"Nice meeting you Vincent, but why are you here so late?"
"When I went to drop him off I took a peek at where he lives and his apartment didn't seem up to code and I really didn't like the idea of him staying there. So I told him to just stay over here, so he agreed to for a few days." His dad nods his head in understanding. "Well, you can stay here no problem, just don't mind the girls. Also, might be best not to go near them without one of us around since they are technically supposed to be guard dogs." |
Vincent looks a bit awkward at that question and just looks at Done, wanting him to answer that one. He's just glad when Don doesn't go into further detail. The rent is really cheap, at least to him, so he's willing to deal with problems for cheap rent. "Yeah, I kind of met them earlier..." He says. "One tried to squish me." He says nodding a bit. He prefers squishing over biting.
|
Don's father laughs and smiles at Vincent, "That was probably Bobbie then, she did that a lot to Don when we first got her and everything. Don would just shove her off every time until finally Wolfie got into a fight with her which made her stop. Wolfie sees Don as the alpha now, just like the rest of us, but as a kid she knew enough was enough of playing like that with the 'pup.' Anyways, I'm going to head upstairs and get ready for bed. Hope you enjoy your time here." He waves bye to them and lazily makes his way up.
"Now that wasn't so bad, was it?" Don smiles at Vincent because it seemed like he might freak out on him. |
Vincent does smile a bit, relaxing a bit at least. "Yeah, I think it was her. I'll squish her back someday if possible." He says simply. "Squishing the puppy could be really bad." He says before looking at Don and chuckling a bit. "Bye." He says, waving back at Don's dad a bit.
He shrugs a bit. "Some people have crazy parents." He says simply. |
"Well, good thing mine are not crazy, right?" Laughing softly he leads Vincent back upstairs to where the guest room is. It's roughly the same size as Don't room, and has a couple chairs instead of bookcases along the wall. Vincent walks over to the window and points out a switch.
"This controls the blinds so you can put them down if you want. My window faces the woods mostly so I'm not as concerned about people seeing me, but since your room is partially facing the road you might be." |
"I haven't decided on that yet, but they don't seem to be the bad king of crazy if they are." Vincent says, kind of snorting a bit. He just follows after Don, placing his two bags in a chair. "I'll probably forget the switch is there." He says, chuckling a bit. "I'm not worried about it." He's really only naked in the bathroom.
|
"Well, just figured I'd let you know it was there either way. Well, I'm going to head to bed now, if you're not up when I am do you want me to get you up? I usually make breakfast for everyone. Speaking of which, how do you like your eggs?" He leans against the door frame, his hands in his packets while he watches Vincent get settled in. Well, with what little Vincent brought with him anyways.
|
Vincent nods a bit. "Thanks." He says softly. "Ah, if you don't mind." He says simply. He didn't think of grabbing his alarm clock to say the least. "I like scrambled, but whatever is fine." He isn't going to complain. Food is food and there are some foods he doesn't like, but most of them, he'll try to eat at least. "Do you want me to help cook?"
|
"Hmm? Well, if you want to you can, my parents usually try to get as much sleep as possible because of their work and everything. And do you have any issues with pork or anything like that? There's some bacon in the fridge that needs to get used so I just want to make sure there's nothing you have a problem with. Like allergy wise or anything."
|
Vincent shrugs a bit. "I'm willing to help unless you think it would be better if I don't." He shakes his head a bit. "If I'm allergic to anything, I have not eaten it yet. And I'll eat almost anything long as it doesn't look or smell like death." And sometimes even then if he's hungry enough.
|
"Alright then, if you're already up when I get up you can help me out then. Anyways, we both better get to bed, we have a test in a couple days. One I know you're going to dread." Getting off the door frame Don heads back to his room and gets ready for bed. Plopping on his bed after turning off the lights and lays there and stares at the ceiling for a while, trying to figure out how he can get Vincent to stay with him.
|
"Well, if I'm not, wake me up and I'll be ready shortly to help." Vincent says simply. He'll just need to take care of a bodily need probably. He makes a face and noice at the test. "I dread all tests. What are you talking about?" He says, kind of snorting. "Goodnight." He says when Don leaves before turning off the light and disappearing under the covers. He just snuggles into them before falling asleep.
|
Finally getting some sleep, Don wakes up at his usual time, stretching a bit has he gets out of the bed. Making a sleepy stop at the bathroom he splashes water on his face to help wake himself up. Then he shuffles in the direction of the stairs and stops, thinking that he's forgetting something but can't really remember what. Standing there he tries to clear the fog in his head so he can remember.
|
Vincent just happens to wake up, only because certain needs will not shut up until they have been satisfied. He gets up and shuffles out of his room like a zombie, even making a noise like one almost. He just shuffles towards the bathroom. "Morning." He says to Don when he sees him, not really awake as he heads into the bathroom.
|
Don looks up at Vincent, a bit confused as first, then his brain starts working again.
