Eschaton -- OOC & Sign Up
So... by popular request, I am running a roleplay. Note that I have no experience with this sort of roleplaying, so it might take me some getting used to.
Here's the basics: Follow Trisphee's rules, obviously. This'll be private, I'm looking for at most 8 players, but preferably less. It's a post-apocalyptic fantasy based on the Book of Revelation in the Bible, with some sci-fi elements, too. I'll be posting the setting information in the game thread when I get it up and running. This is intended to be serious and intricate. I'd appreciate people only signing up if they're sure they want to play. You can expect a fair bit of action, but hopefully a lot of character interaction as well. I expect posts to be literate and have some thought put into them. Also, let's try to keep in-character here. This is not a nice world; humor should probably be kept at a minimum unless it's a character trait. For your character concepts (and I will post criteria in the following post) we're looking at human survivors of the apocalypse, preferably of middle-of-the-road power, i.e. not a threat to the big guns of the setting, but also not in too much trouble if some raiders show up in a humvee. I've come up with a lot of special equipment to outfit your characters with, so hopefully you can have fun with that. You'll find more as we play. And... I think that about does it for this post. I'll put the character submission format in the next post and the items in the following. I'm not sure if I'll get around to making the RP thread proper tonight, but if not tonight, then tomorrow. |
Setting Information Introduction World Organizations Forces in the World Spiritual Realms Environmental Features Places World Map |
Character Submission Name: Class: Abilities Items: Picture (optional): Physical Description: Background: Classes |
Special Equipment |
Important NPCs (Image-heavy) Creatures (Image-heavy) |
And, I believe that is it, for the moment. I'll have my own character up by tomorrow for reference if anyone needs it.
We're open for business here now. Getting to that, now. |
Now that I can stop spamming your profile... (ahaha...) What if I tossed you a quick character profile? Could you help me figure out which class he should be in?
|
Yes, I could.
Sorry I'm late in responding, had to get to sleep last night. Edit: Also, Espy, and everyone else, I'm not set in stone on the classes. If there's an archetype in demand that I don't have covered, let me know and I'll work something out. Also, if you have any ideas for special equipment let me know, as I feel like I haven't been able to come up with enough for variety yet. |
Oh, just a tiny update. I forgot to put an Abilities section in the character submission post. You can have pretty much whatever you want, as long as it a.) fits your character (and class) and b.) is in line with the middle-of-the-road power level I want to keep in here.
For non-magical classes, I'm not opposed to superhuman reflexes, strength, durability, intelligence, or what have you, but, again, nothing too outrageous. Call it passive psychic empowerment of physical abilities or whatever else you want, it's fine by me. |
This looks fantastic so far, I'm going to start putting together a profile.
I have a question, though. By 'literate', do you refer to a certain post length (if so, how long?) or correct grammar/spelling/punctuation/etc.? |
Mostly the latter. As long there's something of substance to a post, I'm not too concerned about length.
|
Do you want character profiles submitted here, or to you in a PM, or what?
Also, I wanted my character to have moderate to advanced psychic abilities, and also be adept at fencing (for when she feels like being offensive rather than her usual defensive =P). Does that sound feasible to you, or would that not work out? I didn't see any equipment that she might be able to use other than maybe the Mercury-alloy Blade. Edit: Also, just so I can get her background straight, how long after the apocalypse begins does this take place? |
You can put them here. I'll have an official list of characters in play in the RP thread.
And that should be fine, as long as you're not talking like "mind-control and entire planet passively" advanced. :p As listed, you can get any regular equipment you might want, too. Or, if you have an idea for an item you'd like, let me know and I can add it to the list. I wasn't trying to cater to specific character archetypes with the items (in most cases) so much as trying to think of items that would help people survive in this world. But, anyway, I'm completely open to adding more. |
Great, I'll write out a profile tonight when I get home. I'm definitely signing up, so save a spot for me! =3
|
Okay, cool. And seeing as it was your idea for me to do this, I'd say you have a guaranteed spot. ;)
|
I'm still working on it, I promise... I have a character idea in mind but I'm stumbling over the smaller points. I haven't really done this before and am nervous >>
|
No reason to be nervous, I have nothing to compare you to, having likewise never done this before. :p
Oh, and to everyone, for items, it's in your best interest to have a Purification Filter, as most water you come across will be poisoned by Wormwood. That is, unless your character has other means of purifying water. Not that we'll be getting really intricate with stuff like that (unless you guys want to) but it makes for good roleplaying. |
So, if I were to have a medic character who is theurgy-capable but not too inclined towards melee fighting, would they be a Survivor or Theurgist?
