"We will be back shortly. I do not like the sound of that though Solomon." Alicia said as she closed Holden and Solomon's link.
"Ow you didn't have to do that so hard." Holden said grabbing his head. "Sorry I got a little jumpy." She said looking at Holden with a slight smile. "Its ok, I think he will like his present don't you?" Holden asked with a big grin. "Yes I do." She said returning the smile. |
Solomon sighed, "No one will die or have anything altered..relax." He could sense the two were up to something sneaky, but he didn't care. Holden told him he was getting a gift..but..he had a feeling it was more than 'just a gift'. He took a long drag from his nearly depleted cigarette, "Why is it that when those two are together I always get a bad feeling?"
|
Alicia smiled relived.
"We are almost there right?" Holden asked looking at the street signs. "Ya, just about two more blocks." Alicia said looking around. "Ok, I hope he likes it." He said with a nervous smile. "Stop it he will." She said punching his arm gently. It took them about ten minutes to get to Solomon's house from where they were. "Tell him to meet us out by the barn please." Holden said turning into the driveway. "I will." "We are here but you already know that, meet us by the barn please." Alicia said with a smile. |
Solomon was already leaning on the outside wall with his second cigarette as Alicia contacted him, "I'm already there you dork. I had to chase away some Coons. Damn pests trying to get to the feed. Bastards." He brushed some hair from his face as the wind persistently continued to put it in his line of sight. He became confused seeing a large truck with a cattle trailer pulling up, "What..the hell..." Oh he didn't...
|
Alicia laughed.
"What?" Holden asked confused. "Solomon." She said trying to contain another laugh. "I see." Holden said as he saw Solomon. "So much for the surprise." Holden said with a sigh. "He will still love it." She said giving him a reassuring smile. "I hope so this damn trunk wasn't cheep." Holden said with joking smile. "Haha you should be a comedian." She said sarcastically. "Hey that's not nice." He said as he stopped a few feet in front of Solomon. Holden quickly got out of the truck. He put his hands on his hips. "You really know how to ruin a surprise don't you?" Holden said with a boyish smile. |
"But..the..coons.." his face was mildly confused as he pointed to the back of the stables, "They're thieves! The lot of them! Either way, if I wasn't here, when you said 'stables' I had a feeling either way. Not that I'm rather excited, you shouldn't spend your money so frivolously." As Solomon spoke, he came over, giving Holden a hug and a quick kiss on the cheek, "I can smell and hear it a mile away anyway. You can't really surprise a vampire, unfortunately. Next time, I'll try to block it so you can. I promise."
|
"It's not frivolous." He said with a smile. "Maybe I need to cut off your ears and nose then." Holden said hugging Solomon back. He smiled "So there will be a next time?" He said slightly red in the face. He grabbed Solomon's hand and started pulling him to the trailer. "Now I have been working on this since I heard about Rilov." He said with a smile. He stopped next to the trailer, "So what do you think?" Holden asked very proud of himself.
Inside the trailer was a medium sized black quarter horse. "He's about two years old, the owner said." Holden said still smiling. "Oh hopefully this is ok but he is a stallion." He said still smiling. |
Solomon kept his distance, sensing the horse's distress right now. The quarter horse was a fine stallion, but he had a feeling Holden this this because of Rilov. He was proud of Holden though, he certainly did pick out a wonderful horse. "Stallions are fine..they're just harder to control than Mares. He is rather stunning. Boy's got some muscles on him."
