A game that I used to play (TERA) has also been doing that lately. Besides the fact that the females get a lot of pretty cash shop outfits, there've also been two new classes that are both female-locked.

And the cash shop outfits are often only for Elins, the lolita animal girl race.

....One of the reasons I stopped playing.

ml1201 12-21-2014 08:22 AM

I think I had been looking into that game at some point but never did join, now I'm glad I never did. It took a lot of complaining from the users on UF to get more male items but with every release they do try to release either male only or both gender items for people. :3

Espy 12-21-2014 07:02 PM

I mean, TERA is really good gameplay-wise, but....yeah.

Obsidian 12-21-2014 09:28 PM

Well, I enjoy these avatar sites. >->
Even if mine isn't a success, I'm not going to shut her down, heh. It's not like it takes a whole lot of money to keep mine opened. I just really enjoy it overall.
And I'd really hope Trisphee doesn't ever get shut down. I really love the art on here. Even tho I don't post a whole lot, I really do love jumping on here to see any new updates.
Which kind of disappoints me that there isn't any December monthlies. Does anyone know if there are going to be any for January? These no-monthly months may end up hurting this place if it becomes a habit. I know of one site who'd do the on and off thing for awhile and they're completely dead. I don't want that to happen to Trisphee. =/

ml1201 12-21-2014 09:54 PM

I was actually looking for them too, in at least the donation items if not the egg items. And all they really had to be was maybe some recolors of old donation items if it would save time. :3

Yeah, it would at least give something. :p-nod:

Espy 12-21-2014 11:51 PM

I think...someone did mention something a while ago about not wanting to become like Gaia and just re-releasing old DIs in new colors. Slightly different context, though.

Obsidian 12-22-2014 12:36 AM

Anything is better than nothing, in my personal opinion.

ml1201 12-22-2014 01:04 AM

I have to agree with Obsidian on that, granted its nice to have new items, but we understand that it also takes more time to make new ones than old ones, so if recolors are all there is time for (especially with the holidays) then that's what we'll have to deal with. :3

Pinterest is the best example I can offer. It launched in 2010 and is currently enjoying being the 28th most visited website on the Internet. Imgur is another good example, having launched in 2009 and holding the #43 spot, as are Stack Overflow (2008, #60), Twitch (2011, #233), and Vine (2013, #805).

Medium and Storify look like they may be up-and-coming players, as they both launched this year and are already getting a lot of traffic. Time will tell if they endure.

Lawtan 12-22-2014 07:21 PM

Twitch, and vine, I can see. The others. as they are at least 4 years old, I didn't consider new sites.

Oh yes! Gothic themed is awesome! XD Being being able to miss it up when you want is also good. XD And is it okay if I call you Yoku?

I assume most people at least think Yoku, even I do especially when it comes to games with limited characters...then I just put Yoku XD

Well, on Gaia right now, mine isn't that gothic, it has demon wings? I guess it would be considered sceneish? -narrows eyes-

ml1201 12-23-2014 11:34 AM

I have no idea what mine here would be considered. x'D I also have a thing for vests. owo

You can't ask for both "new sites" and "lifespan" in the same question. :P I picked examples of stuff that's relatively recent that has increased in traffic as the avatar site fad has faded.

But I did pick a couple examples of contenders that might get there.

Lawtan 12-23-2014 08:24 PM

*shrugs* Perhaps I'm too pessimistic. Sort of go in expecting failure in most things.

Coda 12-23-2014 10:18 PM

Well, you're not wrong. Most things do fail. You'll always find more examples of failures than successes.

Yokuutsu 12-25-2014 03:32 AM

Most small businesses fail in 5 years or less, and avatar websites can be small businesses since they do sell pixel items for real money?

-one thing I learned from my business classes- Wooo

Coda 12-25-2014 06:48 PM

That's exactly the figure I meant.

Lawtan 12-28-2014 12:45 AM

One thing that is also sad is the lack of, from what I can tell, written communication on those newer sites. Don't know if it is the speed at which things feel like they are going, or that images (especially moving ones) attract people more than talking to people, or what.

