"She only does those sneaky tricks if you let her. If she brings the stick to you she wants you to play with her. Though when it seemed like you were going to take the stick away she didn't like that, which is why she behaved that way. I'll admit she's got issues when it comes to have things her way, but she also doesn't listen to people she sees as being weak. Just like a dog or a wolf. I can show you how you can prove you're a higher rank if you want though, this way she won't be doing that to you again." Bobbie comes back with the stick, dropping it at Don's feet, panting a bit from running. Smiling Don pets her head, which earns him some kisses on his arm from her.
|
"Or I could just be mean and not play with her period." Vincent says, shrugging a bit. He's perfectly fine without playing....he doesn't absolutely need the exercise or anything. "Bobbie just tries to squish me to death....dunno which I like less." It could be worse, he does know that much. "Maybe I should learn that." He says to himself a bit.
|
Smiling Don motions for Vincent to follow him back into the house, "Have you heard of the saying 'a dog doesn't bite the hand that feeds it?' Easiest way to get them to listen to you is let them know you're in charge, and the easiest way is with food. We have treats that we make for them that you can do that with since they're not easy to get. They were actually trained to be submissive towards us with these kinds of treats." Going into a pantry in the kitchen he pulls out a plastic container and pulls the lid off.
|
Vincent nods a bit. "It's usually the best way to get an animal's trust....eventually at least." He'll try to feed stray cats every now and again...he feels bad for them. He just follows after Don. "What kind of treats are they?" He only knows of basic ones at the store.
|
Smiling, Don pulls out the treats that look kind of like cookies, "They're a peanut butter treat, we found a recipe online for them and the girls love them. Another one they like that we'll make are the cheese ones too. But we try not to give them the cheese ones too often, only during the winter time when the extra weight can be used to keep them warm. Then there's also their normal food we give them. But because its mostly soft food we give them we have to bush their teeth a lot. When we had first gotten them they were not happy having a tooth brush stuck in their mouth." He hands a treat to Vincent and takes one for himself to give to one of the girls. "Best part is all the ingredients are completely safe for humans as well. So if push came to shove people could eat these too."
|
Vincent listens to him, his head tilted a bit as he does. He snorts a bit at the info about the cheese ones. "Well, I never liked having to brush my teeth when I was a little kid. Why would a wolf?" It makes perfect sense to him at least. He takes the treat, and because of his words, he has to sniff at it. "I wouldn't want to eat it though." He has to say. "Though like you said...I'd eat these over dying."
|
"What kid doesn't? But it was mostly because of the brush being stuck in their mouths, they loved the taste of the paste." Closing up the containers he puts them back and motions for Vincent to go back outside. "Hahah, looks like they know what's coming, look at those two."
Wolfie, being the calmer of the two was sitting by the door with her tail violently wagging back and forth. Bobbie on the other hand was pacing back and forth outside the door, whining excitedly as she waits for them to go back outside. |
"That's my point...if humans aren't going to like it...there's gotta be a reason a wolf wouldn't like it somewhere." Vincent says before snorting a bit. "What did the toothpaste taste like?" He has to ask out of curiosity. He just goes outside with Don. He does laugh a bit at seeing how excited they both are. "It's kind of cute really." He says softly, smiling.
|
Don shakes his head at Vincent's question, "I honestly can't say, I've never tried how it tastes. And the one we use doesn't really say the flavor, we get it directly from the vet since we can't really use the same kind like for a regular dog." Laughing softly he opens the door to where the girls are and Bobbie plops down next to Wolfie, giving them both puppy-eyes as she begs for the treat.
"Now, you'll have to make them lay down, if you can make them lay down and not look at you while waiting for the treat for at least five seconds you can give it to them. That's the start of them submitting to you." |
"Well, at least the liked the taste? Better than them hating the taste and the brushing." Vincent says simply. Gotta take what you can get. He just follows Don out to the dogs, chuckling a bit at Bobbie and her puppy eyes. "I could see random people wanting to give her treats if she'd do it to everyone." It is cute, but he isn't affected that much.