Solomon quickly grabbed hold of the young stallions panicking mind, trying to settle him, "I would suggest you lead him to a stall Holden. He isn't responding very well to me. I will work with him, of course, and let him adjust to my presence. He'll be a bit loud until Rilov and Zeze get here..should be the end of the week when they get here. Although, now I guess would be a good time to present you with your 21st birthday gift. And just so you know, you copied me." He placed his fingers to his lips and whistled loudly for two seconds. It startled the young stallion in the trailer, causing him to snort and try to rear. Solomon quickly began working to calm him down, "At least, he won't be alone." Moments later, a bright copper colored horse came galloping around the corner of the pasture's shelter. The horse came to a stop quite a distance away from the fence, still unsure of Solomon's presence. Solomon extended his arm, as a matter of presenting the horse as it nervously trotted side to side. Solomon gently entered it's mind, sending a calming feeling over her as well as the stallion. "Her name is..well..undecided right now. I thought you'd like to name her. She is a 3 year old Appaloosa, not only that, she's extra special since Appa's are usually spotted beyond belief, to say. See?" He pulled out a print out from his pocket, showing Holden the traditional brown/white/grey spotted coloring Appaloosa's generally had. "Like I said, you copied me." |
Holden's eyes got wide. "Well it doesn't matter who copied who, but I love her. She is very beautiful." He said wrapping his arms around Solomon's neck and giving him a kiss. "They can be friends, or more." Holden said with a wink. He let go of Solomon, and went over to the horse in the pasture. He held out his hand and the horse sniffed it. "You very beautiful." Holden said with a smile. He turned and looked at Solomon. "I know you two need to talk so why don't you go do that while I take care of your horse." He said cocking his head.
Alicia teleported to Solomon's study. He walked up to the trailer and opened the gate. "Shhh its ok." Holden said trying to calm the horse down. He clipped the lead rope onto the horse's halter. "Gently now." He said as he led the horse out of the trailer. "Ya your a good boy." He said as he led the horse into the barn. He put him in the stall right next to the his horse. |
Solomon nodded, giving him a quick kiss back, "You're welcome to join the conversation at any time. You know where to find me." With that he teleported to his study to find Alicia already there. He shoved his hands into his pockets again, a wide smile on his face and that devious look in his eyes.
|
"I know." He said with a smile.
"What is that look? Please tell me it has nothing to do with you two." Alicia said moving her fingers. She zoned out for a second, and then shivered. "Sorry, but what is that look for?" Alicia asked tilting her head. |
Solomon laughed, "Well, of course, you know I have human servants, correct? Well, why am I allowed to leave them alone, but not Holden? I'll tell you why dammit," He paused with a shrug, "because they are a necessity to my well-being. I refuse to drink that refrigerated crap from the blood banks. I like it hot and fresh, so I need a few humans on my property to provide such nourishment. The agreed, of course. So, I went to the Council, and convinced them that Holden is my..portable..bank so to say. Although, of course, he's much more, but they don't need to know. Correct?"
|
"Well you are a sneaky one, but the council will find out soon. They will want him dead or turned when they find out and I know you know that." Alicia said with a slight smile. "Most likely dead though." She said with a sigh. "At least you forgave him." She said with a smile. "You two are perfect for each other though. You got him a horse and he did you, and they are opposite genders to." She said as she twirled on her heels to go back outside.
|
"I never said I've forgiven him, Alicia. Eventually, I will. I'm not one for grudges." He went over to the window, watching Holden move the horses, "Are they being rowdy? If so, let them back to the pasture but if they seem calm leave 'em be. They'll adjust." He turned, hearing Alicia walk out, "Where are you going?"
|
"I know you will." She said with a smile. "I was gonna go and check on Holden. I thought we were done." Alicia said whirling around to look at Solomon. "Unless there was something else you wanted to talk about." She said looking worried.
|
Solomon shook his head, "I was just curious. Just stay out of the barn alright? Preferably down wind to. Those guys are stressed enough as it is." He smiled slightly, walking out and to the closed door right next to the study. "I could use a few hours of sleep..that plane was not a good place to try it. Either way, I know he probably knows this, but make sure he stays on the ground. No riding. I can tell he's eager to." He opened the door, entered and shut the door, allowing himself to just fall onto the bed.
|
"I will." Alicia said with a smile. "Sleep tight, and I will remind him." She said as she went down the stairs. She made it outside by the barn. "Holden remember no riding." She said peering into the barn.
