The Artists' Backroom [OPEN]

...I dropped my colored pencils everywhere. Don't slip and fall.

Start of the semester, but I might have time to scribble some stuff. If you post in here, I might draw you. Or someone else might.

(Join me in my scribbling!)

*wiggles in like an awkward caterpillar*
Can't slip and fall if you're already on the ground...

Death by Mirrors 08-14-2018 04:01 PM

Very logical thought. Two thumbs up!

I have a certain fondness for monochrome gradients.

...This is very true.

Derpy McBlueEyes 08-14-2018 10:31 PM

"Colowing!" Derpy grabs as many colored pencils as he can hold and starts doodling on every available surface.

Please don't. Some of us are old and this sorta thing makes it hard for us to read stuff.

Kaderin Triste 08-15-2018 01:13 AM

(And some of us also have tiny mobile screens on top of being old and/or having bad eyes)
Ah, the lime green to cyan lettering is kind of tough for me, especially on the light green/teal background of quotes...

bluebird 08-15-2018 01:23 AM

ok don't bring back that 08 aesthetic (´. ω .`)

Kaderin Triste 08-15-2018 01:27 AM

I mean, I'm all for the 08 gradient text being brought back (I used to live for those tbh), just maybe keep those of us with bad eyes in mind when choosing text colors?

bluebird 08-15-2018 01:38 AM

ok don't bring back some of that 08 aesthetic (´・ω・ )

No actual classes yet but my wallet already hurts. My aunt had a mixed pack of pencils that her grandkids weren't interested in so too bad for them! I'm playing with the water colour pencil crayons now. Never tried. Kinda neat.

Might have gotten some looks when I was dipping things in my glass of water at the pub.

It's practically an artist's job to stare at things. And get stared at.

Quiet Man Cometh 08-15-2018 04:12 AM

I did get a comment from the server about being an "artist," and some admiring of my red umbrella, because I felt like sketching this one red umbrella on the outside patio. I picked up a new mini-sketchook but have yet to actually do any of the sketches I planned on. I did some stuff though. Mundanity!

...sounds about right.

Quiet Man Cometh 08-19-2018 10:25 PM

Well I haven't done anything actually related to the event but here's a Syrgei attempt on my tablet before I realized the drivers were probably out of date so pressure sensitivity wasn't working. Looks like Sharpie:

Don't mind the giant GW2 hp dot that is there because I got mad at his legs.

Espy 08-20-2018 04:52 AM

Ooh. I like his little ponytail going FWOOSH.

KittyBeary 08-20-2018 05:09 AM

Ooohh I might draw someone! ouo I'm feelin' artsy

Espy 08-22-2018 03:15 AM

I keep pulling out my sketchbook and then drawing other things. Blah.

Death by Mirrors 08-22-2018 03:19 AM

At least you're drawing something. That's a lot better than complete procrastination in my opinion.

KittyBeary 08-22-2018 04:53 AM

Well, first I need to gather more paper and then I'll get to drawing... but I'm being lazy atm uwu

tsukiko 08-22-2018 09:11 AM

*pops head in, slips on all the arting supplies on the floor, cracking my ankle finally* =___= hi all. i wish i could draw some of you all, but computer's in storage...everything is in storage. *cries in pain*

Quiet Man Cometh 08-23-2018 05:20 AM

I sat down with the intention of sketching...
I even have two methods of doing. I'll get at least a cursory sketch done (how bad is it that I seem to have gone from drawing to sketching to easy sketching?).

Witchchylde 08-23-2018 10:36 PM

I do the "I'm gonna draw today" a couple of times a week, but I tire so easily that I get very little done.

I mean, learning how to just sketch instead of attempting to make every drawing a finished work is very important.

Den 08-24-2018 02:57 AM

My main thing to work on is not pressing down so hard... on sketchpads, for a few pages after a drawing, you can feel what I was drawing.

Quiet Man Cometh 08-24-2018 06:14 AM

Softer pencils?

I find I'm the sort that just keeps going with a sketch, until it does wind up looking somewhat finished. Then I need to get a fixative or something because smearing.

And I did a couple character sketches today! My wrist is angry at me. Still want to catch up on the drawing I *intended* to do while I was out walking two weeks ago. I do have pictures at least.

Den 08-24-2018 06:29 PM

even with softer pencils, I press too hard.

Quiet Man Cometh 08-25-2018 03:06 AM

Quiet Man Cometh 08-25-2018 04:48 AM

I'm actually sketching today, the thing I intended to sketch so working by hand. Easier I find than working with my tablet as far as wrist strain.

Quiet Man Cometh 08-25-2018 04:41 PM

Ah, crud. How do I fix a *^$&-up with black watercolour pencil crayon?

At least I'm working on something I planned to do. Needs more work though. Anyone else ever feel like their sketch books is unbalanced if there are too many works in one medium clunked off from others?

Espy 08-28-2018 02:42 AM

That is a Good Salad Boy

Also I only ever work in pen/pencil, sooooo.

Quiet Man Cometh 08-28-2018 05:14 AM

The facial contour is entirely accidental and noticed after the fact.

Water colour pencil crayon error is probably beyond fixing, as I went and used a black pencil to draw a bridle browband on a Belgian horse, and put it in the wrong spot, follow my sketched eye-line instead of my sketch band line. Oops.

I made a third attempt at Syrgei but worked his face a little too much with repeated drawing and erasing and when he started to enter awkward John Lennon territory I abandoned ship.
