Opinions on my Current WIP?

hello folks!
i'm bret, and i'm new here to trisphee.
being someone who loves to draw, naturally the first place i came to be sociable was this forum!

i would love to get some feedback on my current work in progress;
i'm getting back into using ballpoint pen again. :]

Ooh~ that has potential ^^

Bretagne du Nuage 02-17-2011 06:13 PM

hehe thanks.
i want to darken up the shading on the nearly completed portion, maybe add a little more detail before moving on to the second sylph. ^^

Rem 02-17-2011 06:15 PM

Oh heyy another ballpoint pen enthusiast 8D
I love the design there, very interesting! Are they some sort of fairy?
I like the shading beneath the bust-line as well, I think that's my favorite part.
(imma stalkin' joooo... lol nah this is one of my home forums. promise :'D)

Bretagne du Nuage 02-17-2011 06:28 PM

lulz, it's all good, even if you were stalking me i don't think i'd mind. XD

yes their supposed me be kind of like farirs/sylphs-
elemental faye that take on the persona of plants or flowers.

and yesss, i love ballpoint!
so much more control than most inking pens.

Rem 02-17-2011 09:04 PM

aw pshaw *grins* y'flatter me

I have some beautiful Micron pens but the trouble with those seems to be my paper choice xD if you're not using a really expensive smooth paper they catch and bleed really easily ): plus my hand shakes a bit anymore when I draw so something so fine needs more precision than I can give it. Which is a shame u3u; makes inking hard for a wannabe comic artist fufu

but er anyway xD tangent.. Bic! the feathery shading you can get is my favorite part :V
Those are so cool tho, do you have other designs, like other types of flowers and plants?

Bretagne du Nuage 02-17-2011 09:52 PM

i have a micron that i use for linework when i color pieces.
i still have quite a few copics, but have had to replace most that i have with prisma colors.
i know what you mean about the hand shaking!
and sometimes my hands just cramp up so bad.
it takes me ages to draw stuff anymore it seems. =.='

yes i love that about bics!
i have a sketch one of a sapling/root type thing that i've yet to scan,
and have done "flower child" type doodles before and things,
but these are fairly new for me,
as well as this style.

Feythfull 02-18-2011 12:02 AM

very nice are they fairies? I like fairies! And drawing with ballpoint pen is fun!

Bretagne du Nuage 02-18-2011 01:02 AM

thank you!
and yes their something along those lines ^^

ballpoint is a blast, from doodling to more serious stuff, i love it. <3

Forsaken 02-18-2011 03:25 AM

Ah, es ist seher schon!
(It is very beautiful!)
I'm a fan of ink, myself. Though my style is not as gentle as your own, with said medium. I do enjoy it a lot, however.. Will the second one be in the same indigo/royal blue, or will it take another tone? Alas, I also find myself wondering-
'What styles of shading is he using..?'
Pointillism, perhaps? Else, you also are very talented in controlling the ink, considering you are using ball-point.
Beautiful, though.

I heard someone say "ballpoint pen"~

Bretagne du Nuage 02-18-2011 11:53 AM

espy: pfft yes, ballpoiunt ftw! :'D

forsaken: my you flatter me so!
as for shading i start out rather light and try to keep a somwhat feathered texture to the strokes, then darken and add more exact lines as i progress.

my other one i'm undecided as to what ink color to do.
since it's going to have a more wintry feel i've considered doing the other in black, but i may choose to stick with the blue.

Forsaken 02-18-2011 01:41 PM

Hmmm...

Might I be so bold as to suggest a light aqua? Give the second one sort of a glassy look? Or, perhaps a gentle lavender?

Ah, I see.. My, I can only do such with classing black ink, for shading... The blue colours, especially, always blotch on me. Kudos, truly.

Bretagne du Nuage 02-19-2011 02:48 PM

oh that would be so pretty!
i'd have to find the color though, i'm currently just limited to black and blue ink for my ballpoints, and any of my other inking pens i don't have the same control with, i end up having to do cross hatching instead.

i really should go on the prowl for more colors.

Forsaken 02-19-2011 03:01 PM

Mmm, ballpoint..

I know Sharpie makes ballpoint pens... And another brand, Pilot. They have many colours, as well. :)

Bretagne du Nuage 02-19-2011 04:38 PM

thanks for letting me know!!!
pilot makes good ens, i knew they carried some different colors but i didn't know they had a bunch-
and sharpie makes ball point pens now!? that knowledge has potentially made this the best day of my life. `(>-<)'

Forsaken 02-21-2011 02:40 PM

*chuckles* My, I'm glad to have put a smile on your face, dear. ^.^ Yes, they do. I work with Sharpie oft, though I use the Sharpie Pen far less then the fine-tipped original. But yes, Sharpie Pen now has a ballpoint addition to the tip-styles.

EDIT: They also have one that won't come out in the wash... It's my latest favorite. :3 It's only in black, right now... but that's alright, because I use that most oft anyway.

Bretagne du Nuage 02-21-2011 08:03 PM

oh my goodness, they finally have one that won't bleed at all if you run fabric you've drawn on in the wash?
it's a dream come true! :'D
i used to use sharpie's for coloring quite a bit before i got my copics, now i use them mainly for when i have tp draw on wood surfaces and things.

Forsaken 02-22-2011 01:46 PM

*nods* I use most any kind of pen.. but Sharpie is always a favorite for ink pieces. I did one of my greatest pieces all in black Sharpie. And I draw on my jeans with them, all of the time. (chuckle, chuckle)

Hmmm... I've not worked much with Copics, though... Good on fabric..?

Bretagne du Nuage 02-22-2011 04:03 PM

copics are really meant for paper illustrations, and they work amazing!
great buildable color, and they don't much bleed.
you can't use ballpoint or sharpie for your line work though because the copics will cause that to bleed, microns work great with them though. for fabrics i still go with sharpies or fabric paint. ^^

i used to doodle on my jeans all the time, drove my mom crazy while i was in high school. XP

Rem 02-23-2011 05:07 AM

I just had to stop by and say I love your avi Bret... it's so bright *w* and like pop out at you and grab you by the eyeballs bright, I love it
Those aren't colors you see all the time either

Bretagne du Nuage 02-23-2011 09:37 PM

awww thank you rem. i'm pretty proud of it for being my first avi!
and thank you doubly, i love unique colors. <3

*squeezes tight*
you're looking dapper as ever. ^^

Rem 02-24-2011 03:40 AM

Haha well thank you love =w= I am rather proud of my work I have to admit
I usually suck at making avatars too, more of that design fail xD I can't even be fashionable on websites much less real life (seriously my ex [ugh weird to say..] used to make fun of me all the time because I'd be like WHAT IS WRONG WITH A MAROON SHIRT UNDER A BLUE PLAID SHIRT WITH BLACK JEANS AND GREY SHOES WHAT WHAT)
(this one's also probably good cos I can only work with 2 colors at a time and one of them must always be black lmao)

*grins* you should be proud love *squeezes back* I shall have todraw that eventually
and I figured out why it's so awesome to me I LOVE purple and red together

Bretagne du Nuage 02-24-2011 02:07 PM

hehe that sounds a bit like my boyfriend, granted he just doesn't care enough to try, but hen it comes to clothes unless it's mostly black he can't color coordinate to save his life. XP

*highfves* red and purple ftw!!!

Batty 02-24-2011 03:42 PM

Oh, WHOA Breta! You're really awesome with ballpoint!
