Domino was shocked into stillness for a moment before he lost a sense of himself and pressed back into the kiss desperately- holding against against him tightly.
|
"I certianly hope those aren't bibles you are burning."
Kayen jumped up and turned around, his entire body tense. Standing beside the fire was a tall, older gentlemen with layered red hair and the strangest head band on - a pair of ears sewn into it that stuck up like a cat's. He was dressed in black robes with a white bit on his collar and had a cross dangling from his neck. |
Domino snapped out of his bliss-induced trance and moved to cover Kayen protectively.
|
"I wont hurt you," The man assured as he poured a bottle full of water onto the fire, putting it out. "I came to see who was burning things in my church."
|
"Where've you been hiding?" Domino demanded in a calm manner- though his face didn't look entirely calm at the moment. "We searched for people."
|
"I was out in the grave yard," The man informed, looking a bit sad. "I saw you two come in here and I saw your friend go in the Mausoleum... but I didn't think you'd be burning the books of His Holiness..."
"They're just books," Kayen snorted. "Printed words on paper just like any other!" "Perhaps to you, that is what they are," the Priest whispered. "But to me, they are something more." |
"We don't understand." Domino frowned slightly.
|
"Even if I wasn't a priest," The man whispered. "These books belong to someone very important to me... I would appreciate if you wouldn't burn them."
"Sorry," Kayen whispered, lowering his head. |
"So someone else lives with you here?" Domino asked- pulling Kayen closer to him.
|
"Someone does, yes," The man informed. "But he isn't here right now. He is away."
He eyed the two of them carefully. "You are from The Facility, right?" He asked. "Please don't take us back!" Kayen gasped, his eyes wide. The man looked surprised, before he smiled. "Why would I do that?" |
"How do you know about that place?" Domino demanded- his cold eyes narrowing.
|
"Everyone around here knows about it," The priest informed, taking a seat and setting the bucket down beside himself. "Families that can't afford food sell their children to it. They claim its for the 'greater good', but I don't see how torturing innocent children to kill harmless beings is any good."
|
"Harmless beings?" Domino raised an eyebrow.
|
"Silvers," The priest informed.
|
"You haven't been close to them before, have you." Domino sighed.
He closed his eyes and tried to filter out the hazy, fragmented imagines in his mind. Right now they would only cause him to lose his focus. |
"I have," The priest informed. "I've met the King and Queen, in fact."
"Really?" Kayen inquired - looking curious. "What were they like?" "Very kind," The priest replied, smiling gently. "And gentle." "Wow..." Kayen's eyes were wide, but somehow Domino knew it was fake. He was milking the priest for information - if he could get the Silver's location from the man, he would hunt them down. |
The black-streaked blonde decided to keep quiet in order not to give Kayen away. It was always impressive to see the prodigy go to work. Now they could hope for the potential bearing on their enemies.
|
"It was a long time ago," The Priest informed. "And I wasn't allowed in their home."
Kayen's shoulders fell. |
"Why were you out in the wilderness?" Domino asked lifelessly. "Surely it was safer inside the walls of the city."
|
The priest stared at him, before he chuckled. "Oh, no... My husband meets with them once a week to teach English to them and to learn their language. They meet at a neutral ground... I went with him at one point."
|
"Neutral ground?" Domino frowned. "Where?"
|
"Its changed since then, so I don't know," The priest informed.
|
"So your husband...husband?" Domino frowned again. "So your husband still meets with them at an undisclosed location?"
|
"Weekly," The man informed. "That isn't where he is right now, though."
"Where is he?" Kayen asked, taking a seat on the floor. "He went to get some food... oh gosh, you must be freezing! Where are my manors!?" The priest hopped up. "Come, come! Lets get you into some clothing that isn't so thin!" "Huh?" Kayen blinked and hopped up, moving to follow the man. It wasn't that he trusted the unusual priest - he just knew he could take care of himself, especially against a weak human. |
Domino got up and followed after them- silent as a cold breeze. His long sleeves dragged across the floor as he pursued the two.
|
The priest lead them back into the part of the church they hadn't really looked in and pushed open a door, coming into an old, worn-down bedroom.
