"Hey mom I'm going out to hang with Jimmy and the guys." Holden yelled as he walked down the stairs.
"Ok honey have fun." His mom yelled back. "Oh I hope I will." Holden said to himself with an evil smile. He went out the door and hoped in his car. He got to where he was meeting his friends. He felt bad that he lied to his mom about who his friends were. "Hey Alicia." Holden said as he got out of the car. "Hey Holden don't you look cute." She said as she adjusted his jacket and gave him a hug. "Thank you." Holden said hugging her back. "Now sweety I think we have found the perfect man for you." She said with a smile. She grabbed his arm and pulled him over to his other girl friends. "Well the last time you said that he turned out to be a total asshole." Holden said as she pulled him over to the other girls. "I know I did but this time I looked very hard," she giggled. "And I think I did find the man for you." She said with a wink. |
With a sigh, the thin male with black hair took a long drag off his cigarette. He glanced around boredly, his sharp blue eyes taking in the details of the quaint little cafe he was at. Blind dates were not his thing, but hey, if it possibly meant a one night stand, who could pass it up? Finally, after what seemed like ages to the humans, he exhaled the smoke into the wind. He was many things, but rude to non-smokers was not one of them.
He looked up as he heard tiny heels clicking by, then stopping near him. The waitress came back with his coffee and banana nut muffin. He smiled, nodded in thanks and took a drink of the coffee. Ahh..black..like my soul. he chuckled softly to himself, peeling off a small bit of the muffin and popping it into his mouth. Any minute now I guess, he thought as he looked at the black banded watch on his wrist. 3:32pm. "What a waste of my day." |
"Now he may seem a little weird but he is really sweet just like you." Alicia said as they neared the cafe.
"What do you mean weird?" Holden asked now a little more nervous. "I don't know how to really explain it but he is sexy and so are you. But please try to make this more than a one night stand." She said looking up at him. Holden sighed. "I will try." He said looking down at the ground. "Promise?" She said with a bright smile. "I promise." Holden said with a low tone in his voice. "Ok we are almost there and when you see him let me know what you think." She said almost ready to skip. "I will." Holden said starting to get a little bit more nervous. They reached the cafe and were a few feet away from it when she stopped. "Well?" She asked pointing at the man with the cigarette. Holden looked at the man and his heart skipped a beat. "He is very hot." Holden said slightly less nervous. "Let's go." She said pulling him until they were right in front of the man. "Hello Solomon." She said with a smile. "This is Holden." "Hello." Holden said as he stretched out his hand and had a smile. |
Solomon put his elbow on the table, resting his head on his palm, his fingers becoming covered in his thick hair. For a moment, he didn't look up, not really sure if he was really into this whole date thing. He sighed, glancing up, "Well Alicia, you were right. Your friend is quite marvelous." He motioned for them to sit, "I know you'd feel awkward Ali, but you're welcome to stay if you'd like."
He looked to Holden's hand with a slight frown, shaking it quickly before grabbing his cigarette from the ash tray and taking another drag. As he spoke, the smoke trailed from his mouth, "Well then...Holden.." he paused a moment, mulling over the name, "Very interesting..never met a man with that name." |
Alicia smiled. She sat down. "I don't feel awkward, I feel that on a first date it should be the two people alone." She said as she stood back up.
Holden sat down, "He has very soft hands." He thought to himself as Solomon talked to Alicia. "I'm gonna go." She said placing a kiss on Holden's cheek. He snapped out of his thoughts when Solomon talked to him. "Thanks." Holden said with a smile. "I've never heard the name Solomon before myself." He said brushing the hair out of his eyes. |
He nodded, giving Alicia a slight wave, "Enjoy the rest of the afternoon. I'll keep Holden out of your hair for awhile." He chuckled, giving her a quick wink. He then looked back to Holden, "It's a bit more common out East, in England."
He let out a soft sigh, taking another drink from his coffee, "If you're hungry or anything, feel free. I wouldn't want to starve you on a first date. That's just rude." The more he spoke, the more apparent it was that Solomon definitely was not from around here as his accent indicated he was from somewhere in England. "Alicia didn't mention much about you; she said I'd have to wait." He gave a slight frown, watching him curiously with his ice blue eyes. |
"I see." Holden said as he examined Solomon's face. "He looks gentle." "I'm good." Holden said with a boyish smile. "Well there isn't much about me to tell," He said with a shrug. "I mean not saying that I'm not interesting, there's just a lot my family and even Alicia don't know about me." Holden said with a smile. Holden looked into Solomon's beautiful blue eyes. "Sorry if this is fast or something, but you have the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen." Holden said hoping this wouldn't surprise Solomon.

