So Nic let Laurel roll her bike while he rolled his own.
-- Raven leaned down and kissed Frei's cheek. "I think it looks good on you," he told her. |
Frei turned and started to walk out of the store. Apparently she liked it.
Raven reeled Frei back in before she walked out, and he managed to convince the clerk to let them buy it without Frei taking it off. Fin was waiting outside, bored.
Frei walked out as soon as Raven let her, dress moving lightly around her as she turned up the street.
As they kept shopping, Fin was a little more timid around Frei than usual. He bought Fin some more clothes despite his protest. He also brought them to a few candy stores.
Surprisingly, Frei grabbed the biggest, brightest lollipop in the store and stared at Raven. It was pretty clear she wanted it.
Raven raised his eyebrows. And so did Fin. Raven explained to her that if she wanted to get the big lollypop, that was the only candy she could buy.
Frei stared at him for a long moment before taking out her tablet. It looked like someone needed to relearn his place in the food chain around here. She took a chip out from the side and handed it to the cashier, "Every candy," she stated.
The cashier blinked, "One of every candy?" Frei shook her head, "Every candy." The cashier glanced at Raven. |
Raven let out a deep sigh. "Wolfe is gonna kill me if you spend all that money on candy," he told Frei. "I'm just trying to look out for your sugar intake."
Fin's jaw was still hanging open. |
The flash in Frei's eyes made it clear that she didn't need him to look out for her sugar intake.
Raven wondered if there would be any way of reversing the spoiled brat Wolfe had let her become. "Not everyone can afford to buy one of every candy," he noted.
Fin was still dumbstruck. |
Frei stared at Raven. He was a friend; this felt all wrong. "You're..." Frei paused, trying to get the words out, "not... my parent," she stated before turning to leave, setting the lollipop on the counter.
Raven didn't say anything as Frei walked out. After a moment, he bought the big lollypop for Frei and picked something random, but manlier for Fin.
Frei didn't wait for Raven and Fin, walking off down the street.
Raven and Fin managed to catch up to Frei; it was a little difficult to miss her in that dress. Raven was a little less chatty than usual, but he kept his typical smile on his face as they made a few more stops. He seemed to have some other agenda for shopping, but didn't let Fin and Frei in on it.
Frei seemed to have slipped back into totally blankness. No emotions crossed on her face as she entered and left each store.