"I know!" He yelled back. "Damn he knew I was gonna try." He said smiling at the horse. "Your a good boy aren't you?" Holden asked as he pet the horse. The horse let out a content snort. Holden laughed, "Well you didn't have to sneeze all over me." He said with a smile. "I should go check on your new friend." Holden said with a wave. "Now don't look sad I will be back." Holden said with a smile. |
Solomon chuckled slightly as he heard Holden. Of course I knew..I know all. He placed his arm over his eyes, blocking out the light. He knew he wouldn't sleep well, or at all at this point. All he wanted to do was break those two horses before his other two arrived.
|
Holden walked out by the horse that Solomon gave him. "Shh girl its ok." He said as he walked to her slowly. The horse was slightly apprehensive. "I'm not going to hurt you." He said as he held out his hand. The horse slowly walked up to Holden, and put her nose into his hand. "Ya that's a good girl." He said with a slight chuckle. "I think I will name you Kali." He said with a smile. The horse shook her head. "So you like that?" He asked very amused. "Come let's get you inside, I'm hungry and I am sure you are." He said as he grabbed Kali's halter. He led her into the barn and put her in the stall next to the other new horse. "Now you two be nice. I will come and give you food after I eat ok?" He asked knowing they were scared of each other. He walked out of the barn and saw Alicia, "I think I'm getting the hang of calming horses down." He said grabbing her arm.
"I agree with you, now you better eat like you said you would. Just ask for Anne she will make you some food." Alicia said as she led Holden into the house. *** |
Solomon sighed as he slowly came out of his sleep. He noticed Holden was now inside, perhaps getting something to eat. He better be..its been over 36 hours..poor boy must be starving He was content to lay there though, enjoying the relaxing moments of time. With a sigh, he sat up, narrowing his eyes, "What, Jaclynn?"
"Don't take that tone with me. You may have everyone else fooled, but I know the truth. As soon as your little act of stalling is up, I will do my job, and what you should've done days ago." She laughed then disappeared. Solomon sighed, laying back on the bed. She was right though. It would only buy them so much time. Hopefully, by then, Solomon could make a decision about Holden. |
"He's gonna have to be turned soon you know." Alicia said as she felt Jaclynn disappear. "Now Holden eat." She said demanding.
"I will, just be quiet." Holden said as he took a bit of the food in front of him. "Mmm this is really good." He said with a slight bit of food left in his mouth. "How much do vampires have to eat?" He asked as he grabbed another bit. "It depends, if we use our powers a lot then we have to feed a lot. If we hardly use our powers then we can go two months at most without blood. That's also depending on the vampire." She said crossing her arms. Holden nodded and kept eating. This was the best lunch he's ever had. |
"Yes I know, I will worry about it when the time comes again. For now, I'm just going to let Holden enjoy the peace." Finally, Solomon got out of bed, heading over to his closet. He picked out a a red vest, white shirt, black slacks, and a fresh black tie. He smiled, quickly changing and tying the tie.
He headed downstairs to where Holden and Alicia were in the kitchen. "Anne is a wonderful chef, isn't she?" He smiled, leaning on the counter and crossed his arms. "Sometimes, I have her whip me up something just because she's so great." |
"Yes she is." He smiled. "Can I help you train the horses?" Holden asked with bright eyes. He took a drink of water, and took the last bite of food on his plate. He got up and walked over to Anne. "You are a wonderful person, and there's something about you. I'm gonna have to paint you one of these day's." He said as he gave Anne a hug.
"Your a wonderful person to Holden." Anne said hugging him back. |
Solomon nodded, "Of course Holden. When you're ready, you can meet me out there. I'm going to give them some hay and let them in the outdoor arena. Alright? I would suggest staying in here or finding something else to do Alicia. I think two vampires might scare them a bit much." He walked up to Holden, pulling him close and giving him a quick kiss before heading outside.
|
"I was gonna go and check on my mom. I'll see you later Holden." Alicia said as she gave Holden quick hug. She teleported to her mom.
"Ok." Holden said hugging Alicia back. "Solomon." He said as he caught up to him. "I named my horse her name is Kali. What are you gonna name your horse?" He asked walking right next to Solomon. |
"Don't you want to shower? Ah, you're just going to get dirty again I suppose. Either way, I haven't decided yet. I'm waiting for just the right one to come to mind." He wrapped his arm around Holden's waist as they walked. "Kali you say? A wonderful name."