And it's sad because Trisphee is 5 years old or at least almost 5... Are we talking open years, or beta years?

I wouldn't be surprised if this site is closed down soon. The site is hanging on a thread and support for the site is tossed around or in hands of very few people who put a ton of effort in to keep this running. But other then that there are plans for the site, that.. Just can't get a leg in. People have their own lives, and have sadly lost interest in the site.

We have threads trying to get people in, great suggestions thrown around but I think it's at the point where the site is going to die simply because no one is truly running the site, only backing it up and holding it from collapsing. But it won't be too long until someone gets tired out and has Trisphee collapse on the,.

We never advertised it was only by word of mouth, no ads = no extra revenue, no gimmicks to keep people here, a lot of people have moved on from Gaia but we never truly tried to capture that audience, and their is simply no value left in the site. :/
But I've noticed the trend the more I talk down about how Trisphee is fairing the worse the site gets. So I question whether bringing up the problems is bad because it's scaring people away in some way, or if it's bad to bring up these problems and never to have any single one solved for years now.

Nintendo for example is proof that Avatar sites aren't dead. (I know their a video game company, just hear me out.) People have been stating right when the Wii U was released it was dead, look at it now. Japan's audiences said console gaming was dead, look at the Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One. People tell Nintendo that their games don't sell LOOK AT THE BLOODY TOP SELLING GAMES OF THIS YEAR. The say can be said about animated movies, then poof! Here comes Frozen.

What I learned from any of these companies you just keep supporting something with the intention to keep improving until you hit gold. And Trisphee kept improving until it hit huge setbacks, people left, and then it became the way it is now. :/ I spit on the idealism of the new factor, but I can't deny there are some elements from that idealism in the works.

-Shrugs- I like to bring up problems and spot them, I'll occasionally suggest solutions that go unused. So I try to not bother with that anymore. This site is definitely going to die the way it's going, but I'm just going to have the most fun I can with everyone until it's gone.

Coda 12-28-2014 02:42 PM

The only thing keeping the site down is a lack of pixelists. That means no items; that means no assets for site development or games. No items and no games means no events.

Seriously. Give me a good pixelist and I'll make things happen.

Ginger 12-28-2014 05:50 PM

Damn I'll look around on Deviantart. Would anyone like to help me hunt for a good pixelist or two?

Espy 12-28-2014 07:44 PM

Thing is, Tris can't afford to pay artists /real actual money/ and lots of artists are, well, looking for that.

ml1201 12-28-2014 07:57 PM

I know someone who's pretty good at pixeling, but I think she'd rather have real money and not just donation currency. A lot of people are trying to make money off their art now and not many are doing it on the side. There's someone else I could mention it to who's a fantastic pixel artist (though they don't normally do anime style) but I don't know how much time she'd be able to devote to the site if she were interested because she's looking to get a job in a lab since I think she has a doctorates in biology. ^^;

Yokuutsu 12-28-2014 09:07 PM

I don't know how to pixel or anything....else I'd try to make items D:

If nothing else they could be for aurum or something D: I'll see if I know anyone that can pixel.

DO NOT COUNT ON ME THOUGH....I don't know many people .-.

And you guys never bother to ask me for anything. Or did you mean REALLY good artists? xD

I can only get better over time, and some fairly decent items is better then no items at all. If you can guys can provide decent concept art, I can provide decent pixels.

Sucks that you guys have lack of devoted pixelists. I'm still a newb at tool-shading, so I just stick to the pixeling I'm best at, heh.

I don't really know any tool-shading pixelists else I'd send them your way.

Did someone say they needed a pixel artist?
I came over here from Syndrone Online because two of their users really suck and I was being harassed plus their management is awful and the original owner of the site is a criminal so I am looking for a better place.
Anyways, I do my pixel art in Photoshop Version 5, but I heard you guys need peeps who do tool shading. I'm not entirely sure what that is but I'm sure I could learn it pretty quick.

