Nostalgia Center! (Children of the 90's)

If you were a child of the late 80's or early 90's please stop in. Here is a place for you to remember old cartoons/shows that were exclusive to this era. I'm not just talking about old Disney or Nickelodeon Shows, I'm talking about whatever you can remember.

You don't need to remember the name, just a general description. Maybe someone else knows the show and can help you out, or maybe you'd just like to reminisce about the good old days. Either way, come on in and lets chat about our childhoods. :)

For me, Nickelodeon was a big staple of my Childhood, but there's a few shows that were like on PBS that I remember also. Of course the typical Seasame Street, and Mr. Rodgers's Neighborhood. There was also Wishbone and The Magic School Bus.

I remember this one program though, that with the help of the internet I was able to get it's name. It was kind of on the same vein as Seasame Street, but it had less puppets and one person instead of many. And instead of teaching numbers/letters he sang songs. I forgot the name now, but it was Something to do with a secret forest.

THere was also "The Elephant Show with Sharon, Lois, and Bram" with the infamous "Skinnamarinky dinky dink, skinnamarinky do..." song. Whatever that meant.

Please share with my your experiences and shows you watched as a kid :)

Claire Bear 11-16-2017 04:06 PM

yes i am a 90s kid i member all that

Crystalkitsune85 11-16-2017 04:14 PM

Are there any other shows that I didn't list you remember? One that was your favorite or stands out more than any other?

Tiva 11-16-2017 04:16 PM

Hocus Pocus…
I remember seeing Sean Murray on NCIS and going 'That is the cat dude from Hocus Pocus' My mom thought I was insane….

Crystalkitsune85 11-16-2017 04:20 PM

You know I do that a lot lately. I'll see programs with people in them. Mostly programs like NCIS, or CSI and be like "Hey that guy/girl was in ___". It's actually kinda fun. What's not fun is when you KNOW you've seen them and you have to figure out who they are so you can stalk their IMDB page XD

Kaderin Triste 11-16-2017 09:24 PM

I was mainly a Disney kid. I remember all the old movies. Rip Girls, Johnny Tsunami, Xenon, The Thirteenth Year, ect.
Those were the best!

Crystalkitsune85 11-16-2017 09:55 PM

Oh yeah those awesome movies they'd bring out every month. Zoog Disney and their countdown of top ten songs. Dancing/singing to Bye Bye Bye, and What a Girl Wants.

Kaderin Triste 11-17-2017 12:56 AM

The music videos during commercial breaks too! I'm pretty sure I have a couple vhs with old commercials and ads for Boy Meets World (which I actually own the full series of on dvd)

Crystalkitsune85 11-17-2017 02:11 AM

You know what's soo strange. I have a tape of Hook, the one with Robin Williams (RIP) and it was taped off of TV meaning there are commercials ALSO from that age. It's so weird watching that and seeing the commercials that were popular from that time. Like McDonalds and Taco Bell commercials @_@

Quiet Man Cometh 11-17-2017 03:41 AM

I might be a titch too early for this. My sister and I on the dividing line between Gen x and Y. I remember Hocus Pocus (barely. I think I just wasn't a fan of the show). Mr. Roger's Neighbourhood was certainly a thing (though not as cool as Mr. Dressup!) and I remember The Elephant Show as well, along with Captain Kangaroo if we are really going back. Wee memories of Care Bears and My Little Pony as well. I remember more Nickelodeon than Disney. There was this game show with a giant pyramid thing that I think was Nickelodeon.

Cartoons that I actually recall watching beyond some old miscellany in my brain were things like Rugrats, Rocko's Modern Life, and Doug. I still remember the intros for Ghostwriter, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and Goosebumps.

Quiet Man Cometh 11-17-2017 03:52 AM

Oh, I opened the box.

Saved by the Bell
Home Improvement
Full House

I forgot these until I actually started leafing through IMDB.

Yeah, apologies to those of you who weren't born yet for this stuff.

Crystalkitsune85 11-17-2017 05:25 AM

I didn't get the Disney channel until it got off paid programming. We'd get like month-long stints occasionally as a preview and then we'd go recording happy and pull off all the movies. Like Not Quite Human, Still Not quite Human, we got a bunch of other movies we probably still have laying around on VHS gathering dust. I remember like Under the Umbrella tree, which was on Disney, And Fraggle Rock which they recently brought back.

I actually never saw Carebears, but I liked the stuffed animals they had, and I wanted one once. I didn't see the old MLP either. I remember Saved by the Bell, and Full house and of course Home Improvement, though with those, as well as Boy Meets World and Sister Sister, they replay them as reruns on whatever channel.

