"No," Fin disagreed simply. And for a second there his voice sounded vaguely familiar.
Wolfe was silent for awhile, "Do you have family?"
Fin was starting to get a little uncomfortable with these questions. "... I..." he paused a long moment. "I don't know."
"Is that what you were doing out? Looking for your family?" he asked next, still 'scanning.'
"... I need to find work and a place to stay while I earn money," he replied. At least he was thinking realistically.
Wolfe thought about that a moment before shifting gears, "How long have you had the necklace?"
Fin started shifting a little, getting uncomfortable on the scanning table. "... Few years," he replied.
"And you've never taken it off?" there was doubt in Wolfe's voice.
"... The chain broke once," Fin admitted. "But never on purpose."
Wolfe shook his head a little, "Why such a strong attachment to a simple physical object?"
"... It was my mom's," Fin repeated quietly, not sure what part of that Wolfe didn't understand. Raven shrugged at Wolfe a little, seeming to have somewhat of an idea where Fin was coming from.
Wolfe didn't seem to be able to understand that, "You'd feel lost without it?" he clarified.
Fin swallowed a little, not really wanting to answer that. But his silence was a clear enough yes.
"Then the necklace makes you weak," he stated, "Can you not remember your mother without that price of metal?"
"I am not weak," Fin snapped as he started to sit up, voice and demeanor becoming familiar again as he defended his belief. "It reminds me to be strong."
Raven cussed under his breath a little as something clicked in his head and he went to check Fin's identification card. |
Wolfe handed it to Raven as he kept his eyes on Fin, "If you need a remainder, you are weak," Wolfe replied simply.