After a few minutes they finally reached the newly built barn, "You want to turn them out after I get the hay out? Be sure to keep their halters on. We'll let them roam about for a moment before we do anything else. I just want to make sure they can be in a pasture together. Give me about...4 minutes?" He let Holden go, changing course to the left to where he had all the hay stored. He grabbed a bale and threw up onto his shoulder, hefting it out to the arena. He split it into three piles then hurried out figuring Holden was about to lead one of the horses out. |
"Thanks." He said with a smile. "Ya I can do that, I won't take them off. Ok." He said as he went to Kali's stall. "Hey sweety are you doing ok?" He asked as he opened the door. He walked in and clipped the lead rope onto her halter. "Come on." He said gently pulling on the rope. Kali followed Holden out to the arena. He unclipped the lead rope from her halter. "I'm gonna go get the other horse." He said as he closed the fence.
|
Solomon leaned on the wooden fence, watching the young Appaloosa roam around the arena. He was pondering over names for the black Stallion. He mulled over a few names, nodding a few times as he decided on a name. "Oh that reminds me..I'll need to order them some tack. Damn, I completely forgot.."
|
Holden got to the stallion's stall. "It's gonna be ok." He said as he opened the door. He clipped the lead rope onto the horses halter. "Let's go." He said as he led the horse out. "I think you are gonna love Kali, she is very beautiful." He said as he made it to the arena. He led the horse in and shut the fence, he unclipped the lead rope and went over by Solomon. "Am I crazy? I'm talking to the horses like they are people." Holden said as he leaned up against the fence.
|
Solomon shook his head, "Not at all. I do it all the time. Don't you recall back at the fair?" Solomon watched the two horses as they went about the arena. Every now and then when they got too close to each other, one would squeal and the other would try to nip. Solomon gently entered their minds, trying to settle them down just as the wind changed directions.
His scent wafted into their noses sending them into a bit of a craze. "A dammit...I knew that was going to happen." He ducked into the arena, going through the slots in the fence, but remained on near the fence. The stallion bucked and snorted, falsely charging a few times before backing off and galloping to the other side of the arena. Kali on the other hand, remained. The horse had been here a bit longer than the stallion, so she wasn't quite as nervous. |
"Oh ya." Holden said with a chuckle. Holden got a little nervous when the stallion went a little crazy. Holden went to the other side of the arena to calm him down. "Shh its ok boy, he's not going to hurt you." Holden said as he slowed down his steps so he wouldn't spook him anymore than he already was. The horse stepped close to Holden, he headbutted Holden in the chest knocking him the the ground. "Now that wasn't nice." Holden said not trying to get up. The horse looked down at Holden, and started to rub his head on Holden's chest. "Well if you had an itch all you had to do was ask." Holden said with a smile looking back at Solomon.
|
Solomon was about to stop Holden, but froze. Holden would have to learn to recognize horse behavior anyway. Besides, he might be able to calm the stallion. "Just make sure he doesn't get a good whiff of you..you smell a bit like me from contact. Although, it might do him some good, but just stay out there for now." He slowly approached Kali, speaking soothingly to her while keeping her mind calm, "Shh, it's alright girl. I'm not going to hurt you." He got about 3 yards away when she squealed, reared up, and hurried off to the other corner. He sighed, it was progress.
|
"Shh your a good boy." Holden said with a smile, as the stallion still rubbed his head on his chest. "I can help you." He said as he started to scratch the horses head. "There that's better right, can I get up now?" He asked as the horse backed up a bit. "I think he might actually understand me." He thought to himself as he stood up. Holden patted off his pants to get the dirt off.
|
Solomon rolled his eyes, lacing his fingers behind his back, whistling loudly to Kali. She trotted over, extending her nose out to Solomon as she stopped about 4 yards away. After a moment she snorted and threw her head, turning sharply and trotting off. "I'm just as stubborn as you are hun." He looked to Holden, "If you wanted to take him in to the indoor arena you can. You two should be alright, yeah? Or, just be wary of Kali."
