Wait. Apple discontinued Safari for Windows?

Blah. Safari 5 on Windows was actually good.

Alpha 11-06-2012 11:10 PM

Yep, they discontinued it, at least for new versions. Can still download the last version they released though. I think it's the semi same rationale as was used for Windows discontinuing Internet Explorer on Mac OS.

Coda 11-07-2012 11:14 AM

I talked to a friend of mine who works at Apple. They haven't made any OFFICIAL statement that it's discontinued, so I suppose it would be more accurate to call it abandoned.

Alpha 11-07-2012 12:32 PM

True, that would be better to state.

Glitter 11-07-2012 06:18 PM

I use Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Google Chrome and I like them all in there own specific way, so I have no reason to compare them. When one gives me trouble, I simply use another one and I feel that all four of them are needed; because I may want to use all four of them for different things or use which ever one meets my personal preference at the time.

I have yet to use Safari, but from what I have read, I probably will never use it and it is not because I feel it is a bad browser; it is because from what I have read, it may not be getting the support it needs anymore, from the operating system I use.

Quiet Man Cometh 11-08-2012 12:24 AM

I like the little website names turning green when I've typed in an address. Helps me spot typos or if I'm off in what I'm looking for. Small details but small details rule!

Promise 11-10-2012 05:09 PM

I have never really tried anything except for Google Chrome, so I feel okay with it xD

Tears 11-14-2012 03:27 AM

I use mainly Chrome and Firefox. I just grew into this habit, don't remember how that happened.

Lestrade 11-24-2012 02:23 AM

I tried Chrome but it was weird. It kept opeing things in new tabs instead of new windows or just in the same window and I couldn't figure out why ^_^* I really don't like using tabs at all... Chrome also had this thing where it had a spare tab at the top of the screen at all times. which of course I was never going to use. So it just bugged me. I uninstalled it after a couple of days.

I use Firefox mostly, but it's been running worse and worse with every release, I swear. So I've actually found myself on IE more and more, weirdly.

Coda 11-24-2012 03:03 AM

Heh, IE is the only browser out there that HASN'T moved to tabs-by-default. Which is sort of ironic, because Windows 7 is the OS that benefits from it most. But fortunately IE9 isn't terrible and IE10 may actually be good.

Arikana 11-24-2012 08:51 AM

IE's all the way at version 10 now? :O
Wow...

Lestrade 11-24-2012 05:28 PM

...my Firefox doesn't' have tabs by default. I think I turned it off somewhere, but I couldn't find such an option in Chrome (or, for that matter, many options at all, which was irritating).

John Watson 11-24-2012 05:30 PM

Yeah, more recent versions of Firefox had tabs by default, but the option to get rid of them. I use tabs, but it would even annoy me if the choice wasn't there, because I kind of hate when things remove choices from you. It's like they refuse to allow people to have their own opinions, or to acknowledge that not everybody likes the same thing.

Cora 12-09-2012 12:05 AM

FireFox all the way ^.^

Xurxo 12-09-2012 10:23 AM

I use Chrome by default. Sometimes I use Firefox. I use IE once in a blue moon, I prefer not to use it...since I've found it is kind of...icky and uses too many resources in comparison to Chrome for me.

Daiasita 12-12-2012 12:48 AM

i use mostly chrome ans safari as default browsers since both of them are fast for me. used to use firefox and IE but they became slow for me lately.

Coda 12-13-2012 01:20 AM

So I set up a new Windows virtual machine at work because I can't keep shoving all of the platform-specific bugs off on my coworkers, and decided to dig up the Internet Explorer 10 preview for Win7.

... I am more than a little impressed.

Seriously, it's actually a good browser.

Remember me speculating about how I expected IE10 to be better than Firefox? It IS. It's surprisingly fast and has surprisingly broad feature support. It feels stable and I feel confident in its security.

Chrome is still technologically superior, but I've never liked Chrome's user interface, so... I'm using IE10... and liking it.

Lauv Keiko 12-13-2012 10:42 AM

@Coda: you're selling it so good...I might try it now.

Lucid: 12-14-2012 12:31 AM

I really like Chrome's interface. :P I won't be switching, but I did see a funny IE 10 ad that was along the lines of "We know IE used to be bad, but we promise it's not bad anymore!" I guess it was true.

Ichigo 12-14-2012 10:00 AM

I have never tried anything except for really old IE and Chrome... I like Chrome a lot, and I am just used to it xD

Arikana 12-14-2012 11:44 AM

Lul, that's amusing to hear Lucid. XD Though it's kind of late to put that now for their users who have moved onto other browsers. :P

Epic Rave Monster 12-15-2012 11:46 AM

I use Firefox and Chrome. Mostly Firefox, cause it doesn't freeze as much. ..It should be the other way around, but it's not.

star2000shadow 12-23-2012 11:20 AM

I Use Chrome.. it has so many features that come in handy such as the Add blocker..is defiently cool..

MacSen191 12-24-2012 11:23 AM

I mainly use Chrome, but lately I've been back and forth with Mozilla.

_Hanzo_ 12-24-2012 04:22 PM

i prefer Mozilla Firefox.

niaous 12-24-2012 05:34 PM

I use firefox and chrome

Law 12-30-2012 02:48 PM

Must say Chrome is legiticussmaximus

SolaceXxX 01-14-2013 02:49 AM

I use Firefox.
I have Chrome too, but I only use it if I want to play Angry Birds^-^

Kilala Mikal 03-03-2013 02:11 AM

I'm currently a fan of Chrome and Firefox. I don't think I've even tried to open IE on my laptop since I've had it... And I got it a year ago... Although, I'm now curious about IE10... o.o

Areishia 03-03-2013 05:45 AM

I use Chrome most of the time and FireFox every now and then.

I've also tried Opera and another one which's name escapes me right now but, I didn't really care much for them.

IE... I only use that if I have no other browsers on the computer xD.

Farore 03-04-2013 01:24 AM

Firefox is best browser.

Chrome tweaks me out, it's like big brother Google is watching my every move.

Eboneye 06-04-2013 10:21 AM

I use Firefox. It seems to give me less problems. But that's me I guess.

Alpha 06-04-2013 01:49 PM

Just as a warning...Firefox hasn't always been agreeing with the site at times.

Eboneye 06-05-2013 04:51 PM

Ok. I'll remember that if I have problems.

Pernicious Storyteller 08-26-2013 04:38 PM

I use Chrome, it's easy to use and since I use gmail I can just download the app and know when I got anything new.

Bathory Erzsebet 09-24-2013 02:48 PM

I have Firefox, Safari, and Chrome on my laptop. I don't really use Chrome as often as the other two.

Filthgrinder 04-20-2015 06:28 PM

Internet Explorer really sucks. I find Safari annoying when I use a Mac.

Coda 04-21-2015 08:03 AM

Internet Explorer DOESN'T suck anymore -- IE11 is a modern browser that's got proper support for almost all modern web features, and it's actually pretty fast, and Microsoft has been putting a lot of work into improving the security. (It's still not smart to use Windows on the Internet without malware protection.)
