The story behind the sword is that it is actually made from his late wifes soul. And that she was so pure that her soul turned into a peerless blue crystal. So using his own power he turned it into a sword mhmm. There a bit more to it then that but I lost a lot of my OC profiles when my computer crashed.

why not just add the stone to the sword? why the extra step of turning a stone into a sword?

There was a reason for it, trust me. Like I said the profile is gone and I only remember bits of it. It could have been that her soul was dissipating and he captured it into a crystal and then it turned blue.
