They definitely will not compensate you with real money. No other site that's shut down has done so, to my knowledge.

Sei 06-01-2014 12:15 PM

Yeah, you essentially pay Gaia for the right to rent virtual items and accumulate gold. That's one of the points in the ToS that everyone signs when they join (sorry, I memorized most of it, forgive me!).

....I'm going to assume that was a common gripe when people wanted to leave Gaia.

Sei 06-01-2014 12:23 PM

You better believe it. *nods*

We'd get 'parents'* emailing us saying that we were 'scamming their children'** by not refunding their money upon them leaving or when we banned them. This clause stopped a lot of the commotion most times, but the most insistent went directly to an admin who had the 'authority level'*** to say it would never happen.

* most likely not parents, but the person pretending.
** this is the most common argument, but the ToS agreement nulls it anyways.
*** "I wanna see your manager! *angryface*

Espy 06-01-2014 12:30 PM

...Sorry, I'm having a good laugh at the mods' expense right now.

Sei 06-01-2014 12:36 PM

Sometimes, if they were a troll, they eventually took it well and laughed it off. Most good trolls know when a joke has gone too far and bow out; it's the bad trolls that keep pushing when they know it's hopeless. The invested users and their 'parents', however, were far more likely to be the ones that had to speak to the highest authority (and believe me, I can understand feeling like you lost an investment - a part of you, and I sympathize with anyone who has lost their account, but the ToS is the ToS and that's what controls what we do).

As mods, we were more likely to know what was going on with accounts than the admins were, because we were the ones who did the investigating. They, for some reason, thought the admins would quickly review all the evidence and decide the opposite of what we did. It was weird. I've told people for years: mods log EVERYTHING - screenshots, quoted conversations, links to 'deleted' threads and posts - we are the police of the forum. If we couldn't get enough evidence to PROVE it, you wouldn't have received any penalty.

Yeah...people just don't seem to get that. Kind of really bothers me.

I'm glad I got out of Gaia years ago. Though I left due to all the petty drama, not due to money issues.

Muff Muff 06-01-2014 04:59 PM

I'll just sell all my stuff when I'm done with it and buy massive art. haha

Yokuutsu 06-01-2014 05:18 PM

I'm still there. I can find rps there. Yaoi rps. I can't abandon them XD

Angel Spirit Girl 06-08-2014 09:00 PM

Well, I wonder what gaia will do after the current CEO is gone and they realize that Tenticle is another of their failed ventures.

Espy 06-08-2014 09:12 PM

I...don't really think Tentacl has failed yet?

Yokuutsu 06-08-2014 11:51 PM

Gaia is gone. (This CEO will kill it)

And Tentacl will only flourish if the heavy cash users of Gaia go there....too much basic shit costs money.

Poggio 06-09-2014 05:31 AM

xD I feel bad because I am actually on Tentacl and I enjoy the site. My friend and I have been posting around and their one game is mildly amusing. I am hoping it doesn't fail because I do not really see myself going back to gaia and outside of Tris I am not so active on a lot of avatar sites.

zosa 06-09-2014 02:43 PM

i dont see it thriving so there is no point in joining, i will just continue to ride the gaia train on it's deathspiral

Anonymous 06-09-2014 04:50 PM

I joined Gaia almost 10 years ago... It will be 10 years in August. (holy crap I can't even comprehend that)
I quit and gave away all of my items to a friend a few years back and I haven't looked back once.
Not too long after they opened up the cash shop and all of their RIG items went for 120k, I left.
You could spend about 30 real dollars, and end up with a million gold by the end of the day. It was absolutely ridiculous.
Also all of the new monthlies went for like 70-90k.
I don't know how it is now, because like I said, it's been years since I've been there, but it was not going well the last time I looked.
I remember back in the day when the only cash items were monthlies and you could buy them for like 12k in the marketplace.
Those were the good old days...

zosa 06-10-2014 12:54 AM

monthlies are over a million gold each and that is nothing

Anonymous 06-10-2014 07:58 AM

Ew, gross. I'm glad I left.
I heard they re-created old monthlies like the scarfs, sash, and minis and made different colors?
I don't know how I feel about that.

Poggio 06-10-2014 09:42 AM

@Zosa: I am not so pessimistic about the site. One because it has the commercial commerce of gaia to back it up and two gaia wants to keep its older members. There are ads for it on at least 3-4 sites that I go to. I also think it lets older users be nostalgic about gaia while finding people their age to talk to with out swimming through trolls.

@Anon: XD yeah I went back once and still managed to be poor even though I had a lot of gold. It was silly.

