Nic was quiet for awhile before poking the bear a little. "... Which one of those do I fit under?" he suddenly asked.
Laurel blinked, considering his question for a moment. "Hmm... well since food is what I feed the animals, and I've always fed you... I guess that puts you under animals." she decided, trying to keep a straight face but failed pretty quickly, collapsing into laughter again.
Nic's expression didn't change, but still he somehow seemed pleased with himself as he tried the sweet bun.
It was pretty much how Laurel had described it to be. Sweetened, but not overly so. It was a nice companion to the coffee.
Laurel sighed a little, leaning back and relaxing, "Nah, you're in your own category." she informed him honestly, "One I didn't even know existed." Her eyes were loving as she contently watched him eat. |
It didn't take him long to finish the sweet bun and polish off the coffee.
"You want another one?" she offered with an amused smile.
Nic shook his head. "I'm full," he replied.
Laurel chuckled, "You should eat more on a regular basis." she informed him with a nod, "What else do you like besides Thai?"
Nic had to put some thought into this too. But after awhile he was able to give her a few more dishes, all with strong flavors like the Thai food.
Laurel nodded, "You're a foodie." she informed him, "I think you're the type of guy that needs a woman around to cook for you." she chuckled, eyes twinkling with teasing.
Nic blinked, not quite clear about what she meant by that.
"Do you even know how to cook?" she inquired further, leaning in a little with an amused smirk.
Nic nodded.
Laurel raised her eyebrows a little in surprise, "You should cook more." she decided, "You were practically starved when I found you so I assumed you don't cook often or at all." she explained with a shrug.
Nic paused briefly before nodding again. "I don't have the time to cook," he replied.
Laurel nodded, that made sense. "You usually don't have time for anything but work." she added, "No time to brush your hair, shave, shower regularly, change your clothes..." her voice trailed off as she smirked, "Oh, I forgot, I'm sure your flowery scent sent the ladies running as well, right?"
Nic blinked as if he didn't get what she was implying.
Laurel chuckled, "Your hygiene isn't always the best." she teased more bluntly.
"I don't have bad hygiene," Nic retorted.
Laurel snickered, clearly disagreeing. "You look decent right now." she noted, "But most of the time you spend the day looking like you just rolled out of bed." she informed him.
"I don't smell bad," he countered.
"Most of the time." Laurel relented, still smirking.
Nic didn't try to argue with her further.
Laurel continued to be amused for a bit before sighing, "As soon as the others start coming back, our lives will be chaos again I suppose." she mused, "Who are we kidding? We don't have time for a relationship either."
Nic shrugged.
"How's this going to work, Nic?" she asked, pinching off a small piece of bread and rolling it in-between her fingers.
"We'll figure it out," he replied. "It will get easier once the gang wars calm down."
Laurel nodded then paused, "Oh, I need a cell phone." she told him, "Mine got lost somewhere... it was old anyway. I can keep the same number, right? Just a new phone model?"
"... Where did you lose it?" he asked.
Laurel thought about it for a moment, "I don't know." she admitted, "My stuff's been moved around so much it just got lost."
"When did you know it was lost?" he asked.
"Umm..." Laurel paused, "I... think it was..." she scratched behind her ear, "When we first came to James's." she decided, "I realized it but figured calling from a tablet would be easier. It's not a big deal though... right? I can just get a new phone?"
"... We can look into it when the others get back," Nic replied. "What was your old number?"
Laurel told him and sighed, "I probably have a million voice messages." she muttered, "My loans must have skyrocketed now that I've not been paying the interest."
"We'll figure it out," Nic reassured Laurel, putting a hand on her arm.
Laurel glanced at his hand before smiling and putting her hand on top of it, "Oh, I know." she reassured him, "That's the least of my worries right now." she nodded, looking back into his eyes.
Nic didn't say anything else.
"So... what do you do on a date after you eat?" she asked, a little curious.
"... Depends," Nic replied.
"On what?" she asked.