*You don't need to pay me at all to do your pixel art. All I ask is that I'm credited properly and that the users don't harass me if they don't like the things you guys ask me to pixel or let me pixel. I'd just like people to know as an artist I exist. Critique is allowed and the such and of course people are going to have opinions, I get that. It's just one of Syndrone's artists left the staff role because they were being harassed and the such really badly.
I hope this community has friendlier people in it. I really do. I joined a few months ago or so but I haven't really been active.
I have some examples of my work here:
https://www.weasyl.com/~aiko
Most of the pixel work I do is in my gallery, but I can also do huge pixel images with things moving and talk sprites pretty decently.
Please get back to me about this when you can. I'd really like to help the site.

Illusion 12-29-2014 12:50 PM

I... I can't believe you would even have to specify that you don't want harassment from users about your art.
Was it that bad over there?

Yes. A lot of the users there are trolls or just really biased.
EDIT: I'll add onto this because I hate short sentences like the one above in just one thread, a haha.
If I got a place on this site I'd be happy, because then I'd have a chance to put my skills into full gear instead of just doing basic commissions on DeviantART. I'd be very happy to do pixel art for this site for free.

Coda 12-29-2014 01:50 PM

Tell you what, both of you -- why don't you submit an application? Try your best to imitate the Trisphee art style. Grab one of the bases from the avatar editor, pixel a couple of items onto it, and e-mail it to admin@trisphee.com and we'll review it.

I managed to dig up an old tutorial made by Lucid. See if it helps: http://daxxen.deviantart.com/art/Tri...rial-337266826

Take special note that we usually work in grayscale to make it easier to recolor things, since we always release every item in at least three colors.

Alright! Give me a couple of hours, and I'll send it to that email. Should I send it in a PSD file or just jpeg with all of the layers merged or PNG? Also how long would it take for you guys to respond?
EDIT:
Also, where could I find the avatar editor?

Coda 12-29-2014 02:24 PM

I meant just the normal Trisphee avatar page, where you pick what items you're wearing. I call that the avatar editor.

In general we want either PSDs (for items with multiple colors) or grayscale PNGs (for items that only need a single gradient), although if you get the job and want to save Gallagher some work you can go ahead and package up the items in the format Trisphee's backend needs.

Edit: As for response time... Given that it's the holidays it might be a few days before we can all take a look.

Madame-Aiko 12-29-2014 02:28 PM

Ah, alright. Well I'll definitely send it to you guys in PSD with the layers separated then as well as a PNG image. And in grayscale, color, or both? I mean I find it easier when I do things in color but I can always adjust!

Coda 12-29-2014 03:16 PM

Probably should get used to working in grayscale. It really does make recolors easier.

Madame-Aiko 12-29-2014 03:41 PM

Very well. Also, how often do you guys hold events and the such to get new items? I'd like to know how often you guys will need me in the possibility I get hired.

Illusion 12-29-2014 04:33 PM

Blaaah. I have no creativity for designing something at the moment -table flip-
Just spent 2 hours pixeling then deleting half the stuff I made because I didn't like the design itself.

This is what I get for dribbling things down on paper in less then 5 minutes and then decided to pixel them. DX

Someone! Give me an idea... (Scratch that, I recall Ginger asking me to do her items at some point. I have to dig out where she made that post..)

Edit: Scratch scratch that I can't find them. Where is Lucid when you need her...?

Coda 12-29-2014 04:53 PM

We release new items every month that consist of a variety of different poses (take a look at the monthlies in the shop right now). We do 2-4 events per year depending on what kind of items and writing we can come up with. Plus there are some unannounced projects that are on hold due to lack of assets.

In other words... there's a lot of work that needs done.

Madame-Aiko 12-29-2014 04:55 PM

I see. Well... I am almost done with the pixel work. *Phew* I did some boots, fingerless gloves, and a choker so far.

Madame-Aiko 12-29-2014 06:29 PM

Alright, I have finished and emailed both the PSD, jpeg, and png file to them. Can't wait to see what you guys think! :)
