Blaze was on time like always. She was dressed in "warm" clothes like the ones she wore on their first "date."
Kale nodded, grabbing a few snacks for himself before motioning for them to head out, "Have you been to Germany before?" he inquired as they approached the private Juttle.
"I don't think so," Blaze replied as she followed.
Kale chuckled, "Alright, then let's give you a tour." he smirked before taking off in their hovercraft and pointing out different landmarks as they drove by.
Blaze was pretty interested in the tour, asking questions every now and then about various things. Her curiosity had steadily increased after Yue had given her that case of treatments. Like she was starting to really discover the world now that she knew she would be spending more time in it.
Kale seemed to be perfectly content to play tour-guide. But eventually he pulled up at a very nice looking restaurant. He pulled a hat out of the back and hid his hair before nodding and Blaze and getting out of the car.
Blaze followed suit, but she looked like she felt a little out of place.
Kale chuckled, "C'mon, let's get some food first this time." he teased, "Wouldn't want you to short circuit."
Blaze rolled her eyes a little as she straightened her jacket.
"You look fine." Kale reassured her, not aware he should praise her more. He quickly stepped up and got a table for them.
It wasn't clear if Blaze believed him or not, but she stopped fiddling with her clothes.
Kale took her through the restaurant and eventually up some stairs to the rooftop. There was a single table set up, surrounded by flowers and lights. It looked rather beautiful and Kale smiled, clearly pleased with himself as he turned to look at Blaze's reaction.
It took Blaze a few moments to realize that was their table. Then a multitude of emotions crossed her face. Clearly she wasn't expecting anything this elaborate. When the waves stopped coming she stood there a little speechless, frozen, and blushing.
Kale's grin grew, "You like it, right? Girls like this kind of stuff, right?" he said happily.
It wasn't clear if Blaze heard Kale or not as she continued to stand there silently.
Kale chuckled as he reached out and took her hand lightly, leading her over to the table. Once they sat down a waiter appeared with menus.
Blaze seemed to slowly come out of it as Kale lead her over. Though she still hadn't said anything.
So Kale settled down, clearly hunger as he promptly ignored Blaze and submersed himself in the menu.
Blaze didn't seem to mind because it meant more time to get her head straight. After a few minutes she was more like herself.
Finally Kale was ready to order. Surprisingly it was something not 90% sugar. He looked up at Blaze, wondering what she'd order as he handed his menu back to the waiter.
Blaze ordered something that she was only 90% sure of what it actually was.
Kale leaned back a bit, "I'm kinda sad we have to travel back to James' right away." he sighed, "You would have loved Italy."
Blaze shrugged a little. "There's still time," she said with a small smile. She liked saying stuff like that now.
Kale rolled his eyes with a small chuckle, "Yep... though being trapped at James' is never fun for me. The place is lighted 24/7." he sighed.
"... The place is so big. Can't James turn off the lights in a section for you when everyone else is asleep?" she asked.
"But that's the problem. Everyone isn't asleep at the same time." Kale replied with a small smirk, "The place is a madhouse in full operation."
"There's gotta be someplace where no one needs light when you're awake," Blaze reasoned.
Kale shrugged, "I like to roam though... I suppose a few rooms could be sectioned off. But then that would be rather pathetic don't you think?" he chuckled, "Me sitting alone in a dark room."
Blaze blinked, not entirely getting it. "Why is that pathetic?" she asked.
Kale raised an eyebrow, "A grown man sitting in a dark room all by himself? All night?" he seemed amused, "Isn't that pathetic?"
Blaze still didn't seem to completely get it. But she shrugged. "It doesn't seem like we'll stay at James' long."
Kale nodded, "I suppose not. Just until we get more information on the Okorie family." he paused, "Though I guess that might mean more scouting for me." he mused, "Away from James' place." He glanced at Blaze, away from you.
It didn't look like Blaze had come to the same conclusion as Kale yet. "That would give your eyes a break," she noted.
Kale nodded, glancing away. "I don't know how long..." he paused, "I've scouted on my own for months at a time." he finally said, "If they send me out, I don't know when I'd get back."
After another moment, Blaze seemed to get it. She was quiet for a minute before suggesting, "I could go with you."
Kale forced a small smile but he didn't looked very encouraged. Then suddenly he clapped his hands, "Well, let's just enjoy tonight!" he exclaimed, "We shouldn't worry about the future 'til it gets here. You never know what might happen in between." he stated with a nod. "We're going to do this one day at the time, remember?"
Blaze nodded with a small smile.
Kale smiled back, just staring at her for a moment before he started chatting about trivial things. More fun facts about Germany and such. After a bit he glanced at the stairs. "The food sure is taking a long..." he voice trailed off as he suddenly he frowned and turned his head slightly. A soft click of a safety being removed could be heard but only by those who were trained to listen for it. His widened eyes looked into Blaze's for a split second and then he was gone, chair falling back as he sprinted towards the side of the building and away from the open space. He had the upmost confidence that Blaze could handle herself.
Kale could see Blaze heard it in her eyes. Then her instincts took over. She was at Kale's side, somehow keeping up with him.
Kale leaped over the side of the building just as shot rang out, hitting the table where they had just been. Blaze could hear Kale snort, clearly he didn't think the shooter was very skilled.
As the dropped off the roof they landed on the roof of the building beside it. Kale ran across this in a flash before ducking behind a structure on the third building over. His breathing was a bit faster than normal but not by much as he adjusted something on his belt. He glanced at Blaze and quickly made some motions with his hands. She'd go left, he'd go right. The shot had come from the left, they would try to circle him, cut him off and capture him. Kale also made the sign for kill if necessary. Then he prepared to continue running. -- Back at headquarters an alarm was ringing. People scurried this way and that and Wolfe could actually be seen running down the hall. James was still on stage, they wouldn't cut the show... not yet. |
