said he was going to finish his business from earlier. Though really it was that he couldn't get near the castle, the curse made things complicated at times. Sure Emily might know who he was and that he had a curse, but she wasn't allowed to find out what type of curse it was... He just had to push himself long enough to let Emily finish her quest. He waited for Emily just outside of the town, he knew she was going to get horses. He wasn't really expecting to get ones suited for the weather here, let alone fully equipped with supplies they would need. He probably should have expected some sort of gesture, seeing as Emily was the princess and if all went well soon to be ruler. Something bothered him though in his thoughts. Cambria spoke of Felix, he had a feeling that they had not seen the last of that man. Once Emily seemed to show up with the horses he questioned her on where they were headed next. Last he knew this was the last town for a good while. There was nothing but harsher weather and mountain trails that were ahead of them. At the same time it meant they were drawing closer to the end of their travels as well. She needed to be trained and maybe the harsher weather would aid in such training. It would make finding life for her power to work with harder. |
"I'm unsure," she said when she was questioned about their next destination. "The path is full of many towns, villages and another castle but that is the farthest from us. I have no clue which ones are safe or unsafe, I guess we will just have to test our luck like we have been since the beginning." Emily breathed out a sigh then looked over at Alton from the map. "You will have the judge if where we stop is alright or not, I'm not yet capable of really feeling anything... At least not as much as you do." Saying that made a question pop into her head. "When will we ever be able to train again?" She asked then smiled at the other. "I know that it may not be for a while but I really want to further my knowledge." Before she could really get much of an answer the sound of sudden footprints caught her attention. Emily begun to fold up her map as she turned to see who was approaching, when she saw she smiled then crouched. Talos hopped over to her happy and when Emily reached out her hand to him he nuzzled her hand affectionately. "What are you doing out here?" She asked and a soft purr begun in Talos' throat, then he moved closer to her pressing his face against her neck. "I believe that he wants to travel with you," Emily looked up from the snow leopard to see Cambria not standing too far from them. "He was anxious once you left and kept whining at the doors. When I let him out he ran off and I followed him here, I should have known better." She laughed a little and for a moment her eyes went to Alton before returning to Emily. "You can take him, if you would like to. He doesn't do much here or receive much attention and he has missed you dearly." Emily ran her hands along the beast's back as she thought for a moment then she had a reply. "I suppose it would not hurt to bring him along, as long as he keeps himself out of trouble." The beast seemed to know that she was allowing him to travel with her, his tail begun to wag from side to side happily. "Very well, I will allow you two to go off now without any further delay, please do not be afraid to seek help from me and my people. I will always be an ally as I was for your parents." Cambria waited for a moment as Emily said thank you, then she turned on her heels and begun to head back to the castle. Talos purred as Emily continued to stroke his hair. She looked up at Alton with perhaps the most genuine smile since the beginning of this journey. "Isn't he cute?" She asked though she wasn't really seeking an answer for that. Then she removed her hands from the creature and finally stood. "Well, I have nothing left to hold me back from leaving. Let us be off!" |
She'd be able to read people far better than anyone once she had control of her powers. Though she did have a ways to go for that. At the least to train her it didn't require him to do any magic, just to talk her through what she needed to do. Though magic was needed if she let herself get carried away like what happened last time. "My plan was to do some training here, but it seems that will not be the case." He never planned on having to deal with pawns of the Queen's lap dogs, or the temperament of the woman that was suppose to be one of Emily's allies. "Next stop or area that we set camp up in we'll work on some of your skills. The weather in these parts prevents -" He seemed to stop when they heard footsteps coming closer to them, he wasn't sure he trusted this so called safe area. Though they had not given him reason not to and he was sure that the woman who ruled here knew as much as Felix did about the girl.