"Oh, morning." By that point though Vincent is already in the bathroom so he heads on downstairs. While stretching and yawning he walks into the kitchen and then to the pantry where the dogs' food is store. Getting their dishes out he get their food ready first. |
Zombie Vincent's brain is barely functioning at the moment, but he'll wake up more as he moves. Hopefully. Once he's done with his business, he just looks for Don, heading downstairs at some point. "Mmm...whatcha doing?" He asks once he finds Don again.
|
"The girls need breakfast too so I'm feeding them. Do you want to help? Wolfie won't jump you like Bobbie would, but I don't know how she'll act towards you either." Don holds out one of the bowls, inviting Vincent to take one of them. Which will actually help since then he can use one hand to open the door instead of struggling with it like he normally does.
|
Vincent nods a bit. "Sure, I can help." He doesn't mind, long as he doesn't get eaten in the process...not that he expects to be eaten either way. He takes the bowl. "Lead the way." He says. He's a lot more awake than he was earlier. He can actually use his brain now.
|
Don leads him to the patio door and opens it, the girls running up to them eagerly. Wolfie snorting a bit when she sees Vincent, her ears twitching when she sees Don go over to Bobbie instead of her.
"Just stand in front of her and wait for her to lay down before giving her food. She gets feed first or else she might attack Bobbie to show her dominance." He waits for Vincent to put the food down in front of Wolfie before he puts Bobbie's down. |
"Snort all you want. Won't change the fact that I'm here." Vincent says simply. "You're stuck with me for now." Whether she likes it or not. "You're getting food no matter who puts the plate down." He says simply, stepping in front of her, waiting for her to lay down before he puts the plate down before stepping away. "Definitely don't want that to happen." Bobbie may have tried to kill him by squishing, but that doesn't mean he wants her attacked due to food.
|
When she sees he doesn't put the food down she huffs and reluctantly lays down, resting her head on her paws. As soon as he steps away she gets up and chows down on her food. Don then puts Bobbie's food down after she lays down and waits for the two to finish. Once they are done Bobbie rolls over wanting a belly run. Smiling Don gets on his knees and rubs her belly some.
"I'll come out and jog with you two after we have some breakfast." |
Vincent chuckles a bit at the huffing and all. She can be stubborn all she wants, but once she lays down, he puts the food down and steps away. "At least she doesn't try to squish me." He says, snorting a bit. "What do you feed them again?" If Don told him, he slept and forgot what he said sadly.
|
"It's a special recipe for them since they have to have a specific diet in order to keep them healthy. They do have slightly different nutrient needs compared to dogs after all." He cleans up the dishes and sets them on a hand towel to dry. The he opens the fridge and pulls out some bacon and eggs.
"Can you handle the bacon while I cook up the eggs? I'm making scrambled eggs for everyone so I need to use the big pan." |
Vincent nods a bit at his words. "Do you buy the food or make it?" Some people make and mix food themselves, some don't. Considering how expensive some animals can be, he'd probably make it to try and be safer with the food and all.
"Yeah, I can handle bacon. Does anyone have a preference on how cooked it ends up?" Beyond not burned, that is. |
Don gets out a big container of cheese followed by a bell pepper, onions, chives and the milk. Throwing in the peppers and onions first he gets those cooked up, then breaks the eggs over them and mixes in some milk. He stirs it around a bit in the pan so that the eggs don't burn and stick to the pan.
"We make it ourselves, much like the treats we give them. And they don't like them too hard, we don't like crunchy bacon." |
"Crunchy bacon is the best bacon." Vincent has to say. "Not burnt bacon, crunchy. There is a difference...I'm one of those people, if it's too chewy...." He then makes a disgusting face and noise as he starts cooking the bacon, turning the pieces often. It might take them longer to cook that way, but they're less likely to burn. "But there are also many levels of cruncy, like poke it and it falls apart...and just barely above nasty chewy bacon crunchy." He's not a normal person in the morning.
|
"I think just above the 'nasty chewy bacon crunchy' as you called it is what we probably like. It's the 'poke it and falls apart' kind we don't like. Unless we want to make bacon bits of course." He chuckles as he finishes up the eggs, sprinkling shredded cheese on top of the whole thing. Letting it cool for a bit he then takes the spatula and divides the eggs four ways. Pulling plates out of the cabinet he gets one for each of them and an extra one for the bacon that he puts a few sheets of paper towels on to soak the grease. At this point they can hear movement from upstairs.
