Carnival Con Quiz [guess the right answer!]

Come one, come all, to this Carnival of Wonders! Do you think you can compete with the smartest minds of the faire? Then try your skills on a quiz that will make your head spin and your brain fume. But be warned: our questions are strange and our answers even stranger - so maybe a good lie takes you much further than a boring truth...

How it works
  • A random question will be posted in this thread.
  • You now have at least 24 hours to come up with a great answer. To clarify: Even if you happen to know the actual answer, creative wrong answers is what this stage is about. PM your answer to me.
  • Once the time limit is over, all answers get posted, including the correct one.
  • Now each visitor can vote once in this thread or by PM for the answer they think is true.
  • You are not allowed to vote for your own submitted answer.
  • However you can try to guess the right one even if you didn't submit an answer before.
  • The right answer is worth 20 points
  • You will also score 20 points for each person who falls for your bluff.

Current Question

Current question open to guess
What happened to the mummy of Ramses II when it was sent to France in the mid-1970s?
  1. He was issued his own passport for the flight.
  2. He ended up on the wrong plane.
  3. He got damaged, the museum officials tried to fix the damage, and ended up making it worse.
  4. Since it is actually legal to marry a dead person in France, a secretary of the museum asked for permission to marry Ramses.
  5. The mummy inadvertently got switched with that of Hatshepsut, but Cairo officials decided not to inform France to avoid the bureaucratic hassle of exchanging mummies.

While we're all waiting for the suspense to build up and answers to roll in behind the scenes, you're welcome to chat here. Grab a hammock, have some ice cream and enjoy this little retreat. Who knows how long it will stay quiet after all

Tiva 06-17-2017 10:52 PM

*pokes* Don't forget to get your permits Death.

Death by Mirrors 06-18-2017 08:36 AM

Thanks for the reminder ^^

Come one, come all - still approximately 12 more hours to come up with funny, strange, crazy or downright weird answers! What makes that postbox special?

Death by Mirrors 06-19-2017 08:50 AM

Alright, voting round has begun! Everyone is invited to guess what the right answer may be. Meanwhile, a new question awaits your funny, clever or downright weird bluffs - make up an answer and pm it to me. A gift... what could it be?

And what is so special about that postbox now?

mdom 06-19-2017 11:01 AM

Do we guess here or via PM, too?
Also, let me think of a good answer for the new question...

Death by Mirrors 06-19-2017 12:30 PM

I was thinking here in the thread (since that gives you an excuse to post, which in return gives you tickets), but I will also count PM guesses. The main reason I'm collecting answers by PM is so nobody is going to know who wrote what ^^

mdom 06-19-2017 01:43 PM

OOOH true.
We can come discuss afterwards, I guess xD

Death by Mirrors 06-19-2017 05:40 PM

That's right. Plus the recent question is going to change over time, so there's another incentive to check back. Also:

Gliding Mask!

What's this? Someone threw a Matinee Mysterious Mask in the air.

First person to quote it gets it for free.

First person to quote it gets it for free.

Very tempted to be a butt and quote only 'it' xD

Death by Mirrors 06-20-2017 06:23 AM

Oh sweet temptation.

The mask has been caught, but there's still a few hours left for the rest of you to vote on the right answer and score some tickets. Or send me gifts. Er, I mean, suggestions for what the Russian gift might have been.

Den 06-20-2017 10:19 PM

Guess for the Post Office box: It's underwater.

Death by Mirrors 06-21-2017 07:45 AM

And that's correct! You guys sure know your mail.

Have some free tickets on me - sorry if they arrive wet, I was trying to send them right from Susami Bay. New question is up, and I've also changed the bluff points from 10 to 20. We got some nice answers there, so what do you think unites nations even better than a bottle of Vodka?

Tiva 06-21-2017 10:53 AM

Is it weird I think it is the reindeer? They are Native to Russia right?

mdom 06-21-2017 12:50 PM

No, they're native to Lapland!!!
(totally serious answer)

Death by Mirrors 06-21-2017 03:43 PM

They're also treated with reflective paint these days, mainly on the antlers.
(also totally serious answer)

Tiva 06-21-2017 03:47 PM

I mean Lapland borders Russia?
Reindeer are in Russia

Per Google

Death by Mirrors 06-21-2017 04:04 PM

Step aside, Rudolph - you're getting some fierce competition!

http://i63.tinypic.com/aooxti.jpg

Certainly one needs light in a submarine... but wouldn't a reindeer sooner or later eat the navigation charts? What do you think, guys and gals... was that the famous gift? Or something else entirely? Get your guess in!

Den 06-21-2017 08:54 PM

I'm gonna refrain from sending in an answer for the current question, because I actually know the answer, and I wanna give other people a chance to earn points.

mdom 06-22-2017 01:39 AM

I was kidding about my answer xDD they might be from Russia, I wouldn't know.

Death by Mirrors 06-22-2017 04:20 AM

Den, you can always send your answer in pm. That way others won't know what you picked. But there certainly will be more questions.

Death by Mirrors 06-23-2017 05:50 AM

Ding-ding-ding, yet another round has passed! Did you get your guess in? Did you vote for chocolate? If so, you were... wrong.

Strange as it may sound, they really kept a reindeer on board. And rumor has it, once Pollyanna's barrel of moss ran out, she mostly dined on leftovers, but did indeed eat a navigation chart at some point.

The taxidermy moose head was a wonderful answer, albeit a bluff from Den, and as such is worth 20 points.

Congratulations to everyone who got the right answer or successfully got someone else to believe theirs! Will you be just as lucky with the next question?

mdom 06-23-2017 09:10 AM

Aw man have you guys even watched psycho
there were great answers like
first to show an assassination on-screen
first to show a man dressed as a woman
first to show a car drowning
(all made up by me, I have no idea if it was the first or not on those)
and one of you chose...
something that's not even on the movie that I was going to spoil here but I won't

Death by Mirrors 06-23-2017 11:33 AM

Interestingly, cross dressing in movies goes back as far as at least 1913, where an officer pretends to be a female cook so he can spend more time with a young woman. The Little House in Kolomna is a black and white Russian silent film based on a poem by Alexander Pushkin. The first full feature length films with a men dressed as a woman would appear somewhere in the 1940s, and for a more popular example, Some Like It Hot premiered roughly one year before Psycho.

Now that "Learn something new every day" time has passed... what answer do you guess?

Den 06-23-2017 10:13 PM

Psycho was the first movie to show a toilet flushing on screen.

Tiva 06-23-2017 10:18 PM

Psycho was also the first to show a non married couple in bed together post Coitus.
I have never seen the movie though cause I don't like horror and slasher films.

I'm not fond of the genre myself, but I was able to watch it without issue. It helped that I knew the blood in the iconic scene was actually chocolate syrup.

Death by Mirrors 06-24-2017 01:54 PM

Den is correct about the chocolate syrup, but there's still some time left before I'm going to reveal the right answer. So get your guesses in! ^^

Den 06-24-2017 06:27 PM

Just as a warning, I know a lot of really random things about a myriad of topics, and I have a weird sense of humor, so I might just send in answers to mess with people. Mwahaha. XD

Death by Mirrors 06-25-2017 04:19 AM

Psycho is definitely the first movie where you secretly want to lick the victim. :p-cool:
Because of the chocolate, I mean. Geez, all your dirty minds...

mdom 06-26-2017 01:38 AM

Ooh interesting fact about crossdressing...
I'll agree with Den just because it's a very random thing to be the first of.

Death by Mirrors 06-26-2017 09:21 AM

Alright, I'll throw your guesses down the toilet and flush... *ka-ching!* ding-ding-ding! Jackpot. It is completely random, completely silly, and completely right!

Next question coming up shortly.

mdom 06-26-2017 10:55 AM

I'm going to guess 1.
BUT I do have a finnish buddy whose screen name is a donald duck book so I'm really tempted to ask him. BUT I WON'T OK

Den 06-28-2017 07:24 PM

*wanders around, waiting for the right answer*

mdom 06-28-2017 07:34 PM

Poor Den, waited to so long... so long... the meat escaped the bones.

Death by Mirrors 06-29-2017 10:21 AM

Haha, oh my! Seems the right answer can be just as elusive as true love.

While a troublesome middle name sounds like a tempting idea, it's not what got Donald kicked out of kids' bedrooms. For those who didn't know, by the way, his official middle name is Fauntleroy, and to my knowledge it doesn't mean anything nasty in another language.

No, in this particular case he was banned for his lack of proper clothing, aka pants.

mdom 06-29-2017 03:04 PM

What a silly thing to ban him for! Not like he had any dangly bits to show...

XoGizmooX 06-29-2017 05:22 PM

His quackers were showing lol

XoGizmooX 06-29-2017 05:23 PM

Or his butt quack >.<
