oh yeah, McCoy was great too. and it could have been ThinkGeek, they have lots of geeky stuff. XD

as for the older/earlier doctors, yeah, they are kinda dry and slow. one of Tennant's (Ten) episodes had something to do with the Daleks and the Empire State Building. there was an earlier episode with Hartnell (One) that had a scene with the Daleks and the Empire State Building (in the episode The Chase) that i showed my daughters, and it just moved waaay toooo slooow for them. the scene in Ten's episode was much shorter and got the point a little quicker. maybe the storytelling was just a little slower in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, who knows. but i still liked them all the same.

as for the missing episodes, in the 60s, the BBC taped over a lot of their shows to save tape, and that's why the episodes are "lost." however, the audio is still around. some of the episodes i watched were production stills set to that audio, and some of the episodes were animated in black and white. my library system has quite a number of episodes on DVD, and i used dailymotion for the rest. they're also listed on watchseries (but i'm not sure i'd trust all those links, LOL)

We take our son out trick or treating. Due to not being able to afford his costume this year, he's going to go as a mashed up Transformer/Storm Trooper/Jedi Knight which is his costumes from previous years. Transformer outfit, strom tropper head, jedi knight robe and lightsaber. It should be intresting to say the least.(It was his idea... I wanted to just go to dollar tree and get vampire or Ninja stuff but he wants to do this.) He's 11 and with all the crap they are posting on the news about banning 12 year olds from trick or treating I figure this might be his last year... which I hope that banning thing goes away and dosen't catch on... let your kids be kids as long as they can be.

tsukiko 10-26-2018 05:25 PM

banning kids from trick or treating is beyond stupid...ugh

I heard the scarf came into existence because the freelance knitter they hired was so excited to work for Doctor Who she wanted to put in extra effort, and no one told her she did not have to use all the wool they had given her.

And yeah, story telling definitely was slower back then. I'm having a really hard time with some old movies or series. It's not that they're bad or anything, but they feel incredibly dragged out at times whereas modern television cuts straight to the point.

yes and yes. =)

Witchchylde 10-26-2018 06:19 PM

Then again, the older shows were episodic; each story took three to five episodes to come to completion, if I'm recalling correctly.

trystan830 10-26-2018 06:32 PM

yep, that's correct Witchchylde. most were 4 parts, but some were 6. The Chase was 10! =)

Serra Britt 10-26-2018 06:35 PM

I rather liked the slower pace, it just allowed more details to be put in. Not that action isn't great also, but life isn't all thrills every moment either.

@MacSen
Banning trick or treaters based on age feels...stupid? What are they supposed to do instead, go with older schoolmates to unsupervised parties? >_>

trystan830 10-26-2018 06:40 PM

agreed Serra

also, i'm pretty sure my younger daughter and her friend are going trick-or-treating - and they're 17 =)

tsukiko 10-26-2018 07:52 PM

if we got trick or treaters at my college complex, they'd be hooked up from my place regardless of their age xD

Witchchylde 10-26-2018 08:02 PM

I love "Robot" episode 1 so much, just for the wardrobe parade Tom Baker does in his premiere. I think the Pierrot costume is my favorite!

Serra Britt 10-26-2018 08:03 PM

When I was in college, some of my friends went trick or treating and then gave me a huge box full of "a little bit" of what they ended up getting XD

tsukiko 10-27-2018 08:59 AM

ugh...i finally fixed my bed! means i actually can sleep again...but still waking up too damn early D:<

mdom 10-28-2018 07:19 PM

Veshora 10-30-2018 05:53 PM

Being still alive today is the first step towards immortality. You just need to repeat the same tomorrow.

tsukiko 10-30-2018 06:57 PM

hmm..never looked at it that way before xD

Yup. You've won 11 Candies!

Also, apologies for the radio silence. I was at a convention this past weekend.

bluebird 10-30-2018 08:12 PM

plot twist: stuck in a time loop

tsukiko 10-30-2018 08:15 PM

Veshora 10-30-2018 08:18 PM

Did you have fun?

Den 10-30-2018 08:24 PM

I did. I got to run around with friends, and oogle pretty plastic robot toys, and I won second place in the 3D division of the art contest.

mdom 10-30-2018 08:26 PM

oooh! Congratulations!!! \o/

Den 10-30-2018 08:32 PM

I made it to the end of the art contest winners announcement panel, and the people behind me told me, then they called my name, and I was all "I'm right here, just one moment!"

EverAshwood 10-30-2018 08:59 PM

Hell yeah, congrats Den!!

tsukiko 10-30-2018 09:06 PM

Happy Halloween and Happy Samhain! I almost forgot that this is Nox Nocturnalis time.

trystan830 10-31-2018 09:19 PM

tsukiko 11-01-2018 06:14 AM

ZenKitty 11-01-2018 12:53 PM

Joins in the Doctor Who discussion a little late.

Tom Baker was my first and favorite too, Trys. I also like McCoy. This Doctor may wind up to be my favorite though. I REALLY like her!

Never knew the story behind the long scarf. Fun little fact. I purchased my scarf many, many years ago at a fan convention. Had the whole 4th Doctor outfit to cosplay back then.

Witchchylde 11-01-2018 01:01 PM

Besides buying one, I've been making a scarf of my own, but I've been making it a little at a time for more than a decade now. Turns out lupus makes your finger joints a little crochety when you knit, haha.

trystan830 11-01-2018 01:11 PM

ok, here's my hierarchy of fave Doctors:

1st fave - Four
2nd fave - 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, War, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13
3rd fave - 6

...

yep. XD
