people are buying lots of the vi too, granted it's like 2-1 in favor of rave but still there are many showing up, believe me i would only get vics if no-one bought them

Alexander Linden 08-04-2011 11:03 AM

Is that why no one sells me runes? Because they are wanting a stupid amount for them? Come on people.... >.<

Demo 08-04-2011 11:05 AM

The only thing I'm saying is that grossly auto inflating atable prices for an item that you know someone wants it against unwritten exchanger code of conduct. Its just plain not right.

Coda 08-04-2011 11:06 AM

Sadly, this "code of conduct" is equivalent to "bad business" in a free market. Operating on an honor system is anathema to the principles of capitalism. I'm not saying this is a GOOD thing, but that's the way economics works. Supply and demand. The people who control the supply adjust the prices to balance the demand.

Alexander Linden 08-04-2011 11:07 AM

They aren't adjusting their prices properly.

littl3chocobo 08-04-2011 11:07 AM

so you'd rather a person not sell anything at all than to sell too high when noone else is selling?

Alexander Linden 08-04-2011 11:09 AM

I'd rather prices be fair.

Coda 08-04-2011 11:10 AM

That is, in fact, what a free market would encourage: If no one is buying at the price you're willing to sell it for, then you either lower your prices (if you need liquid assets NOW) or you hold on to it as an investment (in case someone will buy it for that price LATER). You of course have to balance the investment risk; if you're holding out for a price higher than anyone will ever pay, you've misvalued your non-liquid assets and you're not as wealthy as you think you are.

Demo 08-04-2011 11:11 AM

Yes damit. Or fucking sell them for a less and only half as insane amount if you wish. Bad businees is the real world term for it. Most people on here try to not do bad bisoness but everyone is guilty of it at one time or another. If people follow the example your setting choco then you'll see what you have potentialy started.

littl3chocobo 08-04-2011 11:13 AM

and in this case the item for sell was reasonable enough that people wanted it, hence it was a good deal for the seller and aperrently to the buyer(s) of the item

being a seller is sometimes about having both parties sated /regardless/ of what outside watchers want

Demo 08-04-2011 11:15 AM

Hardly the item is no where near worth that. And honestly you could have sold it for less but chose not to. So you controlled the price, so it was your decision. The seller has no party in this other than being stupid enough to pay the price.

Coda 08-04-2011 11:21 AM

It was worth that in the eyes of the parties participating in the transaction. That's what littl3 is saying. If it wasn't a fair deal in their eyes, the sale wouldn't have taken place.

It's one thing to discuss what the ideal marketplace would look like, but it's quite another to criticize a buyer for the BUYER'S evaluation of the worth of the item.

littl3chocobo 08-04-2011 11:22 AM

hey, insult me if you wish but leave her out of it, you need to chill out and talk like a civilised adult or just piss off that was just plain uncalled for

Demo 08-04-2011 11:24 AM

I stated my damn opinion and you have stated yours, neither of us are breaking the rules. Nothings perfect but it sucks when something that is going fine is disrupted.

littl3chocobo 08-04-2011 11:27 AM

you defend the integraty of the exchange but what about in other places? i think i am done here^^: there is nothing more to say

Nightmare 08-04-2011 11:28 AM

Demo, you can call me stupid if you like, but I viewed it as okay.
There might have been a chance that runes would come up sooner or later
for cheaper, but I'd most likely miss it - whether it be because of the
time of the sale or the lack of aurum / items. Because of that, I was
willing to pay higher now to insure I'd get runes, instead of waiting and
missing the chance.

Demo 08-04-2011 11:30 AM

I really don't care. I'm done, with a lot of things now.

Alexander Linden 08-04-2011 11:31 AM

Guys... You really should tone it down. There's really no reason for insults and swearing being thrown around when all you're talking about is digital currency.

Obbiesan 08-04-2011 12:22 PM

Well for me when im offered a price i find over priced i will not buy it i know that there are people who will sell for the right price and im just fine to wait and find them =3

Hermes 08-04-2011 01:13 PM

Some people are like mom and pop shops, some are like Wal-Mart. I sell for low prices a lot, because I'd rather everyone be happy in the exchange and make just enough to sustain than make the buyer lose. Wal-Mart, however, is a large business, and needs heavy funds to coninue to survive.

If I choose to buy my cheese at Wal-Mar, whih is RIGHT NEXT TO my house, has guaranteed cheese, and has a lot of it, I might pay an extra dollar, but I'm paying for luxury.

I think that, right now, we're seeing a drought on runes a little bit, but...I don't see people selling for 3K per 10 regularly o.o I payed 4K per 20 for my runes, and I consider that slightly overpriced, but! I got mine IMMEDIATELY, I payed for luxury.

On the flipside, I could have waited, taken the whole month to get the items I wanted, and paid a more reasonable price.

This argument will never see an end, and I am still REALLY surprised this thread hasn't been locked XD

Obbiesan 08-04-2011 01:19 PM

I agree Hermes this thread always has been heated. And what you say is the truth i to like to sell low and make people happy because they might come back when they want something if i have it knowing ill be selling lower then most others. Its all on how people want to run their shops.

Coda 08-04-2011 01:42 PM

I'll admit I've come close to locking the thread from time to time but occasionally interesting and relevant topics do come up. Maybe someday an idea will spark that might help manage things.

Hermes 08-04-2011 01:48 PM

Well, theoretically, they could always come up with unions to regulate prices, but as the sellers seem to only focus on any one person buying for the highest amount at a time ,and think anyone besides that person is being unreasonable, I don't think we'll see a change anytime soon XD

That wasn't meant to be an insult to anyone, it's the truth.

Ginger 09-11-2011 01:43 PM

Personally, I have found that different price guides help.... ONE price guide made by someone who changed it to suit THIER wants first really didn't help anything at all for a few months. Demo's price guide is the only one I look at when it comes to my buying and selling here.

Economics really is an interesting topic. I love the whole supply and demand thing, and collecting things that might have incredible value in the future. I buy multiples of the monthly items because I was around when they were and it means a lot that I got to be a part of their release.

Demo 09-11-2011 08:02 PM

I promise to be fair with my price guide and I will not advertise anyone on it. The guide is meant to help guide people. Not in a sense control it. People are free to use the prices if they so choose.

And economics is a very interesting topic ginger. Sucks I had a horrible teacher for the class. XP

Lioshika 09-11-2011 10:01 PM

I follow the price guides as much as possible.

Coda 09-11-2011 10:34 PM

It's better to gauge the demand for the item and how much your customers would be willing to pay than to follow a price guide blindly. The point of a price guide is to show how much items HAVE sold for, not how much they SHOULD sell for. Use it as a starting point, but don't follow it without thinking.

Demo 09-11-2011 11:13 PM

Exactly what Coda said.

Illusion 09-12-2011 12:45 PM

Speaking of economics I'm in economics now. I finally got my iPod working on the schools Internet again!
I agree economics is fun >3 I get to sit in my desk and be on trisphee all I want!
Economics = Trisphee = Awesome

Ginger 09-13-2011 12:20 AM

That is why they are called guides xD And it is smart to look around to see what items are being sold for anyway because price guides don't always get price reports when items are bought or sold and items that are low in quantity become high in demand. I think I'm gonna try to work on reporting the things I buy and sell..

To start off, I bought two Lord of Karmic Interventions for 3.5k each the other day if that helps :3