Umaeril 06-10-2014 12:54 PM

I just made a few billion in a few hours last night. It is absurd. I don't put any more cash into the site, but I used to. Anyhow my billions are not worth much, maybe 3 or 4 nice items, or more if you catch a good deal.

Anonymous 06-10-2014 03:59 PM

That makes me sick to my stomach. I remember when one million could buy you anything.

Chloe 06-10-2014 04:45 PM

I haven't been back on Gaia for ages. I basically only played Zomg cause it was safer than going onto the forums through in truth, I did a spend quite a bit of real cash to get some items I wanted when I was truly hooked on Gaia. I lost interest when things started going way too out of price range on there and every week, new cash items were offered. Only way you could get most of the older items was to come a cash cow..

zosa 06-10-2014 06:17 PM

they did and now all new items will have a recolor within a month of it's release, up to i believe seven also there are loads of old rig and monthly recolors, thereabouts 5-7 recolors to each new item with easily a half a dozen cash/shop updates every day

i had almost 3billion gold and i could only afford two super cheap items, that was half of my gold too, items are in the hundreds of billions for the rare stuff, billions for the common stuff, millions for the cheap stuff and anything under 8 million is not really worth having

Anonymous 06-11-2014 02:02 AM

Wow. That's insanely ridiculous.

Also, looking at previous posts, what exactly is tentacl?

zosa 06-11-2014 02:07 AM

'adult' gaia, basically a forum with really badly made avatars that reuse gaia items and has a forum where teenyboppers can claim to be 18 and show dick pictures

Anonymous 06-11-2014 02:09 AM

Oh. I see.

Gotta love teenyboppers and dick picks. xD

Espy 06-11-2014 02:49 AM

I personally like the avatars. I'm...not sure what you mean by reusing gaia items?

zosa 06-11-2014 04:34 AM

they already are reformating gaia items for the new bases and for sure will be reformatting a /lot/ more

XD ikr? oh the world, of course poggio can explain it a lot better

Chloe 06-11-2014 05:34 AM

I heard about that new site but I never even glanced at it. Trying to get access back to my account so I can either sell my items off and use the pure to get art or offer them for art. I personally don't think I would be back on Gaia.

Yokuutsu 06-11-2014 12:41 PM

The avatars aren't shitty, at least nto compared to some. Roliana's and Midorea's, imo, are worse. Especially Midorea's. I'm not going to say I could make a better base, but it's a strong possibility with Midorea. (Or maybe it's the items? Idk)

Either way, I'm riding the death spiral as well, so...WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Poggio 06-11-2014 01:57 PM

@Anon: Since Zosa and a lot of people are pretty much down on Tentacl. I would suggest checking it out for yourself and forming your own opinion. The site is basically designed to cater to Gaia's older members. It works more as a social media platform then it does an actual avatar website since you do not actually get gold from posting. You get gold from interacting with people. They have different forms with different interest and while I am sure some people under the age of 18 have snuck on the site along with a few trolls, a vast majority of the site that I have encountered are people over the age of 20 that have not yet reached 30, are sick of gaia but are still large enough nerds to like avatar sites.

Sookei 06-12-2014 02:17 AM

I think it's really sad how the inflation is on Gaia now.
I have an account and got back on it a few weeks ago to find that
any item's price on my wishlist has ridiculously increased in price.
I mean if I want to get an item now it's going to take me till I'm 80
before I can even afford it through the means of how I used to collect gold, ie: booty grab, posting in forums, so on and so forth. I'm not sure that they could fix the inflation even if they wanted to, it's gotten way out of hand.

Areishia 06-12-2014 11:05 AM

@Sookei: I agree with you that by now, it's pretty much impossible for the inflation on gaia to ever be fixed, the gold generators have simply done impossible to repair damage. Nothing short of a complete currency change will get thing back to normal, and even then, it's only going to work as long as no new gold generators get released to mess everything up again.

@Yokuutsu: Midorea is pretty getting a complete art overhaul from what I've understood, and this does seem to extend to the art of the avatar and all of the items as well. Personally, I don't really like the faces of the female avatars the previews for Midorea 2.0 showed, they just look too masculine for me...

Yokuutsu 06-12-2014 12:24 PM

@Areishia

Praise...SOMETHING! I knew they were doing an overhaul...I just didn't know if that included the avatars (though I hope so)

What was disappointing for me were those pictures on the landing page of characters...they looked awesome to me then, but the avatars are NOTHING like that T-T

Areishia 06-12-2014 12:36 PM

@Yokuutsu: Yeah, the items and avatars looking completely diferent from the image was rather off-putting. To be honest, I mostly liked Midorea for the story-line because of that.

If you log into your midorea account, just click the "midorea v3 development" you can find by going to the forums page and you should find the images there.
