Anyone know how to get the main base arms to go away for other poses?

Yeah, go to the avatar editor and select "female" or "male". Scroll down, and there'll be an invisible base. Pick that one. Then you can rebuild your avatar with individual body pieces.

There's no way to get rid of just the arms though.

Yeah you gotta go buy adam's parts in the body shop (it'll appear under the acessories tab)
