"On her bed, we had to break down the door to get in. We saw her on film in the motorcycle arena. We still don't know how she knew there was an exit down there. Did she tell you anything?" Snow demanded.
"No," Raven replied quickly. He was concerned, but getting on the defensive. How was this his fault?
"Then why did she write a note to just you?" Snow questioned.
"I don't know!" Raven countered. "She came to me upset this morning, but not that upset! Ask Nic about it."
"Nic's still unconscious. He took a turn for the worse, we don't know when he'll wake," Snow said, it looked like she believed him, "She's been gone for 6 hours already Raven."
Frei was shaking harder. |
Raven put a hand on his head, trying to keep his emotions in check. "... I don't know," Raven repeated. "She came to me upset at lunch and then went to check on Nic. That's all I know-Wait. There was a message for Laurel being passed around earlier. Last I heard, Blaze had it."
Snow turned, "Come with me," she stated, "And you might have to carry Frei." Frei seemed to be frozen in place.
Raven cussed under his breath a little as he grabbed Frei and quickly wrapped her in a dry towel as he followed Snow. There was always something.
Snow went straight to Blaze, "You have a note for Laurel?" she asked, holding out her hand.
Blaze blinked at Snow, Raven, and Frei before handing the note over.
Snow scanned it quickly before handing it to Raven, "Worthless," she sighed, turning back to Blaze, "Laurel's missing, if you have any information I must ask you to tell me."
Blaze thought about it for a short moment. Then she related the odd incident of Laurel walking away from the infirmary just before Nic went critical and James yelling at her to come help.
Snow blinked, "When was this?" she asked.
Blaze guessed the time with an error of maybe two or three minutes.
Snow paused, "Laurel left within the hour after that. Whatever upset her there must have spurred her to leave," she mused. "We're trying to track her location now but-"
"What's going on?" Rosen asked as he walked over. He was stretching his back out and wearing his usually big sweatshirt and sweats with no shoes combination. |
Blaze took it upon herself to give a quick, but informative summary.
Rosen blinked, "Well, if she still has the bracelet on, we can track her that way," he suggested.
Snow nodded, "But we would need the tracker linked directly to the bracelet." "Nic has it." "Nic's unconscious." "... Well let's raid his room. I've been wanting to see what skeletons he has in his closet anyway," Rosen decided before turning towards Nic's room. "This is serious! Laurel's in danger as long as she's on her own!" Snow snapped. Rosen gave her a 'I know' shake of the hand. |
Raven sighed a little, starting to shake a bit in the cold. But it looked like he could deal with it.
Blaze followed Rosen, seeming to think his logic was sound. |
Once in Nic's room, the group fanned out to search. Snow took a moment to close the bathroom door, "What a horrible drug..." she muttered.
Frei was still shaking but could stand on her own. She walked over to the bed and picked up Nic's scarf tenderly. The news was traveling fast around the mansion now, by word of mouth of the girls. Laurel had run away, she was lost. Laurel was gone. Laurel had been kidnapped. Laurel had been kidnapped by aliens!- no, sky pirates!- no! by a long lost fiance! |
Nic didn't have too many personal items. Nothing that was uniquely his apart from the scarf and his laptop which was locked. The tracker was in one of the desk drawers, fully charged.
Snow immediately turned it on and then cussed fluently. "She's definitely on a jet. An expensive jet by the speed. She's already over the Dakotas." she cussed again.
"... Where is she going?" Raven asked quietly, not sure if he wanted to know the answer.
"We have no idea," Snow admitted after a pause.
Raven paused a moment before nodding. "... What could have prompted her to leave...?" he mused aloud.
"... James was in the infirmary," Blaze noted. |
Snow glared at Blaze, "Don't assume it's his fault just because he's unstable," she spat.
Rosen looked at Laurel's green dot for a moment, "Could she be headed to the Okorie?" he asked aloud, "Isn't that the only possible place she has to go?" Snow glanced at him, thinking it through. "But no one know's where they operate from." Rosen shrugged, "Just throwing it out there." |
Blaze shrugged. "It's just a possibility," she replied.