Also, in the roleplay's 'present day', how long has it been since the beginning of the apocalypse? |
Theurgist, in that case. As I said, the classes are flexible. I was originally going to do a stats and powers system for them, but it was just too complicated, so I abandoned it. As they stand now, they really just exist to add flavor to your character. A medic Theurgist is more than fine.
And for the timeline, I'd say roughly one generation. Let's say 35 years since the world-as-we-know-it ended. |
Well, here's my submission for my character. It's probably nothing but I half feel like I need to add more here >>
Name: Feenai Leornica Class: Psychic Abilities: Mental shields, minor telekenesis Items: Purification Filter, Succor Capsule x30 Picture (optional): Physical Description: 26 year old female, long dark hair, usually kept tied up in a loose bun to keep it neat. Pale skin. 5'4" Small features and lower than average musculature. Background: One of the many born since the apocalypse, her parents brought Feenai up to be independant and trusting. However, she developed psychic powers at age 16 and her parents did not know what to do about it. Feenai did not want to worry her parents and therefore never used her psychic abilities near them, and never really trained herself aside from minor telekenesis. She did, however, spend a lot of time connecting to the Amorpha Network and learning a lot of things about the world. |
That looks more or less fine, to me. Especially since I haven't come up with where we'll actually be starting play, making it somewhat hard to give a detailed background.
Too tired to give much thought to it now, but it would be either Alexandria or a smaller settlement (just because we need population density for the characters to realistically meet.) I'm in favor of a smaller settlement, myself. Thoughts from everyone else? Also, I apologize. I said I'd have my character up today, but it's been a really long day for me and I never got around to it. Tomorrow, definitely. |
A smaller settlement would probably be best, even if one or two people end up being drifters or whatever that came into town to start the ball rolling. Somehow it starting in a large place makes it seem less organized and random, at least in a smaller place there's a reason for most of the characters to already have some history.
|
That was pretty much my reasoning, as well. At a glance, I can say with fair certainty that it'll be either somewhere in north Africa or southern Europe, as the whole Holy Land area is a hotbed of apocalyptic warfare, to one degree or another.
Unless there's a desire to start off there. :p |
My character is from an isolated French village, which could work. But as Europe goes, France isn't very close to the action, so I can easily have her travel to the meetup area if that's preferable.
|
To clarify, I don't care where you guys' characters are from, as long as we can get them all together eventually. And seeing as we still have modern air and ground travel, that shouldn't be much of a problem to work into the beginning of the story.
I'm leaning towards southern Europe at the moment, if only to keep it distinct from Alexandria if we end up going there later. I might have to detail some other points of interest in the area in that case, though, which shouldn't be too much of a problem. Oh, and I didn't mention it anywhere above, but the Dragon crashed into the the northern United States when it was killed and caused a horrific explosion that wiped out a huge chunk of the country. Life is still going on to the south, but the north is a demon-infested desolation. Just in case, you know, we end up going there at any point. :p Edit: Also, sorry all, but I'm done for the night. Too tired to stay up any longer. I'll answer any other questions or suggestions you have first thing tomorrow. |
I didn't really pick a location for me, I left that open because I was totally clueless. So starting anywhere would probably be fine for me.
No one? Just me? Uhh... |
Good night, Suzerain.