"Seems like they're up now and will probably be done soon, bacon almost done?" |
Vincent laughs a bit. "Hey, I'm one of those people, long as it isn't nasty chewy, I'll eat it...but usually I'll have it with bread." He's weird like that. As the pieces of bacon get done, he places them on the paper towel plate. "Yeah, almost done." He says as he moves the bacon over as it gets cooked enough for everyone. "I love the smell of bacon."
|
Don sets the plates on the table just as his parents are coming down the stairs, saying good morning to the two of them.
"Mhmmm! That smells really good! You both cook really well it seems." His mom sits down at the table, grabbing a few pieces of bacon and placing them on top of her eggs. Don's father snags a couple pieces and eats them as he takes his sit. "Yeah, Vincent seems to be a good cook, but he's probably never made anything fancy. Not that I have either, but better than some single guys." They begin eating, his mom drinking water while him and his dad drink some juice. "Oh! Don, me and you're father are going to a dinner party tonight, its for a fund raising charity to get scholarship money for students. And as the dean I have to go, as much as I'd rather not. So we won't be back until really late." |
Vincent just stretches a bit, popping some joints before sitting down with Don and everything. "No point in fancy when it's just you." He says, shrugging a bit. "The fanciest things I made where in class in high school." He did take home ec. He doesn't mind cooking, he likes it minus cleaning the dishes later. "I know some people who live off of ramen." Which he has too, but that's due to funds, not lack of cooking skills.
He just looks over at Don at his mother's words, thinking that last night might just repeat itself a bit. |
"Well, I hope you two have fun then, its not often you two get to go somewhere together." Don's father nods in agreement while eating his breakfast.
"It's been several months really, what with how busy me and your mom get. You don't have any classes today Don, but you work at the tool shop today, right?" "Yeah, I'm only working a four hour shift though so I'll have time to study. Vincent, do you have work today? I can take you to work early if need be." |
Vincent is just sitting there, not even sure if he should even try to join the conversation. He doesn't want to be that annoying person just butting into the conversation and all so he just listens instead.
He nods a bit. "Yeah, I'm one of the few that they actually give full shifts too." He works in fast food. It kind of sucks, but there's a free meal if he works long enough for the day. |
"Alright, when do you go in? I don't go in until ten myself." Finishing up his parents put their dishes in the sink to be washed, saying their good buys as they go out the kitchen. His mother goes to her car to leave for work while his dad goes upstairs to grab his instrument before heading out to meet up with his group. Taking his plate to the sink as well Don begins washing the dishes.
|
"I have to be there at 9 today." Vincent says, frowning a bit. He dislikes being part of the breakfast rush, even if it's calmed down by that time. "Bye." He says softly when Don's parents get up to leave. He just finishes his food before getting up to help Don with the dishes.
|
"Cool, I have to be in at ten so I can drop you off and head over to my job, so I'll be done by two. I can pack use both something to eat if you want, I usually take a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but if you want something else I can do that too." After cleaning off the dishes he sets them on the rack to dry, stretching a bit as he heads back upstairs.
"Just going to do a quick jog with the girls, ant to come?" |
Vincent nods a bit. "Ah, well, they do this thing where I can get some food for free at lunch." Usually just a meal, but sometimes, they'll let him just get a lot of fries and a drink. "So I'll be fine." And if he doesn't work long enough for that, he waits until he gets home or something. "Ah sure, why not?" He says, padding after Don. He probably stays inside too much anyway.
|
Don quickly changes into his jogging clothes, which is not normally warm enough to wear during the fall going into winter, but with all the activity of jogging it helps to keep him cool. "If you need anything just grab it from my closet. I might have some clothes from when I was younger that would fit you." Once they are ready he leads them back downstairs and grabs a water bottle with water in it from the fridge, handing one to Vincent, "You might need that."
|
"Ah...thank you." Vincent says. Most of his clothes are kind of old, and blue jeans which aren't too productive for jogging. He grabs some sweat pants and all, changing into them and tightening the string a lot. He just follows after Don. "How long do you jog with them?" He asks, making the conversation. "Thank you." He says, smiling a bit.
|
Don can't help but giggle when he sees Vincent come out with his sweats on, being way too big on Vincent.
"Sorry, I think we're going to have to get you some clothes for jogging when you get done work. And I usually jog for at least an hour. And you're welcome" He heads outside, the two girls running up to him with their tails wagging. "You girls ready? We're going to go slower than normal just to make sure we don't kill Vincent with our normal pace." |
Vincent kind of pouts at him. "It isn't funny!" It isn't his fault that Don is gigantic compared to him or anything. He just shakes his head, following after Don. "These are fine." They're comfortable at least, so he has no real complaints. He chuckles a bit at how happy the wolves are. "I won't die. I'll stop. There's a difference." If he feels like he's going to die, he will stop and not die.
