The Spoopiest Exchange around!

Hey everybody! How are those Jack-O'-Loots treating you? Gotten 100 of the same item?

Well! I have a solution for your woes!

Starting today, Trisphee has a new permanent feature, the Item Exchange!

You can visit the Exchange and swap one item for a random new one up to 5 times a day. For the moment, that's mostly limited to Jack-O'-Loot drops, as we assess exactly what all should be provided by the exchange. But this won't be going away at the end of the Halloween event, and you'll be able to gamble away your extra event items for shiny new things, if you so desire.

There's one other useful thing about the exchange you might find useful! You can donate any item in your inventory (except monthlies) to the Exchange, taking it right out of your inventory and clearing up your space. The item will be kept by the exchange, and may eventually be given out to another member in the future!

(That means, if you have unsellable items you don't want anymore, you can just give them directly to the exchange, and POOF! Gone! No mus, no fuss, no StaffMule involved!)

For the moment, the Exchange can be located under the "Games" heading up top, but that may change as we make more updates to the site.

I've added some of my personal item collection to the pool.

You're welcome, everyone.

Lawtan 10-30-2015 06:56 PM

O.O
Interesting...and impressive. I'll look at it :)

Donating a few...

Awen Moonshine 10-30-2015 07:12 PM

Great idea! Thank you for adding this feature! I've already added some items to the pool ^_^ Can't wait for it to be fully up and running ^_^

Duchess 10-30-2015 07:26 PM

I'm curious about the circulation of donated items.

Is there a way to "go dumpster diving" through people's donated items?
Can we donate super old event items that will never be in circulation again so that lucky newbies can have a chance at them for free?

So curious~~

Tohopekaliga 10-30-2015 07:32 PM

Yes, all items donated are kept in the Exchange inventory, and those are selected against for the exchange options. At present, you can only exchange Jack-O-Loot items, but after the event, I'm going to open it up to all special items (event, RIG, crane) for exchange. You give one of those ,you get a random other one that's been given to the exchange.

Also, you can exchange commons for other commons (meaning, aurum-purchased items), but I think it's mostly just underpants in that selection right now.

Duchess 10-30-2015 07:37 PM

Oh that sounds wonderful!

I literally only have old items, so it would be great to have a chance at the newer event items that I missed.
Thank you so much for the reply and the feature in genera!

Gallagher 10-30-2015 11:04 PM

Holy shit, you guys.

Some people are gonna get Hot Jackies and Luna Jotas, that's for damn sure.

... And some... Deer Me Shorts... I sure hope those aren't already worn.

Tohopekaliga 10-30-2015 11:10 PM

Oh deer me. It's part of the fun! Was this worn before...? Did they wash it?

Who could say? Not I, certainly.

Salone 10-30-2015 11:19 PM

It's all the fun of shopping through used clothing with none of the smell! Now to find that denim vest from 1991...

I mean, er, those event items. Yes.

Pinkie 10-31-2015 09:01 AM

Oh wow what a neat Idea! I really like this and cant wait! Maybe I can finally get a few items I want

Ginger 10-31-2015 04:29 PM

Thanks for adding this feature!

Sei 10-31-2015 10:16 PM

I certainly had to give this an official try, and it worked like a dream. :'D

Illusion 10-31-2015 10:45 PM

Awesome feature in general :P

Tohopekaliga 10-31-2015 11:55 PM

I'm very glad everyone likes it. :D

Hopefully everyone will like the next new feature I'm working on, too. We'll find out in a few weeks. :O

Espy 11-01-2015 07:41 PM

Oh dear cheeseballs. What exactly is its sorting order?

Gallagher 11-01-2015 07:46 PM

The less you ask, the less pain you'll be in.

Tohopekaliga 11-01-2015 07:50 PM

For your own inventory? oldest items first. Might be good to flip that around, now that I think about it.

If you know the name of the item, you can type it in the box above, and it'll be singled out lickity-split.

Gallagher 11-01-2015 07:53 PM

Lol, in the exchange? It's not even close to oldest first. It's literally all over the place.

Tohopekaliga 11-01-2015 07:57 PM

Actually, it is oldest first, but not the oldest you're probably expecting.

Specifically, it's oldest item instance. Which is...likely not the best sorting method, lol. Only real advantage is Jack-O-Loot things will be at the end of the list at the moment.

Gallagher 11-01-2015 08:01 PM

Uh, yeah. I get oldest by release date, and I get oldest that the account has gotten, but this has items all over the place. Man, it has items I just got today and only uploaded in this last week somewhere with... a ton of eyeballs. From years ago. Wat.

Tohopekaliga 11-01-2015 08:29 PM

Ah, you're right. I didn't specify a sort order, so the database was just grabbing it how ever it felt like.

