Games that made you cry:

List any game here you've played and it made you cyr also tell us why.

Lucid: 12-05-2014 09:04 PM

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons made me cry! Saying why would be spoilers, but I will say that I really liked how the mechanics of the game really tied in to the story and the characters so closely. It made the game feel a lot more powerful.

It's a short game, and I would highly recommend playing it if you haven't. You can pick it up for $15 on Steam, and I believe it goes on sale pretty regularly, particularly since it's a little over a year old.

- Ni No Kuni. And don't make me specify the moment, long story short the game uses animations from Studio Ghibi, and is based alongside their story telling style. So when you put Sad and Studio Ghibi together you can get a clear vivid picture of what that entails.

- The Last of Us (I cannot specify in this game without ruining anything.)

My biggest one -> Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 (THE ENDING. MY GAWD THE ENDING. You knew what was going to happen if you played Final Fantasy 7, but my gawd the feels.) And when you tie the ending with this song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_ipWtjyuIM
GAAAH! FEEEEEELLLZZZZ!

Karastorm 12-06-2014 09:58 PM

I saw the title of this thread, and came here to post this same game. Oh my goodness I was upset. I finished the game, but I deleted it after that, I was still crying.

(It's a good game, though! And even though you control two characters at the same time, I think they did a great job of setting the controls so it's not too confusing.)

@Illusion, I have Ni No Kuni, picked it up for free as a PS+ sale, would you recommend it? (I am not familiar with any of the names you mentioned there, I never really got into Japanese Manga and all.)

I have "The Last of Us," as well. Now I'm not looking forward to the ending... But I will still play it eventually.

I bought Ni No Kuni on sale for $20 and I thought that I didn't pay enough money for it. It's rich in content, and a overall amazing game. I haven't spent that much time on one game within a whole months for years now.

(As in, in the short run, not the long run.)

There's quite a few games that made me cry for different reasons.

To The Moon: Watching the story of an old man's life play in reverse was so difficult. You know what's going to happen later in his life but when you get to the earlier stages of John's childhood, oh my god. It's so SAD.

The Last of Us: Especially the DLC, holy shit. That made me cry for a while. Even the beginning of the game is like, BAM! FEELS.

Beyond Two Souls: Without ruining it, the alternate paths you can choose hit so heavily sometimes. It's hard to see the way her life goes from past to present and everywhere inbetween.

Bravely Default: I can't say too much without ruining it but one of the characters, oh man. It's hard when you the player begin to piece together what's happening but the characters haven't figured it out.

I may or may not have shed tears for both Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 as well as for Final Fantasy 13.

Edit: I'm just a big baby when it comes to sad scenes.

I cried playing Eternal Sonata. It's an anime styled game similar to the Final Fantasy games in setup, based on the life of Frederick Chopin. The mix of the sad storyline and his beautiful music was enough to bring me to tears. It was very enjoyable to play though. (still need to do the second play through)

The Last of Us DLC: When you saw the setting you knew you were in for feels.

Bravely Default: I wouldn't call the story sad, but more so lies and deceit. Sure there are moments like... Hmmm.. Yeah spoilers. But those sad moments meant little because after you unleash the crystals so many... Yeah. It didn't matter because. You know. Things weren't consistent with each you know.. GAH trying to get into a full conversation about this game without spoiling anything is an impossible task. Because just one little story detail could spoil the whole thing! (Not ruin the story though.)

Beyond Two Souls: I watched playthroughs of this game, I'm waiting for a PS4 version of the game though. I played the demo as well. But darn, the acting is all well done. I did sob in a few moments, in terms of intensity this game can really hit strong moments of character interaction like The Last of Us.

Final Fantasy 13 isn't sad, it's sad moments are too touching in terms of you aweing at it. What's sad is 13-2. As much crap that story is, they know how to make you cry in that game. Ending and everything that has happened in between.

