Which are you?

Are you the reading-on-the-internet-type? Or the there's-much-more-satisfaction-owning-my-own-pocket-in-my-bookshelf kind of person?

Me myself am the there's-much-more-satisfaction-owning-my-own-pocket-in-my-bookshelf kind of person. My mind is more pleasured when I look at my bookshelf and see my beauties. Sitting in a good chair and reading from the classic paper. Haha, I'm so materialistic XD ☆

CupcakeDolly 04-30-2011 03:48 AM

When I was in high school and had a lot of classes to ignore/no money in my pockets, I found a lot of satisfaction in downloading and reading massive amounts of manga. Now that I'm older, wiser, and have disposable income, I find even more satisfaction from seeing neat little rows of books on my bookshelf. And when the world ends and the internet becomes obsolete, those of us who have invested in good old paper books will be the wisest of all.

Plus, all of the "read online" manga sites took away the porn. >(

Phidori 04-30-2011 04:30 PM

I'd rather own the books. O= ! I hate having to read online but since I'm currently poor and uh, I travel around way to often, I can't exactly invest in collecting books right now. When I can, I definitely will be switching back to old fashioned paperback. <3

Fey 04-30-2011 09:21 PM

I want books! This is why I'm soooooooo not a fan of all the kindle/nook/etc things out there. I like having PAPER, I like having spines and covers and fly-leafs and ink. There is something about the smell of a book...and yes, I've just sniffed my bookcases before...that is satisfying. I've got four boxes of comics, all bag'd and board'd and categorized, and I take sooooooo much joy in them, even if they're well read and falling apart.

That being said, I also have digital copies of all my stuff...in case heaven forbid I can't find the one I want RIGHT NOW. Also helps with the ones that silly american publishers haven't brought over..but even then I tend to find friends to find me the hard copy in their native language.

Serra Britt 04-30-2011 09:24 PM

I love having the actual books myself. It's just a different feeling being able to hold it in your hand vs reading it off the screen.

Glitch 04-30-2011 11:07 PM

I greatly prefer owning books. My eyes get enough strain from staring at the computer all day.

This. Definitely. Plus, you can't buy used kindle books. xD Getting awesome deals on used manga is like a high. Doesn't matter what title it is if you're walking out of the store with a $2 volume.

Fey 05-01-2011 12:22 AM

OMG yes! used books are aaaaaamazing! and while i love walking out with new books, used books make me feel like a super hero. I mean, here they were unloved and unwanted and I'm taking them home to a place they will be adored!

CupcakeDolly 05-01-2011 02:03 AM

I know, I love used bookstores for exactly that reason. You never know what kind of treasures you're going to find in places where retail bookstores have no authority. And finding used manga is usually a rare thing out where I am, so it's always an awesome find. <3

Taiania 05-01-2011 12:19 PM

I like owning books. Something I can hold in my hands.

Funkduder 05-01-2011 02:41 PM

I read online b/c it's a lot faster, but I collect the books for the sake of collecting so I guess you could say both.

Echo-chan713 05-03-2011 05:46 PM

I'm both what I do is the first couple of books online then when I really like it then I buy the book online (B&N, ebay, etc).

But I seem to do this pattern where I watch the anime then read the books online then I buy the books, I'm the total opposite of people

Indeed, indeed. But at least we have FAKKU and Hentaish! O 3 o

Sadrain 05-04-2011 11:19 AM

I swing both ways~~ It sprouts from the fact sometimes I can't get some books online, and sometimes some in real life, and that sometimes I just want to read and own books in my own natural language, which means I need to get the books in shelf, then. P=

Gallowsraven 05-05-2011 07:48 AM

prefer owning but unfortunately i can't afford to buy them, and i also don't have any more space for them T T, so manga tends to be read online for me. I'm currently devouring The Wallflower and Black Bird :D

Bookworm_Ninja 05-27-2011 12:04 AM

Since I am poor I am reading online but I rather enjoy reading a good old fashioned book e-readers just drive me nuts. So once I have money to spend I will definitely be buying my manga again.

Ashurato 05-27-2011 12:12 AM

I have very little room for more books (not to mention money isn't exactly falling off the trees), so I mainly stick to online.

However, if I find a series that I like enough online, then I will buy the printed version. I actually prefer doing it this way rather than investing on a series and find out that it is either discontinued or takes a tangent that I do not like.

