Final Fantasy Thread!
 

Sooo, I don't know if there's one already(I looked on the first two pages and no recent general FF threads) so I thought I'd make one!

Final Fantasy is one of my favorite game franchises, and while I haven't played all of them, I've played enough to find the franchise as a whole enjoyable!

What is everyone's favorite Final Fantasy game? Favorite character? Favorite villain? Favorite non-human character?

i was wondering if there was one!

I grew up with Final Fantasy (actually a lot of JRPGs but I digress). I used to RP it, and even make OCs (I still make OCs but they're...better planned now tbh).

My favorites are IX, X/X-2, VII, VIII, and The MMO. I have touched on the older games and Dissidia though.

Favorite character from each are Vivi, Tidus, yuna, Tifa, Quistis and because im Garbage who likes to play Dragoons i love Foulques from the Lancer class quests in FFXIV.

As for Villians Sephiroth is a big fan fave and I like him, but my most favorite one is probably Kuja and Garland.

Yeah, I finally thought why not just make one?? .__.

I first learned of Final Fantasy in 2004 when I saw a friend playing X-2. And I was all "Ooohh this looks interesting!" xD then finally learned more about the franchise some couple years later.

My favorites are VII, VIII, and III. I like XIII to an extent, also. XV is great, too!

My fave characters are Reno, Rinoa, Aerith, Tifa, Refia, and Vanille. There's others I love too, though, but yeah. XD

Fave villain.... is also Sephiroth LOL but Tonberries are interesting too if they count. xD

When you say III, do you mean the NES one (actual 3) or the SNES one (actually 6)?

My favorite is V. It's fun, it doesn't take itself too seriously, it's got game mechanics that are fun to play with (even if they're kinda unbalanced), it has good music... I think it's rather underrated. VI is my second-favorite.

I've always thought VII is overrated. It's not terrible, but it's not really that amazing.

Actual 3, as in the one with Luneth and Refia. xD I have the DS version of it. :)

I also really want to play V eventually. I like checking out the not as popular ones. Even if VII is one of my favorites.

The best version of V is the GBA one. The postgame content is enjoyable even though by the time you get the postgame jobs they're not really useful anymore.

I agree that III is good. In terms of game mechanics, V is an evolved, cleaned-up, less-clunky version of III. I have the DS version as well but I got sidetracked away from finishing it. ^^() I need to dig it out and finish it some time.

I have only played V on the GBA.

I got into FF because my dad bought VII on his Playstation and i was doomed from there.

I have yet to finish III, myself, but I appreciate the game a lot but could be because it was one of the first few I actually played.

I can’t words well right now but IV was the best.

IV was best at making you care about the characters, for sure.

When it comes to characters i just get attached regardless. It's...not hard to make me care about characters.

Oh, I almost forgot -- I also play Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. I... um... I really need to get around to catching up with the storyline. ^^() I've been spending so much time playing the events that I've neglected the main game.

Kain is probably still my favorite FF character.

Twitch has a version of XIV free, and my friend got it!

he loves playing short races (halflings in D&D etc) and he JUMPED on lalafel.
He's having so much fun and i'd totally join in if i could ;w;

It's not hard for me to get attached, either. XD

I caved, bought a month,and I might continue to pay because I forgot how much fun this game is.

I forgot how much I love the Lancer class...

I love playing short races as well, so I also went with lala back when I played the free trial, and my FFXIV friend was v much not impressed. (He haaaates lalafels.)

I love lalafels. i think it's a neat take on short races, plus IDk they're adorable????

Edit: If you have twitch prime i think they're still giving out the base game for free along with a month trial.

I used to love final fantasy 10 on the ps2. still my fave in the ff series.

I'm excited for both the FF VII Remake as well as the VIII remaster. I probably won't be able to get the remaster til later, but still glad it's happening.

i'd like to purchase XIV, but i think i'm probably going to need to figure out how to emulate half a dozen other games to get the full story of things? idk if all of it is wrapped up in its own story or if they all tie into each other.

Final Fantasy games don't exist in a shared universe, in general. There are a few games that explicitly tie into each other, but FF14 only ties into the past games with oblique lore references that you can just read about in a wiki.

i really like lore entries, so i might see if there's a free weekend going on or something.

FFXIV lets you play for free until something like lvl 35, I'm pretty sure.

I've played that game far too much, although not a whole lot recently.

does it have a subscription-based service or is it a one-time fee?

XIV is subscription, with paid expansions.

rifp, can't really do subscriptions.

So I bought World of Final Fantasy while it was on sale on Steam. It's fun! :D

I recently picked up FFX HD Remastered again! ^U^
holy f*ckin' HELL this game is long! 8(
I'm facing Lady Yunalesca right now and I'm STILL not at the end!

Sooo I was originally gonna buy a Switch Lite and get Animal Crossing New Horizons after I sell my Vita to a friend and finish some commissions...

BUT with how much FFVII means to me I have decided to instead buy a PS4 and the Remake. ;u; Animal Crossing can wait LOL

I've played I-VI, X, XII, all the FFCC barring the Wii one and any I may have never learned about, Explorers, Bravely Default which is kind of one but also not
I have X-2 due to it and X coming together technically on one cartridge

Yeah X and X-2 are also bundled together on Steam.

I have them on Switch
And while X is already on the cartridge, X-2 has a code and needs to be downloaded

Plus a half day cuz I didn't realize my Switch wasn't plugged in so it died on me, forcing it to start over

I'm following a guide particularly for those trial places because they're confusing and it mentioned a thing called the Jecht Shot and save scumming to get it right and I'm too lazy
Also the change from the level system is a bit confusing

It's ok, I was late to the FF fandom and tried out a few of them back in 2009ish or so but a few years ago finally bought VII and VIII on Steam and it's taking me FOREVER to finish them. ;_;

But I am almost done with VII and want to finish it before the Remake comes out!! I got to Safer Sephiroth but he hit me with Super Nova and then killed my party. D: So I'm gonna prepare better for that battle next time. Good thing the save crystal works on the Steam version and doesn't glitch. ;u;

I am VERY late to the Final Fantasy Fandom. xD I only began playing FFX HD Remaster a couple years ago. Although I'm still new to it, :] I enjoy it quite a lot!

Ooh, the free demo for FFVII Remake is available for download on the PS4 btw! :D
Was watching my brother play through it yesterday. ^_^