Solomon started at him blankly as Holden spoke, as if he wasn't listening. "No, not at all Holden. I don't mind it at all, in fact, I prefer if things didn't draw on. No offense." He took another long drag from the cigarette, then quickly smashed it in the ash tray, as it was nearly gone anyway. With a sigh, he stood, holding his hand out to Holden, "Well then, shall we be off? I've already payed.."
Solomon quickly looked over his shoulder, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Now what does she want.." he muttered softly, looking back to Holden, "Excuse me." He let out an irritated grunt as he hurried cross the street to a dark haired woman. The two obviously disliked each other, that much was apparent by how they stood near each other. Solomon had his arms crossed over his chest and the woman's hands were on her hips. The two talked for only a few moments before Solomon was storming back over to Holden. "Women.." |
Holden smile at Solomon. "Ok." He said as he stood up to grab his hand. Holden saw the two arguing "I wonder who she is." Holden said to himself. "That's why I don't date them." Holden said with a smile.

Solomon rolled his eyes, running a hand through his hair, "You and me both, Holden. Such whiny creatures they are." He smiled a bit, shoving his hands into his pockets, "And please don't tell me youre the shy type. Oh, that drives me nuts."
He sighed, taking Holden's hand to lead him through the small cafe patio and to the sidewalk. Once there, he let him go, his hand going straight back to his pocket. Contact was not one of his favorite things. "What shall we do today Holden?" |
Holden smiled. "No I'm not I'm actually very outgoing, I am just a little nervous. I also put on a little bit of shyness cause some guy's like it." He said biting his lip and looking at Solomon. "Are you the shy type?" He asked as Solomon grabbed his hand. He fallowed Solomon through the cafe. "Hmm why don't we walk around and get to know each other, if you don't wanna walk I can drive." Holden said crossing his arms.

When Holden asked him if he was shy, he stopped dead in his tracks, "Me? Oh no, not at all." As if to prove the point, he grabbed Holden by the waist and pulled him close. His face was only centimeters from Holden. A smile came across his face as Holden became bright red.
With a laugh, he let the boy go, his hand gently patting him on the back, "You're just too cute when you get nervous." He continued on the sidewalk, "So, what about you Holden? Tell me about yourself." |
Holden's face was bright red for a few minutes. "Thanks." He said trying to shake off his nervousness. "Eherm well not much to tell really I graduated top of my class in High School. My parents a rich, and I work at my dad's law firm, which I will one day inherit, yay" He said sarcastically.

Solomon rolled his eyes, "Ugh, law. Load of crap that stuff is, that's for sure." After a moment, he spoke again, "Well, what do you like to do in your free time? There's got to be something unique about you."

"It is indeed." Holden said rolling his eyes. "I like to cause havoc, I've never told anyone about this, but I know they aren't real and I've always wanted to be a vampire." He said picturing the destruction he would cause. An evil smile came over his face.

Solomon slapped him upside the back of his head, "You will behave on our first get together young man." He let out a quiet sigh as Holden mentioned vampires. "You know, it's not all it's cracked up to be." He kept his eyes forward, a certain coldness in the air suddenly came between the two. Solomon walked stiffly, a bit agitated.
After a moment of this awkward silence, Solomon spoke again, appearing to be more relaxed now. "What about sports? What else are you interested in? Come on, you seem so...plain. Don't tell me I'm going to be possibly dating a Plain Jane." |
"Ow!" Holden said rubbing his head. "I didn't say we cause havoc I just said I like to." He said slightly irritated. He felt a coldness surround him. "That's weird." He thought to himself. "Well I played rugby, and football my senor year in high school. I lead my school to the championships." Holden said a little proud.

