o3o you do know that you don't need it to be a 'purebred' to know its breed right? o3o its like 40$ at this one place to get a DNA ancestry test done to find out what breed it is. the price goes up if you want to test the even more finer details and for illnesses and stuff x-x
And when they give you the results of that test, the breeds that are most dominant are the ones you go by. Like say Kuromi's test showed she had 25% Maine coon and 73% Turkish Angora and 2% Persian, you'd be able to say that Kuromi is part Angora and part Maine Coon. But since its 73% T.Angora most people would just say the cat is a T.Angora and be done with it. A lot of the newer breeds arent "pure bred" if you think of it. o3o, You take breed A and breed B and get breed C.. Breed C is really just half A and half B the only reason they get labeled a new breed is because they end up becoming popular with other people and breeders. If they don't get popular then they just end up with the generic "Domestic XX" label because it's not a cat society official breed. And when I said she had those traits I mean she fits those traits to a T, especially the behavioral traits =p I didn't say she had 'Some' of the traits. |
That's what I meant about people disagreeing on the definition. You wouldn't be able to enter your kitty in a contest for Angoras from just the results of a DNA test. You could enter your kitty in a contest for domestic shorthairs, though.

...All I see is a pretty hairy baby with beautiful eyes.

>w< she is pretty. Mom's trying to claim her D:< she's all "I always prefer it when they're small, hate it when they get big." she just likes to baby the new cat in the house =p
http://cattime.com/cat-breeds/turkis...-cats#/slide/1 This description ^ that fits her to a T. From the size, to the personality, all the way down to the grooming where they explain the physical charateristics. Quote:
and then there is this from the Children and Other Animals section: Quote:
Mom sometimes complains on how energetic she is and how far/high she can jump when she's in the mood to x'D she jumps from the floor to the top of the cat tree with no stopping on the first or second shelfing o3o that tree is like 5feet tall! and she sooooo fast x'D mom wanted to name her lighting =w=, I have this brush that takes away the loose undercoat of the cats (and de-tangles them) nothing ever comes off her using that brush.. x-x like dude where is your undercoat. ![]() I rescued a kitten last night! I heard an insistent meowing, so I went and checked on my cats... they were all curled up asleep. But the meowing continued, so I went outside, and this little angel was sitting in the middle of the street looking lost and scared. He's a boy. He looks like he's probably around six months old. He had a full tummy when we found him, his fur is clean, no fleas or ticks... He's gotta belong to someone nearby. I put up a poster near where I found him, and Ginny and I will try to find his owner today. |
Good thing you rescued it. People these days just run over animals without a care in the world.
|
That's exactly WHY I rescued him. I was terrified when I first saw him in the street; I only saw the light reflecting in his eyes and he wasn't moving, just meowing, so I was scared he had already been hurt until I got close enough to see him with my flashlight.
|
Coda, you made me happy. Even though you rescuing the cute kitty cat doesn't affect me, it makes me happy that there is someone who would rescue a cat knowing other people would have killed it.
|
yay! Another kitty saved! >w< hope you can find his home. He looks so well groomed and taken care of, someone misses him.
Kuromi belonged to someone, when we found her her claws were freshly trimmed, but she was covered in parasites and was sooo starved. I asked around if someone lost their kitty but no one came looking (we aren't allowed to put posters up) so .. mine now >w>, |
I've put up posters around this neighborhood and the surrounding subdivisions saying we found him, but we haven't gotten any responses yet. I feel sorry for this little guy, but I really can't keep a FOURTH cat. It's hard enough to find places to live that will accept three.
It's been a long time since there's been a kitten in the house, though. Our youngest cat is seven years old now. Even as old as this little one is, he's still so tiny compared to the boys (who are larger than average for housecats due to their Maine Coon heritage), and I'd forgotten how much energy kittens have compared to adult cats. And how much trouble they can get into... He wants to chew and/or claw EVERYTHING. And our adult cats have learned not to mess with the bird, but the kitten doesn't know that and he tries to pounce on it... almost successfully a couple times, way too close for comfort. So we really can't keep him even if we wanted to, but if no one comes forward looking for him in the next couple of days we aren't going to have a choice but to place him in a no-kill shelter. |
I agree with finding a place that allows 3 cats.. (it was a pain to find a way to keep Kuromi >o<)
=( hopefully its owners come calling for him soon. |
Just an aside: I really hate the name no-kill shelter :(
They still kill their animals and they are more exclusive as to which animals they'll accept |
I know, but given that this is a healthy, friendly kitten, I'm reasonably certain he's a good candidate.
|
I'm sure :)
|
around here, they will refuse to take in cats if they're 'strays' =/ so if you find a cat thats obviously someones pet they consider it a stray and refuse it.
|
We have four now and every one of them is a rescue. The newest, youngest one, Romeo, has kind of become something of a boss. He's the only one who hangs out in the living room where the dogs are, and he's trying to teach the next youngest, Hello Sweetie, how to hunt and catch mice. Sweetie tends to lose them under floor mats though.
I really need my own phone so I can get pics of my kitties I can share. |
I had to make a home made e-collar for Kuromi.. -o-
She was doing so well at not licking her surgery site during the first 2 weeks.. then all of a sudden she has the area licked raw >o< Been washing it with warm water and applying Aloe Vera to it, its looking WAY better after just 2-3 days <3 |
I figured I'd update everyone on Kuromi >w>,
Her Surgical site is healed, fur is growing back nicely on her tummy. I bought a pretty blue e-collar for her eventually. My homemade one because too waterlogged and she was able to lick at the site due to the thing being all wet and bendy.. =w=, Worms had showed up again not long after her surgery. I have been feeding her and the boys food with Diatomaceous Earth (Food Grade) and Pumpkin Seed Oil mixed in. The worms are clearing up again, this time the E-collar will help in keeping her from re-ingesting worms and worm eggs. NOW!! Ugh.. Kuromi stop doing things to yourself... Her one claw on the right front paw, it was all bent backward and bleeding. I went to Dollar General (I found 5$ in mah wallet! where the fk that come from geeze..) to get gauze and tape. I had wrap. I got some cleaning pads too.. Managed to get the broken claw off her. Cleaned up the paw, put some neosporin on it to help it heal. Now that the broken part is fully off her paw, she isn't in as much pain.. she took the cast wrap thing we made her off.. just flung it off.. =o= geeze.. So I'll just clean her paw every morning and every night to keep it clean.. she's resting in her kitty bed now. She no longer pulls her paw away when I touch it. Pics of her paw: |