But for like super obscure shows that you'll have to delve into Youtube to find em, like Zoobliezoo or Eureka's Castle. Old gems of shows that only our kid brains enjoyed and our adult brains are like...da fuq?

Awen Moonshine 11-17-2017 06:27 AM

I was born in 1990 in the UK so my memory of TV shows is probably very different from yours... ^_^;;

My memory has blocked out most of m childhood, but I remember watching shows Like Brum, Pokemon, Digimon, Cardcaptors, Thomas the Tank Engine, Ivor the Engine, Mr Benn, Kipper, Fingermouse, Thunderbirds, Stingray, Captain Scarlett to name a few that I loved over the years ^_^;;

I still have a lot of love for all these shows although not so much for the revamped versions that have been released in recent years...

Crystalkitsune85 11-17-2017 06:40 AM

I watched Pokemon and Cardcaptors more than Digimon. Most of those were on, on Saturday mornings and I liked to sleep in XD. The rest must be region specific type thing like you said because nothing else but Thomas the Tank engine sounds familiar. And I don't think I even watched that much.

Claire Bear 11-17-2017 03:33 PM

i had carebears video tapes.

i think most of those movies were made in the 80s?

does anyone else remember Skydancers or Princess Gwenevire and The Jewel Riders?
video for your nostaligia

Claire Bear 11-17-2017 03:35 PM

oh and how many of you started on the internet with Palace dolls? That definately started in the late 90s.

Espy 11-17-2017 04:16 PM

There's this one show that I have a couple very strong memories of, and I used to remember the songs from it, but now I can't even remember the title? Ugh, there was this one episode with farm animals or something, gonna go see if I can find it.

Awen Moonshine 11-17-2017 04:26 PM

Most of the shows I mentioned were on BBC or ITV before they got their own dedicated kids channels.

I remember Skydancers as being a thing (vaguely) but I don't think I ever watched the show... I seem to remember that I had one of the dolls that you could pull a ripcord and make it fly though...

I started on the internet with Neopets and Bebo. ^_^;;

Espy 11-17-2017 04:28 PM

LAMB CHOP'S PLAY ALONG

Aha, that was the one. I didn't watch much TV as a kid; preferred reading. Some other ones I vaguely remember:
PB&J Otter
Rolie Polie Olie
Bear in the Big Blue House
Out of the Box
Wishbone

Kaderin Triste 11-17-2017 05:40 PM

Ah, Skydancers! I owned one and it was pink and glittery and my brother's dog got a hold of it and chewed on the wings. It still worked though.
XD
I remember being jealous of my friend who owned Polly Pocket sets (the super tiny ones that you kept losing the people from) and my little pony toys, and several real Tamagotchi, not the cheap knockoff versions.

Crystalkitsune85 11-17-2017 05:48 PM

Woo so many posts since I was here last <3

And yes we can throw out toys too if you want! I had...so many toys lol. Lets see if I can remember a few. Oh! Recently I was actually talking to a friend about these ones. They were called Yum Yums. They were these stuffed animals (like teddy bears) that were all different species. There were cats, bears, dogs, bunnies, and each one had a specific candy theme and smell. I had the Peppermint Cat, and the Jelly bean rabbit. I think some Japanese company bought them out recently? Because I saw some newer versions of them online.

Also I find it SUPER funny how toy companies have taken the stuff from our childhoods and changed to look shittier and sell them to kids today. Good examples: Polly pocket. (Choking hazards back then so they had to make her bigger) Carebears (I actually think there was a new movie for them recently?)
Of course My Little Pony (Which I'm not too sad about because I never really was into the old MLP so yeah.) THen there's a reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Littlest Pet Shop toys were so much cuter back in the 90's. Now they just make their heads bigger to make em more "appealing?". It's the same with movies actually now that I think about it. Most of the movies out today are remakes of existing movies. Or Sequels to SUPER old movies that nobody gives a shit about to see a sequel to....like Dumb and Dumber Too.

Claire Bear 11-17-2017 06:44 PM

oh i had loaaads of polly pockets
for your nostalgia: http://www.onlypollypocket.com/
catalogue of all the old sets : )

soooo smoll and cute, i miss them.

what about doodle bears, yall have doodle bears? sister and me each had one those were hype.

Crystalkitsune85 11-17-2017 06:50 PM

Oh yeah! I had a Doodle bear! I had one until my dog desecrated it. Then a few years later I got a Doodle bear Mini which I think I still have somewhere? Missing an eye though XD.