"Rugby? Strange..I don't think I could pin you as a rugby player." He smiled a bit, curious if Holden was ever going to ask him anything. "And you are not to cause havoc..that's my job."

"Well rugby is kind of like football." He said with a smile "Maybe we can cause havoc together." Holden said with a wink. "I can tell by your accent that you are from England, why did you come here to America? If I may ask." He said looking at Solomon. While he waited for a response his mind went back to the almost kiss. "This man is so beautiful." He thought to himself. "Do you play any sports?" Holden asked trying to find out as much as he could about this man.

"I would never be caught dead doing something so dirty.." He laughed a bit. "Well.." I had to move at some point. After all, someone's going to notice that I don't age. "Just..vacation. Well, more of a hiatus. I'm going to be here for a few years yet. Oh don't look so sad, I could take you with me. You'd love it there."

Holden smiled when Solomon said that. He just wanted to hug him. "I would go anywhere to get away from my dad's law firm. And I hear that a few schools in England have a great art program." Holden said with a smile. "What interests you?" He asked looking up at the sky.

"You like art? Well I'm surprised." He smiled a bit, pondering for a moment, "Perhaps I'll just have to kidnap you then." He chuckled, "Me? Many things. Many forms of art, reading, horses; mainly racing and breeding. Animals d--"
Suddenly, he yelled in surprise as a brown squirrel jumped onto his head. "What the devil?" His hand, only a blur to Holden, grabbed onto the disease ridden creature's neck as he pulled it off. "You stinky little bastard! Your ruining my date and I will not have that." His eyes flashed red for a brief second before the threw the squirrel in front of a semi-truck as it rolled by. |
"Ya I'll have to show you sometime." Holden said with a smile. "Hey it wouldn't be kidnapping if I agreed to it." He said with a wink. Holden just stood there while Solomon freaked out. "Well I guess that's what she meant by being weird." Holden said trying not to laugh. "Eherm have any of your horses won any trophies?" Holden asked trying to move on from his little freak out.

He smiled weakly, straightening his hair, "Sorry..like I was saying, sometimes animals don't like me. It's almost a daily thing with me." He chuckled, "My horse never looses. She's quite amazing. I just wish I could get my colt on the track, but he's been having some issues with his knees. Poor thing." He sighed a bit, then quickly changed the subject, "You seem a bit..surprised about something. Did Alicia say something bad about me? How dare she."

"No she didn't, she just said you can be out there sometime." He said grabbing Solomon's hand. "To tell you the truth I think its cute." Holden said with a wink. "I'm sorry to hear about your horse, is he an old one?" Holden asked letting go of Solomon's hand. "Alica is a card, she has helped me since I first met her. Which was...," He pondered for a second. "Twelve years ago." He said with a smile. "She's like the sister I never had." He said looking at Solomon.

Solomon was mildly surprised when Holden took his hand, "You should probably wait until I wash that hand..squirrels are nasty." He made no move to pull his hand away though, "Out there? Well that's insulting. I just..get off track sometimes." He let out a sigh, "Not at all, he's only 2, but his left knee is a bit out of alignment from an awkward birth, and it's affecting his other knee. I could put him through surgery, but horses are obviously not like humans. Surgery is way more risky. If a horse is laying down for so long, they could suffocate. And with a surgery like that, he'd be down quite a bit. It makes me worry."

"Poor guy." Holden said with a frown. "Can't you put him in a sling so he stays upright?" He asked wanting to grab his arm, but decided not to. "What books do you like to read?" He asked pondering things.

"It's a lot more complicated than you think. Books? Many. I couldn't even think of where to begin listing books." He smiled, pulling his hand from Holden and putting it around the boys waist, "Oh! I know what we can do! We could head to the county fair! I think they just opened yesterday! I think that's a perfect idea. You?"