Yeah, I just used France because I'm using one of my standard characters and that's where she's from. -shrug- Heh, Serra, I'd agree if I had any immediate questions. x3 |
Name: Ruebella Amaranthus
Class: Psychic Abilities: Empathetic and telepathic psychosis, sexual allure, and the ability to speak directly to certain family members through psychic connection. Items: Purification Filter, Medial Interface Device, Mercury-alloy Blade (fencing sabre passed down as a family heirloom). Picture: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...n/ruebella.png Physical Description: 22 year old Rue is 5' 7", and weighs as much as a thin woman who rarely eats is likely to weigh. She sports exaggerated curves which she sardonically calls her "tools of the trade." Her hair is dark reddish-brown and her skin, while not too pale, is still surprisingly light for the world she must live in. She has a tattoo of a heart on her upper left arm which often starts bleeding for no apparent reason. Background: Through the Eschaton and the years following, the Amaranthus lineage was unsurprisingly resilient in their survival. Having been loyal worshippers of the Son of Perdition for centuries prior, many members of the self-proclaimed black-blooded family had already developed weak theurgic and psychic abilities. With the arrival of the end of the world, their strengthening powers and loyalty to the Son and the Sibyl kept them safe and hidden within their vast underground home near the ruins of Babylon. The first member of the family to leave their underground haven since the end of the world, Rue is the weakest of her clan physically and the strongest mentally. She is adept at fencing and to a much lesser extent a highly defensive form of martial arts. Her uncanny ability to sense the thoughts and intentions of her relatives was amplified upon the surviving non-magickal humans of the upper world - most especially, it seemed, in the case of human men. Rue is at once an idealist and a realist. Her aspirations are purposely raised higher than she believes possible, and at the same time she is able to realize and accept that they will likely never come to fruition. She shamelessly uses whatever means possible to complete her goals, including her own body. Nobody has ever heard the details of what she hopes to accomplish through her pilgrimage into the dying world. Rue treats everyone with disdain and caution, and sees them all as tools meant for her personal use. For the people she trusts, she shows complete and utter honesty and loyalty, but those particular people come around rarely, if ever. Rue has only been in love once in her life, and anybody who might ask for details about it would likely find themselves on the end of her blade. Whoo, so there's mine. I managed to get it done before I ran out of steam for the night. And intelligibly, I hope. ;; Let me know if anything should be changed. I don't mind editing, if need be. <3 |
I was just perusing your NPCs and creatures and it already looks very impressive. :). Not sure if I'll get around to making a character anytime soon but I think I'll following along with the RP anyway. Will you be taking late-comers? Not quite sure if I can commit yet, espeically with unexpected relatives arriving in a couple days, and the wedding in a week. I want to try and keep Tyger et al. moving before getting into too much else.
|
Rue looks perfect, Dolly. Cool picture, too. ;)
@Quiet, yeah, you can join up later if you find yourself with the time. I'll make an exception for you, even if we get filled up (which, unless four more people show up wanting to play, shouldn't happen anyway.) As a general rule, though, we'll probably start with what we have once we're ready, as we have four characters (counting mine) now, which should be enough to get going with. Other people can still join after that, I'll just have work their characters into what's going on. Edit: Oh, Dolly, just to point out in case you missed it, The Dragon is Satan, who is dead. The rest of Hell is still alive and kicking, obviously, represented directly on Earth by the False Prophet, and the Beast when it deigns to speak. Likely, there's another high-ranking demon or fallen angel holding things together in Perdition proper. If you need info about that for your RPing, let me know, and I'll come up with someone. |
My character feels so empty and unplanned looking at Cupcake's long profile ^^;
Regardless I'm looking forward to doing this, I really am :) |
Right, I still need to do my character. Getting on that, now.
|
The empty threat from yesterday night will be a little less empty if you don't get that character done today Suzerain...