He never said a word with the purring giant cat that seemed to favor Emily. Though he quickly noticed Cambria was not too far behind the creature. Something told him that he wasn't getting away from this place without picking up a extra traveling companion... not that it was all a bad thing, the snow leopards were good hunters and this was their natural habitat. It might prove to be useful in Emily's training as well if the beast was willing to work with him a little in order to help Emily. But such thoughts he kept to himself for now, till they were clear of this place anyway. It was easy to tell Cambria was still not fond of the idea of Emily traveling with a cursed companion, let alone a drow. "Cute... a beast thats known for hunting down some of the largest prey in these parts." He shrugged a little. "Whatever you wish to call cute I suppose." Though he did agree with her that it was well overdue to leave this place behind, at least for now. Maybe if they well rather she returned here the welcome would be a better one. "If we're following the roads I suggest we take the longer route, it has more cover and will take us past a town that I know if outside of the Queen's grasp." Also it would take them a few days just to get to that town and it was closer then any of the others. Sleeping out in this weather would be harsh to say the least unless they got lucky with caves or some other form of cover, tents weren't the best in the cold regions like this, the snow and ice could rip them apart easily. There was a bit of minor details about the said town he forgot to mention. One being the race that lived there, or rather rumored to live there. Also that it was the more dangerous route of the two, but he had hopes that the trail would allow them to stay clear of the Queen's men. Even if it forced them into other dangers, he was sure they could handle whatever came their way. But the longer the Queen had no idea where Emily was the better. |
"I would enjoy taking some time to train, we have not had the luxury of time to do such a thing for a while." It was true, they had been struggling to push some training into their schedule with all of the events that had been taking place so suddenly. It worried Emily when she thought about it, to know that they were so close to the end of their journey yet she was so unprepared to face whatever waited for her. The beast that stood before her breathed out a heavy purr as her hands tended to it's face lovingly. "Well at least he will help us, perhaps he will be able to capture us something to eat along the way." Emily ran her fingers along Talos' once more before bringing herself away from him. She brought herself beside her horse then mounted it with ease, once settled upon the beast she looked over at Alton and managed another smile. "That sounds like a good idea, I would rather avoid any more trouble especially knowing that the weather isn't going to be so kind to us." Though the difficult weather meant that it would be more trouble to press on she also knew that that meant the Queen's mean would also find difficulty while trying to follow herself and Alton. That gave her a little bit more of hope that hey could finish this journey in peace. With her hands she took hold of her horse's reigns then tugged on them lightly, the beast snorted once before beginning to walk and beside her followed Talos. "Let's hope that the weather won't be a bother, at least not much of one. Maybe then we could get in some light training." |
"Maybe..." It was easy to tell he wasn't crazy about the idea of the 'cat' coming along with them. Though he didn't trust a lot of living things to be honest. Not with how they could be turned against someone with simple will commands and spells. But he kept further thoughts to himself getting on the other horse and catching up to Emily's stride.
"The harsh weather almost could be called a blessing, sooner or later we'll get ahead of the storm and the forces trying to give chase will be stuck in it still." He smirked a little liking that fact. It would delay the Queen's men and that was exactly what they needed. It helped that currently their whereabouts were unknown or at least he hoped they were to the Queen's eye. Out here it was hard if not impossible to place tracking spells. The weather destroyed a lot of spells let alone provided blind spots. Emily kept to following the map to make sure they didn't get lost. That was the last thing they needed was to be lost out here in what seemed to be a light blizzard. Though after traveling for most of the day the storm seemed to give them a break, a breather almost as it stopped hounding on them and the wind seemed to calm. The harsh weather never seemed to bother Alton but his home had laid in the more northern lands, not as much snow as these areas but still rather harsh and biting winds. But also there was the fact he knew his time was becoming more than short. Each day he felt what life he was clinging to dwindle. The more energy he wasted in magic the faster this decay would happen. But at the same time he had to train her. Emily had to be prepared and he knew he wouldn't be able to aid her much in her final battle. "We should stop here while the gods are giving us the blessing of a clear sky." He spoke getting the horse to stop as he waited to see what Emily would do. "While the weather is calm we should also get to work on training you some more... though your powers will require quite a bit more energy here with the life force of most living things being buried in snow or frozen from the sparks of the sun." |
Emily lightly tugged on the reigns causing her horse to slow his pace, the beast snorted as he came to a full stop and she looked over at Alton bringing her full attention to him. Emily listened to his words and for a moment thought over his offer to delay their journey to train, her head bobbed up and down in a nod before she carefully lifted herself from her horse and lowered herself to the ground. It had been so long since she had last trained and Emily felt slightly anxious, she was afraid of making a fool of herself or worse hurting either herself or even another. Now off of her horse she felt something brush affectionately against her thigh. Talos exhaled a soft purr as he nuzzled into her warmth, his bright eyes looked up at her expectantly. Emily leaned down bringing her hand over the massive cat's features, tickling under his chin, the sides of his face and of course behind his ears. A satisfied purr came from the beast and when Emily finally brought her hand away from his soft features he no longer begged for her affection. Instead he sat down beside her, his tail slowly flicking back and forth, Emily patted him on his head once more before stepping away. "What should we do? I'll follow your orders." She said to Alton. |
"Orders? Hardly... " He said dismounting his own horse as the creature snorted before pawing at the cold ground. "Though it might be a bit of a challenge for you to call on your powers here. Aside from the two horses and the cat." He said half pointing to Talos. "There isn't much else that is living around here. From what I have gathered that seems to be the source of your power." He seemed to pause on that thought before he went on. "Though if we train you enough you should be able to make things do your bidding even in the frozen wastelands. It'll just be harder to call forth nature against its will." Wasn't that the truth, to call a tree or something out of its state of slumber might take her some time. He also had plans for the cat if the beast was willing to work with him after Emily got a bit more control in this area.
"Do the same thing as we did before, slow breathing and try to focus on your inner energy and your surroundings. But be mindful of them... nature also includes the snow and I don't particularly want to see what happens if you lose yourself again." Though he spoke in good humor about it, it would still be something he could surely handle or stop before things got out of hand. "Just relax and focus, stop worrying about messing up. Your still learning." He said to her noticing she seemed to be struggling with it as if she feared making a mistake. |