Holden's face got a little red when Solomon put his hand around his waist. "Um sure I haven't been to the fair for a few years." Holden said smiling. Holden sighed "I'm really glad I did this." "Did I just say that?" He asked himself waiting for his response.

Solomon ruffled the boy's hair with his spare hand, "At least you're halfway decent. The last time I did a blind date..well..we'll not go into details."
After a few moments of walking, they found themselves at the fair grounds. Throngs of people slowly filtered in, paying their fees and moving along quickly. Solomon led Holden up, paying for their entry bands and heading inside. He fastened the band around his wrist, and then took care of Holden's, "Ah! I almost forgot! I think Jack was bringing Zera and Rilov by for the show. We should check, then you could see my lovely horses." He smiled, leading Holden to the way back of the fair where the stalls were held. He searched the crowd, but could not find who he was looking for, "I don't see him, but I see the trailer." |
"My last blind date wasn't good either he was a complete jackass." Holden said as Solomon put the band around his wrist. "Unusual names but I like 'em." He said with a smile. "You should be able to go into the barn since they are your horses." Holden said looking through the crowd of people.

"It's not that, it's the other horses I'm worried about. Like I said, animals...my horses are used to me, so they're okay. Perhaps once everyone's trickled out we can go in..then they won't notice the ruckus. Oh! There he is! He can take them to the arena. They could use a little free lance walk."
He rushed over to Jack, bringing Holden with him, "Jack! Hey, question for ya. Is the arena occupied? Perhaps you could bring Zera and Ri out? Im sure they would love to stretch. Oh! How are Ri's knees?" The man nodded, "Of course sir, I'm sure they would love it indeed. And he's doing pretty good. The good weather is being good to his joints." With that, the brown haired man hurried off. |
Holden just walked along with Solomon. He didn't say a word when he was speaking with Jack. "He seems nice." Holden said with a cute smile. "Also I don't see why any animal wouldn't like you." He said still smiling. Holden was surprised at how excited Solomon got when he saw Jack, but he thought that it makes Solomon more enduring.

"He's such a wonderful man. Ah, there they are now!" He walked over to the outdoor arena. He leaned up on the wooden fence, crossing his arms on the top board. Two black horses came trotting out down the little path. One was obviously limping and just overall smaller than the other, Solomon pointed, "That one is Rilov...he has such a wonderful personality, but I have no clue what I'm going to do about his damn knees..."
They went around the arena a few times before the Mare came over with a snort. She bobbed her head a few times, exhaling loudly at Holden. Solomon laughed, "She doesn't like you. She thinks you're going to steal all my attention from her." He leaned in and whispered, "I think she's right though." |
"He is so beautiful." Holden said as the other horse came up to Solomon. He giggled when Solomon said that. Holden reached out to touch her nose. "Don't worry honey I won't totally steal him from you." He said winking at Solomon. "You are a very beautiful horse." He said smiling at the horse.

Solomon laughed, "Oh yes you will. He will you know, Zeze. He;s going to take me away from you."
The horse snorted, reaching her nose out to sniff Holden's hand. Solomon smiled a bit, his horses were used to his..vampiric presence. He was hoping to buy a few more young ones, so they could adjust quickly, but he just hasn't gotten around to it. "Have you ever ridden a horse? It's quite relaxing and entertaining." |
"I would never steal someone away from a beautiful creature like this." Holden said winking at the horse. "Actually I never have, I have always wanted to but my parents wouldn't buy me one." He said trying not to sound like a rich boy. "Wow I'm sorry I didn't mean to go all rich boy on you." Holden said looking at Solomon apologetic.

Solomon laughed, "Oh my dear, don't worry about it. Not to do the same, but my wealth would put your parents to deep shame." He coughed a bit with a frown. "I do have her saddle here, as I was planning on exercising her for awhile, if you'd love to try. Of course, Rilov can't be ridden with his knees, but I can still instruct you from the ground. In fact, it's easier that way."