Nah, I'd never actually do that to you. |
I'm working on it now. Seriously. :p

Name: Jeanne Benoit
Class: Theurgist Abilities: Theurgical healing/purification Items: Sensory Enhancement Visor x1 Succor Capsule x30 Incendiary Laser x1 Physical Description: Jeanne is twenty-one years old. She has green eyes often hidden by tinted goggles, boyishly short brown hair, and tanned skin with a strong jaw. While she isn't 'beautiful' or 'delicate' in the conventional sense, she is not unattractive. She is fairly tall for a woman, around 5'10", and very thin. She wears heavily layered, scavenged clothing which hides her figure. She is often mistaken for a boy, which she has no problems with. Background: Jeanne grew up in the same household as the rest of her family; older brother, younger sister, parents and grandparents all shared the responsibilities of their small farm. However, Jeanne and her brother Jacques would often go on camping and hiking trips in the nearby mountains together, and in the last few years began to bring along their sister Mireille as well. From these expeditions she formed the basis of her practical survival knowledge. When not on an expedition, Jeanne learned many things from her family. Her father, a traveling preacher before he met her mother, helped her develop theurgical ability. Combined with her grandmother's pre-apocalyptic medical skills, she learned to heal wounds and purify toxins, although it took significant time on her part to do anything major with theurgy. This training also transferred to traditional medicine, although it was not her forte and she didn't spend much time on it. Jeanne's formulaic way of life ended when she was twenty. Her brother had left the year previously and she seemed to have mastered the material her family had given her. There was no question of her ability to survive, and so her family gave her several items and their blessing. Jeanne is driven by the search for information and learning. Wary of people who she doesn't know well, Jeanne doesn't talk a lot under most circumstances. She is generally a reserved person who prefers to be in control of herself at all times. |
Ooh, she sounds cool. And good call on the laser, has all kinds of utility. And being a Theurgist, you can recharge it yourself.
I'm just about finished with my character. Will post him soon. Other than that, I think we're just waiting on Espy, then we can get started. |
Whoo hoo, Suzerain's finally doing a character! I still have a friend who's supposedly interested in joining - which is probably a good thing, 'cuz it looks like we might need more guys to even out the girls. ;; He keeps putting off joining Trisphee and making a character though, so who knows.
Also, yeah, it's not too clear in the description but I figured the Dragon might be Satan. Rue's family is still loyal to his name, and they also worship Jezebel. But anything else you might be able to tell me that I should know for that would be helpful. =3 Oh, and I also might consider drawing OC pictures for anybody who wants one (I drew the picture of Rue =P). |
Name: Shealtiel Avshalom
Class: Servant of Sheol Abilities: Spiritual senses, command undead, animate dead, exorcise undead and demons, heal wounds, fear aura, body regulation, death magicks (all powers inflict some degree of bodily strain, proportional to the power of the spell.) Items: Purification Filter, Medial Interface Device, Interdiction Badge Physical Description: 57 years old, 5' 9” with hunched shoulders, sickeningly thin. Thinning white hair which he wears long; he shaves the top of his skull where he has begun to bald. Faded green eyes. Dresses only in gray, usually in a woolen robe. Wears a heavy dark violet mantle and carries an ebony walking stick. Background: Before the Eschaton, Shealtiel (though he went by a different name, then) had just completed schooling in theological studies. Born in Acre, he came from a well-off family and was raised to be shrewd, doubting, and critical. For most of his life before the End Times, he was an acolyte of the ancient mysticism of the Qabalah and a deeply spiritual individual. When the False Prophet came, and when the Beast razed Old Jerusalem, Shealtiel's family were all killed in the carnage, or were later lost in the nuclear chaos of Battle of Armageddon. He had been studying abroad in Greece at the time, and was spared the brunt of the catastrophes. Since then, he has renounced his previous faith and become terribly bitter. He mourns for his family and the life he once had. When he heard the whispers of Sheol calling to him, he heeded them eagerly, hoping to commune with the spirits of his loved ones, but to his dismay, they were not within the Realm of the Dead. Too late to escape the chilling clutches of Sheol's magicks, Shealtiel instead embraced them, and has taken to wandering the desolate earth, fighting against Abaddon's hordes wherever he finds them. He has lost count of how many spirits he has sent shrieking back into the cold darkness. But this private war has taken its toll on him, body and soul. He is aged beyond his years, and finds no joy in life. Trust comes slowly to him, and he usually avoids large settlements, as he is able to sustain his body with his magicks for months at a time without needing to eat or drink. When he does venture into cities, he always makes himself available to the local militia, should an attack occur. His name, which he chose upon forsaking all he once knew, means “Asked God for Peace”. |

And, now that I'm done with my character, I will make up more setting detail just for you. :p Oh, and I'd love a pic of mine, if you're offering. I really like your art style. |
I would love one too Cupcake, just let me know what else you need for a description and I'll send it your way.