Now it sorts by item id, newest items first.

Illusion 11-01-2015 08:32 PM

Gave the thing some time, just my few suggestions for the future full release:

Have the inventory viewer for the feature just be our inventories, allow us to click an unlimited amount of items then click accept to donate all of them for inventory cleaning.
For wonder trade just show a limited version where you just click the item you want to trade and click accept.

So if this feature goes on for a long time, basically the dumpster will be loaded with items because there's virtually no output to it. So will people be able to dump items from it in the future using game coins/tokens? (Are you guys waiting for it to have a beefy amount of items before establishing this system?)

Make sure to keep free items out of the dumpster (pandora items) before release to keep the dumpster from being overfilled with them.

Dump items in the dumpster from banned accounts to help distribute older items that might had been lost for good do to frozen accounts.

A non item/money reward for donating to the dumpster. (Colored Titles, a number depicting how much you donated in your profile. Access to a Good Samaritan subforum.) And if this does happen, add tiers/points for items being donated based on aurum cost and rarity.
So tiers from lowest to highest common items > token shop items > event items > anka egg items > monthlies > special items (Japan items, jackets from God Wars, ect.) > Yearlies.
And offset this by losing points for taking things out of the dumpster. (Can't go below zero to negative points.)

Just some thoughts :P

Gallagher 11-01-2015 08:34 PM

That sorting is so much better. Appreciated.

Also, neener neener you were wrong!

Glitch 11-01-2015 08:36 PM

Haha ya I was like "hey there's stuff all over, there's no oldest XD"

so glad it's fixed <3 ty

Tohopekaliga 11-01-2015 08:40 PM

Thanks for the feedback. :D

Mass donating would be useful, yes. I may implement that down the line.

The exchange tracks all donations and exchanges, so I know who donated what, when, and what they got in return. This data isn't being used for anything right now, but we certainly can implement rewards for giving items, should we choose in the future (and past donations won't be left high and dry).

Freebie items (pandora whatevers and all those hair types) are actually checked for and outright deleted when donated. You can also try exchanging them and see what it says (it won't eat one of your 5 for the day).

I have considered allowing users a free grab daily, but not for a while, because I don't really want the exchange to be increasing the item pool of the site much, and it would run out pretty quick without a decent reserve.

Your give/take points idea is pretty good. We'll certainly keep it in mind for future improvements to the Exchange!

The current plan for the exchange is that after the Halloween event is done, I will open up the exchange option to all items except freebies and monthlies. The exchange is not entirely random. What you give it determines what it gives back--you give it a common, it gives you a common. Pretty much everything else is free rein, though (and won't give you commons).

Obsidian 11-02-2015 01:47 AM

Okay so... this exchange thing, when you do open it for the higher end stuff... Is there going to be calculations set in that if I try to exchange a very rare item, I'm guaranteed an item of equal rarity or do I risk getting a craptastic item?

I seriously don't want to get rid of my old extras that I can't seem to sell if I'm running the risk of getting an item that is 100 times lesser in value.

Coda 11-02-2015 07:00 PM

It's a gamble! Commons (defined as "item currently for sale in the shops with a price in Aurum") will always exchange for commons, but everything else goes in one big pool.

Sei 11-02-2015 08:37 PM

Thank you for the newest at the top. My inventory gives the system a hard time every time I go to exchange an item. xD

Hero 11-04-2015 12:10 AM

I like the exchange but it sucks that I get the same item back x_x

I was getting that in the beginning, lol. Now lately, I've been getting other stuff.

I forgot I asked a question in here, lol.
So commons trade for commons and rares trade for rares?

Tohopekaliga 11-04-2015 10:13 PM

That's the idea, yes. You won't get a common for a rare, and vice-versa.

Panda 02-15-2016 04:38 AM

Ok, so I exchanged some monthly items, and I got special items back in return. O.o I thought I would be getting monthly item for monthly item. I'm kinda lost here.

Tohopekaliga 02-15-2016 10:10 AM

No, there's no such limitation.

...Although, I could have sworn I had it disallow you from giving items bought with runes.

Okay. Now that I check the logs, you exchanged event items, not monthlies. That makes more sense. I didn't actually set up the exchange to limit items from Smooch Quest this time. I knew there was something I forgot...

...There aren't actually that many items from that, though. It's easy enough to get them all. :)

Coda 02-15-2016 11:14 AM

So the spoopiest exchange is NOT now the goopiest exchange?

Panda 02-15-2016 12:14 PM

I did exchange the game items, but I also exchanged a couple wysavra which is a monthly item.
It probably didn't go through, but I thought it did.

Tohopekaliga 02-15-2016 12:34 PM

Goop just gums up the works, you know.