"Delayed gratification is a go then." He says. It's like humans except not. |
"Yeah, and the next time we can try doing it longer, like fifteen seconds. This way they get used to you and will listen to you when you want them to get off. My mom on the other hand doesn't really mind them climbing all over her. People don't realize just how much energy she has for someone her age. Heck, my dad is the one who drinks coffee in the morning, but not mom. Now just give them the treats one at a time starting with Wolfie since she's a higher rank than Bobbie."
|
Vincent nods a bit. "Or just gain enough weight so that they can't squish me." He snorts, joking about that at least. "Some people don't mind....but some dogs can take you down." Like these can. Little dogs, all he worries about is whether the claws have been trimmed or not. "And everyone does have different energy levels." So do animals. So he starts the treat thing, doing as he was told.
|
Wolfie lays down as he commands since she was already sitting, but continues to look up at Vincent, almost like she's having a staring contest with him. Several minutes go by when finally she gets tired of staring at him and yawns, putting her head down between her paws, but lays her ears back.
"Don't give her the treat, not until her ears are up. When they are down like that she's in a foul mood and might bite you if you try to give her a treat. Another reason why I had you do her first, she's a very temperamental girl to deal with. Only reason why she accepted me in the beginning when we first got her was because to her I was still a pup and not much of a threat." |
Vincent just shrugs as Wolfie stares at him. "I have no life really so I can do this for awhile." He says simply, resisting the urge to make some weird face for the hell of it.
"I don't know much about dogs, but I do know that little fact." He just says. "I could tell she's more temperamental than Bobbie." He says simply. The stick taught him well. He kind of chuckles at his words. "Gotta protect the baby?" |
"Yeah, you could say something like that. Though now I'm probably considered the alpha, and you can probably figure out why too." Wolfie twitches her ears as she listens to the two of them talk, then finally yawns and her ears go back to a normal position. She grumbles a bit but doesn't show any indication of being hostile towards Vincent. She's like that for as least five seconds, relenting to him some.
|
Vincent just smiles at him a bit. "It makes as much sense as anything." Unless they see the baby whatever as food, he can't see them attacking. Hell, a lion tried to take care of a baby antelope so...why not? He just nods a bit at his words. "Oh, so now you want the treat?" He does, finally, let her have the treat.
|
Grumbling, she takes teh treat from him, making sure to get a lot of slobber on his hand, then walks off to eat the treat away from Bobbie. Once Wolfie is gone, Bobbie begins whining really loudly, making it obvious that she wants a treat as well.
"And now she'll begin the butt wiggling," as Don says this Bobbie begins shifting her weight impatiently on her hind legs, which does make it look like she's wiggling her butt. "That part is totally the dog in her and not the wolf." Don can't help but smile at her antics, finding her behavior amusing. |
"Ew." That's all Vincent says before wiping his hand off on his pants. "Remind me why I wanted to give her a treat again?" He says to Don. He knows dogs slobber, but that's a lot more than normal in his opinion.
He chuckles as he sees Bobbie being all excited over the treat. "Gotta calm down and then you'll get the treat." He says to her. "Though it is cute." He says, smiling a bit. |
"Because you think they are cute furballs and want to be able to play with them without them treating you like you're lower than them? That's at least what I thought we were doing this for." Don chuckles a bit, he thought of them as cute furballs even if most other people didn't.
When Vincent says that she starts doing a half bark, half whine as she tries to be unnoticeable as she inches closer to Vincent and the treat. She knew that misbehaving wouldn't get her a treat, but begging wasn't part of that. |
"Well, I think I could live without playing with Wolfie...especially if I'm going to be something to drool all over." He doesn't mind it except when it's obvious the dog is doing it on purpose. "And like I said, puppies. They are puppies. All dogs are puppies." He says simply.
He just looks at her. "That's not what you're supposed to do to get the treat and you know it. You're supposed to be all good and calm. Then you get tasties." |
Ears drooping, Bobbie cries, looking from Vincent to Don as if not sure what she's supposed to do.
