Daaang Nex, you know a lot. O:

Nexess 11-26-2013 11:08 PM

I just ended up joining alot of avatar sites at the right time? Weirdly enough alot of these sites branched off from Zantarni, Mene, Nox, Mid to an extent, Malthea, if Haru and Poet ever open it mind you.

Dorian Pavus 11-26-2013 11:22 PM

I've joined almost all of the ones that have ever opened and I've worked as an artist for a few of the smaller ones.

Veron
Ani
TornFaun
Solia
Chloria
Ruffles
Zaff Cast

I've stopped pixeling though, so... > 3 >
I don't foresee myself working for an avatar site again because of how hard I got burned by Solia.

Nexess 11-26-2013 11:26 PM

BI I still have no idea what Solia is to be honest guys, I never joined it, it was after my time for the most part.

Dorian Pavus 11-26-2013 11:37 PM

It's still here and turning into the next Gaia.

Nexess 11-26-2013 11:49 PM

BL I googled it, this is the site that I joined and went THESE SHIZ IS DERP, LEAVING!

Lawtan 11-27-2013 05:06 PM

Hmm...
I need to join more of these avatar sites...Just Syndrone and Tris right now...
Nexuss, I really wish I had your timing. Instead, I am keeping an eye out for the next generation of such things.

Dorian Pavus 11-27-2013 09:33 PM

I got in on the first week or so of a lot of the older sites, but I'm losing tuch with the newer ones. : (

Nexess 11-28-2013 01:24 AM

I only go on Tris now, which is also technically work... which is probably why I'm still on it.

Lawtan 11-28-2013 01:42 AM

This thread was never on rails.

Aenith 07-03-2014 11:44 PM

I've worked for websites before (primary private servers for games) and 99% of the time, the reason for a site shutting down is laziness or lack of maturity. Every game I've worked for was lead by a spoiled 19-21 year old brat who still lived with their mom and had no responsibilities whatsoever in life, so they decided to spend their birthday money on hosting a website. A few weeks into it they throw a tantrum because someone calls them out for doing something stupid and *poof* everything is gone.

Karastorm 12-02-2014 07:40 PM

Sights that got closed that I know of:tentacl. Gaias sisster sight they closed it after only 9 months of online activity saying it wasn't growing as expected. Its a shame as it had much better avi's then gaia as well as a 17+ appeal ( the nsfw section was filled with usser nundes etc).

Yokuutsu 12-07-2014 08:51 PM

I knew tentacl wouldn't last long.

It was tumblr, but weird....and with weird avatars too. Also, it probably doesn't help that the management of Gaia was ignoring all the users-why go to another one of their websites where it'll end up the same way. Which I think someone wanted to buy tentacl, but they refused to sell....they'd rather it be destroyed instead.

Karastorm 12-09-2014 10:54 PM

Personally I liked tbe avi's. The staff let it rot for around two or so months. It was still in beta when they closed it for good.

Belial 12-10-2014 01:46 AM

As long as I still spend money here on this site, I would hope it does not shut down on me.

It might be slow but this place never lost it's heart, it's core. This is why I continue donating.

Espy 12-11-2014 04:04 PM

I checked the shops in Tentacl and they like...didn't put in anything new since before I even left, which was just a month or two into beta. That's pretty pathetic.

Ginger 12-11-2014 07:47 PM

I raged on their announcement of the website shutting down. If you're familiar with Warm Teets, that would be me. xD

Espy 12-11-2014 11:42 PM

Wait
what
that was you?!

Ginger 12-12-2014 12:51 AM

Yes. xD

I was a regular in Lulu and Fluffdaddy's threads, more specifically Grrrl Talk

Espy 12-12-2014 01:28 AM

Huh. Interesting. Wonder if you might have noticed me, but under a different name that I rarely ever use.

Maro 12-12-2014 02:56 AM

Man so many sites are dead or shutting dovvn or just never vvent up lately it's sad.

kiki 12-12-2014 07:50 AM

but a lot of new websites are opening too! look it up you guys! D:
though it really is depressing that some of them are shutting down ; n ;

Yokuutsu 12-14-2014 11:52 AM

I don't feel like finding new websites anymore, they can't give me what I need, which some established ones can't either.

Lawtan 12-14-2014 12:01 PM

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - the internet is maturing. (Maturing here meaning stagnation, not "becoming more mature.")

Though new sites and all are still being made, no attempt (no matter how innovative) will have the positive or negative response that the older attempts had. Also, the support will be/is lacking, as the majority of internet users are either too busy, too tired of change/failure, or lack the connection to make support possible.

Similar to several things in Art, Technology, Science, Music, Sports, and Writing. There may be a better writer than Tolkein out there...starving because everyone bought Twilight, English required reading, and LotR instead.

Coda 12-15-2014 01:56 AM

I disagree that the Internet is stagnating. I think it's moving on, and things that were once popular are falling out of fashion as interest grows in other places.

New sites ARE being made, and being successful -- just not avatar sites, because avatar customization really doesn't have the draw it used to have.

ml1201 12-20-2014 09:31 AM

One of the sites I play is getting less and less donations, though I think its because the artist for the site keeps making girly, frilly items even for the male avatars. Their excuse is that male themed items are not popular because there are mostly only girls on the site, so they want cute items. I say BS to that because guys are getting turned off from there NOT being more male items on the site. And with a lot of the girly items coming out they are all starting to look the same because its been done so much. I'm not even sure if I'm going to donate to them this Christmas or not because I was one of several people demanding more male items, and they still refuse to make them. :/

Maro 12-20-2014 10:50 AM

AHAHAHAHA that statement of theirs is bullshit [pardon my language]

I -am- female, born female, but I have alvvays ALVVAYS preferred more 'masculine' things in real life. Sure cute is fine from time to time but doing it constantly gets really boring. Ignoring their male users isn't a fair vvay to run things at all. Reminds me of a site I've been on before, mind pming me the name of this one to see if it's the same one?

Yokuutsu 12-20-2014 12:59 PM

I like gothic/fantasy based items.

That's about it...and WINGS! I NEED ALL THE WINGS! -twitch-

I don't know for sure what website you're talking about, but Idk

What sites? Also, do they have the same lifespan that avatar sites, or other earlier sites enjoyed?

ml1201 12-20-2014 05:57 PM

@Yoku
Oh yes! Gothic themed is awesome! XD Being being able to miss it up when you want is also good. XD And is it okay if I call you Yoku?

@Maro
Sent you that PM, but yeah, I'm not sure how much longer that site is going to last to be completely honest, there's a meter thing in the hangout thread the artist runs and the meter has not been anywhere near what they need to keep the site up for almost a year now.
