Secret Santa

Sorry, this might be the wrong place to ask this...but I wanted to know if it would be alright to maybe do a Secret Santa during the winter event with both an online option (art, quest items, story, etc.) and a real life version (actually mailing presents)?

It was done once on a different site and was a lot of fun, so I thought it could be fun to try here.

Gallagher 11-04-2017 03:05 PM

yes

but the secret is everyone is getting gifts for me

Glitch 11-04-2017 03:10 PM

oh oh and me! don't forget me!

Gallagher 11-04-2017 03:25 PM

yes, everyone is getting gifts for me and glitch

except mdom who has to send ari something rainbow lol

Kaderin Triste 11-04-2017 06:13 PM

And Derpy. Derpy needs presents.
XD
10/10 perfect!

Illusion 11-05-2017 02:59 AM

*plans secret Santa*
...
*actually all gifts are for me*

Tiva 11-05-2017 12:23 PM

*raises hand* I wanna do Secret Santa!!!

mdom 11-06-2017 08:59 AM

I APPROVE OF THIS!!
(sending something rainbow to Ari, that is)

XoGizmooX 11-07-2017 06:21 PM

-writes a list-

Isis 11-07-2017 08:06 PM

I'd be up for a secret santa.
Don't know if I'd do an irl thing because I don't want strangers to know where I live lol, but an online one would be fun.

Den 11-07-2017 08:33 PM

Isis, you can always have 'em send it to General Delivery at your local post office, and pick it up there.

Kaderin Triste 11-07-2017 08:58 PM

Well, there's always Den's suggestion, but also there will definitely be an online version as well. I understand that not everyone is comfortable sharing their address.

Mekatra 11-14-2017 07:12 PM

I would be 100% all for an online version, but not a live version right now.

Crystalkitsune85 11-16-2017 06:20 AM

I wouldn't mind an online one. Those are great for giving people stuff they REALLY want anonymously. They had a similar thing on a site called Magistream. You would get gifted eggs under a tree that was on your page. You didn't know what you got until Christmas Day, when you opened your boxes. It was pretty fun.

Kaderin Triste 11-17-2017 06:35 PM

I don't know about what the actual staff might have planned, but I do plan on having both rl and online versions. I definitely can't do anything as fancy as Magistream's (though it does sound pretty awesome!), but it should be pretty fun still.

Hopefully. I have a lot of planning to do to get it all prepared.

Crystalkitsune85 11-17-2017 06:42 PM

I think for the Christmas season (if the admins/owners can do it) make it so there's an option to send people things without the trade function. So essentially gifting. But also make it anonymous and unable to open until Christmas. Also does this site have an Advent Calander planned while we were on the same vein?

Kaderin Triste 11-17-2017 06:59 PM

Based on last year's event, I'm gonna guess no on the Advent Calendar. But gifting would be a really nice feature (even without the time restriction option), and I think might be a feature that it possibly being worked on. I don't always keep up with the features being added, but I feel like gifting has been discussed and requested a few times.

Crystalkitsune85 11-17-2017 09:47 PM

I wouldn't think it'd be an all the time feature, just something to be used for the Holiday :)

XoGizmooX 11-17-2017 09:53 PM

Last year Trisphee had a secret Santa we signed up on a list Glitch paired us up and we sent avi stuff to her and she sent them out and then we can reveal names after IF WE WANTED TO

Derpy McBlueEyes 11-17-2017 10:45 PM

Crystalkit: I actually think a year round gifting option would be great. For sure.

Gizzie: Oh, I totally forgot about that! I mean, if a staff member wants to do an online Secret Santa again, I totally am okay with them handling that one. XD
Less for me to manage that way...

Death by Mirrors 11-18-2017 05:04 AM

While I think a real life version could be fun, I'm at the same time unsure if I would actually participate. Not so much because I worry about my address (I do have a post box for such reason), but because shipping costs tend to be insane here. Online makes for a good alternative, especially if staff releases a gifting function ^^

Crystalkitsune85 11-18-2017 05:15 AM

Yeah online version is safer and cheaper XD. I will hopefully be sending stuff to friends I know that I've met online and talked to for a while, but since I'm usually low on funds I'll be happy with online stuff lol.

XoGizmooX 11-18-2017 01:25 PM

We can mail Christmas cards they should not be that much to mail even far away o. O or at least I think

Glitch 11-18-2017 02:39 PM

Trisphee doesn't celebrate Chritmassss but rather just celebrates winter with the Festival of Frost etc. etc. which is why I would suppose there isn't an advent calendar. I mean granted, I don't know what i'm talking about but that is what I've assumed is the case ouo

Gallagher 11-18-2017 03:09 PM

too much christmas makes me extremely uncomfortable

gifts are cool tho

Kaderin Triste 11-18-2017 03:21 PM

Yes yes, we've already made it very clear that not everyone is comfortable with dharing addresses and also that THERE WILL be an online one as well.
At this point, I'm really more curious to know if there are even enough people interested in an rl one to make it worth my time to bother setting it up.

(Sorry, I realize this sounds pissy. I'm just tired.)

Oh, and also, if a lot of people are hesitant because of shipping costs, I could add or downgrade gift exchange to card swap or something.

Tiva 11-19-2017 09:17 AM

It is more like money is tight and I am lazy. I am online gift things in minutes to get things there before a date means I have to plan, buy, and ship days in advance.

mdom 11-19-2017 09:33 AM

cards is cool because we can personalize them a ton ^^
also I still don't know who's my last year super charitable santa T^T

Kaderin Triste 11-19-2017 02:13 PM

I feel like I'm slowly losing my will to run this. It started off as a cool idea and now is just "well, gotta change x, gotta repeat y a ton, gotta change x again" and it's losing it's fun. XP
(Yes, I'm sure this sounds whiny. Again, very tired.)

Mdom, Gizzie, and others interested in card swap: Would you prefer to just be assigned one person or just have like a free-for-all where you get a full list and kust do however many you want?

I think international stamps run around $1.15-$1.30? Not too much.

*takes a deep breath*

Okay, I have been Bitchy McBitcherson lately. Sorry 'bout that.
Basically what I'm getting from feedback is that:
1-2 people actually interested in rl gift exchange
lots of people interested in online gift exchange (which I was already planning on doing anyway)
a few people interested in a card swap because shipping is too pricey for them currently/they can't really afford actual gift plus shipping

One question that I haven't asked yet. If the people interested in a card swap or irl gifting don't mind, could I send them a small gift anyway? Nothing big or fancy. Just something small and simple?

Aww are you sending Derpy to me for holiday break :p-grin:

Kaderin Triste 11-21-2017 08:05 PM

Nooo! I can't live without my Derpy! But I do have a box of felt I've been meaning to send. And it has just enough room for a small present or two still...
;D

KittyBeary 11-22-2017 12:35 AM

I've done RL Secret Santas in the past couple years, and they were fun. ;u; Might be up for that on here this time. :)

Also an online one would be fun, too. xD

Derpy McBlueEyes 11-22-2017 01:57 AM

Derpy waddles by, dragging a bag full of clear plastic ornaments and paints of various colors and styles. "I wanna send pwesents!"

I should have put a poll on this thread. I feel like the quantity of people who can afford to and feel comfortable doing an rl exchange are small enough that it might not happen. Although I am not opposed to at least having the option. Even if it's only 3 people, it would still be fun.

Boris 11-22-2017 02:40 AM

If I had the money, sure! I'd love to do a real life secret Santa! I can only do an online secret santa, though. I MIGHT be able to do a card... if I can get work in time.