"Well, at least she's not getting hostile with you, I think she's a little confused as to what you're doing. Normally when we trained them to do that we commanded her to lay down then to submit. All we have to do now though is tell her to lay down and she submits on her own. You might have to make her submit. Since we know she won't bite you, try to push her over on her side and lay her head down. If you can get her to go on her side just lightly hold your hand over her shoulder until she stops looking towards you for at least a minute. That's what my parents taught me to do when we first got them." |
Vincent, truth be told, kind of just wants to give Bobbie the treat. Mainly because she just tried to squish him, that's all. There are much worse things in the world than being squished by a puppy.
He just blinks a bit before looking at Bobbie a bit. "Alrighty then." He says, shrugging a bit. The main thing he knows is if the dog isn't hostile, he wants to pet the dog. He just does his best to do as he's told, though he doesn't mind Bobbie at much as Wolfie. For reasons, though he likes them both. |
Vincent trying to push her onto her side startles her a bit, making her flail with ehr legs a bit as she rolls over. She keeps her head up looking confused between Don and Vincent while trying to get up without making it obvious she didn't like being forced down like that.
"Whatever you do don't pet her. Petting her will make her think what she's doing is alright to do, but its not. Wait until she calms down, then you can pet her a little bit. Then when she submits you can give her the treat." |
Vincent would probably react about the same way, even as a human. "It's alright." He wouldn't hurt the wolves unless they were trying to eat him alive or something. He wouldn't let them do that to him. He just does as he's told though part of him still just wants to give Bobbie the treat and be done and all. Bobbie has a nicer nature in his opinion. Maybe she's just more social.
|
After a while Bobbie finally relaxes, but after freaking out so much she gets tired and just lays her head down. Too tired and even try and look up at Vincent at this point. She does wag her tail happily though, as if glad to find out Vincent is not trying to hurt her or anything.
"She's doing good, she's actually the one that gives the vets the most trouble. Half the time they need three people to hold her down to get anything done. She doesn't like having a check up done, which is definitely the wolf part coming out strongly. Whenever we pick her up she's actually growling at all the tech by the end of it. I'm surprised she doesn't run away when she sees the carriers come out, that's the only time we use them." |
Vincent just smiles a bit before holding the treat out in front of her. "Sorry for scaring you." He doesn't like to scare animals, he loves them. He wants to pet them and possibly take pictures if they look awesome, or just because.
He laughs a bit at Don's words. "Well, no one likes going to the doctors I guess." He shrugs a bit. "Well, long as she doesn't eat them alive, right? I mean, they should be somewhat trained to deal with animals and their reactions." He says. |
Taking the treat from him gingerly she chomps on it a bit before swallowing it. Wagging her tail even more she gets up and begins licking Vincent on the chin.
"I think if it were any other vet they would ahve gotten bitten. The vets we take them to are ones for treating wild animals, so they know what they are doing. Bobbie is just really skittish when it comes to getting that done. They all call her the big angry baby since she never shows any signs of wanting to bite them, just lots of growling to try and make them go away. Even funnier is she happy to see them at first until she gets put on an examination table." Don laughs a bit nervously, having seen first hand the incident. |
Vincent giggles a bit at the licking before petting Bobbie. "That's all I wanted you to do so I could give you a tasty treat."
He laughs a bit. "She likes people, she just doesn't like doctors appointments. I don't like needles and the like when I do go to the doctor, but they're nice people there." He chuckles a bit more. "She knows it needs to be done I guess? She just doesn't like it anyway." |
"That's probably what it is, and she seems to like you quite a bit." Thinking about it, since it was kind of dark out, Don looks at his watch. "Its a little past seven, if you want we can go back to my room and work on homework and stuff, or if you need to go home I can take you home. It's up to you." Don would obviously like for him to stay longer, but he doesn't want to force the guy to do as he wants. XD
|
Vincent just pets Bobbie. "Well, at least one of them likes me." He just smiles a bit. "Well, no guy likes going for a prostate exam, but we're all gonna have to do it eventually." He even has a horrible face on as he thinks about it. "Ah....as long as I'm home by like midnight, it'll be fine." He says simply.
|
"Alright then, we can head back to my room and get cracking on that physics home work. We can probably help each other out if we get stuck on it." Walking over to Wolfie Don gives her a quick pat on the head then returns to the house, holding the door open for Vincent.
