After Nic had changed, he came out and walked over to the coffee.
Laurel was sitting on the couch, knees drawn up to her chest and staring at her toes. "Sorry." she murmured as Nic reached his coffee, "When you said..." she paused, "It made me wonder how far you'd go and it scared..." she sighed a little, "Just forget it, alright? You know I'd never ask for that."
Nic didn't say anything as he picked up his coffee. He started to move to take a sip but paused, staring strangely into the cup.
Laurel looked up at Nic when he didn't respond. She watched him for a moment before sighing again, "It's a heart." she explained, feeling a little silly and small.
Nic stared at it a moment longer before he seemed to get it. He moved to take a sip again, but stopped once more before carefully sitting the cup down.
Laurel blinked, "It tastes the same." she explained after a moment, "It's just decoration."
"... If I drink it, it will ruin it," Nic explained.
Laurel blinked, "I can make it again..." she offered after a moment, "You already drank one with a heart decoration. I don't think you noticed it though." she shrugged a little, resting her chin on top of her knees.
Nic blinked, not seeing how he had missed it before. After staring at the cup for a little while longer, he picked it up and hesitantly took a sip.
Laurel gave in and chuckled a little, relaxing again. The milk that formed the heart swirled around, disappearing into the coffee.
Once it was gone, he didn't seem to feel so guilty drinking it as he checked his computer.
"So... are you planning the date tonight or should I?" Laurel asked after a moment.
Nic paused a moment. "... Do you want to?" he asked.
"I don't mind." she offered, leaning back on the couch.
"But do you want to?" he asked again.
Laurel shrugged, "It's typically the man's job, but I'll let you get away with it this time because you're busy." she smirked with a small chuckle, "I'll set up this one." she nodded, "It'll be fun."
"... If you're sure," Nic replied.
Laurel turned to Nic, "Do you want to?" she asked back, "If you really want to do it and think you can find the time, then I don't mind that either. But I don't see how you have the time so I'm sure." she decided.
"I'll do it if you want me to," Nic replied. "I can find the time."
Laurel slowly frowned, "I want you to want to do it... not because I want you to." she said quietly, "Do you want to go on a date with me? I don't want to if you don't want to."
"... Will me planning it make you happy?" he tried.
"... Do you want to date me?" Laurel repeated, wanting an answer to her previous question.
"I want you to be happy," Nic answered. "... If dating would make you happy, then I want to date you."
Laurel's eyes drifted to the ground, "That's not the same thing." she said quietly.
".. Why not?" Nic asked.
Laurel sighed, "Fine." she stated as she suddenly stood up, "I'll make sure by the end of tonight, you want to date me... not just to make me happy." she declared with a too happy smile.
Nic blinked, very confused. After a moment, he clarified, "... You're planning the date?"
"Yes. And it's going to be one terra of a date, Dominic." she smirked, "I'll make you want to date me." and she started towards the door.
Nic didn't say anything, still confused about what she meant. But he let it go.
"I'll have someone come get you. Dress somewhat nice and brush your hair." she said from the door.
Nic nodded a little.
About three hours later there was a light knock on Nic's door.
After a few moments, Nic came to the door. As requested, he was dressed a little nicer than usual. As in a shirt that wasn't in need of mending and shoes that weren't' about to fall apart. Actually, they were the shoes Laurel had bought him. And he had combed his hair. Sorta. At least it didn't look like he had just woken up.
Anna was smiling at him and quickly motioned for him to follow her.
Nic blinked, a little confused, but followed.
Anna lead him to the elevator and down to the racing area. When they stepped out of the elevator the cave had a inviting glow from the rows of bikes whose headlights were pointed at the walls of the cave. In the middle of the bikes was a simple table with dinner set. There were some heaters off to the side as well to keep away the damp. Laurel turned from adjusting something on the table to look at Nic as he entered. "Well." she stated, putting a hand on her hip, "You clean up well." she smiled. She was wearing a beautiful gold dress that was tight around her thin waist and then flowed out from there. It shone as she walked towards him.
Nic was quiet for a moment before half-apologizing, "I didn't know you meant a suit."
Laurel chuckled, "No, it's fine. You'd look weird in a suit." she informed him as she reached him and took his arm, "I just felt like showing off." she confessed with a smile.
"... Alright," Nic replied.
"I made your favorite." Laurel grinned at Nic. Indeed as they got closer to the table the smell of Thai food was recognizable. Laurel squeezed his arm a little.
