Updated first post with some news

bluebird 12-08-2017 01:15 AM

!!i'm happy they're up and running again, but they...they bought it back from baz?
i need to do some catching up. >>;

Espy 12-08-2017 01:21 AM

Yeah... I'm not too happy about needing to buy it back from Baz, but like Fozzy said, they're putting user satisfaction over spite. Which I respect. Apparently one of Fozzy's friends bought it, and Fozzy will have to pay them back once Voltra gets up and running again.

So, I feel like a little of the information in that update was confusing regarding items. It initially sounded like we're all getting our items back, but then later stated(or sounded like I guess) that all items would be basically assigned a volt value and returned as currency?
I mean, tbh, that's fine I guess, although I'd prefer if my DIs could be assigned a donation currency value instead of volts...

Espy 12-08-2017 01:30 PM

I, uh, actually didn't read through everything. But from what Fozzy said earlier, they've a list of what everyone's donated, so we'll have all of our Ohms back, not just the ones we had left.

Kaderin Triste 12-08-2017 01:44 PM

Direct quote from the last announcement:
"...we have plans to exchange all “old items” (excluding Crate Items, MIs, and EIs) for a volt value."

Nothing is mentioned about ohms, which leads me to believe that we will only be getting Volts and not Ohms or items.

They also didn't mention anything about returning donation currency, so I guess one could also assume that you will get full total donation currency returned AND get the volt value of the items, but that was never really explained at all. So I really don't know.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I find it amusing that they don't have Amps, since that would be the most appropriate thing for a currentcy.

It should come as no surprise that the users are meeting this with resistance. After all, their accounts were charged for the stuff they have.

In all seriousness, though, I thought they got back the database. Why would they have this kind of data loss?

Derpy McBlueEyes 12-08-2017 03:25 PM

I mean, I don't know the full sitch, but basically what I got out of the last announcement is that they still have all the items and everything, it just all needs to be re-uploaded. I also thought, based on how it sounded, that all the inventories are saved, so I don't really know why the reimbursement has to happen. When they re-upload the items, wouldn't they theoretically be in the inventories? Unless they plan to delete everyone's inventory...
I don't really have any knowledge about how this stuff operates though, so maybe I'm wrong.
Either way, I'm pretty wary about returning at all. I might give them a second chance, but it wasn't as friendly there as it is here and I really was starting to struggle to actually have people converse outside of the rare event post.

Also...well punned, Coda. XD

coda your puns. i could die.

Update:
"We just want to conclude with a few quick clarifications based on the questions we’ve been seeing around the community. All returning users should expect to find that their original accounts are still valid and available once the site comes back up. You will still have your volts, your ohms, your crate items, your milestones, your event items, and your posts! The only thing you will be lacking upon your first login are the commons you purchased prior to the Blackout--you’ll instead be granted an equivalent amount in volts so that you can repurchase commons of your choice.
The reason for this is twofold: first, part of the site’s revamp is including a massive improvement to the inventory and avatar system. This improvement will allow items to be uploaded a lot faster and will allow for a lot more customization, but is so different from our old system that keeping common inventories would require uploading all items twice--and with something like 4k items to upload, that would be a huge delay in site release time.
But our second reason for going with volts over old commons is way more exciting--one great bonus to the new system is that it makes recoloring easier, meaning that we can afford to expand our options a little, and we’d hate if you bought your entire common inventory in, say, cobalt, only to see a new color that you love way more. So by granting you volts instead, you can rebuy in your favorite colors! Keep an eye out for previews of those new colors, because you never know when they might show up."

I missed this update to say the least lol

Espy 12-21-2017 05:41 PM

I think I've missed a couple updates lately, too :|

Kaderin Triste 12-21-2017 06:52 PM

I feel better about the crate items, etc.now. A little sad that I'll have to re-buy commons if I decide to return, but it's understandable given the updates they're planning.

Updated the first post w a new announcement.

TLDR Alpha 2.0 starts Feb 1 and is expected to last a month. New colors, new DIs.

bluebird 01-25-2018 11:49 PM

a month. rip. i'll take it tho

Espy 01-26-2018 12:05 AM

like, is that too long or too short?

I feel like they should've had the initial alpha last longer.
