It's not that they're bad ideas on their own. The problem is that it seems like most referral rewards have utterly failed to generate new users.

Referral rewards tend to attract spammers.. They're not it in it make the community better or bigger, they just want the items.

Yes, I joined following DK fanfic. Part of the reason for that was because it already followed my interest in Gundam Wing, thus I bothered to read it. Another part was that is actually talked about Trisphee. Instead of just saying "come here" it was talking about the current Taskal War event and I recall thinking to myself that it sounded kinda neat.

I don't have any particular desire to join additional avatar forums and had no clue what they even were prior to bumping into the fic. I do mention Tris to people who ask what I'm doing sometimes, such as if I'm writng something for an event. Got Sheol to check the site out. ;).

Oh yeah, this site needs more users if it's going to last much longer. I was here before it was open, and while I admittedly was never a regular poster, I've found my activity becoming next to nothing in the two years it's been open and it seems like a lot of the people who joined back then have long since left as well. Outside of the hangouts, most of the site seems pretty dead. Like, the last event had more staff threads than actual user ones. There's not a lot on this site to retain users: it has low activity, we only reliably have event and cash shop updates, our RPing scene is pretty nonexistent outside of private RPs, and outside of the storyline and regular events, I don't know if there's much here that other sites haven't done before.

I don't know if that sounds dickish or not to say, and there are parts of the site that I enjoy (I do like the fact that you've turned to simple, alternative ways of hosting events [IE: the corner games] when other sites don't) but I do think there are root issues to be addressed before the site has any growth. And it's important to maintain user growth/levels: there are always going to be a few people who stick around for awhile, but I think that most people who join avatar sites have a lifetime of a few months before leaving/taking a break until their next few months of activity.

But yeah, like others have already said, it's bad to go around spamming this site on other avatar forums and such, so I'm not going to get into that. What I can tell you is that word of mouth advertising is probably not a plan to rely on, since there are so few active people on the site (and less people who would do it) that I think it's pretty unfeasible that the site would reach that many people through only a few channels. Running an ad might seem expensive initially, but it's really your best bet if you want to attract a broader user base. If you place an ad well, then more users = more people buying runes = you hopefully recoup the initial loss. I could probably make you a couple decent mock ads. I'm a marketing intern, that's kind of what I do.

You might also want to consider a Youtube campaign (a video series of some sort) but as there's only a few of you, I don't know if any of you know anything about video, so that might not be feasible. On a more userbase side, I know of RPG advert communities on Livejournal that allow you to link to forum-based stuff, so if anyone ever wanted to advertise their Trisphee RP on a community like that, the worst that could happen is that people don't join.

@Quiet Man: Wait, there's Trisphee fic? I should try my hand at that. Y'know, I doubt we have that much fic, but I'm going to see if I can get fanfiction.net to add a proper Trisphee category. Might not get any more users that way, but it's not like it can hurt.

I've been thinking that Trisphee should have a youtube presence for a while now. Be it just a monthly news video, development vlog or other similar things. (also some sort of interactive guide to the site through the use of unlisted videos and all that fancy stuff)

I have dabbled in both Youtube and video editing with programs like After Effects, and have a whole lot of free time.. but I doubt i'm at the level to do anything like that.

I think the biggest problem with item updates is I don't have enough people helping. Its very hard to keep it all going by myself. I literally pretty much work on Trisphee to keep the updates going like 60+ hours a week at the moment, and I am definitely getting stuff done, but that's a lot of work. As for advertisement if we can get the money in I would consider. I think the other biggest problem is that users can't see what the staff are working on or anything either. So while we see all this great stuff planned its a lot to keep up too and not enough people doing it. I know getting games up would go a LONG way toward keeping users on, and events more often(which were trying to have events a lot more often its just getting everything done). Not to mention all the other systems we want to do and the layout stuff we are working on x___x But all in all my list is literally a mile long if not longer, and we don't all the coding manpower we need either. I think if users maybe saw all that we were working on it would help a lot as well.

