I don't trace, I use bases as general references for poses and as ideals or inserashon for a pose. That one, was done completely of the cuff with no reference. (Other then a photo of a cat used to get a feel of what the orderie wanted from the drawing)

i mean you /use/ traces, the base you use? all the ones i recognise are stolen from popular animes, i am a base-maker and user and i do not condone the use of stolen things you know? which is why i added stipulations like that, didn't say you stole, saying the person you got it from did

Oh that is amazing!
Well I'm still working on the Naga character so that'll have to wait. x3

littl3chocobo 04-14-2012 01:58 PM

no rush sweetie ^^

I just love the way you draw them. ; A;
It's so nice, and my anthro characters tend to scare artists off lmao.

I don't see how you can steal a pose, they are not a copywrightable thing. Just like you can't copyright a color. -shrugs- Untimely the anime and expeashaly manga-ka take pose ideas from all over the place, including other mangas.

I agree with you a little bit in, I would NEVER use a traced base for pixel work. more often then not the one doing the tracing doesn't know a thing about anatomy and leads to...some odd looking bases to say the least. It would take me a year to fix one up to use as a proper base.

However I don't see a problem in using a base for an idea for a pose, half the sodding time I have to change a majority of it anyway. half the people who make bases on DA should have no business in doing so.

littl3chocobo 04-19-2012 12:49 PM

you can copyright a cartoon though and when someone steals a frame of that cartoon then what they make of it, in this case a pose, is stolen

saying 'i want to draw a girl with a leg straight and a leg up with an arm tucked in and another out' is not stealing even if the outcome is the sailormoon pose(that is pose-jacking it is something else)

but taking a clip picture or screencap from a copyrighted source and copying/tracing that image is considered copyright infringement, that small piece is protected under copyright law and using it is a violation of the law and while using that stolen base to make something is covered(there is a clause saying if you change something by a certain percent it is no longer a copyright violation and has to be bickered over in court) it still reeks of the unpleasant because it is still from something stolen and it encourages more theft

when you've done that you have gone from taking a pose(which under certain circumstances /can/ be copyrighted) to taking part of a produced piece

I'm no artist but I've had art mad for me stolen before o .o

littl3chocobo 04-20-2012 12:52 AM

stolen and given or stolen after it was made?

Ishu 04-20-2012 01:42 AM

@Hiei, there are plenty of people on DA who make great bases- you just need to find them. ^^

I really wish #### would be on more than just when I sleep so I can start taking commissions xD

littl3chocobo 04-20-2012 07:49 PM

take them anyway just slower?

Ishu 04-20-2012 09:33 PM

@Chocobo: I just opened an auction. Those tend to work better for me, lol >_> Although, now I'm thinking a legit shop on here would be better. IDK, I just know that I suck at networking and getting "popular" on the internet xD

littl3chocobo 04-20-2012 09:45 PM
