Which operating system do you use?

Which one do you use, and why?

NOTE: This thread is for posting your opinions on your operating system. Not on others. Therefore, please refrain from bashing other operating systems and do not start arguments with people about what OS they use. Seriously, it's just a computer. :')

Himiko 09-06-2010 06:26 PM

I use Vista, and I honestly like it. I know a lot of others don't and rage at the thought, but I think it's pretty easy once you get use to it.

And it just came with the computer, sooo. xD;

Darkspineshadow2 09-06-2010 06:40 PM

Windows 7. Dell Inspiron 15R.
Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag and smile, smile, smile.

Zack 09-06-2010 07:32 PM

I use Window's Vista on a Dell Studio XPS 16 and I love it.
Vista's so simple and I just like it a lot. :'D

Cyanide Lollipop 09-07-2010 05:57 PM

Windows Vista on my laptop (the computer I use 99% of the time), Windows XP on my desktop (it's old. XD)

I just use whatever comes with the computers. I'm lazy and impatient and installing an OS takes time.

I really, really want Windows 7 though. T__T It looks so nifty. My mom has it on her laptop but she won't let me borrow it for a week or so to play with the OS. xP

Lucid: 09-07-2010 05:58 PM

I use windows 7 on my Toshiba Satellite L675. <3 it's new so I haven't encountered problems yet, but I have been one of those unlucky sort when it comes to computers working properly.

Phoenix 09-07-2010 06:15 PM

I have Windows Vista.
I think it's alright.
Actually, it's really simple and neat, so I like it. :D

Pikal 09-07-2010 06:21 PM

Mac OS X because that's what we bought.

I like it for its simplicity... I hate it because all the things I used most often on my Windows (open canvas, msn, etc) I can't use on a mac. Sucks, but just something to get used too.

Guinevere 09-09-2010 08:14 PM

Mac Mac Mac. 8) Been on my Mac OS X for about 4 years now, recently upgraded to the latest version. I love it. <3 It's a shame that not many programs work on it compared to the variety Windows has, but visually speaking I much prefer Macs and they're nice to use for all of my art programs. :3

Ashurato 09-09-2010 09:30 PM

Mac OS X. I luff my Mac.

Lancelot 09-09-2010 09:44 PM

Windows 98, it's extremely dependable and screams "Elegant".

Alexander Linden 09-09-2010 09:44 PM

I'm currently using Kubuntu.

Raine Dragon 09-12-2010 05:43 AM

Windows XP

I went to a licensed reseller breakfast with a rep from Microsoft when Vista was coming out and he couldn't keep it stable through the presentation. Needless to say, I wasn't ready to jump over to Vista that day! I'm not bashing Vista, mind you; just saying... I was scared off of it a bit! XD;

I've been kinda bidding my time since then; I know 7 is out, but I'm a little worried that it might not be as quick or dependable as good 'ol XP so I've been scared to update. XD;

GrnTea 09-12-2010 11:55 AM

7! AHhhhhhhhhh I love Windows 7! I have it on my laptop and my desktop. I had Vista on my first laptop, then switched it over to XP because I personally hated Vista, then when that laptop died I got Windows 7 on my new laptop and OMGAH! Love! :D

Sushi 09-12-2010 01:07 PM

Windows XP - Simple, does what I need it to do, neat.

It has everything I currently want/have use for. It's a family computer and it's been reliable for a long time now. I'm sure if I ever get a new comp or buy a laptop things will be differently but for now I am content.

I love you Windows XP.

GrnTea 09-12-2010 01:59 PM

You really can't go wrong with XP, I'm not gonna lie. But 7 looks so shnazzy!

Sushi 09-12-2010 02:12 PM

I know a few people who have Windows 7. It didn't seem that great in my opinion. Not like how all the commercials made it out to be. Yeah, you can have two things up at once with the snap feature and it's a little cleaner. I'm sure it's just me, but I'm not used to navigating it yet and it seems strange. lol. I'm sure I would get familiar with it if I owned it.