"Have we tried tracking her movements from just before she left?" Raven asked. "There's security cameras all over this place, right?" |
Snow nodded to Raven, "That's how we know she left through the lower exit. Through the motorcycle arena exit that no one is supposed to know about. We do have security down there which should have alerted us to her departure but it just happened to be one of the wires James cut."
Raven nodded a little and sat on the bed next to Frei. "If we trace it back further, maybe we can figure out who she talked to and why she left."
Snow nodded, "Let's go see what Wolfe's found in the recordings," she decided as she headed for the door, tracker in hand. Frei left the room but didn't follow Snow. She seemed to be heading towards the infirmary.
Raven glanced back at Frei. "You alright?" he asked her.
Frei nodded slightly and continued on her way, scarf still in her hands.
Raven paused a little, but continued to follow Snow. He had grabbed a towel from Nic's room so he wasn't dripping anymore, but he was still in his swim trunks.
Snow led them to the main control room. Wolfe was still busy looking through security tapes. He glanced over at the group entering before focusing on Snow. She shook her head but help out the tracking device.
"What do you have so far?" she asked him when Wolfe was done looking over the tracker. "Normally we make a point not to tap into the security features of individual rooms but..." Wolfe sighed. Snow motioned him to go ahead. Wolfe nodded, "From what I can find, Nic and Laurel had an argument this morning. It doesn't seem to be big enough to be the reason she left though," he added before rolling the tape in a fast forward way. There was Nic and Laurel and Kandy. It was just as Laurel had described to Raven. Kandy took a picture of Nic and left. Laurel and Nic had a fight. Laurel stormed out. Wolfe skipped forward, "She sat out in the garden for awhile then came back in." There was Laurel on the bed with Nic's scarf, falling asleep, waking and finding the bathroom. Wolfe followed her with different cameras to the infirmary. She was clearly angry as she sought Raven out. "Again, she doesn't appear to be upset enough to leave so suddenly," Wolfe explained. We're missing some film here, James's cutting the lines messed with some cameras. But she appears to have been heading back to the infirmary. "Blaze saw her there," Snow replied, looking at Blaze. Wolfe looked at her as well. |
Blaze nodded, describing what she saw once more.
Wolfe frowned a little, "So it doesn't seem like she went in at all. But this is where things start getting strange," he told the group as he showed more film on the screen.
"She went back to her room and started pacing for awhile before suddenly leaving again. I was able to track her to the garden where she picked up Rosemary and returned to her room." He played a little bit more and they watched Laurel took off the collar from her pet and remove a star shaped piece of gold colored metal that looked like Rosemary's name-tag. Laurel pried it open and some strange hologram appeared, it looked like some sort of map. "I can't figure it out," Wolfe confessed, "The map itself makes no sense." Laurel scanned it for a moment before standing and leaving the room again with the locket in her pocket. "Again, the security tapes were severed by James's playing in the garden. All we know is that she comes back with a bag. She locates Amela, grabs her, and heads down to the riding range. From there it is presumed she left." He looked down at the tracker again, "We should be able to trace her movements since then with this," and he turned and got to work on the tracker. Snow was cussing a little under her breath. |
Raven was rubbing his head a bit looking lost. Blaze stood around, not sure what to do either.
"Nic's still unconscious?" Wolfe asked without looking up.
"Yes," Snow replied. "Good," Wolfe muttered, "The last thing we need is another wanted person running off. First, we need to figure out where she's going." He plugged the tracker into the screen. "Okay. It looks like... she left here and traveled by motorcycle to Vancouver and... somehow rented one of fastest jets. And probably a pilot since she can't fly it." He paused, "... Check our funds." he suddenly told Snow who nodded and went to another computer screen. He glanced back at the others, "We should track her from the air as well. Blaze, are you up for leaving Kale for a little while?" |
Blaze didn't reply, but she looked ready to do what was needed of her.
Wolfe looked at Raven.
Raven glanced back at Wolfe, seeing if there was anything for him to do.