"I really wish we could have just had them as house pets, but at the time we got them we needed them to be guard dogs. And my parents think that if we start letting them inside it might cause issues with their training. We could always try training them more, but my mom and dad doesn't usually have the time anymore." |
Vincent nods a bit, petting Bobbie a bit more before they head inside. "Sometimes I regret my choice of classes." But he still needs to take the class though so there is no escaping it.
"Well, I've seen people with guard dogs in their houses..." He doesn't know how much of a guard dog the dogs actually are for those people. "But I don't know for sure on that so..." He shrugs a bit. "If you're willing to do it, try it." |
"Well I want to do it, just I'd need someone to help me since there's two of them and getting them trained faster would be better. Originally we only wanted them outside because they could respond faster to an intruder. My parents didn't want someone trying to kidnap me when I started to get popular." He shuts the door behind them, latching it shut since his dad probably would forget to check the doors when he gets back.
"Want anything to drink before we head up there? We've got juice, alcohol if you're old enough, and some sodas besides water." |
"Well, that's true." But Vincent doesn't think he'd be of any help. He'd just be a distraction probably, whether for Don or one of the dogs...that's a different story. He snorts a bit, unable to help it. "Who would want to kidnap you?" He has to ask.
"Ah...a soda would be good." He says. He isn't against alcohol, it just won't help with homework or anything. |
"Any particular flavor? My mom likes the 'zero' drinks, you know the ones with like no sugar, calories and carbs or whatever? She has different flavors, lemon-lime, orange, cola and ginger ale." Reaching into the fridge he grabs himself the lemon-lime drink. "As for the kidnapping, this was when I was a kid and a prodigy piano player. People were thinking that kidnapping me could earn them quick money."
|
"Um....cola I guess?" Vincent just shrugs a bit. None of them sound absolutely disgusting so he's fine with almost anything. "I tend to just make tea or something." He says. It is cheap and tastes fine to him. "Ah....okay....but they should realize that you can't force a kid to play..."
|
Reaching in he grabs the coke for Vincent then shuts the fridge and hands it to him. Popping his open he drinks some of the soda and shakes his head as he finishing swallowing.
"They weren't going to make my play, they were going to demand ransom from my parents and potentially kill me in some cases. That's how some kidnappers work. If they don't get the money the kid could loose a finger or a toe. If I'm lucky they would have returned me eventually in one piece. If I wasn't lucky I'd be found dead in a ditch, lake, river or ocean somewhere. My parents got the girls so that something like that wouldn't happen to me. They've already deterred someone from kidnapping me once already. They have some nasty scars because when the girls grabbed them they started hitting them, and we took the girls to the vet to make sure they didn't receive any severe injuries." |
"Thank you." Vincent says, taking the soda and opening it, sipping a bit.
"Well, some people would be smart and think about potential money a concert pianist could bring in over time." He says. "Instead of just being assholes....most make mistakes and get caught." He'd rather be smart instead of get money quickly. "People like that are idiots." He rubs his face a bit. "Though I am glad it never happened." It makes him think of mafia like movies. |
Chuckling he smiles at Vincent's comment on the potential kidnappers stupidity, "Not everyone can be sly like that, or smart either. Have you seen those videos of actually thieves caught on camera? Most of them are none too bright if you get my meaning." Don finishes off the can and sets it down on the counter near the sink.
"We recycle so you can just leave it by the sink, I'll get around to cleaning it later on." |
"I know, but if you're going to do something illegal like that, at least try to be a bit smarter about it, you know?" Vincent says. "No one should be doing that, but if they are...." He just shakes his head a bit. "I know."
He just nods a bit before finishing off the drink, leaving it by Don's. "I sometimes make random things out of them." |