Poggio 05-27-2011 01:51 AM

I enjoy hard copies of things. There is something very 451 about having things on in the internet.

Serra Britt 05-28-2011 12:53 PM

I went into a bookstore recently and it's probably a good thing I didn't have spare money because I was considering about $100 worth of manga...

I am very distressed from not buying manga in such a long time xD

Mizeria 05-28-2011 09:43 PM

I'm the "there's-much-more-satisfaction-owning-my-own-pocket-in-my-bookshelf"
I have over 200 manga books... and (at last count over 27 series)
^.^;;

Serra Britt 05-28-2011 10:06 PM

I'm not sure I want to count but I have a large manga collection xD It fills almost 2 small bookshelves with some space for a few figures :3

Gallowsraven 05-29-2011 02:06 PM

I don't have the money, i only own one or two, i borrow the rest or read online. such a bummer, i'm jealous :)

Joey 05-29-2011 02:20 PM

I like both. I like to read online to read a series. And same with having it in book form. Also, I like to support the author too by buying the different volumes that were released in my area (When I have money to spent, etc).

Quiet Man Cometh 06-02-2011 02:16 AM

I like books, but as with most I cannot afford to buy all that I would like, and don't have the space yet if I could. If I have something illustrated though, particularly in colour, I much prefer to have a book or other hard copy rather than anything digital. The image never seems to come off as good to me online as when I can see it on paper.

Shei_Beloved 06-03-2011 06:57 PM

I'd rather own the book if I can afford it something about being able to flip the pag just makes it so much better but if I have to I'll download the book

Sushi 06-04-2011 10:36 PM

I'm a reading on the internet type. I either don't have the money, can't get to a bookstore, or have no where to put it when it comes to buying manga. :(

M e w 06-07-2011 02:57 PM

I LOVE looking at my bookshelf and seeing all the pretty spines of my books. x3
Unfortunately right now it's empty as my books are packed up in boxes since I'm moving this weekend but when they're up there my bookshelf is just about overflowing. I need a nice big one. D:

I got a Nook from my aunt as a late Christmas present and it's a great little gadget, but I'll never stop buying actual physical books as long as they're being printed. The books I go out and buy now though tend to be ones that I'm looking forward to.

So I do prefer having my own physical books and being able to see them fill up a space and look oh-so-lovely but I also enjoy the convenience and innovation of online reading and using my Nook.

EDIT ;; Oh ya! I saw a commercial for the Kindle recently and there was a girl and guy comparing having an actual book and having a Kindle.
The girl at the end was saying something about how she can mark her place in her book, "the satisfaction of BENDING back the page!"
SHE 'EFFIN DOGTAGGED HER PAGE! DX
Omgomgomg I can't handle that shit! I was about ready to throw something at my tv lmao.
Maybe a little extreme but I hate it when people bend pages and stuff like that. I can't even buy a book if it has bent pages and junk.
That's probably my OCD side but I also just can't stand it when people do that stuff ugh!
- end rant -

Lol ya I just remembered that and had to get it out lol. OTL

Feythfull 06-07-2011 06:33 PM

i am one of those people who like to own the book Dx i really shouldn't spend so much money on it.

Vanitas 06-12-2011 12:59 AM

I only read manga online and I do buy books which is rare, but I absolutely love reading and when it comes to books I'm the type who likes to have their own bookshelf person 8D

Sailor Moon 06-25-2011 04:52 PM

I enjoy having the copy in my hands, but I will do reading online.
Because some of the things I read aren't released in English at all.

Ichiru 06-30-2011 09:36 AM

The best thing is holding the book in my hands to read. I sort of enjoy the art more then online. But I have no problem with online reading. My tight budget makes me read online. :W If that wasn't the case I'd probably buy them all.

Shenandoah 07-01-2011 01:58 PM

I'm both. I can't afford all the manga I read and most of the time, I'll just read it online. But there are some series that I am so in love with, I buy them.

(。◕‿◕。) I love seeing the books on my bookshelf
and the files on my pc. But now, it
just doesn't matter to me how I have
the mangas. I sold all of mine to get
more money when we were low on funds
for our normal living so now if I just
read online it's ok with me.

I prefer to own the paper versions, but I don't mind reading it online.