He stepped over to the far side, whistling again to call her over. This time, she was only about 5 feet away from him. Her nostrils were flared as she sniffed him from her safe distance. "That's a good girl, Kali. I'm not going to hurt you." He continued to sweet talk her, slowly reaching out his hand. Suddenly her ears flattened and she came forward, biting hard on his fingers. Solomon winced, but made no noise as she pulled her teeth along his skin as she galloped off. "Ow," he said flatly as he looked at his hand, watching it heal. "Now that wasn't very nice Kali." |
"I should be fine here, no offense but she doesn't hate me." Holden said with a smile, looking at Solomon. All of a sudden the stallion headbutted Holden in the chest again, but not knocking him to the ground. "What? Your head itch again?" He asked scratching the horses head again. He heard Solomon say 'ow'. "Are you ok?" He asked turning to Solomon while still scratching the horses head. "You should go meet Solomon, he is a nice guy." He said grabbing the stallion by the halter. "He wont hurt you, trust me ok?" He asked the horse while leading him over by Solomon. They made it about ten feet away from Solomon, "See he isn't gonna hurt you." He said pulling the horse closer. He pulled the stallion about five feet in front of Solomon. "Your still ok." The horses ears were straight up and you could see the whites of his eyes. "Its ok we will go back." Holden said as he backed the stallion up. "Shhh." He said still backing up.
|
Solomon looked over as Holden led the stallion over, "Be careful." He knew Holden would be able to handle it, but it still helped him feel better to say something. Suddenly he felt a rather narrow head push him forward. "Hey!" He stumbled forward a bit and turned to see Kali, who proceeded to snort and cover him in snot.
Solomon's expression went from surprise to disgust faster than Holden's heart could move a beat. He sighed, rolling his eyes, "You are a very naughty horsie.' He laughed, reaching out to the young horse. She snorted, pushing his hand with her nose, "Aw see? I'm not so scary once you cover me in snot." He tentatively took a step forward. He could sense Kali's apprehension rise. "Shhh, it's alright dear." He took another cautious step forward as she relaxed a bit. "Yeah, that's a good girl." Finally he got close enough to pet her neck. He smiled, gently petting her alongside her neck, talking soothingly to her. |
Holden laughed when Kali sneezed. "I guess she doesn't hate you that much." He said still laughing. He stopped backing the horse up, "See if she likes him you can to." He said as he scratched the stallion's head again. "Plus if it helps I like him a lot to." He said looking at Solomon's butt. "He has a nice butt don't you think?" Holden asked with a smile. He knew Solomon heard him say that. "You didn't hear that Solomon." Holden said with a chuckle.
|
"Of course not, Holden..I'm as deaf as a worm." He chuckled slightly massaging Kali's body, "Feels good don't it?" He moved forward slightly, to scratch her face, when she whinnied and scampered off. Solomon stood there, a bit flabbergasted, "Oh..kay?"
He turned to Holden and the stallion, "So I've been thinking..and what do you think about his name being Damien? I've always favored that name I suppose. It's just a..interesting name to fit his personality." He stepped a bit closer, standing 4 yards away, just to make sure he didn't crowd the stallion to much. |
"That sounds like a good name, what do you think?" Holden asked the stallion. The horse nickered, "I guess that means he likes it." He said with a smile. Holden let go of Damien and walked over to Solomon. "You know I haven't showed you my appreciation for Kali." He said as he gave Solomon a passionate kiss. He broke the kiss when he felt something tug on his jacket. "What in the...?" He asked as he turned around. "It's ok Damien he's not hurting me. Or are you just jealous?" He asked with a smile. The horse put his nose up to Holden's face, "Oh I see." He said with a slight chuckle. He placed a kiss on Damien's nose, "There not as jealous?" He asked tilting his head. Damien shook his head no, "Well Solomon I think you might have some competition." Holden said with a laugh.
|
Solomon laughed a bit at the stallion, "He's mine and you can't have him. Now shoo, I'll be working with you later." Solomon turned his attention back to Holden, "It'll be no contest." He gave him a wink, giving him a quick kiss. "I think by next week, we could probably start breaking them for riding. Kali's got some experience in the matter, but do you know anything about Damien's experience?"