And no Kingdom Hearts has had me cried the most then 358/2 Days. Birth By Sleep had it's moments but.. OHMYGOSH XION, ROXAS, AND AXEL/LEA! DX

Madame-Aiko 01-12-2015 05:16 PM

The ending of Pokemon black. When N left and never came back I was traumatized.

Karastorm 01-13-2015 05:37 PM

I just finished a play though of Brothers a tale of two son's Yup that ending sure is something. Really enjoyed the game as a whole the wrigting was suburb!. Playing through Majora's mask at the moment and I know where it's going it's just..GAH!.

Schadenfreude 01-19-2015 04:08 PM

LoZ: OOT. I got so frustrated because I couldn't manage to get to the boss chamber in the Water Temple that I cried. I was about five or six.

Him 02-02-2015 07:36 PM

I didn't play this game but I watched a play through of Misao it's a pc game where a school girl named Misao dies and drags the entire school into this place that's like limbo. And you as the closest thing to a friend she had tries to free her soul and save the school.

Spoilers because there is material here that might be triggering to some and if you haven't played the gam/finishing it.

TW: Bullying, rape, and murder:

Holly tommolie that sounds like a really strange game. The premises is just plain bizzare. Can understand ow it must be emotionally hard for some one to go through this. Think I ma have to find this game and give it a go.

Citrus 02-21-2015 12:13 AM

To the moon. I honestly can't remember why but I know I bawled over it.
Ib. Garry messed me up man.
Mad Father. It was Maria's diaries
The Witch's house. THAT ENDING HURT OMG

Espy 02-21-2015 03:55 AM

I think Ib got me close to crying.

Karastorm 02-23-2015 01:10 PM

To the moon. I honestly can't remember why but I know I bawled over it <- you know that's only really part one of the whole saga. I really what t see what happens to the two doctors specially the Male one ( won't spoil it). They did another game recently called A birds tale. I banded my self from buying it as it looked hell sad.

I'm just gonna put a bunch of stuff in spoilers so we can avoid ruining stuff for people. xD;

@Him: I remember watching Misao, oh my god that game is messed up. For how messed up it is, you may also like Mad Father (same creator), Ib, The Witch's House and maybe uh... Mermaid Swamp. I'm trying to think of more RPG maker games, these are all horror RPG maker games, btw.

Kenome MoMoshima 03-22-2015 08:35 PM

I've cried to many..
But some I can remember is Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

For Crisis Core I cried for hours over Zack's death.
It was so heart stabbingly sad..

And for TP I cried when Midna left and broke the mirror.
Not sure why I cried then but hey I probably didn't want to see her go.

Karastorm 03-23-2015 03:51 PM

cos Minda is a bad ass?

Heck yeah!
She was just so cool.
I didn't want her to leave.
And I also cried out of anger because Link never talks and didn't try and stop her..
LOL

Cautionibite47 06-05-2015 01:26 PM

I cried at the end of Bioshock infinite because it all just hit me so hard. I hated and loved that ending so much.

Demonskid 06-05-2015 01:35 PM

Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core.. I BAWLED! QoQ I still can't bring myself to play it again and i tear up just thinking about it. ;-;

Lawtan 06-05-2015 05:27 PM

Not sure about crying, but the (sort of a game) Presentable Liberty sort of hit a good bit close to home...and Witch's House...I agree with Krism

Always wanted to shoot Nasher Alagondar, Lord of Neverwiner (You hang your left hand for a mistake...who is betrothed to your right hand...to appease the mobs...then drive your right hand hard with overwork until she cracks under pressure and becomes a traitor/liability...then kill her when she was the link/head instructor to all your "Heroes of Neverwinter"...and bury them in the Tomb of Traitors as the "Worst of the Worst"...)

...but yeah, I get angry in games, not sad.

Hmm...maybe the guy who sacrificed himself out of a twisted feeling of guilt during World in Conflict. Sort of hard not to when you see flashbacks to the last time the guy messaged his folks.

Books...another story...but then again, books I tend to not have spoiled for me before I read them.