Den 11-17-2017 11:06 PM

I had Polly Pockets, a Tamagotchi, a Doodle Bear, a crapton of Barbies and Disney dolls...

Crystalkitsune85 11-17-2017 11:54 PM

I always made my Barbies naked. I mean who didn't really. But I also chopped all their hair off. I accidentally cleared the face off my Pocahontas doll, because I used some nail polish remover to get some marker off of her and the whole face went off. I didn't know that could happen XD

Den 11-18-2017 12:58 AM

I had quite a few bald barbies... and nowadays, I deliberately use nail polish to take off face paint. I'm a customizer. :3

Crystalkitsune85 11-18-2017 01:06 AM

ooo you know I see a few OOAK doll makers do like the Monster High doll. Make em look better. There was one I saw did like those limited edition ones too. Like Audrie Hepburn and I think there was one of Marilyn Monroe too. It's insane the detail I saw on those things. They look super awesome! Do you do stuff like that?"

Awen Moonshine 11-18-2017 05:04 AM

I remember being super jealous of those that had Polly Pockets too! I remember having a Beyblade and being disappointed that it wasn't like in the cartoon XD My next door neighbour had a Furby that I would have killed for but in hindsight it was probably for the best that I didn't have one. I remember having the Sky Dancer doll, original MLP ponies, Weebles, Barbies and some Action Men (these were mostly hand me downs from my auntie and uncle) plus some (brand new at the time) Disney dolls, first series Pokemon cards and a ton of board games.

Crystalkitsune85 11-18-2017 05:11 AM

I still have my old Pokemon cards. I was a collector when they first come out...to a point. And be glad you didn't have a Furby...those things turned into the spawn of Satan when their batteries went low. I was woken up in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, to this loud alarm type sound going off. It was coming from my Furby. I ripped the batteries out of that thing, shoved it back into it's box and threw it into the closet. I still have it actually....still in it's box...dead.

Awen Moonshine 11-18-2017 07:27 AM

Lol. Yeah that's what happened to my neighbours one too. I still had my original Pokemon cards up until a couple of years ago when I sold my rares to get some funds to buy my daughter some new clothes... ^_^;;

Claire Bear 11-18-2017 03:15 PM

my furby kept talking after we took the batteries out of it i swear too god i dont trust those things

Crystalkitsune85 11-18-2017 04:16 PM

Spawn of Satan. I actually had two. We got them at a flea market. One was white and the other one was grey/pink with spots. The second one was 'my mom's' but she said she didn't want it really so I sold it at the booth we had at the flea market. I can believe there are people that collect the older ones like they did with Beanie Babies. I still have all my Beanie Babies, up in a box in the closet.

Awen Moonshine 11-18-2017 05:07 PM

Oh gods I have my beanie babies still too! Most of the animals got taken by my nan for the small children in our family... I still have the bears and my few favourite animals though like Scorch which was my first ever beanie given to me by my auntie ^_^

Crystalkitsune85 11-18-2017 05:13 PM

One of the Beanie Babies I have shares the same birthday I do. It's like one of the rainbow iguanas. But one of my favorites is Mystic the Unicorn.

Kaderin Triste 11-18-2017 09:00 PM

I finally took all my beanie babies to goodwill a couple years ago. They were pretty much in poor condition and not really worth much. And since they were just taking up space in a tub, I got rid of them. Scorch and Kooky were the hardest two to part with though.

Oh, guys! At my work, we have mystery boxes with mini nostalgia toys in them! Stuff like etch-a-sketch, magic 8 ball, Rubiks cube, etc. So I bought a couple. I'm really hoping for the magic 8 ball, but will be okay getting almost everything. Except maybe the hot wheels car and the phone car toy ones. XD
Who wants a big reveal when I get off work? Lol

Crystalkitsune85 11-18-2017 10:47 PM

Sure! I love grab bag type things. It's always fun to see what you get!

Kaderin Triste 11-19-2017 12:26 AM

Almost out of work. Will do photo reveals of boxes shortly!
(Would do video of the reveal, but the sound of my recorded voice makes me cringe plus I am super awkward and never know what to say. And don't have a decent way to record video.

Crystalkitsune85 11-19-2017 12:45 AM

Xsplit is the best way to capture video. It's free too. I use that for my video recording for YOutube.

Kaderin Triste 11-19-2017 12:53 AM

No, but I mean like I don't have a webcam or a stand for my phone or anything, so it would be really shaky footage of me filming and trying to open shit one-handed.

Kaderin Triste 11-19-2017 12:59 AM

Also, item reveal:
