Toho's Secret Project: New Shops!

http://trisphee.com/shops/

I've been working on an OMG SEEKRET project for, oh, I guess a month now. It's still in progress and definitely not done, but it is actually usable now, so I've decided (on consultation with Galla) that it is time to make this "Open Beta"!

Trisphee Shops have been old and ugly for a long time. It's sad. We have so many wonderful items, but it's always been rather hard to go through them. (100 pages in a shop? no thank you!)

No more!
  • The new shops now group items by what they are, so that you can choose between which color set you want to buy. Much easier to sort through!

  • Item display is thoroughly updated, with bigger areas for seeing the poses, plus an actual clarity of what types of poses they are.

  • Previews are much improved, allowing you to view the object alone, on your current avatar, on your naked avatar, or on a mannequin.

  • There is a new option to buy all the color versions of an item at once, in case you just cant' decide, or are like a Pokemon Trainer of avatar items.

  • The shops use a new navigation logic, with stylish new appearances.

Well.

I'd like to call it stylish new appearances. I am many things, but a graphics designer I am not. The main thing that is incomplete about the shops right now is the appearance. There is a huge amount of refinement and alteration that still needs to be done to make this whole thing look like a brand new, beautiful item shop for all to go through. Some art assets are missing (like shop buttons and shop headers unique to the specific shops), and links for things like buying are still just links, not pretty buttons.

Much will still change about the shops appearances, but the overall structure should remain the same, and the functionality is all present.

Hopefully everyone can agree with my opinion that these new shops, incomplete as they are, are much better than the old shops.

If you have any thoughts, suggestions for improvements, or other things to express about the new shops, please do not hesitate to do so! I'll be making periodic updates to the shops (probably once a day), and I will say what I've changed in this thread.

Changelog!

*teary eyes*

IT'S SO MUCH CLEANER!

Now the tabs just need to be beautified a bit more (may I suggest making logos for each store.)

And for the buy all colors button, show how much that would all cost. <-- The only real thing that needs to be done right away.

Tohopekaliga 11-15-2015 05:10 PM

Yes, I will definitely have a price listed for Buy All soon.

As for logos...I want the buttons in the menu to have shop logos, as well as the big, very plain, header. A bigger, fancier one.

Of course, my art skills are limited (I do have them), so it may be a while before we have actual shop logos and headers, as I mentioned in the first post. :)

... *HUGS TOHO* Oh goodness, it's so tidy! This makes things SO much easier!

Lawtan 11-15-2015 06:32 PM

...I didn't know about so many items (Adam, Fractured Fairy Tale. Anka Tee)
This is by far more manageable ^^

Tohopekaliga 11-15-2015 06:51 PM

I, too, had no idea about several of them. I never wanted to page through 100 pages of Body Shop to know. :P Kinda a bad thing to admit for me, but, there ya go.

Also, A big thank you goes out to Galla, who actually took the time to sort the items. I did the Salon, and that took a long while...She did the rest, rather quickly, and it was amazing.

Gallagher 11-15-2015 09:29 PM

Yeah, I want to say I got it done in... 2 days or something? I don't know, you'd have to ask someone that actually watches me work, lol. Definitely one of my favorite repetitive tasks to date.

I made store logos if you want them.

All but yearly store, but I heard you guys wanted to combine the yearly store with Archaic Antiquities. (Which makes sense in the long run. >.>)

I made the logos in the smallish medium range in case they needed to be scaled down.

edit: This was very minimal effort to do. If you want something remade/tweaked I can do it.

Coda 11-15-2015 11:29 PM

Those are... actually pretty good.

CupcakeDolly 11-15-2015 11:43 PM

Ahhh, they're so much easier to look through now!! owo So many things I never even knew existed!!

Cool, thank you. :) These will do for now, although something slightly fancier may be in order eventually.

I can send you guys the .psd file if you want them.

I was going to make a comment that the Menu of the shops, although much better on the eyes, just seems way too plain and boring. If those images were exchanged for these, that would be so much better and more RPG-like.

Also, clicking on the store... I'm not a fan of the arrangement there. I loathe small icons, especially bunched together like that... However, I love the "dressing room" style when you click on one of the items. Good job, guys.

Obsidian 11-16-2015 03:14 AM

Also, maybe a suggestion? >->

How about grouping colors together on a 1-click for the previews to reduce cluttering?

Bug: I can't currently purchase any "special" commons such as Sukeban Jacket, Cut Open Shirt, or London Jacked Dress. All of these types of items say "Invalid item specified" when trying to buy them. I believe it's because I'm not selecting a specific version of the item, as I can purchase ones with variations (Dark/Light HDE Lolita Garter Belts, for example) just fine.

Obsidian 11-16-2015 03:40 AM

Same, I just assumed cause I thought that page was a test-forum/shop spot so it wasn't exactly "active". >->

But now I see the "Open Beta" comment. ._.

If there's one thing Steam Early Access has taught me, it's that you can either pay a team lots of dollars to test something to work out all the bugs, or you can save yourself some money and release something as a beta, and people will find every possible issue and tell you about it for free.

That said, I am code illiterate and I am sure everything will be rectified in a timely and prompt manner. Because Toho is getting things done!

But no seriously I am finding tons of items that I never even knew we had.

Obsidian 11-16-2015 03:59 AM

Of course. ^-^

Here's another suggestion! Instead of text, some icons?
I did a horrid sample, but I'm sure you get the idea. X]

Gallagher 11-16-2015 04:00 AM

Yeah I found that same bug a few hours ago, thought it was just free items. Didn't think it was more than that, BUT APPARENTLY.

Edit: Ohhh, nice icons!

Gallagher 11-16-2015 04:29 AM

So, just so you all know, I've poked around the shops a bit and I'm pretty sure I have as much of an idea of what's going on as I can have without being a coder, lol.

So, as of right now, any item that isn't grouped isn't purchasable. Everything that is grouped, like items that come in the standard color sets or otherwise have a related variant, are all working fine.

If you select an item and the initial box says "Select a version you would like to preview and buy!" the item will work correctly. If it immediately shows you all the poses and gives you the normal "Buy now!" button (not the "Buy one of each version") then it is not purchasable in the new shop layout. You can, however, search for it in the old shops and purchase it as normal.

TOHO, I DID ALL THE WORK (AS USUAL UGH), NOW FIX IT.

Tohopekaliga 11-16-2015 09:07 AM

lol, working on it, Galla!

There is a lot of styling still missing, such as icons in the avatar preview. The ones you made there obsidian are pretty close to what I want. :)

And yes, these shops are still in development, that's why the shop link up top doesn't point to them yet. Bugs are still possible. Probable, even.

Plus the whole, "it's still slightly ugly and plain looking" thing.

While that's a nice idea, that is an intense amount of work to set up, so I don't think we'll be doing that.

I've got more to do today, but figured a quick bugfix would be in order: Single items are buyable now. I forgot to check them when I made a change to how I display the buy prompt recently.

Awen Moonshine 11-16-2015 12:18 PM

The only thing I can think of to possibly improve upon the new shops is maybe having something like a marker to show weather you already have an item or not. If you could implement that at some point that would be great! The shops are looking good though and are much easier to navigate and see everything. Thank you for your hard work guys! <3

Hero 11-16-2015 03:19 PM

Yesss its so wonderful that I can find things now
;-;

Tohopekaliga 11-16-2015 05:54 PM

:D Being able to find things was the main point of this.

Of course, that the shops also looked super old was a concern as well. But me being a programmer and not a designer means making it look good and professional takes extra time.

(Buy All now says how much it costs, and how many you're buying, but other things have distracted me today, so I didn't format it very prettily yet.)

That sucks because that's one of the most annoying things I find on this site and my suggestion was only towards the shop previews to reduce cluttering in the shops...

Tohopekaliga 11-16-2015 10:03 PM

Well, I hope that the way I've laid out the poses in the shops (sorted by gender) helps make it a little less cluttery from the old way. Sorting them into like color poses, however, involves going through every single item that does that, and grouping them up.

Naturally, most of the commons wouldn't need that, but there are still many, many items.

Illusion 11-17-2015 02:51 AM

Now that I'm thinking of it.

Would it be possible to dump images of older items (DI's, RIGS, ect.) into one shop-like format so people know what older items look like? Or a system similar to that that uses the current shop systems displays? That would probably be far more easier then taking a screenshot of every single pose. Not a dream avi creator but just a viewer.

Most items we're all already in the shops so I'm sure the previous files are still there. You could just start small and just slowly update it overtime.

Nothing that needs to be done immediately, but there's been far to many items in the past and no good record of them. Making buying older items confusing for newer members and I'm sure most old members (including me) don't remember every single item and pose.

The marketplace needs to be revived soon, but that's for a little later discussion.

Awen Moonshine 11-17-2015 04:27 AM

Oooo! I love the sound of that Illusion <3 Sort of like a past item museum. ^_^

I know that I's find it useful seeing as I know that a few of the older members here have got sales threads, but have basically just screenshot their inventory and while I's love to by some of their unwanted things, I don't know what most of the items are called, let alone what they look like... ^_^;;

As it happens, using the shop structure to provide an item guide is in my plans. :)

ml1201 11-18-2015 12:05 AM

Just a suggestion for if someone would like to do it, for the 'x' button when previewing the available colors, maybe make the 'x' an image of a sword and staff crossing to make the 'x'. I would just do silhouette of them though, but I figured this would go better with something adventure themed. x'D

Edit:
If you do back from a shop menu it seems to kind of glitch and just shows that shop with a blank page instead of the page that shows the links to all the shops. Refreshing does fix this, but figured I'd point this out.

Coda 11-18-2015 10:16 PM

It's coming! And this time we have momentum, so you can believe us when we say it's coming!

Tohopekaliga 11-18-2015 10:43 PM

I've got a big list of features, with time estimates and a general release schedule being sorted out right now, once I'm happy with it, I'll post it up in Trisphee Talk for all to see.

ml1201 11-18-2015 11:37 PM

Someone be sure to spam my profile wall about that, I tend not to look there in the forums. x'D Or else post about it in this thread. ^^;

Tohopekaliga 11-19-2015 05:58 PM

I added Illusion's shop icons in. :O Looking at it, I didn't align all of them especially well, gonna need to finagle it a bit. But hey, stuff is there, and it works. I also need to change menu colors some, I think.

(The most beautimus shop icon is hidden, so you'll have to see it via Galla's stream randomly. :P It was hand crafted by me.)

Lucid: 11-19-2015 06:20 PM

**peeks at hidden shop**
:O !
That shop icon is so gorgeous, Toho! I had no idea you were such a fabulous artist! Everybody better watch Galla's stream so they can see this marvelous work of artistic magic!

Gallagher 11-19-2015 06:24 PM

You know, I've actually heard rumors that some people wanted more screenshots posted.