GrnTea 09-12-2010 02:16 PM

It's basically just like a smoother version of vista. Much Much Much Smoother. But yes I still love my XP, I have like 4 copies lying around here somewhere. xD

Sushi 09-12-2010 02:20 PM

4 copies? lol. Nice. I never had vista so I can't say I know exactly what it was or how it ran. I'm guessing it just an updated version without so many bugs?

GrnTea 09-12-2010 02:36 PM

Vista just ran slow, and ate up a lot of video memory which a lot of people's computers couldn't handle and for gaming nerds (such as myself :D )
it affected the performance of our games. So I kind of have a vendetta against it :P

Cyanide Lollipop 09-12-2010 05:57 PM

I've had Vista on both my laptops and never really had a problem with it (aside from the "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THIS?" Yes I'm freaking sure! This isn't my first computer, I know what I'm doing thank you very much!)... but then, both laptops had pretty good RAM and I don't really play PC games aside from The Sims. xD I had a lot of bad luck with PC games (and ugh even getting The Sims to cooperate is a challenge sometimes) so I stick to consoles.

GrnTea 09-13-2010 08:57 AM

Yea the security prompts like even trying to open a word document got really old really quick in Vista... Of course if I was the person behind Vista I would have made it so that there would be a security prompt for the security prompt: "Are you sure you want to do this? Yes. Are you really really sure? YES! Okay, just making sure. *user rages into oblivion*" Probably a good thing I don't work at Microsoft... lol

Angel 09-13-2010 11:09 AM

I have Windows Vista on my laptop and it works well enough for me. I have thought about getting Windows 7 but I've heard different opinions from several people. One of my friends decided to install Windows 7 on her laptop, it took awhile to install but she uninstalled it quickly afterward, it just wasn't working for her. Oh the other hand, my brother has Windows 7 on his laptop also, so I've seen how Windows 7 works, and so far he hasn't had a problem with it.

SakuraMinamino 09-13-2010 11:22 AM

I've got XP on one laptop and Vista on the other. Adore XP, hate Vista. *glares at this computer* Want to hurt it. xD I'd like to try Windows 7, I've heard great things. : )

By all means, bash Vista. :P Even Microsoft knows that Vista was a failure overall; XP's support lifetime was extended because Vista simply wasn't suitable for high-reliability use. 7 is much, much better.

As for me... I'm a UNIX guy. My primary computers are both Macs and before I got the Macs my old desktop and my old laptop both ran Linux. I use Windows as a measure of last resort and even then I have two full sets of UNIX tools installed there. (Cygwin and MSYS)

@Sushi: Windows 7 isn't impressive if you're looking at features alone. What makes it impressive is that it's actually fast and stable. It can be as fast as XP if you set it up right and it's more stable than either XP or Vista. I avoid using Windows but I seriously respect Windows 7.

@CyanideLollipop: Be glad it asks you if you're sure. Those prompts are the only thing standing between you and a lot of malware.

Taiki 09-13-2010 12:22 PM

I have Windows XP on my laptop (it's 4 years old though) and Windows Vista on my desktop. I bought my desktop right before Windows 7 came out so it came with a free upgrade to 7 if I wanted it but I was too lazy to do it. I don't have a problem with Vista so I don't really care. My grandma has Windows 7 on her laptop and she is constantly complaining about it. xD

Coda 09-13-2010 01:03 PM

Your grandma would probably complain about Vista, too; for the most part, Vista and 7 have the same user interface. :P

My dad has a laptop with Windows 7. He's had it on constantly ever since he got it several months ago. Yesterday he was having me teach him how to use a flash drive (....yeah) and afterward I told him to restart the stupid thing because leaving it on for eons isn't a good thing. He looks at me and goes, "I don't know how to turn it off. I've never done it before."