As for a youtube presence yeah sounds like a great idea...we actually started a project awhile back but the people involve have since not had the time to keep up with it and get things done. We already have a lot. If I could get more people involved it would be great. Which is honestly why I am thinking im going to start doing mass skype calls with users. I want everyone's input and I want Trisphee to get bigger.

I actually made a quick mock up of a tris video. Maybe I'll do some others if it's something you're actually interested in.



Basically it's a decent looking format for doing a sort of news/update video which may come out monthly, including the latest items, bug fixes/changes and event news. presenter and images at the side.

Fen? Why are you doing all the updating? What the heck do you have moderators and other Admins for?!
If you are the main pixel baby at the moment, You shouldn't even be doing the adding of the items into the system. There should be an Item Admin that's sole job is to add items and fix item names, and if someone has an item problem - They can fix it. (Considering the types of awesome items here - might need to be two people.)
And if you feel members can't see what staff is doing. Then just let the members know what staff is doing. I see Demonskid, Ultima, Gallagher, and Lucid - all the time - bless them. Maybe I just hang out in the threads they do.
When other sites had the same problem they asked the Mods and Admins to combine together to create a sort of "Meet the Staff Party" - where members know they can talk to the Staff. <3

despite all the mods and admins, theres not many who have the availability that fen does, and so projects dont fall to the side, fen usually picks up slack or gives everything her own final touches before it even makes it to coding.

and my only concern about mass skype calls is what are you going to do about people who A) cant use skype for whatever reason, or B) prefer not to, and C) not able to be around for the calls? =\

Fen has been doing a lot more passing off of recolor/upload jobs as far as I know, and it's been an excellent thing. We're trying to make it easier for other staff members besides Coda to fix/update items too. We're trying our best to keep Fen alive. :3

I have the problem of most likely not being around for all the skype calls. ;A; But I learned how to keep skype on in the background without it bugging me all the time and so I'm now more easily reachable! Huzzah!

I just was commenting to remind Fen - an undertaking as large and wonderful as this... it's hard to take on by yourself and FenFen mentioned in her post that she was doing things by herself. (I think Fen is a girl and if not I'm sorry.)

Well it would be nice to have more members on this site, everyone is closely bonded right now, and the community is nice, and I feel having a lot more people on the site could mess that up. Though more people are needed for keeping up site funding and donations, so...

Well, I do share this site with others, but the only time it's active enough to convince them to join is during an event.

Then, once it's over, they kind of disappear. Like I will soon enough because the other way I use avatar sites (roleplaying), I don't have it here.

I just wanted to point this out.
After a good two and half weeks since I started this thread. We gain 200 more new members. Not only that, old members have been logging on a bit more. I've been seeing people I haven't seen months, or even a year.
I don't know what everyone else is doing, but this is an amazing fleet! I can't wait to see those numbers grow! Soon a event will come out, lets just see how many people will be online at once then ;D

Hrm, I will help out as I can. ^^ I love this site and you have some good ideas.

But it's not like the people who already friends are just going to be not friends just because there's more people on the site, and if they do, well, they obviously weren't that close of a friend. With more people on the site, you can retain your groups, but you also have other people to interact with. One of the reasons why I don't post very much (except to criticize things, lol) is that the site is stagnant. I mostly RP on avatar sites, but I'm not inclined to RP here because none of the styles mesh well and there's no new people in who might. So I just stopped logging on.

I've been trying to bring people in....but it's hard. Most of them just kind of brush me off. But, I'll keep trying. Been trying to draw in some of my roleplay friends from other sites to bring in more RPers.

There's really no point in inviting people if the site won't be able to hold on to them.
I've been on this site for a few days now but the only thing I could do here is post on forums, play with my items to create a different avatar OR simply lurk around the forums.
The site is lovely but it should provide members something better to do other than posting, especially when the site is quiet.

So yeah, working on an idea to make members want to stay on tris would probably be better than inviting users who would end up leaving after a few days. >w<

We are working on games that will help keep people on when the site is quiet, Unfortuantely I only have one person working on them besides myself and the only thing I can do is the art.
