Das Musicals.

I have yet to see a thread on the power of Broadway and similiar stage streets, so here we are! Who loves musicals as much as I? I am simply entranced by them and sing and perform in many.

My current favourites:
Dracula Das Musical
Les Miserables
Urinetown
Avenue Q
Count of Monte Cristo

and the list goes oooon~
Talk about your favourite composers like Frank Wildhorn, Stephen Schwartz, Sondheim, Rogers and Hammerstein and more.
LET ME GEEK WITH YOU.

Is all I am saying. ;>

Fey 05-16-2011 10:58 PM

Oooooooo, lessee
Cats(seen this about five times...)
Phantom of the Opera
Les Miserables
Avenue Q
Fiddler on the Roof
Legally Blonde, The Musical

erm, I'm sure there's others, but those are what I can think of off the top of my head...

Quiet Man Cometh 05-16-2011 11:08 PM

I love seeing stuff live but it doesn't normally happen so I'm stuck with the movies. I've seen live shows of Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, and Ragtime. I few years back I trevelled to London and made a point of seeing a play on the last day, and opted for Cabaret, which is one of my favourites and I loved the version that was put on there (I saw it at the Lyric). "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" is one of my favourite songs. It kind of annoys me a little that when I searched it on youtube, a lot of people actually seemed to think that it was a Nazi song or something from the time of the Nazi youth. I guess that shows really to what effect the director of the movie used it.

I have seen SO many live shows. I have a shoebox filled with playbills and it weighs a ton.
my absolute favorite ever is Catch Me If You Can. it's a new one, just opened on broadway like a month ago. I saw it on its pre-broadway run in Seattle last year. it's MAGICAL.
I would love to see Repo! The Genetic Opera onstage, but I don't know if it's even playing anywhere.

Echo-chan713 05-19-2011 07:39 PM

Oh goodness lets see

=Repo!The Genetic Opera
=Rocky Horror Picture Show
=Moulin Rouge

and those are the only ones I can think of at the moment, I'll add more when I think of some more

Quiet Man Cometh 05-19-2011 07:58 PM

Oh yes! Went to Evil Dead the musical last year. That was fantastic! Though best appreciated by those who are familiar with the films and bad horror in general. One of the songs starts with "oh we're just five college students going to an old abandoned cabin in the woods." My friends and I sat in the splatter zone. We wore garbage bags home so we wouldn't get fake blood all over the car sears. I have the pictures to prove the damage.

Nanka 05-20-2011 05:11 PM

There are so many that I like. xD

Wicked
The Phantom of the Opera
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Repo! The Genetic Opera
Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella
RENT
Moulin Rouge
Mamma Mia
The Little Mermaid (On Broadway)
Chicago
Reefer Madness
Burlesque

I like musicals, okay? D8<

Blaine 05-20-2011 05:13 PM

I need to see reefer madnessssss.

EVERYONE HAS LOVELY TASTES IN HERE.

Echo-chan713 05-20-2011 05:18 PM

I found some more

Anastasia
Swan Princess
South Park Bigger, Longer, and Uncut

Nanka 05-20-2011 05:22 PM

We're allowed to count cartoons as well? >.>

Fey 05-21-2011 11:37 AM

Er, I dunno, they may be musical, but the original post was about stage stuff...not sure if all those have stage productions to go with 'em. I know that Disney alone has converted many of their musical movies into stage thigns. Part of me sorta wants to see Lion King and Little Mermaid...but more for the costuming than the storyline.

Aiko 05-21-2011 05:07 PM

I have to say my current favorites would be Hair and the Danish interpretation of Treasure Island

Quiet Man Cometh 05-21-2011 06:30 PM

I like the soundtrack to Hair but I've never seen it.

Curiously, one of the musicals I'm not all that fond of is The Sound of Music.

Smuggler 05-23-2011 05:31 PM

I don't really like -that- many musicals. xDD

I love Grease, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Mamma Mia and Hairspray though.

Quiet Man Cometh 05-23-2011 06:14 PM

I haven't seen Hairspray, but I've seen the others in movie form. I love Mamma Mia, and Grease is the music I often put on when I'm doing something like cleaning my room or whatnot. Makes the time go faster, especially when one is half-dancing to it. :)

Ashy 05-23-2011 06:17 PM

How can you mention famous musical composers without adding Andrew Lloyd Webber? D:<

Quiet Man Cometh 05-23-2011 06:22 PM

He tends to fall on either side of the bar I've noticed, either famous or infamous. He was rather prolific though, I don't think anyone can deny that. I can't say that I'm especially fond of any of his songs in particular, except the odd piece here and there but I suppose that goes for anyone else that I've encounted. I like most of the music from Phantom, but the songs from Cabaret are always the frontrunners, "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" and "Cabaret" in particular. John Kander and Fred Ebb are creditted with the music and lyrics, respectively.

Kit Katy 08-05-2011 01:29 PM

I love musicals and plays. I tend to go to the nearby theater with my family over the summer break a lot! Out of all the performances, my favorites are these:

Tommy
Phantom of the Opera
Mamma Mia
Marry Poppin's
Aladin
& Spamalot

Blaine 08-05-2011 01:55 PM

I just finished Pirates of Penzance at my commuinty theatre.x D!

FUNNY STORY, I was about to geek and post in this thread WHEN IS AW I STARTED IT.

Ooooh, the silly~

Kit Katy 08-05-2011 02:27 PM

Funny that you say pirates. lol I started an rp for pirates.
Has anybody seen CATS? I did but I didn't quite understand it.

aphrodite 08-06-2011 06:39 PM

phantom of the opera. cats and SWEENEY TODD!!!!!

Quiet Man Cometh 08-06-2011 09:52 PM

Cats appears to be a play about cats. The idea seems to be that every so often one cat get's picked out of the pile to get reborn. So we have stories about cats until in the end, it's the sort of stripper/street cat that gets picked for a new life. (The one that sang "Memories.")

Forgot "Dr Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog." The songs are actually pretty catchy in that one. I have them in my iTunes. :)

Blaine 08-07-2011 12:53 AM

Gus the Theatre Cat shoulda gone to the Heavyside Layer. Not nasty Grizabella.

Quiet Man Cometh 08-07-2011 05:58 AM

I like Gus. :) Macavity used to be my favourite song though, when my siblings and I weren't singing "Memories" ;). Didn't know that cat's particular name. I think the idea was that we were all supposed to feel sad for this cat who apparently at one point may have had a better life than the one she is dealing with now. Gus still has his theater at least.

Blaine 08-07-2011 10:51 AM

It's her own fault her life sucks now. AND, Gus wa solder than her by alot. Gus had palsy, he looked like he would keel over any second, just sadness, ahha.

My favourite song is Skimbleshanks for suuuureeeee. Cutest song ever. xD

Quiet Man Cometh 08-07-2011 11:26 PM

Don't think I recall that one. Been ages since I've heard the songs. Only watched it once on TV. Didn't realize they actually said anything about the past of Grizzy (or whatever her proper name is. Gee, I'm on top of things, aren't it?). Gus did still have his happy moments it seemed, even if it was the gin talking.