*dies* At least my mom is a bit more...capable? xD

johnny 09-13-2010 01:27 PM

Mac OS X.

I'm a trendy Mac-Using College Student! I sit in coffee shops with my Macbook and "work on my novel"! Wheeee! xD

(Kidding, I don't sit in coffee shops to work on my novel - even though I wish I could - and I've never been trendy a day in my life).

Silverbleed 09-13-2010 01:54 PM

Mac OS X Leopard.

I can't work with Windows for shit. It always lags and it keeps crashing on my no matter what I do :/ It's a matter of time basically. I think the longest time my old computer could run without errors or viruses was a month.
My Mac hasn't gotten an error until it was 2 years old. I've never gotten one again since that one, tho.

Lucid: 09-13-2010 03:37 PM

Wiggles, your entire post was saturated with stuffwhitepeoplelike.com. XD

Cyanide Lollipop 09-13-2010 05:44 PM

Coda - Yeah, I've heard that. I dunno, it's just really annoying when all I want to do is move a file. xD;

I'm... really incredibly paranoid when it comes to malware and stuff, though. I kinda killed a computer due to a trojan back when I was like ten. <__< But I haven't had any major malware since then, knock on wood.

Sakura - Wow. @__@ I used to leave my desktop on all the time, but I'd never do that with a laptop. I felt bad for leaving my laptop on for 24 hours the other day, let alone MONTHS. D:

SakuraMinamino 09-13-2010 05:54 PM

@Cyanide Lollipop: Yeeeah. xD I mean my laptop is pretty much on most of the day while I'm awake, but at night it goes to sleep most of the time. Definitely wouldn't leave it on as long as he has--it wouldn't survive, especially when you should see how many programs he has up x.x He refuses to click the little "go to desktop" button, so he has to sit there and minimize EVERYTHING when I need to look at his desktop. Freaking takes five minutes. It's ridiculous. xD

But hey, I got him to restart it the other day. So maybe now it'll take a while for it to get that bad again. xD

Demagische 09-13-2010 08:24 PM

I have Windows Vista on my Toshiba Sattelite L505. I actually find it pretty easy to use, and prefer it over 7 in some cases because of the simplicity.

The laptop actually came with a windows 7 disk if we wanted to upgrade, but alot of feedback said that often it just doesn't install cleanly and I didn't want to lose the laptop I'd only had for like a month at the time. XD

Kotomi 09-13-2010 09:00 PM

I can adjust to about any operating system I have tried, 95, 98, 2000, XP, Mac (mac was only in a class I had), Vista, windows 7 (however the switching of the web pages is something fairly irritating to me since sometimes my mouse moves and well poof i find myself in a different location... grumbles some but yeah my BF will fuss at the Vista one while I fuss at his Windows 7)
also the older version of vista I tried I would have to say wasn't good but after they had worked on it more I liked it
well oh well just my opinion here, shrugs, many computers can be helpful ^^

Clover 09-14-2010 12:23 PM

I use Windows Seven.
I had Vista on my laptop at first, but it is odd and glitched a lot.
Now my computer works more neat with Seven.
Just looove it <33

speedy kitty 09-14-2010 12:58 PM

I use a mac. The only thing that I don't like is that there are not many games that I can play on it.

Cyanide Lollipop 09-14-2010 09:01 PM

Sakura - Yeah, if I'm awake my laptop is probably on. XD I try to get off the computer (even if it's just to play video games for a bit) but lately by the time I'm done checking everything there's people online and I feel bad ditching them for video games. XD;

Jeez, that's crazy. @__@ Have you tried to convince him to turn it off once and a while?

Kotomi - Yeah, I'm pretty much the same way. I just take whatever OS is on the computer and I get used to it. XD

Jandi 09-14-2010 10:28 PM

I use vista.
Simply cuz it's nice xD

Clover 09-15-2010 01:34 PM

Mac is awesome when you do some design stuff on it, but yes it kind of sucks when it comes to games question.