"I don't think I have anything that will fit you," He admitted. "Ryou is a few sizes smaller then me, but he is no child. Still, its better then those mud-covered, torn clothes... we'll have to see about getting those collars off of you. You're not pets." "Oh, I forgot about them," Kayen admitted, touching his own. "Just used to them, I guess..." He felt around the outside for a moment, before there was a click as he used his mind to press the inside release. It snapped off, clattering to the floor loudly. Reaching over, he did the same with Domino's, brushing the other's skin. |
Domino closed his eyes and wished that time would slow just for a moment so he could enjoy the brushing of their skin just a little longer. He was still warm from their kissing earlier and reminded himself that he wanted to kill this man for interrupting.
|
"What's your name?" Kayen asked as the man began to search through the closet - which had no door.
"Neko," The man informed. "Neko Reese." "Neko?" Kayen repeated. "Its Japanese," Neko chuckled. "My parents found the name in an old translation file and liked it." "My name is Kayen," Kayen informed, smiling warmly. "This is Domino!" "K. N.?" Neko asked, turning to look at the boy in surprise. "Domino?" "Kayen," Kayen giggled. "I don't know why they named me that." |
"It's because...never mind." Domino sighed. "And yes, I'm Domino...my brother is outside, his name is Chess."
|
"I see," Neko replied, giving a small smile. "What made him decide to stay out there?"
He pulled out a long white shirt, fluzzy and held it up to Kayen, before offering it to the boy. Kayen took it and immediately began to pull off his own shirt. |
Domino watched Kayen undress a moment before turning back to Neko.
"He does not mingle well with others." Domino said flatly. "If you take the time to talk with him, you'll figure it out." |
"Hopefully he doesn't freeze out there," Neko mumbled, pulling out a black sweater and handing it to Domino. "I'll take some blankets out to him after I get you two settled. It gets very cold out there."
|
"He'll be fine." Domino looked down at the shirt- it wasn't long enough to cover his hands. "...I'm fine."
|
Neko eyed him for a moment, before he pulled out one of his own shirts - this one in dark red - and handed it to the boy. "This one should be long enough."
Kayen moved over to the window and peered out, trying to catch sight of the mausoleum. |
"Long enough?" Domino raised an eyebrow.
The building outside was much like the church they were in- only much smaller. The gravestones were jutting up around it like jagged teeth on the uneven ground of the graveyard and. The place was actually lit up inside. |
"Maybe we should check on him," Kayen mumbled, frowning.
"I'm afraid all of these pants are going to hang right off of you," Neko admitted, moving over to the bed and gathering up the few blankets that were there. "I think we should. It gets very cold late at night." |
"You're worried about Chess?" Domino asked Kayen- still holding the shirt he'd been given.
|
"Of course!" Kayen said, turning to give him an almost cold look before nodding to Neko. "Why wouldn't I be?"
"Lets take him some blankets," Neko said, finally turning back around - Kayen quickly wiped the cold look and replaced it with a sad one. "Then we can see about getting you three fed." |
"...Food?" Domino blinked.
|
Neko smiled sadly. "Do you two know what this building is?"
"Cold?" Kayen offered. "This is a church," Neko explained. "It's a house of God." "Who?" Kayen asked. "God is the creator of all things," The red-head went on to explain, taking a seat on the edge of the bed. Kayen sat beside him and the man turned to him. "He loves everyone and everything... we are all children of him." "Even the Silver's?" Kayen asked. "Even the Silver's," Neko confirmed. "I am what is known as a Priest. I pass around the word of God... and it's not in my heart to let you three starve or suffer. So yes, Domino..." He turned to look at the other. "I will give you food. Hopefully Ryou will return soon with some." |
